Avis sur Giamela's Submarine Sandwiches Burbank
Awesome submarine sandwichs! My wife and I shared a large peper steak and we couldn't even finish it. It was massive! We are visiting from out of town, but next time we come here we are definitely eat here again!
This place is a Burbank gem. One of those old school sandwich spots that’s cash only but some of the best subs you can get. My go to’s are the peppered steak or cold cut
I recently got a new job in the area and for lunch was craving a good ol’ sub sandwich. This place is only a short walk from my job that’s a huge +. I ordered the Cold cuts w/ mayo, mustard, tomatoes, onions, and, pickles. On a scale of 10 I’ll give this sandwich an 8 it was good and fresh but nothing amazing taste-wise. The bread is fresh and soft with sesame seeds and the veggies were good and crisp. They put black pepper on all subs and you can customize your sandwich. Customer service was superior❤️🔥. Very friendly and made me feel welcome. When I got there I told the gentlemen at the front that it was my first time being there. He was very helpful and told me about each sandwich and the best sellers which I believe is the pastrami, (don’t hold me on that) You have two size options 6” or 12” I can say the 12” is HUGE😉 it took me 2-3 sessions to eat it also it doesn’t get soggy fast if kept n the fridge. You can tell it’s family-owned and run everything looks original from when they opened I love places like this kinda whole-n-the-wall🥰... Next time I go back I will try the pastrami again n 6” and update this review.
I LOVE GIAMELA’S Subs! Everything from the tuna, the pepper steak, the pastrami.. they all are must try’s and the bread is always fresh! They do not skimp on anything, their sandwiches are truly a meal (not some sad 6 inch from subway). This place is an LA staple and a family favorite. When you walk in Giamela’s you instantly know you will never leave hungry.
Came here today with my buddy and had one of the best cheesesteaks of my life. The staff were kind, quick, and fun to chat with. Nick was welcoming and gave us some fun info about the history of the place. 5/5 would come again!
Been goin there they have good pastrami sandwich and steak and there very friendly customers service is good
What a classic spot. Giamela’s in Burbank is one of those true old-school institutions that’s been holding it down for decades. They’ve got another location in Sunland, but this was my first time hitting the Burbank one. A friend of mine’s been going for years and kept telling me I needed to check it out. I finally made it, and now I get why people swear by it. The place is small and simple, no frills or fancy remodels, just that timeless, comfortable charm. You walk in, order at the counter, and instantly feel like you’re in a neighborhood joint that’s been around forever. They’ve got a short but strong menu, maybe ten sandwiches tops, hot and cold. That’s all they need. The parking lot’s small but manageable, and there’s outdoor seating with shade, plus some tables inside. It’s not modern, but it’s clean and real , the kind of spot where the focus is on the food, not the décor. Now for the sandwiches. The first time I went, I ordered their Pepper Steak, which is kind of their signature. That thing was fantastic. Juicy, loaded with flavor, perfectly cooked peppers and onions, and great bread that holds it all together. For about eighteen bucks, you’re getting a big, heavy sandwich that easily stretches into two meals. Flavor, portion, price, all top marks. The second time I went, I got creative and did a half-and-half: half Pepper Steak, half Pastrami. They charge a few bucks extra for that (about $4.50), which feels a little steep, but I get it, extra work, extra prep. Totally worth it though, because the Pastrami side blew me away. Honestly, I think it beats the Pepper Steak. Tender, smoky, and perfectly seasoned. Next time, I’m going full Pastrami, no hesitation. If I’m scoring it: the Pepper Steak gets a 9.0, the Pastrami combo around 8.6 just because of that upcharge. But the flavor? Easy 9+. Both sandwiches are massive, satisfying, and packed with that old-school deli energy you can’t fake. Overall, Giamela’s is one of the best sandwich spots in L.A., period. Big portions, fair prices, friendly staff, easy parking, and zero pretension. It’s the kind of place that reminds you what a real sandwich should taste like. I’ll be back, probably sooner than I should.
Great place to eat the best pastrami sub sandwich in town. I highly recommend it. Very limited seating as I usually pick up my orders for takeout.
I’ve been to this place since 1994 still the same quality fantastic service great place to eat. I stopped today for a pastrami sandwich. Delicioso highly recommended.
Giamela’s Submarine Sandwiches has been a favorite of mine for over 30 years and they never disappoint. My go-to is the pepper steak with tomatoes, extra onions, pickles, and Italian dressing, packed with flavor every time. My wife and I both love their tuna fish sandwich, fresh and delicious. My second favorite has to be their Italian cold cuts, loaded with meats and perfectly seasoned. The quality and consistency keep us coming back and it’s always a satisfying meal.
Giamela's is my favorite sandwich shop! I've been going there for over 30 years and I've never been disappointed. Their bread is unique and pairs perfectly with their always fresh meats and cheeses. I'm a fan of hot pastrami and have had it from all over SoCal and nobody does it better than Giamela's. It's well seasoned and perfectly moist, never dry or too salty. The decor is early 70's Coppola mobster chic and they only take cash. The sandwiches are the reason it's still there. You will not be disappointed.
This shop is a great hole in the wall for sure. If you're hungry with a couple of bucks and looking for a hearty meal, you don't have to look so far in Burbank. I had the pepper steak and pastrami (a little too hungry), haha. The meat was juicy, and the toppings were a nice balance to the slightly salted meat. They also give you a nice handful of banana peppers! For the price and fast service, they serve up their sandwiches, I forsure we will be back again to tame my hunger.
Love the extra toppings on the subs. Family got the cold cut and pastrami. The smalls were plenty big for everyone. Wish more places put that much pickles /tomatoes etc on theirs! Very busy the whole time we were there. But they were fast and friendly. Prepare for cash only ( no higher then 20's). They could put a little effort into upgrading the seating area. A relative says it's looked like that since he was a kid about 40yes ago. Well worth the visit!
I could not take the photos of the sandwiches because I ate them... Sorry, but they were amazing! I had a pepper steak sandwich that was quite satisfying. The beef was lean which made me think that these cows or these cattle were in excellent shape with no fat! Great value, too. Only $11 for a sandwich that could feed a whole family of 4 or 5 easily. Since I was a bit hungry, I also had pastrami, which was very thinly sliced. This was not as satisfying as the pepper steak for me. The meat had some fat. I also prefer thick cuts of pastrami because I am a bit spoiled by the Langer's. The turkey sandwich was pretty good, too, although the turkey was cold. Anyways, go here when you are hungry because you get a submarine sandwich that is big and heavy. The workers were friendly especially when I started speaking my Spanglish, saying orale mi amigos, que onda?
Haven’t been here in a couple of years, I stopped by today for lunch, the food is still the same yummy food I remember, service is friendly No indoor dining yet but they have 2 tables on their patio you can eat. I love their pepper steak sandwiches. They have been in business for a long time at the same location, that should tell you that the food is good.
Out of this location and the one in Los Feliz, this location is way faster, offers more pickles and tomatoes, only issue being they don't give you the carrots Los Feliz offer, which compliments the sandwich (my opinion).
It's a divey local joint with a laser focus on sub sandwiches. Limited menu, all of it good. The guys taking orders and making sandwiches are genuinely happy and enjoy their work. Very friendly and personable. I had pastrami, she had a sausage sandwich. She declared the sandwich average (marinara average, sausage ok but average). My pastrami was good for what it was but personally disappointing. They heat it in simmering broth, that washes out the salt and flavor and makes it rubbery. Best handling of pastrami IMO is to heat it on the flat top. That renders and softens some of the fat, concentrates the flavor and makes it a little crispy. Then put the cheese on top of that to melt before it goes on the bread, that's a good sandwich. Anyway... The pepper steak is what a lot of people get, looking forward to trying it next time.
The meat for all the different sandwiches is always fresh and delicious! The sandwiches are simple. Meat. Cheese? If you’d like. Mayo, mustard? Whatever you like! They offer chopped tomatoes, pickles and onion! I love all the different sandwiches! Especially, the tuna and the turkey! The building is falling apart and needs a little bit of remodeling. That’s why the atmosphere didn’t get five stars.
GIAMELA'S SUBMARINE SANDWICHES To-go order (phone)– Burbank branch January 14, 2026 bet 11:30am-12nn Amt paid: $29 Food: Extremely SALTY. I enjoy salty food, but this was far beyond my tolerance—the steak or meat was about 3× too salty, even with the sandwich. Service: The staff member was courteous and confirmed the Burbank location when we ordered by phone. However, we were not informed that the restaurant is CASH ONLY! Had this been mentioned before pickup, it would have saved us time going back and forth. Atmosphere: N/A (to-go order)
Got to Giamela’s in Atwater Village or Sunland. This Burbank one blows. Cash only but they don’t tell you that until you get there and they act like they don’t know what a Mr. Gs sandwich is
