This restaurant, likely run by an elderly Korean couple, serves wonderfully authentic Korean cuisine. We ordered the bibimbap (mixed rice served on a hot stone plate) and haemultang (a sweet and spicy octopus soup), both of which evoked the comforting taste of home cooking, even though I’m not from Korea. Although each dish is on the pricier side (around $25), the portions are generous, making the cost feel reasonable.
My husband and I really enjoyed this place tonight. It was our first time going. The owners were sweet and helpful. They have a good selection of Korean dishes. If you are new to Korean food, bibimbop or beef bulgogi , both are good introductions. We ate boodae jjigae (soldier stew and it's spicy). That stew hit the spot! The kimchi was good as well. The side dishes were pleasant to eat. I lived in Korea (near Daegu) for two years in 2008 to 2010 so it was nice to eat good food. I do wish Birmingham had more authentic Korean restaurants, this is the only one that I know of. Korean food can be pricey but it's good to go with multiple people to share dishes and the bill. This restaurant is small on the inside and it does have clean bathrooms. They will do carryout.
Some of the best Korean food that I've ever had. The owner would answer any question that you had about anything on the menu. The wait staff was excellent.I read a few of you talking about the prices of the items on the menu. I would say the price is definitely worth what you get! I wish I lived closer so I could frequent this restaurant more often. It is kind of hidden in the strip mall. Don't let that scare you away.
This place is so good. Family owned and authentic. The price is fair the portions are large and the food is amazing. The best Korean in town
Hole in the wall, family-owned spot for authentic and delicious Korean food. The decor / atmosphere leaves a lot to be desired (they have a recliner for the cook / owner to watch his shows in the dining area and pictures of food taped to the walls), but the food was absolutely delicious. Sweet old couple running things themselves. We ordered bulgogi and it was a generous portion with all the pickled veggies.
Absolutely fantastic, authentic Korean food. This is hands down our go-to place in town from now on. The pricing reflects the authenticity and the volume of food! We could never finish all of it and took the leftovers home. This is the kind of restaurant you need to visit with humility and gratitude for the experience. We were so pleased with it. The venue and the atmosphere reminded us of being with our own families and being at home as if we were being served by our own grandparents. The owners were kind enough to bring us even more complimentary appetizers to enjoy throughout the evening. We will absolutely be returning again. 감사합니다 ❤️
Food was amazing. We ordered a few things expecting the portions to be regular ish size. But NO, the portions are huge! Two people could easily split each dish. The food is definitely meant to be served “family style”. I got the Bibimbop and the kimchi jji-gae (my favorite dish) and egg rolls as an appetizer. Service was great! People complaining about the service need to understand it’s just ran by an older couple doing as much as they can. They were very lovely people. I’m excited to go back next time but will definitely order less food.
This place is a weird hole in the wall restaurant that came out of nowhere. I was driving from Cincinnati and randomly stopped by. It has very authentic Korean food that is not localized for western tastes. It's very legit. I can tell they make all the side dishes in house and the mains are very diverse and good. You can't find Korean food like this in Cincinnati.
The location is convenient to the interstate and just off green springs hwy. You can see the sign from the main road. It's a small restaurant. But, it is cozy and the decor is nice. The owner was super nice and he and the waiter explained what items were on the menu. The food was good. I really enjoyed the seasoning on the marinated chicken with dipping sauce. The rice was also good. They have a good selection of tea as well. Very helpful and friendly staff. I highly recommend!
The food was incredible and seemed very authentic! The owners are a sweet old couple that had me feeling like I was eating at grandma’s house. Be aware they are a bit expensive but you’re getting great food so it’s 100% worth it to me (at least to try). The only con I have is the atmosphere feels run down and dusty. But still highly recommend 👌
This place is the epitome of mom and pop shop, and we absolutely loved it. I had the yukgaejang paired with soju for the first time (I have never had soju before) and it was a match made it heaven. The yukgaejang was perfectly spicy (Asian medium but American spicy) and served literally boiling in a stone bowl. So good and flavorful. My husband had bibimbap, which was excellent. It came out on a steaming stone plate, and was a great presentation. Our 3 year old son even enjoyed the bone broth that came with the banchan and some rice. The banchan selection was pretty good. The fish cakes were very rubbery, but the kimchi and cucumbers were excellent. My favorite part was the owner sitting in the recliner in the dining area, watching Korean discovery channel while we dined. I'm honestly not being sarcastic, the service was great, and it was just added charm to a great, low-key restaurant. Definitely recommend. It's a great experience paired with delicious food.
Located in a shopping center a few blocks from large Asian grocery store. They have 2 tables that have a tabletop grill to cook your food but pricing for that is separate and pretty steep (about $30/person for beef bulgogi). My husband and I went on a Sunday for an early dinner at around 430pm and there were only the 2 of us. They have authentic and traditional Korean dishes on the menu such which consists of appetizers, soup, bibbimbap, noodle bowls and of course Korean bbq. My husband had the beef bulgogi and I ordered fire chicken which were both really good. They served us with 6 banchan (side dishes) enough for 2 people, and of course 2 small bowls rice. Seving size per dish is enough for 2 people, we ended up having 1 to-go box for my leftovers. Our check was about $50+ for the 2 of us.
The gentleman was nice, but the food is not a good example of Korean food. If this had been my first experience with Korean food, I'd never ,ever have bought it again! The side dishes were good, the tea watery, and the Bibimbap tasteless! Also the price for 4 people was $102.00!!!! Outrageous! At our local Korean Restaurant in Chattanooga TN,we could have gotten a tastier meal for $45.00, and with larger proportions! Maybe it is from a different area of Korea than the Korean food I eat at the the Chattanooga TN seoul Korean restaurant.And.we.were not given any ice cream for dessert as other people say they got.
