Avis sur Luca Cucina Berkeley
Luca Cucina Italiana is one of those hidden West Berkeley gems that feels like a slice of Italy—at least as far as I can tell, having never been to the motherland myself. I’ve eaten at plenty of places where people swear the food is authentically Italian, and this spot has that same unmistakable flavor. The homemade pasta is the real deal, and their tortellini is absolutely bomb. If you're looking for a vegetarian option, though, be sure to ask in advance. The lasagna and chicken marsala come up a lot in other reviews, and I get why—classic comfort food, done right. The garlic bread? Personally, not my favorite. They season it a little heavier than I’d like, leaning on the saltier side. But that’s a minor quibble when the rest of the meal delivers. I’ll admit, I’ve had an off night or two here in th e past, but lately, they’ve been on a streak. The last three times I’ve been, it’s really been hitting. Add in the cozy, homey vibe and friendly service, and you’ve got a spot that’s worth revisiting. It’s small, so plan ahead, but if you’re craving fresh pasta with a solid Italian pedigree, Luca Cucina Italiana is worth your time.
This place is amazing!!! Fresh food and great customer service! Pasta cardinale is always a winner with homemade sausage! Definitely a good place for a nice meal I love this restaurant would recommend!!
Delicious! We had the fried calamari as a starter and it was so good! I really enjoyed the tortellini. I wish I wasn't so full to try the tiramisu.
My husband and I love Luca! It’s one of those comforting restaurants that always hits the spot! We are regulars and love their spaghetti pomodoro, the chicken livers, arugula salad, their homemade sausage and the tiramisu.
My wife and I have been going to Luca's for several years. It is an amazing experience every time. They have recently switched to table service and have added a heater over the front door. Nothing on their menu is bad.
The food was simple and delicious. If I lived closer, I would go back. They don't sell alcohol FYI.

My love and I have been here many times over the last 7 years and it remains one of our favorites. We used to dine in but now take out so that we can have our wine with our meal. We love the food and it remains consistently delicious. Our favs include garlic bread, bolognese, chicken parm, sauteed greens. Tonight I am going to try the lobster ravioli.
We had a beet salad with arugula, goat cheese and walnuts. Linguine Lemone with bay shrimp, and tagliatelle Bolognese. All were fabulous!
Went here for a date night and it was a great, I really enjoyed the feel of the place and there was some nice jazz/classical music playing while we ate. I ordered the chicken paramsean which was cooked very nicely and had a great sauce. I would order different noodles next time, but I was just trying something new. The garlic bread came out hot and was very seasoned and tasty, my gf got the Risotto alla Pescatora which was a special for the day and she loved it "5/5". Will definitely come back here next time I want Italian, and I reccomend for a cute date night.
Very good traditional Italian place in the heart of Berkeley. Service could be better. Eggplant Parmesan was half cooked. Rest of the food was great.
Lobster ravioli is great! They now have table service so that's really nice and a heater by the door so it's much warmer now. Really terrific improvements. If you haven't been in awhile try it again. You might like it better now.
Good “bang for your buck” Italian food. A bit oily for my taste, but still pretty good
Food was good and a good size for one. Everything was fresh. You can enjoy your meal with light Italian (and some English) music. They have limited seats and not much room to wait inside.

Meatballs... I really liked them. The issue was there were only two when added to the pasta vodka sauce. They were small also. Food was very good. No wine on menu.

I'm amending this review because I have been back and Luca is now back to being a great little neighborhood spot for tasty food at a reasonable price, thank you LUCA. If only there was wine! I live close to Luca and have been going there for years, they had wine then! I have been there recently and sadly the food has gone down hill fast. For $20 I got 4 thin pieces of chicken with OK piccata sauce and tasteless watery pasta alfredo that didn't stick to the pasta at all, it was basically milk. My friend has sausage and pepper that she thought tasted strange compared to prior meals. Will not be going back in a hurry.
Small Italian restaurant with imaginative menu with some standards you’ll love.

Servers are great and the place is nice. Food has very little flavor, it needs seasoning like salt as a bare minimum. I saw too late the review about small meatballs but they are tiny for $7 but were the highlight of my meal. If this is your go to Italian, I’m sorry but you haven’t had real Italian. It reminded me of what non-Italians would make and say it’s Italian.
Came here for some italian food left with hella stomach issues. At first the food looked promising but there was absolutely no flavor and for 7$ meatballs they were so tiny and again no flavor. For the price this place is not it. What makes it even worse is that this place messed up my stomach and my entire groups (12 people total). Don’t let this photo fool you it made my life and stomach horrendous.
This is what 15 bucks of pasta and 7 bucks in chicken gets you. The "sauce" is like milk. Flavorless and just liquid, no texture to it at all. 5 small nuggets of chicken. No flavor to any of it. The best I can say is it was warm and with enough salt and pepper, eatable.

Went to this restaurant with my boyfriend. Ordered a salad with chicken, they charged $8.50 for 3 pieces of chicken that was tasteless. (btw just the salad was $10, so the chicken was almost as expansive as just a single salad. 3 pieces of chicken, nonsense) then we ordered lasagna and linguine with alfredo and chicken. again $8.50 for 3 pieces of chicken which we didn’t know about. lasagna seemed reheated and there was a part that was completely frozen, hard to eat. linguine was completely tasteless, not a single flavor, horrible. Service was whatever, only saw the server twice. Ended up paying more than $70 for horrible flavored meals. Never coming back.
The food was mediocre, meatballs were very small, I ordered a double cappuccino...got a single, others in my group were not impressed with their dishes. The garlic bread was dripping soggy soaked in butter and the garlic on it was unpleasant. The tiramisu was tasteless, the canoli was the worst I've ever had. The staff was nice enough, but not engaging. The atmosphere was terrible. Everything was extremely loud, the music, the kitchen fans, clashing plates.....we were the only ones in there so we asked for the music to be turned down, which they did....but they raised it back up later. Artwork on the walls was bland, decorating was unimaginative... (understatement). Not a good value for the price. We won't be back.

I was very disappointed with this restaurant. My partner and I were very excited to try this place after reading some of the reviews but was sadly disappointed. The food looked and tasted like there was no love or thought put into it like authentic Italian food. My partner had the chicken Marsala and it was very small portions and the sauce was very watery. I ordered the Carbonara and when I got it, it looked like it was in soup… The food overall tasted and looked like cafeteria food mixed with airplane food. The staff was very friendly but I feel like the owner isn’t around because nothing seemed right about this place. I hope they can improve the quality and taste of their food because I really want to like this little Italian restaurant. Maybe it’ll be better next time.
