I live nearby and stop in once in a while for some take out. Got a Hearst Burger for my dog and a grilled salmon salad for me - both excellent (my pooch would give it six stars ⭐️). Forgot my phone at the counter and there it was with the smiling cashier when I returned 3 hours later. Hallelujah!
My husband and I were here visiting the area for the first time on our anniversary. We didn't stay at the hotel as we weren't aware there was one. We did try their restaurant which was SUPERB! 👌👌 We had breakfast there. My husband chose the chicken fried steak and eggs and hashbrowns. I chose the Denver omelet with country potatoes. Everything was portioned just right. The chicken fried steak had just the right crispyness and so did the potatoes, both styles. My omelet had big pieces of smoked ham and grilled bell peppers. All of it was absolutely delicious while in a clean and calming atmosphere. It was busy and we can see why. Its also family friendly. We are definitely planning on coming back again as we want to try their dinner and their clam chowder as well.
We just had coffee and the waitresses kept filling up our mugs just like in the movies. The food looked good and smelt delicious
SO good!! Shared the seafood pasta with my husband. Server was great! I messed up and forgot to say I have a very severe dairy allergy, the pasta didn’t say on the menu it had cheese but came out with cheese. Server got a new fresh one made super fast, even though that was my fault! Would definitely go back
Great Cavalier coastal kitchen was great food I recommend anyone that goes to San Simeon will like the food
Great food, service and the rooms are so nice and clean
We came in for breakfast several times while stayed at the resort. Staff were courteous and recognized us when we returned. The breakfast burrito was delicious, great savory flavor to it. The Cajun omelet was a great combination of flavorful proteins. Hashbrowns were crispy every time. My boyfriend enjoyed the Denver omelet. The bacon we got as a side on one visit was a good thick quality, no paper thin pork here! In the future, would like to try their lunch or dinner menu.
The restaurant was wonderful. Service was great. Kind and friendly staff. Whoever did the cooking knew what they were doing. A great find for us!!!
Restaurant is located attached to the hotel. It was extremely clean and the service was very pleasant. Had baby back ribs and they were super. The table was roomy and overlooked the ocean. Saw whales breaching in the ocean while eating. I was surprised by the high quality of the food. Definitely going back.
First time having dinner here and I have to say, it started off weird! My husband wasn't hungry but said he'd help me because I was craving clam chowder and the Ribeye sound really good!! So after waiting for a good 40 mins for my food, we asked one of the other servers to call over our server, she goes up to the counter and comes back with Somebody's check!! We looked at each other confused seeing as how we hadn't even gotten our dinner yet!! Laughing we tell her, we haven't had our dinner, we just keep seeing other tables that came in after us getting their food and we're still waiting?!! Our server comes over after a few mins with my ribeye and it looks AMAZING!! He apologized for the delay and confusion and said it took longer because they were cutting me steaks. Had it not been for how amazing it really was and how great our server was it might of been a 4 star lol!! Cooked to perfect! Highly recommend them!
We were staying at cavalier oceanfront resort and got to visit this restaurant. Our server was really amazing and a happy guy. We really liked the food as well. We ordered the French fries, chicken fettuccine Alfredo and buffalo chicken. Everything was delicious.
Very relaxing. The breakfast burrito and french toast were 10/10
You gotta try the steamed clams. The white wine sauce is tangy and garlicy and the clams are fresh. So flavorful!
The service was great, the food we each ordered was awesome. The sea food Diablo was awesome the sauce was great, truly impressed. But most of all I highly recommend the New England clam chowder It had plenty of clams and was just a meal to itself, Now this is what I call a real New England clam chowder “CLAMS “ being the first ingredient “ Table service was great. Thank you Daniel.
We came in for a late night dinner, and were very happy about the vegan option. The impossible burger was delicious!
Broiled Salmon dinner and Chicken Marsala were tasty, good service and very clean . The bread and butter is a good touch, been here a couple of times and we have enjoyed it. Update: we have had breakfast, lunch and Dinner here specially if we stay at the Cavalier Oceanfront Resort depending on our schedule.
This place is a hidden gem! We stopped by just for some drinks and deserts 🍰🍹🍷. Carrot cake was outstanding and their Margarita is to die for. My only suggestion for improving would be to add a few more items to the deserts, aside from the cake/pie selection, maybe a tiramissu and/or a creme brulee. Will definitely love to stop by again if passing on route 1. Thank you! P.S. The view, the location, the atmosphere, and the server are outstanding as well, I was just so carried away by the taste, almost forgot to mention. UPDATE: We stopped here again and had some fish for the main course and it's absolutely fabulous! If you are traveling California 1, make sure to stop by this place and check their sea bass out. Super fresh and tender, bursting with flavor!
Great place for a dinner during a road trip, or after visiting Hearst Castle The fish abd chips was done with fresh cod and a very nice batter I will come back to try their steaks
Wanted something other than the normal dining out meal and the Beef Stroganoff was it. Never have I had it outside of "Homemade" and it did NOT Disappoint!! Kudos to the Chef! The servers were VERY Attentive and Nice! Paid more than usual for "dining out", but EVERY Bite was worth it!!
Since we were staying at the Resort attached to this restaurant we decided to check it out. Being vegan we didn't think we'd have many choices, but they did have some vegan options and then you were able to customize things to make them vegan. I ordered the spinach salad with an impossible burger patty and it was so good. I actually was surprised. Our waiter Daniel was attentive and got all 4 of our vegan orders right. As a vegan eating at a non-vegan establishment we are always asking questions and not expecting much, but this place exceeded expectations. Thanks Daniel for being quick and attentive. We will definitely come back to eat here when we are in the area.
Coming from New York was a different change of scenery. My cousin and I were extremely pleased with the meal, service and attentiveness with the staff. To say that we will be back with our whole family is an understatement! Thank you! If you're in the area by Hearst Castle don't miss this stop!
One the best breakfast spots in front of the North Pacific ocean. Very friendly and nice staff, lots of great menu options and they can customize your dish. Coffee was really good! Delighted is too short to describe the experience. Gracias!
Great place for date night or any occasion. Always amazing view food never disappoint. I recommend you try for yourself.
A good place for a quiet meal. I had an omelet and it was perfectly cooked. The country potatoes were okay. My wife had country fried steak with hasbrowns. It was a decent sized plate of food and was cooked well. I liked her hash browns more than the country potatoes. Scenic dining room with ocean view.
I recently discovered a gem while visiting San Simeon and Hearst Castle. I ordered the prime rib, and my wife chose the halibut, both of which exceeded our expectations in flavor and presentation. The meal was truly delightful. Our server, Danny, was exceptionally attentive, adding a personal touch to our dining experience. If you find yourself in the area, this spot is definitely worth checking out!
Had a great experience unlike others. Wings were crunchy and delicious, fish and chips were superb and Shepard pie was made with fresh vegetables. My only complaint is that my spinach salads wasn’t enough. Maricela was very cordial and helpful by helping us chose our lunch. I will definitely come back. Thank you.
Great Experience at Cavalier Coastal Kitchen! We had a wonderful time at Cavalier Coastal Kitchen. The service was friendly and attentive from start to finish. The food was delicious, with a great variety of dishes to choose from—we tried chicken, fish, and even some kids' meals, all of which were well-prepared and flavorful. The drink options were impressive too, offering something for everyone. It is a great spot for families or anyone looking for tasty food and a welcoming atmosphere on Highway 1, around Hearst Castle. Highly recommend!
Great place to eat, with ocean view. It’s kind of a hidden gem, if you’re driving through San Simeon. The menu is fairly simple, with delicious options. I love the grilled turkey with Ortega on sourdough. Gluten free bread options, available. Impossible Shepards pie is another favorite dish. Amazing flavor and bang for the buck. The ocean view is also quite nice. Definitely recommend.
I was pleasantly surprised by how yummy the food was here! The ratings weren’t amazing online so I was wondering how it would be. The chicken Marsala was delicious and my son had the halibut which was also yummy! My husband had the impossible burger and he has a severe allergy that the manager handled wonderfully! My son had a lemon tart and I had a pear tart, both were great, although a tad expensive for how small they were. Overall it was a wonderful dinner!
Had a lovely meal here one evening , shared the yummy Greek salad and then had the Mediterranean fish dish, paid the $5 to split this into 2 portions, wow so much food 😋 We shared a great bottle of 🍷, good value at $27 for the bottle. Enjoyed it so much we came back the next night. Second time we split the Caesar salad & ordered 2 entrees, very tasty fettuccini but a little over cooked. I had the steak, came with mashed & veggies, very good portions. Split the rose wine , Hearst “Julia” ,very tasty. Had a great waiter- “surfer” Dan? was very energetic & helpful with menu options. Warm rolls with butter were also a nice way to start off. Thanks Cavalier 👏🏽
Well delivered menu. Chorizo breakfast burrito and a cheeseburger. Sampled the seafood fish of fish Salmon.
Nice view of the ocean out the window. The Sea Bass was excellent, but the side dishes were lacking in execution. Rice was dry and undercooked with very little flavor, and the green beans with slivered almonds seemed to be cooked in lemon juice. The flavor of the almonds was at odds with the lemon. My dinner partner had spaghetti, which I could tell she enjoyed because she usually doesn't finish her meal regardless of how good it is. The clam chowder was as good as I have ever had anywhere. The best part of the meal was the bread rolls served with whipped butter. Service was adequate, almost robotic, the waitress could have been a bit more friendly. Maybe she was having a bad day? No smile, no friendly chat. Almost a curt attitude. Checked in on us a little less than would have been appropriate but didn't ignore us.
We had breakfast this morning before heading off to Hearst Castle. The food was fresh and fast. The service was friendly and very helpful. We had waffles, hashbrowns and a breakfast burrito. Everything was brought out very quickly and was very tasty. Great spot to eat while in San Simeon with beautiful views of the ocean too.
This restaurant is right on the beach with nice views of the beach! It’s not a fancy place and you can come as you are! They have an interesting menu, including vegetarian dishes, but it’s a bit pricey, although the place was packed for dinner, there’s no sign of business lost from the road construction!
My boyfriend, and I had the best experience because of our waiter Danny. He provided us excellent customer service, and was overall a really nice guy. I had the Beef Stroganoff, and he had the 1lb Ribeye steak(which he definitely recommends) We then shared the New York cheesecake. Perfect way to end our meal. We will definitely be coming back!
I thought this was a very nice restaurant, the food was nice. I ordered fish & chips and a mai thai, both delicious although the fish filet portions were disappointingly small. But maybe that's an attestant to how delicious it was. We had a nice quiet nice watching the sunset from our table. if we are in the area again i'd love to return
The restaurant is located in the lovely town of San Simeon and we happen to visit here on our way from San Jose to Los Angeles. I like the atmosphere here and the service is absolutely fantastic, i mean all the staff are nice. The portion is a little to much for us so I recommend 2 mains and a salad for a group of 3 or 4.
We came here for dinner and breakfast while staying in San Simeon. Dinner was really good. We ordered the broiled salmon and the BBQ burger with onion rings. Both dishes were very flavorful, fresh, and filling. The salmon - glazed over with a delicious coat of garlic butter - was perfectly tender. Sadly, we waited a really long time to be seated and then to get food. Breakfast was also very good! We got our food much faster this time. We ordered the Garden omelette with country potatoes and the Denver omelette with hash browns. Both were super delicious and filling. The only downside was that I asked for coffee with oat milk but was given regular cow’s milk instead. Wasn’t too happy about that, but I’ll let it pass since the omelette was just that good. Server’s were very attentive and regularly walked around offering more water, coffee, etc. Also, the ocean view from the restaurant is absolutely gorgeous!
We stopped in for breakfast in June, 2023. It was a nice little restaurant. It had beautiful views of the Pacific Ocean. Although it had the morning fog/haze when we were there. So it limited the views at breakfast time. Although even a limited view is better than the view one gets at a lot of restaurants for breakfast. The people we dealt with were very nice. We ordered breakfast which came out friarly quickly. I don't know what it is, but we had two meals at two different restaurants in this area. Both got the orders wrong. Thankfully, we could accept the mess up and didn't say anything. I never say anything. If I do, not until after we finished. So they probably don't know our order was wrong from what she read back to us (that we ordered). But the food was pretty good. Breakfast wasn't inexpensive for what we had. But it also could have been more expensive than it was. All in all, we had a nice breakfast. Our order was wrong, but at least it was something we were still willing to consume. I still recommend the Cavalier Coastal Kitchen for a nice breakfast. We did have a nice breakfast even with the change in plans.
We are coming back here after almost 20 years. Unfortunately, we experienced a significant deterioration in service. When we arrived at the restaurant, the lady at reception was chatting with a server. They just went on chatting, ignoring us. Another server arrived and started coming up to us, when the receptionist woke up and decided to address us. We were seated. Then we just sat for a good 10 minutes before anyone came to ask us if we wanted water. We observed the other tables had a bread basket but we never received one. Then after 15 minutes or so we had to wave down somebody to come take our order. Still no bread basket. We shrugged it off. After about 20 minutes we were brought a bread basket and our food followed 30 seconds later. We asked for freshly ground black pepper and had to wait 7 minutes for it. At no point did anyone check if we needed anything and we had to wave down staff if we wanted water. Eventually, we had to wave down someone for our bill. Our server brought us our bill, never bothered to ask if we wanted dessert and promptly forgot us again. Eventually the receptionist checked us out. There were probably only 6 tables with guests, so it was not like the restaurant was busy. For perspective, the other server was very attentive to the tables he was working. Food was good and so the 3 stars.
Overpriced but friendly. Food good enough.
Ordered the Seafood Stir Fry noodles with vegetables and the Chefs selection 10 oz steak with mashed potatoes and mixed vegetables and both were kind of bland but the chef definitely knew how to cook a steak!! Had to add salt to both dishes. But other than that it was pretty good for the most part. Customer service was on point! Would definitely go back and try other items on their menu.
Experience was average, okay. Food was nothing special. Hamburger meat was overcooked, just plain with lettuce and tomato nothing more. The waitress forgot the soup we ordered. Employees that prepare the plates don't take the time to check if plates are dirty. Onion rings are crunchy but don't taste fresh , rather like they where frozen. You will see the ocean water from the restaurant.
We stayed at Cavalier Oceanfront Resort, so naturally, we chose to try the closest restaurant, Cavalier Coastal Kitchen. I started with margaritas, but unfortunately, they were on the sweeter side, likely due to too much mix. Not quite what I was hoping for! For dinner, I ordered the seafood pasta, which I enjoyed—it was quite good! My husband chose the special of the day, meatloaf, but he was really disappointed with the taste. It seemed like it had been sitting under the heat lamp for a bit too long. Overall, it had its highs and lows. I appreciate the convenience of being close to our hotel, but I hope for better execution on dishes in the future!
I was excited to try this place as I had heard from locals around holiday time that they have a great Thanksgiving and Christmas dinner. Well, I cannot say that we had the best experience. First of all, it took 30 plus minutes to get our food. Other tables that were seated after us were served their food before we got ours. When our food finally came out I asked why it took so long and others were served before us and our served told us that they had to go to their cold storage to get the meat. We had a simple order. A Philly Steak sandwich with onion rings and a cup of clam chowder and 2 waters. A pretty simple order. I could have been totally understanding about the challenges they were facing had anyone checked on us or told us what was going on and at least given us the choice to order something else. But I was only told what happened after the food arrived and I had to ask. Then we noticed all the grease on the onion rings and pooled on the plate and they were so greasy we left most of them as we could not eat them. When a different server came to take our plates we informed him they were in edible and his response was “oh yeah.” Not what you want to hear. The sandwich and clam chowder were just ok. In fairness to our server she did offer us dessert and we declined. So she came back to our table with our check and said she had talked to her manager and they cut our check by half. While we appreciated that immensely, this all could’ve been avoided. Had they spoke to us and not let us sit for 30+ minutes. If you read my reviews I try really hard to be fair and I hate having to give bad reviews but I am also honest. I would give 2.5 stars if allowed but rounded up not down, trying to be fair.
After placing our dinner orders, we noticed that two parties arriving after us were served their meals well before us! We think our waitress just forget to place our order right away, as my meal looked thrown together and overcooked. Thankfully, my wife enjoyed her meal. We won't be eating at this place again!
Swordfish was bland, rice had random hard/uncooked kernels, bread was unusually sour (more than a normal sourdough), and my old fashioned tasted like it was just harsh whiskey without the sugar and bitters. Service also took a bit longer than expected considering it's such a small place, although it didn't take too long for the food to come out after our order was in.
Was hoping for more. Waited for server, someone else finally stepped in. Asked for over medium eggs, got way over easy. Asked for pancakes, never got them but was charged for them. Cinnamon roll was at least a day old and cream cheese frosting separated and tasted old. The frittata was runny inside and i want going to risk it. No flavor except from the feta. Too bad
Super rude service. This was #2 in good rated food and service. My fish halibut 42 bucks frozen in the middle. I watched the staff judge me an my partner .... Not so good experience
This review is about the restaurant. I cannot comment on the food since we never got our order. We entered the restaurant, it wasn't busy. Only 3 tables occupied. The mask wearing Asian Hostess asked us if we had a reservation "no, we just got to town". She reluctantly seated us. We ordered within a few minutes of being seated, from "Danny", our Server. We were brought our salads, no rolls. Two large groups of families entered as we were eating our salads. Both were seated and immediately given water and rolls. We had to ask one of the Busers for rolls, which he gave us with a scowl. One of the families-group of teens with a parent-were seated behind us. Our Server "Danny" rushed to their table and took their orders. After 30 mins. Danny started bringing out that Group's orders, one at a time. We were never acknowledged by Danny that our food was on its way. Another 15 mins went by, and the other large group that was seated in the center of the restaurant, that arrived 10-15 mins after our order was taken, started getting their food, one by one. We asked their Server if she could check on our food. She responded "I will" but continued to bring out the meals for the large group. The ambience of the Cavalier Coastal Restaurant is similar to a Chinese restaurant and seems to cater to Asian clientele, at least that was our experience. They all came after us, ordered after we did, and were all served before us. We were ignored and left with the impression we were not welcomed. We finally walked out, no one noticed. The place is not cheap. $16 for a small glass of wine. You'd expect better service for these prices!
This was by far the most disgusting restaurant I have EVER eaten at. The food was absolutely terrible. Such a bummer given the beautiful location. The fish tasted like it had been in the freezer for several years, was covered in freezer burn, was heated up in a microwave then thrown on a plate with a greasy sauce poured on it. The rice was partially cooked and had several uncooked rice grains mixed in with it. The mashed potatoes tasted like they came straight out of a box. They were very chalky. The sourdough rolls had an overwhelming sour taste. There’s a female waitress who was great and a hard worker. Unfortunately for her, her partner (man with a ponytail) spent more time standing in the back watching her work than serving tables. Needless to say we won’t be going back EVER!
Tldr; Despite high rating, avoid at all costs. Long wait, but empty tables. 30$ dollar main course, but 70s furniture. Ocean front, but no ocean views and smells like old grease. Exactly what you would expect from a decaying rut of a place. Unfit to be called a restaurant, more of a cafeteria galore. Nothing more to be expect from a business monopolizing the San Simeon area... We went across the street to the bar and grill and were super happy. Read the reviews, they are from pensioners who think this hotel/restaurant is a great place to go on a honeymoon...
Even if you’re tired worth it to go into Cuyucas. It was convenient to be across from our room but we didn’t sleep from the food. My wife was sick from the food in the middle of the night, I had moderate to severe heart burn, and my son thought it was terrible. My daughter actually threw up. Run away, don’t walk.
I stayed at the hotel(which was so amazing!!!) and I ordered room service. My partner got the impossible burger which was alright, and I got the vegetarian Shepards pie. I love veg. Shepards pie so I was so excited! When I tell you it was literally inedible. It was so disappointing. :/ it even tasted like fish which is super weird bc it's vegetarian so that made me think something was rotten in the mix. I was hungry but oh well!
