We stopped here for lunch this Sunday and we were pleasantly surprised. The place is nice, well maintained, clean, nestled among redwoods and the outdoor patio seating has beautiful views of creek and trees. We reached around 1.30 pm and the place wasn’t over crowded at that time. People working there were nice and warm. We chose indoor seating, which was quiet and pleasant, exactly what we wanted that day. We ordered fries and garden veggie burgers which came with a side of salad. We had one of the most delicious ‘vegetarian burgers’ after a very long time. Highly recommend if you are near Big Sur.
The Big Sur Roadhouse was a fabulous breakfast treat! I was warmly greeted as I walked in, they explained the process for ordering. I had a cozy seat by the fireplace overlooking the garden. I observed a hummingbird in the tree and several.Stellar Jay's, one playing in the water fountain. From the lovely ambience to the best French toast I have had, and I love breakfast. It is a place worth stopping at and across the road is a grocery to stock your supplies. If I ever make it back to the area, will definitely be stopping again.
Cozy quiet and stylish. We only had 2 breakfast there and only coffee with donuts. Little blue tailed birds were so pretty and singing around….
Gorgeous place to have breakfast or brunch with fresh, local ingredients! Great coffee and cozy outdoor area. Cell phone service is not great down Hwy 1, but it's located conveniently right off the main road so you won't miss it. Will come back again!
Outstanding!! Incredible outdoor seating over looking the creek. Gorgeous remodeled interior. Went for breakfast - delicious elevated California classics.
Stylish yet relaxed — the perfect Big Sur dining experience. Big Sur Roadhouse blends local charm with a fresh, modern twist, offering California-inspired dishes that celebrate the region’s ingredients and laid-back vibe. The menu is creative without being pretentious, and the atmosphere — all wood, stone, and natural light — makes you feel instantly at home among the redwoods. Whether you’re stopping for brunch, a leisurely lunch, or a glass of wine by the fire, this is one of those places that captures the essence of Big Sur: warm, welcoming, and quietly unforgettable.
Hidden gem on Highway 1. Dining options include indoor and picnic/lounge areas in front and back. Oh man, the pulled pork was good (has coles slaw) and shoe string fries are excellent. Beer options include a couple of taps and bottles/cans.
Big Sur Roadhouse turned out to be an incredible hidden gem for lunch! While the drive along Highway 1 means losing cell service for a bit, the restaurant is easy to spot right off the main road—no GPS needed. I arrived around noon on a Saturday, and while other nearby spots were packed, there was still plenty of parking and open tables here. At first, the lack of a crowd made me hesitant, but wow, was I in for a treat! The food was out of this world. I ordered the Roadhouse burger with a side of fries, and both were absolutely phenomenal—easily some of the best I’ve ever had. The wait time was short, the setting was peaceful and surrounded by beautiful trees, and the staff couldn’t have been more welcoming. Next time I’m in the area, there’s no question—I’ll be stopping by again. I seriously can’t recommend this place enough!
Food was great, pesto scramble was delicious 😋 The outside patio was beautiful ad well, and great watching the most amazing dark blue, blue jays.
Great lunch stop when you’re traveling through Big Sur. The service is quick and friendly and the menu is very reasonably priced for the quality of food you receive. We got the roadhouse chicken sandwich and the roadhouse burger, both of which came with a side salad. The interior was cozy, clean, and had a fireplace which was a really nice touch for what a rainy cold day we were having. I would definitely recommend this for anyone passing through looking for a nice casual lunch.
Found this place cruising down the coastal highway. I will say their food was very good no complaints on that. You have to order your food before you even sit down and then they bring the food out to you. I thought it was weird paying for the food before you ate it and they were already asking for a tip like how do I know what to give you I didn't see what kind of service you provided me yet.
Nice restaurant. Good coffee. We stopped here while traveling to Big Sur when we paid a visit in Monterey. The restaurant looks cozy and relaxing. The staff was nice and helpful. When I was indecisive and went for the Macchiato, he explained to me it was not the same macchiato sold in Starbucks and what was in the macchiato. Really appreciated that because it wasn’t my liking. No comment on the food because we only ordered coffee, but their coffee was really good. My hubby got an iced latte while I got an iced caffè mocha. Yep, this is more of my coffee type. The view is pretty. Sipping my coffee while looking at the greenery was really nice. Will come back if we’re in the area.
Stopped here for a quick lunch before our hike at Pfeiffer State Park. It was clean, modern, and the food was fresh. They had a cute outdoor area in the front and off the back to eat.

Stopped for lunch on the thanksgiving day. Food and staff were great.
This spot shines when viewed in the context of its remote location. The reliable Wi-Fi is a major plus where cell service falters, and the outdoor seating is stylish with enjoyable views when the weather cooperates. While food and service are basic, likely due to staffing challenges common in the area, the setting makes it a worthwhile stop.
Best place in big sur for breakfast and lunch, it's everything big sur promised to be. Open at 8 am, beautiful space, extensive menu, excellent coffee - I don't want to leave.
The joint has to be taken in the context of its location to be truly appreciated. The wifi is particularly useful as cell reception is weak or nonexistent in that area from all major carriers. The outside seating is trendy and offers good views, weather permitting. Food and service are rudimentary due to staffing issues, a common hurdle in the area.
Food is decent for a quick snack, however on the pricey side. Two beers, chicken strips and fries were $49. Nice outdoor patio both in the front and back. Clean bathrooms. The front patio smells a bit maybe from the fountains outfront.
Food was yummy. Had the breakfast burrito with chorizo and my partner had the English muffin. Ambiance is nice. Easy breakfast. We came from Glen Oaks, as we were told that there was complimentary coffee and donut. There was but decided to stay for the food.

Pretty quaint little place amidst nature. The place is very well maintained and the food is delicious. We had a tuna sandwich, burger and cappuccino. There was some confusion on the side of our order, hence minus one star. Would love to comeback again.

Decent food and a great dog friendly patio with beautiful views of the trees and nearby creek. Unfortunately a misunderstanding led to an older lady treating my fiance like a criminal. This left a sour taste in our mouths and we probably won't visit this place again.

Food is no joke some of the worst I’ve had. Feels like cheap summer camp food that’s been reheated. Such a bummer but the whole thing felt like an afterthought. Feel like they’re banking on you not having many options in town. Server was super nice which was the only redemption.
French toast was great, and the rest of the breakfast is good. Service was lackluster and bordering on rude. Dealt with several passive aggressive remarks when we'd ask simple questions. Unless we're regulars and I'm sure they deal with their share of out of towners how would we know? It's a little early in the day to already be that pissy in the morning. Had I known the workers were that rude then I wouldn't have pre-tipped the 20%.

Despite ordering three entrees, we were immediately scolded by our waitress the moment we brought out iron-fortified oatmeal for our toddler. It ruined our good mood. They take it very seriously: no outside food or drink
