I had an epic birthday dinner last night. My best friend took me there as a surprise. Chef was so amiable and the food excellent. Was so full and happy with the 19-course menu. I love the local laid back atmosphere. Will come back!
Wow! What a great expansion for Yamashiro - this side is new (4-weeks old as of posting this) and it might be one of the best omakase experiences in NYC. My friend and I did the 19-course meal for $108, and each course was a hit. Fresh, balanced, and well conceived. It was amazing to watching Chef Jimmy work and explain each dish. On one hand, I’m worried this place is going to blow up and become impossible to get into, but on the other, I’m not one to gate-keep and they deserve to be discovered! Thank you Kelly, Jay, and Chef Jimmy for such an amazing experience - can’t wait to come back!
The most delicious, mind blowing omakase I have ever been to. Jimmy was our chef, and he was so skilled with the knife and knowledgeable about such minute details. He was kind enough to explain each course to us down to the exact species of fish, the cut, the temperature, and how every ingredient is made complement the flavors! He apparently studied under a master for 5 years in Japan before coming here and WOW does it shine through in his work. Wait staff was also impeccable – she was so attentive to every need, and so quietly professional. You can tell both of them have such passion. My favorites in our 16 course was the soromoro appetizer, otoro seared by oak charcoal, kinmedai, and the uni; but the courses change based off the season and the fish purchased fresh. The price is very reasonable as well for the amazing quality we received. Very very much recommend.
We had such a great experience at this omakase spot !! Would highly recommend going there if you’re looking for high quality fish in a welcoming atmosphere ! The flavors are outstanding & everything tasted super fresh.
It’s the memory you’re going to make here that elevates their omakase to the top. From personalized catering, ingenuously creative dishes and extravagant value - well there’s a reason Yamashiro has been around for over a decade. Their standout Chawanmushi deserves its own recognition for its depth and breadth. Trust me - you’ll be sleeping like a baby tonight
This was an incredible experience. The chef was amazing !!!! Music and staff were great. The 19 course omasake was a 1000/10 experience. Such as a variety of flavors and beautiful presentation. Each meal kept getting better and better. So out of this world. Cannot wait to come back!
Loved their new Omakase experience! Chef was friendly and highly skilled. Tailored the meal to our taste. Everything was impecable from the flavors to the plates! Really appreciated the creativity of the chef serving us a wide variety of flavors including otoro topped with foie gras! Stunning!
An unforgettable omakase that redefines sushi—delicate, decadent, and expertly crafted. Highlights include the chawanmushi, otoro caviar, and A5 wagyu with truffle. Truly a must-visit for sushi lovers.
I recently dined at Yamashiro in Brooklyn and was thoroughly impressed by the overall experience. From the moment I stepped in, the attention to detail and the level of service were remarkable. The staff was attentive, ensuring a welcoming and comfortable dining environment. One of the highlights of my visit was the exceptional quality of the sashimi. The variety was incredible, offering a wide range of choices that aren't commonly found in other sushi spots. Each piece was notably large, making each bite more enjoyable. The freshness of the fish was evident, contributing to the rich flavors and the satisfying dining experience. The sake selection at Yamashiro deserves a special mention. It was rich and diverse, perfectly complementing the meal. Whether you're a sake aficionado or new to the drink, you'll find something that suits your palate. What truly stood out was the value for money. Despite the high quality of food and service, the prices were very reasonable. It's not often you find such a gem that combines affordability with top-notch quality. In summary, Yamashiro in Brooklyn is a must-visit for anyone looking for an authentic and high-quality sushi dining experience. The combination of fresh sashimi, attentive service, and a great selection of sake, all at a reasonable price, makes it a standout choice.
The omakase experience was incredible. One of the best meals I’ve had in a while! The service was amazing and every serving was delicious. I cannot recommend enough! Kelly was so sweet & attentive. I can’t wait to go back!
Food here was very delicious and surprisingly affordable! The Bento Box just cost $20 dollars and look all it brings! I was very satisfied and took some food home. This is a small comfy place in Myrtle St. perfect for a date with your partner or friends. Staff is very welcoming and friendly. Definitely great place for some sushi, tonkatsu, chicken teriyaki and pumpkin soup.
Always has great food the spicy tuna by far my favorite. The chicken tempura roll is super crunchy and the flavors blend well together.
I don’t remember what I ordered exactly but the beef from this noodle was amazing. It’s very tender and soft, making it easy to consume. The noodles were fine, though a bit dry because it was stir fried.
One of the best omakase’s in Brooklyn - every course is its own creative and unique experience of flavors singing in harmony! Not only is this the freshest fish and seafood, but the chef is so attentive to ensuring each bite is exquisite. I love the purism of just fish, but the subtle adjustments of adding some truffle here, caviar there, pickled yuzu, foie gras and wait for it…gold sparkles - just enhances the flavors of the fish. Not only is it incredible but the value is great. 12 courses for $88 or 19 courses for $108 with the most attentive service is such a deal. This place opened mid 2025 while next door is the restaurant from the same owners that have been around for 20 years. Definitely go check them out!
Hate to give this review because I love the ability to make a last minute reservation and get in but this is one of the best omakase experiences I’ve ever had. No frills- great service, insane culinary experience that leaves me in awe. This should be your new favorite omakase in the city!
First time order take out from the website. The transaction was smooth. Portions are good. The maki rolls are well-made: Rice to fish ratio is good. The sashmi is fresh. Will order again. Glad I finally tried the neighborhood spot.
Wonderful experience. For the price, the quality is excellent and it comes with your choice of a bottle of sake as well. Both the head chef and the owner were sweet, welcoming, and hospitable - the experience from start to finish was warm. Chef Jay was experienced, creative, meticulous, and talented; the dishes were curated with precision and care and were absolutely delicious. Can't wait to go back, would recommend 10/10
I have been to quite a few omakase and Yamashiro is by far the best experience that I had. The chef Jimmy studied in Japan for 5 years. I learned so much during the dinner regarding different fishes characteristics. They get the fish freshly from Japan. I learned to appreciate the difference in taste and texture of different salmons. The food is ridiculously good. The service is impeccable. My sake was filled quietly with every sip I took. I highly recommend the restaurant. Too bad I am from out of town, or else I would definitely be a regular there.
My favorite Thai restaurant is this one. My spouse and I adore their fried rice with basil. I found the pork and basil fried rice last week. It tastes really good. The beverages are fantastic. Very nice and revitalizing. I've never been here, and the atmosphere is really laid back. They also make delicious dumplings. You won't be let down, I promise. eating at home or out. Excellent cocktail options for their happy hour. Come enjoy yourself and unwind. You can relax and decompress here by reading a book or listening to music. I adore this site.
i had one of the best waiter there!! such great service!! Had to tip him bc of how great he was!! keep ayden hired he does a good job i will be coming back
We’re sort of regulars here and noticed a slight shift in management maybe. Not sure if they got rid of the older staff but the young man serving us is friendly and helpful with explaining their fall special menu. I crave the shrimp wonton soup often so we popped in for some and we also decided to try something new. I did the Kailan entree with shrimp, a huge portion of Chinese broccoli and alil mushrooms and my husband got the fall special Pad Ka Prao Moo Krob which is crispy pork belly with a fried egg over rice. I enjoyed my meal with alil extra hot sauce. He didn’t seem to enjoy his much, says it was missing that extra kick. We’ll be back, maybe sticking to our regular meals we’ve enjoyed before.
This is my favorite Thai place to eat. My husband and I love their Basil Fried Rice. Last week I discovered the basil fried rice with pork. It's soooo delicious. The drinks are amazing. So cool and refreshing. I have never come here and the ambiance is so chill. Their dumplings are also great. Trust me you will not be disappointed. Dining in or dining out. Great drink choices for their Happy hour. Come on out and enjoy and relax. Read a book, listen to music while you can just unwind here and clear your head. Love love love this place.
alrighty, I gotta start out by saying I don’t EVER review places, but my bsf + I used to be in Pratt and we ALWAYS visited this cute gem — I felt obligated to give a review not only cus of how good the food was, but because of how badly our server was being treated. the table next to us kept asking him for reccommendations then GOT MAD AT HIM for giving his opinion. and then they got angry because he wouldn’t give them free food?? I digress, but STOP TREATING YOUR SERVERS LIKE SLAVES BECAUSE YOU’RE ON A POWER TRIP!!!!!!! Thai 101 was amazing, the portions were great (gen so filling, hadn’t ate all day and I still feel satisfied) and we are definitely coming back 💕 ayden if you’re seeing this we love you + you’re an amazing waiter + I’m so sorry you had to deal with that woman!!! don’t ever let horrible people like that get to you and keep that positivity up - nicollete, erika, and bronya
I came there 3 times ordered the same Bangkok fried rice with chicken. The chicken is ALWAYS EXTRA SMALL AND THE EGGS THAT SAYS ON THE MENU isn’t noticeable. I go there in person and it’s extra with chicken and it’s not an item Which is on the LUNCH SPECIAL. That is the REASON FOR THE LOW RATINGS. MIND YOU THIS IS A DIFFERENT OWNER. I HAVE BEEN GOING SINCE THEY WERE ACROSS THE STREET, SO I KNOW THE DIFFERENCE IN THIS. I ONLY ORDER THIS FROM YEARS ON END. I ASKED THE HOSTESS WHAT HAPPENED TO THE EGGS AND WHERE’S THE CHICKEN TWICE. SHE HAD TO LOOK CLOSELY AND SAY ITS RIGHT THEFE I SAID WELL WHERE IS THE EGG. ALL I HEARD THEN WERE THE CRICKETS. THIS ISN’T AN INEXPENSIVE ITEM ESPECIALLY SINCE IT’S RICE. COME BACK OLD OWNER AND CHEF.
The food here was AMAZING! When I visited however, there was a rowdy group of people who kept threatening to leave a bad review if a discount was not given… Managed to even find them in here 🫣… Besides that though, their NYPD duck was so good! Super underrated, and don’t know how people still complain about the prices.
I Had a great time at this place. I was almost about to go to that other Thai place on the same block but my Yelp app steered me here! Yelp always comes through. This place was empty, save for an idling server sitting and a guy charging his phone at a table. But I wasn't deterred. It was Sunday before Labor Day. The beach not the concrete jungle of NY had the attention of the masses and understandably so. The weather was perfect. But I was hungry after my haircut and I wanted to eat nearby so I could have a long walk back to subway and get my exercise. I had two mixed drinks (Jungle juice and One Night in Bangkok)here and both of them were expertly crafted. The fried calamari appetizer was nothing special but it was good. The main course. Pineapple fried rice with shrimp was amazing. Rice cooked perfectly as were the shrimp. The portion was enough for leftovers. My server Marissa was very attentive. My water stayed full and my table was cleared frequently. She asked if everything was fine during every visit to my table. I cannot say enough about how delicious the fried rice was. A perfect 100 for Thai 101.
Solid sushi spot that hits the spot when you’re craving sushi and other Japanese food. The lunch specials are a good deal. They also have a few non-Japanese items too, like soup dumplings, which are decent.
Food is great. Service, however, sucks. You will easily wait 10-15+ minutes after the quoted pickup time, you’ll be told “just a couple more minutes” for half an hour, and the whole process is excruciating. I don’t recommend ordering to pickup from this restaurant at all unless you want a headache.
the young man serving has zero customer service skills. he refused to enter my drink order because he didn’t think it would taste good, left us at the table to take calls, & did not provide prompt or regular service. horrible vibe. the portion sizes are not worth the money spent. there are too many thai spots on myrtle to support this one.
Stay Away. I realize this negative review would appear more convincing if I gave a moderate two or three stars, but how can you give ANY stars to a restaurant that serves food which seems to include rotten ingredients? I bit into a shrimp that tasted like rancid, spoiled meat. A thoroughly disgusting flavor. I had to spit it out into a napkin to keep from gagging. We had two entrees, pad thai w shrimp and pad see ew w tofu, and two apps—fried calamari and fried spring rolls. Total $56. The appetizers were edible, the entrees were not. In addition to a bad shrimp in the pad thai, there were notes of putrification in the pad see ew dish. The pad thai was the greasiest we’ve ever seen. It left orange pools of oil on the plate and a lingering sense of malaise in our stomachs. Very sorry we chose this restaurant for takeout.
