It was included in Whisky Advocate top 101 whisky bars not for 1 reason, but for many. First and foremost, Mike is super knowledgeable, creative, loves the craft, and most of all very nice and kind. 2. You might find maybe a place or two in the city that have as large a selection of whiskies, but definitely not with the same uniqueness, and personal effort put into it to curate it for your enjoyment. 3. It's one of the few places that have the rare Athyr - Lebanese single malt whisky 4. You can try many whisky infusions and cocktails, especially the Dark Malt old fashioned, one of my favorite. Do you need more convincing? It really is that good, head there and try it out for yourself 🥃
Whiskey lovers look no further! Here, you will find some of the most unique bottles you will ever come across. The variety that exists here is hard to come by and the service is absolutely incredible. As any whiskey lover knows, the history behind each bottle, and each brand, is often times as interesting as what you are drinking, and as best put by my server, "We don't sell whiskey, we sell stories." Love it! Highly recommend.
Amazing venue for whiskey of all types with a very knowledgeable owner and staff. Winner of whiskey bar of the year! A must stop for those in search of memorable pours.
Great cocktails and good service, not sure what else to say. The whole group were happy with their cocktail choices from light and refreshing options to spirit-forward ones, aka boozy. Very extensive cocktail menu is a plus, with several barrel-aged choices as well. Server was friendly and attentive. Would definitely return.
Walked in here on a Thursday night after 8pm and it was fairly empty. Low music & lighting. Lots of whiskey but I had the Ancient Fashioned which was so tasty that I had 3. Highly recommend going with their reserve beverages. The bartender Bill was so kind by offering me chocolates, totally needed them after the day that I had!
The bartender, Annie is incredible. She’s so friendly, gave local recommendations for things nearby, and the drinks were amazing. Such a wide variety of drinks. Service is top notch and can’t wait to come back.
This place is a gem! Traveled over an hour and looking forward to returning often. Mike is extremely knowledgeable. If spirits are your thing, specifically whiskey/ bourbon, it's impossible to leave feeling anything less than satisfied.

Absolutely fantastic experience! The patrons were very friendly and outgoing, and the owners were even more so. We weren't exactly sure what we wanted, but they curated a couple custom flights that were fantastic and told us all about them after we'd had the chance to try them. It's a great spot for a date (if you're both into whiskey), or a good hang with friends. And the prices are very fair. Looking forward to returning!
Love this bar! Lovely intimate dark-ish delightful little Brooklyn "hole in the wall" in size but not in quality. Not a huge whiskey expert or staunch lover by any means but can greatly appreciate a wonderful hot toddy in the Fall and Winter and Travel Bar and deliver that excellently among many other amazing cocktails. Have truly never had a poor or mediocre drink there! When I lived in Carroll Gardens this spot was my 'special treat' spot to go solo, sit at the stools and people watch and drink an ever-so-tasty $$$ but quality beverage. One of the bar tenders is super not friendly but they still make excellent drinks so it didn't irk me too much. An older gentleman perhaps the owner once had a flaming tasting and was very passionate, sweet, and fun to chat with. It's never too crowded every time I've been and they always play excellent music like Depeche Mode/Cure type vibes and I love that. Highly recommend! A+
First time coming here for an event and I was amazed at this place. The whiskey selection, the ambiance, everything was great. Mike the owner introduced himself and was also tending bar, him and the rest of his staff were nothing but amazing. They make you feel welcomed after a while you almost feel like you have been coming to travel bar for years. I left the bar feeling like I was a regular there. That goes back to the great job Mike and his staff do. I can now understand why this is one of the best whiskey bars in the country and why travel bar is a staple to the community it serves. It was the first but definitely not the last time I come to travel bar
I can not get enough of this place. Mike, the owner, is a wealth of conversation and whiskey knowledge when he is there but everyone working there knows their stuff. So much whiskey and incredible cocktails to choose from and only a couple of blocks from the train.
I have drank (a lot) on 6/7 continents and this is hands down my favorite bar ever. The drinks are incredible (great whiskeys, delicious cocktails, awesome beers on tap), Mike (owner/bartender) is an amazing bartender and overall awesome guy, the ambience is top notch...it's the best version of the neighborhood bar there could be. High quality drinks, none of the pretentious BS or astronomical prices you'll find at other NYC bars. Mike/Travel Bar were so great to us from our first time there. My wife and I, along with many of our friends have had incredible times here. Travel Bar provided the specialty cocktails for our wedding, we've celebrated many birthdays at the bar, entertained out of towners, and stumbled in randomly just to have a great drink. We recently moved out of BK, but we're already planning our next trip back. Can not recommend Travel Bar highly enough. It's just really unfortunate they no longer serve the 1/1 rare tequila Mike once hid behind the bar...
"A neighborhood bar woth a whiskry proboem". The tagline fits. Early on a Saturday... just what I wanted. Classic Willie on the speakers and classic Manhattans and Old Fashions flowing. (Music was actually a fun electic mix that went with the relaxed early Sat night vibe, not just Willie and his cohort and all soets of drinks available.)
Visited with my brother yesterday. It was an incredible experience. Highly knowledgeable and fun bartender/owner, awesome room (+1 for those light fixtures) and top-tier cocktails/spirits/drinks. I rarely go out of my way to write reviews but this is the least I could do. This place is legendary. I can't wait to come back.
I’ve been going here for years, and should have written a review long before now. Hands down my favorite bar in New York. Extraordinary selection and second-to-none cocktails. Relaxed, friendly environment with great staff. I now live in Staten Island, but Travel Bar alone makes the trip back to Brooklyn worth it!
1st time visit. Visiting NYC from Cali. Came to see some friends with my hubby. He loves bourbon and we were told this is one of the places to be. It did not disappoint. Service: 10 stars! Bartender was the best. Very knowledgeable and great sense of humor. Drinks: You have to order the maple old fashion. Delish! The tiki old fashion was also a favorite. Atmosphere; Chill vibe. In a nutshell must go! Cheers! 🍸 🍹 🍸
I'm reluctant to rate this place because of I do, everyone will know about it. No longer the secret jewel of Brooklyn, TravelBar has broken into the big world. Absolutely phenomenal whiskey selection is the starting point...however, Mike is not only a fabulous host but an insane cocktailian. And you'll feel like it's the only bar you'll want to come back to.
Best whiskey bar I’ve been to and it’s not even close! Selection is insane, stuff you’ll never get anywhere else. And the service is awesome—Mike and Bill treat us well every time!

Decent whisky collection, interesting cocktail menu. We tried a couple times to ask questions about the whisky selection, and both times the bartender just curtly told us “everything they have is on the menu”. It wasn’t very busy and their whisky list isn’t very big, so it’s pretty disappointing that they couldn’t offer better service - plenty of better whisky bar options in the city.
Great place with fairly priced drinks and your standard Brooklyn clientele. While the drinks were pretty good, how you are treated generally differs based on who is behind the counter; the owner/proprietor is great: warm, personable and attentive, who very clearly cares about his establishment and customers. Other bartenders may need improvement.
