There is no shortage of sushi places in the Bay Area but this Sausalito classic is in a category of its own. Truly outstanding sushi at prices that are reasonable given the quality. All of that on the Bay is Sausalito. They also have a great sake choice and good Coravin wine selection

My wife and I had an incredible date night at Sushi Ran in Sausalito. From start to finish, everything was exceptional—the service, the food, and the ambiance all hit the mark. We started with a sake tasting, which was both fun and thoughtfully curated, and from there enjoyed an array of dishes, including their fatty tuna, bluefin, and toro. Every bite was fresh, perfectly prepared, and absolutely delicious. The presentation and pacing of the meal made the entire evening feel special and unhurried. The atmosphere is warm, intimate, and perfect for a romantic evening. Yes, it’s on the pricier side, but in our experience, it was worth every penny. This is the kind of spot you go to when you want to treat yourself and make a night memorable. If you’re looking for the perfect date-night sushi experience in the Bay Area, Sushi Ran is the place.

The food was fresh and the service was attentative. The sashimi platters and various rolls were good and unique. The miso glazed salmon was gluten free and one of the best I've ever had and comes highly recommended.

This is was one of our favorite places in California. The food was high quality and the seating for us was cozy and comfortable. Would comment to come here for an amazing authentic Japanese food. Skip on the appetizer wontons though, get their salmon entree and sushi’s.

Went to this place for our anniversary and was not disappointed! Staff were super friendly and attentive. We ordered miso soup, wagu-yaki, shrimp and basil dumplings, crunch roll, and kaisen futo-maki roll. Miso soup and wagu-yaki were solid, no complaints. Shrimp and basil dumplings were delicious, would definitely order again. Kaisen futo-maki was okay..lots of different types of fish but strangely enough the overwhelming flavor was cucumber. Not bad, but probably wouldn’t order it again. Crunch roll was the superstar of the show, highly recommend. I would go back just for this roll.

San Francisco. Sushi Ran was on top of the list for restaurants to visit as I saw it in a few different reviews. We loved the food so much that we came back again the next day to try other items on the menu. First the service was excellent and everyone was so kind and friendly. We even had the owner surprise us during our meal on the first night. Two of our favorites was the Miyazaki A5 beef which had incredible texture and a clean finish on the palate. The ikura chawanmushi was a beautiful dish to eat and to feed your eyes with. The texture was pleasant and had wonderful flavors of the sea. The next time we are in Sausalito we will definitely be visiting Sushi Ran again.

The sushi here is phenomenal. Hands down my favorite sushi joint in the bay. Everything is amazingly fresh and good size portions. Things of particular note are the zuke salmon and zuke tuna. Very unique flavors on those. Also the wagyu sushi is amazing if you feel like splurging. I love this place and will drive an hour up to Sausalito every other month to eat here. It's definitely worth it. It also happens to be a Michelin rated place and is on numerous lists for best Japanese restaurants in America. It's good size portions and great quality. You won't be disappointed here!

When you walk in you will notice many awards from magazines and food reviwers all saying the same thing. In short, it's awesome. And I agree! Coming from Australia and living in Korea where Japan is on the door step I am no stranger to great sushi. What I loved about this place was the fish from the America's I ordered dishes with fish from Canada anfmd the states. I don't think they are on the same level from my corner of the globe, but they are still awesome and must be tried.

Another Stellar performance by Sushi Ran! Casey was our server and he was most accommodating and kind. Took the time to explain the dishes that we had ordered and explained that there is a hot kitchen and a cold kitchen. We ordered the dishes from both kitchens🦋 we had green tea with toasted rice flavoring. To-die-for! I can't wait to search for it at the store so I can have it conveniently at home. Ordered hot sake and Yoshi the owner complimented us with a cold sake.

Sushi Ran offers a cozy and intimate dining experience, perfect for a romantic dinner or a quiet meal with friends. They also have an outdoor seating area. While the service was friendly, the pacing between courses was quite slow, which detracted slightly from the overall experience. We dined at Sushi Ran during SF Restaurant Week. The seaweed salad, while fresh, was a bit too crunchy for my preference. However, the Surf and Turf was a standout. The wagyu steak was cooked to perfection, juicy and tender, and the red miso sauce complemented it beautifully. The miso-glazed black cod was also a highlight. The fish was cooked to a flaky perfection, and the glaze added a rich, savory flavor. The toffee cake with spiced caramel and ginger gelato was a delightful conclusion to the meal. The warm cake paired perfectly with the cold, creamy gelato, creating a delightful contrast of textures and flavors. We also sampled the tempura oysters, which were crispy and light, with a perfectly cooked oyster inside. Their nigiri was also fresh and each nigiri included a thick cut of the fish. Also, $15 for some fresh Hokkaido uni was a pretty good deal (usually restaurants charge MP for uni but Sushi Ran had a fixed price). Overall, Sushi Ran is a solid choice. While the service could be improved, the quality of the food was good.

The atmosphere was pleasant, the service was friendly, and the dishes looked nice, but the flavors just didn’t stand out. I was expecting more - everything tasted a bit bland.

Overall, the restaurant is overrated. We expected much more, but it was OK. The staff was friendly. Food quality and taste needed to be more consistent. Some of the dishes were good, some OK. The rice quality was average and not as expected from a Japanese restaurant. The restaurant and atmosphere need improvements.

Ate at Sushi Ran as a group of four. I have been here several times before, so I knew the cost would be on the higher side. The service was disappointing. We sat for a while with only water before the waitress finally came by to take our drink order. The bussers looked like they were working much harder than the actual servers. I do not need a server to be overly friendly, but our waitress was noticeably cold. This was consistent with my past visits here. As for the sushi, keep in mind that nigiri at Sushi Ran is served as a single piece. The fish is good, but you are paying more and receiving less compared to most sushi restaurants. I have eaten sushi all over the world and the quality here is very good, but it is not mind-blowing as the pricing implies. We started with miso soup and salads. I wish we had skipped them, since they were nothing special. The miso tasted like what you would get at any basic Japanese restaurant and the salad felt light on dressing and ingredients. We also ordered cauliflower, eggplant, and dumplings for apps. These were tasty but the portions were small. For drinks we ordered a bottle of sake and a few cocktails. When the nigiri arrived, some pieces were fresher than others. Everything was solid, but again, not at the level I would expect for the price. Our total bill was over $600 and, as is common in the Bay Area, there was some BS extra fee added on for a health mandate. Lastly, I would note the interior did not match the cost of the meal. I understand that many Japanese restaurants favor a minimalist style, but the space felt plain and overly bright. There was nothing memorable about the decor that justified the high prices. I don't think I'll return unless someone else is paying.
