We travelled from the UK and found this place after some online searching, fantastic service from Adam and he gave us some great local filming locations as we were touring about for them. The chilli dogs were great and the lemon ice box pie was incredible! Would 100% return when we're in LA again 👌
Best chili on the planet, made with beef suet so it’s nice and rich. The spicy chili is actually spicy so if you can’t handle a bit of heat, downgrade to the regular. Chili powder is available on the counter and there is a secret hot sauce drawer that is stuffed to the brim with amazing custom hot sauces. The atmosphere is in incredible, like stepping back into the 1940s. Not a hipsters in sight. This is an old timey place, no air conditioning, enjoy the real deal and don’t be a sissy.
If you can handle some spiciness, I would order the spicy chili, its got some kick to it, but definitely doable. The service here is very welcoming, and chill vibe. I think they are also working on the bar next door. First time coming here and compared to other chili places, it's definitely up there.
Chili John’s has a bit of vintage charm and has been serving their chili since 1946 in the heart of Burbank!! They’ve got Old-school diner vibes, with a U-shape dining counter and diner decor. They make their special recipe chili in house; simmering for 20 hours. You can get it with a burger, on a hotdog or in a bowl of spaghetti, rice or beans. You can also get it to go. You can customize your chili: original beef, chicken, turkey or vegetarian; 12oz $9.50 16oz $13.50 Cheese and sour cream is an additional $1.25. They have clean ingredients, no artificial preservatives or coloring and use no seed oils!! Lunch Specials Available from 11-3 Chili Dog Lunch Special Chili Dog with mexican soda & a bag of chips $13.95 Chili Spaghetti Lunch Special Regular bowl of chili spaghetti with a mexican soda & a bag of chips $13.95 House made Original Lemon Ice Box or Pineapple Cream pie with graham cracker crust and topped with fresh made whipped cream. Slice of Pie $5.95.
First time visit. A small quaint diner with counter seating and single table near the door. Greeted as I entered with a smile and hello. I had a combo, “Sloppy John’s” with the spicy beef chili and man did that hit the spot. No disappointment here! Generous portion of mouthwatering chili atop two nicely toasted hamburger buns which had shredded cheese on them (before the chili was topped on) which made it nice because being wedged between the bun and the hot chili on top, the cheese melted much more quickly and incorporated itself into the overall flavourful meal. Fries were nice and crispy shoestring fries with a light dose of seasoning and the iced tea was unsweetened and very refreshing. Staff were engaging and pleasant. Quality food and service at a very reasonable price. I quite enjoyed this meal and look forward to returning.
I went with Build Your Bowl. Beef chili with spaghetti and all the toppings. It was delecious and lives up to the name! The chili dog was also very good. The server was so friendly and had a smile on her face the whole time. Small parking lot in the back.
If you haven’t been to Burbanks longest operating restaurant then you have been missing out. They have the chili restaurant that dates back to the 1900’s comes from Green Bay. The ultimate chili dog is definitely the best dog I’ve had. The chili spaghetti is rich and hearty, perfect for the cold weather. And the snoop dog chili cheese fries are crack! Make sure you save room for dessert since they have a delicious lemon pie. I wish I lived around the corner from here so I can have this at least twice a month.
Always worth stopping at Chili John's, the oldest restaurant in Burbank.
Chili John's is a Burbank institution! Since opening it's doors in 1946, they've been serving up happiness and satisfaction, one Bowl at a time. If you've passed this corner and have not stopped in to try it, then to quote a local DJ..."Why are you being so mean to yourself?" My personal favorite, the spicy Chili Spaghetti with Crackers, Cheese & Onions, paired with a homemade Lemonade and finished off with a slice of the Icebox Lemon Pie is a 'Must Have!' They also offer a variety of imported regional bottled sodas. Which can bring a smile to the face of non-native Californians who may miss the soft drinks that they remember from their home States. So gather the friends & neighbors and meet us at Chili John's!
We had a fun time! The owners, Steve and Claudine were so wonderful. They told us stories and the history of ChiliJohn's as we ate delicious chili dogs 🌭 chili cheeseburgers 🍔 and 🍋🥧 lemon pie. Steve even gave my son a super hot sauce of 5 million scovilles... He loved it 🌶️🥵 Please go support these great people and history filled restaurant! ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
The chili is absolutely perfect. You know instantly from the first bite this is what you want to fill your belly. Service was friendly and engaging. If you don't appreciate and frequent joints like this, then one day all that will remain are franchise mega-chains.

Chili John’s is such a cool and nostalgic place to get some AMAZING chili!! By far the best chili I’ve ever had and yes it’s spicy but that’s how chili should be made 👍 not to mention that their history is also interesting. My family and I stopped for lunch, had great chili, super yummy malted milkshakes, and took home as much chili as we could. Guy Fieri was totally right when he said this place is Dynamite 🧨

Good chili in the 40s diner one of the oldest diners in Burbank also so it’s a little dusty that’s part of the charm. Stop by have a bowl of chili get a hotdog order up a cane sugar soda pop in a bottle. Have a good lunch.
My daughter Jasmine is visiting from Nashville Tennessee is the one that found this cute fun little restaurant in Burbank ! We are currently having their famous chili and spaghetti meal ! I have never tried spaghetti and chili together so I would have to say it is one of a kind and very delicious !
Not enough staff to judge the waitress. The chili hot dog was the best I've ever had . Its the chili. Great tap beer .

I had been told of this place being in trouble of closing due to a loss of customers from the local area. It has some historical significance, as the oldest restaurant in Burbank, has been used as a movie or TV location and their Chili recipe has been around since the 1880s. Interesting small place with a horseshoe seating area with fixed, raised stools and a hot center island used for food serving. (A small table was pushed to the very front, with 2 or 3 chairs.) Service was friendly, where I was greeted by 3 or 4 employees as they exited the hanging cloth partition leading to the kitchen. After a chance to view the menu, being my first time here, I ordered the lunch special: hot (spicy) Beef Chili on Spaghetti with cheese and onions, a bag of Lay's chips and a bottle of cane sugar Dr Pepper. After many minutes of waiting after taking my order, the server assembled my order from the center island. Chili was a fine grind with a little less kick than I expected for a hot chili, no beans but there are hot sauces available... but you have to ask. I found this out AFTER I'd finished my meal. Of course, I had to have a slice of their ice box line pie... which I needed to wait for as they were making the whipped creme. Super Fresh! Well, O spent a pleasant hour and a half at this iconic place in Burbank, tried their Chili, ate their pie and drank their bottle of cane sugar Dr. Pepper. I sat on their well worn stool and was the first and only customer for maybe 40 minutes; another 2 people sat at the table and 1 person came in as I was going out the door. This probably will be my last visit here ... abd I wish them luck.
Vintage fun. My first time there. Any version of chili you could ever want. Med is still very hot. Tasty but hot. I will try chicken chili and veggie chili next. (FYI there was no air conditioning when I was there on a spring afternoon) It opened in 1940 they said. You can order a Mason jar full to go. Cool vintage vibe. I will be back.

Let's come to Burbank's oldest continuously operating restaurant for their chili recipe. I had: 1. Chicken tenders and fries 2. Chili spaghetti and beans with oyster crackers - it's sooo spicy! 3. Chili hot dog 4. Soda 5. Lemon pie
Great food, hole in the wall in Burbank. Have driven by it and never noticed it. The chili is great... & btw ..hot really means hot! Seats look like they've been through the Eaton Fire & really need replaced. But if you can get past all this, the chili really is good & filling
Chili John’s I have been curious about this place for a long time. It seems to have been here forever and I have passed it a million times. Every time I drove by, I would think to myself “next time”. Yesterday, a friend of mine posted it on his Instagram and it looked great so I figured why not. We entered the wrong door to start with. The bar had a really retro vibe, but no A/C. Then we went into the Taproom (correct door) which is very bare bones. No frills, spartan, but I am not too into decor. There are mixed reviews from both my wife and I. I have to say that we were both confused because we were told that they didn’t have the ingredients for the Broadway or John the Ripper street dog. There wasn’t clarification on what ingredients which lead to us wondering why my wife couldn’t substitute a bacon wrapped dog, moving on. My wife ended up ordering “The Weeny”, which is a plain hot dog with ketchup and mustard. She got it without mustard. But she really wanted a bacon-wrapped dog and they would not allow her to substitute the dog. She also ordered the Chili Cheese Fries with beef chili (not spicy). She felt there was not enough cheese on her fries, and she felt like the chili was a bit too dry for her taste. As for me, I had the build-your-own bowl with spicy beef chili, beans, spaghetti, sour cream and cheese. I also went with an order of spicy beef chili and cheese fries. I really enjoyed the heat from both of my dishes. It was good to be able to order something spicy and actually have it be spicy. I will be back to try the Ultimate Chili dog or John the Ripper. Next time, I might just add a little extra cheese and sour cream.

OMG this is the worse chili I have ever tasted in my entire life - seriously! It was extremely greasy, had to sop the grease up with a paper towel. It tasted like it’s been there for days- no freshness at all and it made my daughter sick. The hot dog was good but it didn’t have any chili on it. Horrible!
