Avis sur Darrow's New Orleans Grill Carson
Walked in and was instantly welcomed and felt like we were welcomed into the family! The owner stopped eating his breakfast to greet us and help us out. He gave us a sample of the gumbo, and man, I was sold. He told us about the different items on the menu, and then we ordered. My husband got a chicken sausage po’boy with fries, and I got the gumbo with jambalaya rice and cornbread. The food was delicious, and when my husband tasted the cornbread, he went back and bought more. After eating, we got the beignets and ate them there. I was not disappointed. Definitely will be coming back and bringing more people!
This spot is awesome.. great people and amazing food. One of the owners immediately greeted us when we entered and was very kind, helpful, and informative giving us recommendations and explaining some of the history of his family and the restaurant. They are proud of the food and have nothing to hide.. they give you samples so you don't have to guess if their gumbo is legit.. and it is the real deal... deep rich flavor, not watery, bold but smooth with just the right kick. The fried catfish, shrimp, and oysters were lightly breaded, perfectly cooked, and very fresh. The greens are a must try.. the word is flavor! They had a great vinegar tang. Nothing is bland or ordinary.. you can taste the love in the food and real family recipes. The atmosphere inside is really nice and they have all the cocktails and fun stuff to give you that authentic experience on top of the outstanding food. All the staff was very nice and they truly do treat you like family. This uniquely American cuisine is actually pretty easy to mess up.. often bland or soggy leaving you saying just OK.. but at Darrow's they deliver the goods and the food is done right with no shortcuts, freshly prepared, perfectly spiced, and we left planning how soon we could come back again to try more of the menu. The prices are very reasonable for the quality.. and the portions are generous. This is the real New Orleans right here in Carson.. doing it right and treating the customer right. Darrow's really does treat you like family.. if only anyone in my family could make food half this good! Highly recommended.
Amazing delicious food with a restaurant team that genuinely cares about your experience. Even if you're just driving through Carson, it is worth a slight detour to experience a meal here. Every bite was a masterpiece. I'm still dreaming about the corn bread. For dinner two people shared a poboy sandwich (tender brisket on pillow-y French bread), and combo meal with very tasty shrimp and catfish! Cocktails are fresh and delicious. We appreciated the sample. I didn't think of taking pictures until we got to the Beignets and coffee. Will definitely be going back to this place, maybe for their big Mardi Gras party! Easy free parking too.
My sister was actually the first one to visit Darrow’s, and after she told us about it, we knew we had to come try it for ourselves. From the moment we walked in, it felt like we were at home with family. Uncle Darrow greets everyone like you belong there, he remembers you, makes you feel seen, and creates such a warm, welcoming atmosphere that you instantly relax. And the food? Absolutely delicious. Every bite was full of flavor and clearly made with love. I highly, highly recommend this restaurant if you want great food and an experience that feels like community. We loved it so much, we’re already planning to come back next month to celebrate my birthday there!
If you haven't been to Darrow's you've never met a restaurant proprietor like Norwood there. He welcomes all immediately as family, and remembers every single soul who walks through his door. The food is delicious, the decor is immersive and beautiful, and the hospitality is unmatched anywhere else.
Our 1st time there...the owner Norwood greeted us, explained all the menu items, told us the history of Darrows, took pics with us, so very attentive, gave us samples before we ordered, treated us like family, food was ABSOLUTELY TO DIE FOR DELICIOUS!!!! Catfish was crisp, greens seasoned perfectly, red beans&rice fantastic....peach cobbler & cornbread is 2nd to NONE !!!! Beautiful decor inside and welcoming warm ambiance.....1st impressions are everything....and this place, the owner, chef, waitresses, food,& service get five stars ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ & A+ rating!
Loved that the Owner Greets you and give you a delightful background. Food is delicious not over seasoned or overcooked. Clean establishment with friendly service. They greet you as a family member. I'm eager to try more dishes and learn more history. Excellent greens and flavorful Po Boy. Temperature on my food was good, something very important to me. I like my food served hot.

Wonderful experience!! 1st time at the Carson location and the food was delicious 😋. The service was great everyone was welcoming and made you feel like you were visiting family. Shared the supper combo and it was plentiful for 2. The catfish and shrimp was so lightly bread and seasoned very well. The red beans and rice along with the greens and gotta have your cornbread was all so so good. We were not disappointed 😋😋😋😊. Finished off with some beignets to go, but Mr. Clark said, "eat them while they hot". Glad we listened cause we left with a smile 😃 on our faces and satisfied tummies..
This restaurant receives all 5's! My girls and I were greeted at the door by Norwood and he walked us to our table. He thoroughly explained their menu offering recommendations... Excellent customer service Norwood and the beautiful staff. Every single person greeted us with a smile. The food was delicious, the portions were more than enough and the cocktails were great!! I'll most definitely go back!!! We're family now. 5⭐️'s Darrow's New Orleans Grill... Meco 🫶🏾
Overall one of the best experiences I’ve had in a really long time. The service and friendliness of Norwood, unmatched. He was attentive and consistent. The restaurant was clean and there was plenty of parking and it was easy to find. The menu had so many options. I went with the combo supper with shrimp and catfish fried (you have the option to do fried or grilled) I had the greens (delicious) and the red beans with Jambalaya (a twofer) I also had the cornbread….OMG, it was delicious. While we were waiting they gave us a taste of the gumbo roux and I ordered a bowl of gumbo yaya which comes with jambalaya rice. I will say that I thoroughly enjoyed my visit and I can’t wait to return. If you are looking for a great place to eat, with amazing customer service, go see them at Darrows, I know I will be returning…..soon! AF: They also have cocktails. I had a rum punch and it was also delicious. Everything was great! Facts: *Parking is free in the structure just past the restaurant *You walk in and find a seat, review the menu & then you go to the register to place your order and pay. *Place your number on the table & your food will be brought over to you. *Enjoy your food and the company *You will walk in as a customer you will leave as a family member
Been coming here for a few months now. The food is on point each and every time. The greens are a standout and the fried catfish has so much flavor. The staff are very welcoming and attentive. Need to get there for breakfast and a crawfish boil next.
My first time here & within a few minutes it already felt like I was visiting family. The entire staff caters to you with warm friendly presence. I dined with my Sis & we were constantly checked on. As for the food expect a variety of authentic creole soul comforts. I had a plate with a combo of fried fish, shrimp& Oysters. The seafood is fried in full seasoned cornmeal. The texture may feel a little gritty if you're not used to it. The Jambalaya was not too memorable but the cornbread was Amazing! I wish I ordered some for later. I'll be back!
I just had to share a little something about Uncle Darrow’s, or as I know it, Darrow’s New Orleans Grill. I’ve known Norwood, the owner, for over two decades, and after all these years, walking back in felt like coming home. The moment I saw him, it was like no time had passed, and the warmth and welcome were just as genuine as ever. Now let’s talk about the real star of the show: the food. If you’re a fan of a good shrimp po’boy, you’re going to be in heaven. It’s packed with flavor, perfectly seasoned, and just the right kind of messy. Pair that with the oysters on the side and those Cajun fries dripping in gator sauce, and you’ve basically got a plate of pure joy. So if you’re looking for a place with real New Orleans soul and a taste that’ll have you coming back for more, Darrow’s is your spot. It’s all about the flavor and the feeling of being part of the family. You’ll walk out happy, full, and already planning your next visit.
Bought the chicken breast supper. Greens half jambalaya and red beans and rice with a corn bead. Everything was good, especially the jambalaya and the greens. Fresh basked corn bread 🔥🔥 the owner welcoming was awesome, and we are family now. This is the only issue that the portions size.
Great atmosphere, plenty of seating, free parking garage 1 minute walk. Food very flavorful and delicious. You definitely feel more like family and not a customer. The owner and other workers came to our table and had great conversations. They Made sure our family of 6, felt comfortable, at home and happy with the food. I would recommend trying anything on the menu. Seafood was fresh and not fishy at all. No pork in any of their food so great for those with food restrictions.
I rarely write a review the instant I walk in the door after trying a place but this restaurant deserves it. First off, parking looks non existent from the front but there's a big free parking garage behind the restaurant that you can enter off of Avalon or Carson. It's close to the freeway so it's easy to get to. The instant I walked in the door I felt like I was visiting family. All the staff here were genuinely welcoming and friendly and seemed excited I was a first time customer. They were giving me free samples of gumbo and let me try their Hurricane and Punch rum mixers before I ordered. They also explained everything on the menu. I went with the catfish plate with collard greens and "bean balaya" which is a half size portion of red beans and jambalaya so you get to try two sides and it only counts as one! Also a choice of French bread of cornbread. GET THE CORNBREAD. The sample of gumbo they gave me was mind blowing and that was just the broth. Best I've ever had so I will have to get the entree next time. The Rum Punch was so good and not only was it fruit punch flavored but it packed a punch. Was really strong drink. My plate came out smelling like heaven and looked just as good. Every single thing on my plate I was thinking "this is the best I've had". The cornbread was phenomenal. I could not believe how good the cornbread was. It was crunchy on the outside yet moist on the inside and tasted almost like cake. The catfish was also super crunchy yet retained it's moisture. It came with hotsauce, tartar sauce, and "gator sauce" which was a peppery ranch sauce dyed green but the fish was so good I barely used any condiments. All the side dishes were flavor packed and loved them all. When I was about done I ordered the fried chicken breast plate with tater salad and side salad for my wife as take-out. Even with the 25 minute drive home the chicken was still piping hot and crunchy. My wife let me take a bite and it was delicious. I like how they cut up the breast into strips so you got more of the wonderful tasting batter. The potato salad was heavy on the mustard and pickle flavors which was great. Salad had a tasty herbal vinaigrette. Truly loved this place and cannot wait to return. Next time I want to try the gumbo or the soft shell crab po'boy. Both maybe????
This place is awesome! I tried a few different plates and they were all good. There are a lot of Cajun and Creole options on their menu. The atmosphere is awesome - decorations, music, and energy. The staff was helpful and kind. Location is big and clean. They also have a full service bar. I will definitely come back when I'm in the area.
We were super excited by the greeting we received at this restaurant so hospitable the beautiful young lady greeted us with example of the rue from gumbo, For us being 1st timers, We ordered the fish plate with the bean balaya. The fish was on point and the fish was so moist and tasteful and melted in your mouth. My cousin had the gumbo and we all had different fish plates with different sides. We got to meet the owner he was super cool. WE LOVED THIS SPOT AND FOOD ❤️ Such GREAT HOSPITALITY ❤️❤️❤️
From the moment you step into Darrows you will feel a sense of community. The staff is extremely warm and personable. I immediately spotted the cornbread but up close and personal it's warm, moist and drizzled with syrup. The owner took my order and he was amazing; such a genuine spirit. I ordered the file gumbo, fried oysters and greens. The gumbo was filled with shrimp, crab legs and sausage. I would definitely recommend and will absolutely visit again.
This was my first time there for a Catholic school alumni.Meet and greet and fundraiser place clean and bright, the service is okay, The cashier was nice and helpful.I like the drink machine. You can get An abundant of different drinks and refill yourself. The waiter was okay, friendly enough. Just maybe a little overwhelmed. We were a big group he did get help bringing out the food, though. I ordered the fried catfish and fried shrimp combo 5 pieces of fish and 4 shrimp with greens, Cajun fries, and corn bread. My catfish was good, not fried too hard. My shrimp cooked a little hard. I don't like cornmeal batter that made them a little too crunchy. The greens were pretty good it was okay. The corn bread was too hard. I asked if the Cajun fries were spicy. She said not much, but for me, who doesn't really eat spicy. They were a bit too spicy for me, and they were cold. The gender-neutral bathroom was okay and clean when I'm in Carson. I will probably go back
had this catered to my work today and the catfish po boy was so disgusting and un-edible. It tasted like what I would imagine a dirty pond tastes like. since i had no other food, i tried to eat only the bread, it was almost saved by the grilled butter but the bread itself was chewy and stale. will never get food from here again.
