so.yum.akara! the plant based balls are perfectly and freshly fried upon order, and the red sauce is so flavorful and spicyyy 🤤🔥
Veggie burger goes hard and with a side of spicy plantains? Game changer. It came highly recommended of course but I was not at all prepared for how good it would be. Owner is a very sweet guy too. Can’t wait to be back.
I’ve lived in the neighborhood for 6+ years, tried many places and I would have to say this is now in my top 3. Three words to describe Akara House: Fresh. Innovative. Incredible. It’s a breath of fresh air. Amazing flavors and textures combine to create a one of a kind burger. The owner was so kind, so helpful, very professional and humble. I will be returning more than once. God bless this business! Also I don’t have a photo because I ate it so fast 😂 BUT it looked better than or just like the photo. I tried the LEKKI BURGER 🤤🤤🤤10/10
Everything was amazing. I almost cried tasting the Karas even tho I am not from Nigeria but you can tell they seasoned the food with the heart! It reminded me of my home country. I wish I took a picture but the plantain portion is generous and is Eco wrapped
I went there for the first time with some friends a few days ago and it was so delicious! Great place for vegan food. I got the fritters plate and it was delicious. There isn’t a ton of seating inside but we sat outside and it was nice. The staff are all very warm and friendly. Would highly recommend!
This is one of my favorite restaurants in Brooklyn. I’m vegetarian and am often unable to enjoy the vast majority of cuisines in Africa as a result, as most (not all) staples tend to be meat-heavy. I’m really grateful to Akara for offering clean, olive-oil based, delicious, healthy, Nigerian cuisine. The food is authentic, which is very noteworthy. I did also want to express that the owner and restaurant staff are very pleasant, knowledgeable, and kind, and to be in their presence is especially lovely.
Owner was dope. Don't expect the food to come quick, which a plus for me bc it let's me know it's being cooked from scratch. The food was good, even the next day eating it cold. Only thing I wasn't crazy about was the jollof, guess I expected something different from all the jollof rave videos I had been watching.
I live around the corner and was so happy when this Crown Heights staple relocated closer to me. The owner is a treasure and full of enthusiasm for his creations that are delicious. The sidewalk table atmosphere is great urban experience of the vitality of crown heights renaissance. I’m a fan of the Abuja Burger named after the beautiful capital of Nigeria.
First time trying an akara patty - had it on a burger with cheese and it was REALLY good. I am a meat eater but this burger was so good I will absolutely be coming back for more. Great spot every person who enjoys delicious food, and especially great for both vegetarians and vegans. The akara patty was well seasoned, crispy outside with a hearty satisfying inside, great sauce, the vegetables crisp and fresh and the pickles were so tasty too. The whole thing together was 10/10! I had the suya plantains which were tasty as well. Also, the NICEST man helped me and I think was the chef as well - THANK YOU for your hospitality. Akara House itself is small with a couple spots for dining in, but I walked by and took it to go. Next time I will try the wrap and the jolof rice!! Delicious!
Friendly service and friendly customers, we were able to dine inside at the 3 window seats. Delicious first akara experience and only wish we also got the plantains! Sadly this place opened just as I leave the neighborhood so I had to try it on my last day. It would be worth the trip back if I’m ever around!
Outstanding. I had the akara veggie sandwich. The best. Live in the neighborhood and this place has been on my list. The owner super nice and knowledgeable had a nice chat with him while I waited for my sandwich. Tastes incredible and the pepper sauce was the best hot sauce I’ve had in a long time. Going back to try the rice dishes. Highly recommend.
I'm African American, not Nigerian, and I eat meat. I say all that so you can understand when I say the Akara Sandwich aka bean burger is the best I've tasted in the hood, better than a lot of real meat and alllllll other bean burgers, you know its coming from a meat eating regular chick from the hood. With the cucumber and mild spice, it's like the Popeyes chicken sandwich except not bad for you and not from a fast food chain. Freshly and originally made bean/veggie burger with the sweet bun. Was darn good. Light, fluffy, crunchy on the outside, moist on the inside texture. No picture, I ate it too fast. Guess I'll have to get another and some of those veggie bites.
I am surprised by all the very high ratings. I was not exactly blown away by this place. I ordered the Made in Lagos burger and the homemade lemonade. The lemonade was refreshing and a bit different in am undescribable way. Sweet but a little salty, felt very refreshing on a warm day. The Made in Lagos burger was a little bit of a letdown. The toppings were excellent and flavorful, but the akara patty was so dry and dense, it really subtracted from the overall burger experience. There are 2 benches to wait for your food and a small bar countertop with a few chairs if you want to stay and eat.
Akara House is a solid choice for quick bites. The Made in Lagos burger was a highlight, and the Jollof rice with fritters and the Kale salad were tasty. The staff were friendly, and the owner even shared egusi samples for us to try. Although the place is a bit small and got cramped when we were there, the fast service rounded out an overall good experience. I'd love to go again soon and have their classic Akara burger.
Was excited to try! I ordered the Victorian Island Burger without vegan cheese and yucca fries. Upon first bite, all I could taste was very sour mustard and was instantly turned off 🤮. The mustard and mayo were the stars on this bean-based patty, I would’ve preferred the opposite. Although the bean-patty tasted a bit like bread. The $9 yucca fries were thick and overly dry. 😒 We left very hungry still and ended up eating Halal food down the block. I won’t try it again.
The worst food I ever tasted. The akara burger is nasty and not properly cooked. There moi moi is nasty soggy and undercooked. I don’t think they are Nigerian because this is the worst food ever give me my money back I had to throw it away.
