We come from Montgomery to UAB quite often..we ALWAYS try to make a TEDS RESTAURANT STOP!!! Fried Pork Chops, so good, even Jesus picked them, he was a JEW, he didn't eat pork....but these are so good, he would!!!! And HOMEMADE BANANA PUDDING, not that JELLO pudding stuff...the real deal,.double boiler cream
Eat local and save the local restaurants! Why go for corporate chain food and bland service when you can have tasty meats and vegetables (tons to choose from)? Just a quick trip past the food to make your selections and then relax...your food and drink are on the way. Get here early. It is full for a reason.
My friends and I were in on Saturday for breakfast. I haven't laughed that much at a breakfast in such a long time. "Ted" the owner is phenomenal. Our breakfast and interaction with him was one of the most pure human interaction moments I have had in such a long time. His heart and true passion for life and people shine through as his north star.
Have loved this place for years. Good home cooking for lunch at a reasonable price.
Traveling back to Tennessee on 65 and googled restaurants and picked Ted's. Im glad we stopped here. We were greeted and seated by Ted. He was very friendly. We ordered breakfast and it was fantastic. The food was hot and fresh. I will definitely stop here again when Im traveling through the area. It is a lot better than the chain restaurants. Thanks Ted, we enjoyed our breakfast.
I was across the street getting a window fixed in my car when I decided to give this little diner a try. As I sat down with my meal I began to pray over my meal and everything that I have been going through just hit me all at once. All of a sudden I was crying in the butter beans, just sitting in the lap of Jesus asking for comfort and guidance. When I opened my eyes there stood the owner of the restaurant, he reached out and put his hand on my shoulder and asked if he could give me a hug. He was so genuine and compassionate, it was such a blessing to me in that moment. Also the food was absolutely wonderful, it filled my stomach and my heart. I left with more than I came into that restaurant with.
I've been eating at Ted's ever since I moved to Birmingham. It's one of the best meat and vegetables restaurants I've ever been to. It's always consistent. I love this place. I recommend it for anyone that likes meat and vegetables.
Ted's is always very good. One of my favorite lunch stops in downtown Bham! Chicken livers are the best and available everyday!
The food and service were great! The owner greeted us and spoke to us for while. He was very personable and made us feel very welcome. The coffee was really good too (they grind it on premises daily). I had the souvlaki sandwich which was amazing. My daughter had the quesadilla which was also really good. The restaurant has a cozy down home diner feel. You could tell there were a lot of regulars. We highly recommend this place.
I was staying in Birmingham for a week visiting family that lives in Jasper Alabama and I found this place that was open on Saturday and I had The steak and eggs breakfast. It was very delicious . The waitress was awesome and I’m sorry that I did not get there during the week for lunch. We were leaving that afternoon to go back to Florida. I will definitely have to try this place when I come back next spring for lunch.
First time eating here and I will definitely return. I know now why the parking lot is always full. The Mac and cheese is creamy and cheesy, the collards were fresh and seasoned just right, the fried green tomatoes had just the perfect amount of crunch and were amazing. They had run out of cornbread, so I got one of the Parker house rolls and it was soft and still warm enough to melt butter on the inside. I did not have any room left for dessert unfortunately. I love that the menu changes daily. 50+ years of business and I can see why. The staff were so friendly and seemed happy to be there, which is not something you see many places anymore. This is a Birmingham staple. I have always passed by on my way to UAB and it's always closed bc they serve lunch. If you've never been, it's cafeteria style, you pick from several choices of meat and veggies or you can just get a vegetable plate as I did today. I cannot give this enough stars. It was just great and a good way to end my adventure downtown today. The restrooms are small. If you use a wheelchair, there's no getting in there, the doorway is just not large enough. But, there's plenty of room to navigate the line for food and find a spot at the end of one of the booths. I would just choose a time closer to the end of the lunch rush. There were 2 handicap parking spots close to the front door and the parking lot is completely flat except for the overflow spots that are gravel.
It was truly an awesome experience here at Ted's Restaurant, downtown Birmingham, Alabama it is a great choice to make because the food is home cooked. The staff and the owner Mr Tolupous, had an outstanding personality and was concerned about whether or not if we were satisfied. Thank you'll
We were looking for an authentic Alabama lunch experience and found it with Ted’s. We arrived towards the end of the lunch service and found them friendly and welcoming upon entering the space. Free, ample parking, available seating and staff smiles helped us feel at home from the moment we entered. The vegetables were my favorite and immediately took me back to my great aunt’s cooking. Prices were very reasonable. Highly recommend.
Our first time to have brunch at Ted’s and it was wonderful food. we both got a chicken breakfast. Quesadilla filled with a lot of chicken cheese really really good at the salsa in the avocado or guacamole. Amazing very fresh. We will definitely be making that two hour trip just to have brunch.
I have been to Birmingham 3 times in my life and I ate lunch all three times at Ted's. This isn't super fancy but rather more of a cafeteria style dining. The food is SIMPLY FANTASTIC. A stranger that I ran into on business recommended Ted's and he was spot on. I have eaten the beef tips, the pork chop and the Greek patstitio. They were all entres I would order again. Everyone is friendly and prices are reasonable. If you like good southern food (with a touch of Greek) you will LOVE Ted's.
I recently had the pleasure of dining at Ted's Restaurant, a southern eatery in Birmingham Alabama. The cafeteria-style setup added a touch of nostalgia to the dining experience, and it was a delight to see Ted, the actual owner, actively involved in serving the food and ensuring that guests were having a wonderful time. I indulged in their famous fried chicken and for the sides, I had brussel sprouts and rice with gravy. I thought my meal was great, it definitely reflects a true southern comfort food. It was a hearty and satisfying meal that left me craving for more. To top it off, I couldn't resist trying their banana pudding for dessert, and it was a heavenly treat. The creamy pudding, layered with slices of ripe banana was a true indulgence that satisfied my sweet tooth. The service at Ted's Restaurant was exceptional, and Shirley, our server, played a significant role in making our experience memorable. She was incredibly welcoming and hospitable, ensuring that we felt right at home. Moreover, Ted's presence added a personal touch, as he actively interacted with guests and checked on their satisfaction. If I live around that area, I might consider it as my go to places to eat. Overall, I highly recommend visiting Ted's Restaurant for an authentic southern dining experience that combines delicious food, and great service.
We were on the way to gulf shores and were in need of a place to eat for lunch. My husband is a lover of diners, so when I saw Ted’s appear on our google search I knew we found our place. From the moment we walked in until the time we left, we were shown hospitality. The staff were friendly and patient in helping us navigate the food options when ordering. The owner was super friendly and our kids were instant fans when conversation turned to talking about soccer with him. I would definitely recommend this place for those who want a meal that is reminiscent of eating at your southern grandparents house for Sunday lunch. For meat we had the baked chicken and tilapia. Sides ordered were macaroni and cheese, zucchini and squash medley, corn bread, potatoes, and a coconut cream pie. It was all very good, comfort food that kids and adults alike enjoyed. We were going to stop again on our way home, but timing wise it didn’t work out. Hopefully next time around we will be able to stop back in:)
My cousin comes here on the regular & I’ve been wanting to try them for a while. Fried chicken & country fried steak were pretty good. The dressing & Pastitsio lacked flavor & seasoning unfortunately. Cornbread was pretty dry as well. I’ll be back to try some other things cause I see they have regulars and it’s gotta be for a reason, so maybe it was just an off day.
It was… eh, ok. Food was soooo bland. The Mac and cheese was grainy, the corn was so over cooked it was almost grey, the fried chicken was crunchy but dry and bland. Nice sweet tea. The place needs some TLC, the seats are sagging, the walls and floor need power washing. The woman serving the food was rushing us, even though there was nobody behind us and the food didn’t have labels, so we’re trying to figure out what we were ordering. Our server was incredibly nice though, that was the
The owner of the restaurant is a jerk. My boyfriend and I have gone here three times for lunch over the past month. Each time we have tipped the waitress cash we already had (and we tip well). The owner asks us at each checkout if we want cash back for the waitress. Each time he charges us an extra 10% anyway after we already left a tip! And he is very rude about it as well. We won’t be back and that stinks because the food is really good. Just the scamming on the ticket is absurd.
Me and my buddy who just moved here for college wanted to go get breakfast after our morning workout. We walk in and watch the host sit on his phone for 5 minutes before the server finally went and got him to seat us. Menu is pretty high priced for what you are getting. I got the southern breakfast. Pancake was alright, eggs cooked good, bacon was good, biscuit very good, potatoes were very mushy with no crisp, and a fruit bowl with a single strawberries and like 3 blueberries and a couple cubes of melon . 21 dollars for what I could have gotten at Waffle House for 12 and it would have been better along with more food. The plates are a funky shape that let your food slide off. An extra side of anything is like 6 dollars.
