First of all, food was unbelievably delicious. You can easily tell it is fresh and made in house, the flavor was extremely authentic. Secondly, the service was undeniably the best I have received in Charlotte. Our server, Kat, was extremely polite and friendly. It felt as if we had her undying attention. Despite booking a reservation through open table on Valentine’s Day. I called to let them know I was running late and they were extremely accommodating. Upon arrival we were sat immediately on their beautiful patio with heaters and quite the view of downtown Piedmont. The skirt steak was indescribably tender and flavorful with hints of whichever fat was used to perfectly cook the steak. The roasted chicken tacos were extremely refreshing and had a slight twist of citrus that was not overwhelming at all. I cannot recommend Mal Pan enough and I will 100% undoubtedly be returning.

We made reservations for a party of 10. Our server Rob was awesome. I got the OG Margarita and the Mal Pan bowl. Everyone enjoyed their food. Free 90 minute parking was in the garage next to it on the 2nd floor. Noise level is not loud.

Loved the food! The portions are large and so delicious. The queso fundido is the best cheese dip we have had. There were 5 of us and we all thought the food was great. We enjoyed tacos, quesadillas, burritos, and the Mal Pan bowl. We highly recommend eating at Mal Pan!

I had one of the best brunch experiences at Mal Pan today! From start to finish, everything was spot on. Our server, Karen, was absolutely amazing—warm, attentive, and on top of every detail without ever feeling rushed. She made us feel right at home. I ordered the Chilaquiles Burrito and it was packed with flavor, hearty, and perfectly balanced. Truly one of those dishes you keep thinking about after the meal. So I save my other half for later... Big!!!!! shoutout also to Andre, the manager, who checked in on us to make sure everything was perfect. That extra touch of hospitality really set the tone. If you’re looking for a brunch spot that hits all the marks—great food, welcoming service, and a team that genuinely cares—Mal Pan is the place. Definitely coming back!

Sat on the patio for lunch. Quick service and delicious food. Tacos were authentic and fresh. Pricier for lunch, but good food. Server was very kind and accommodating to our children. The shrimp taco was my favorite. The kids steak quesadilla was well loved. Surf burrito was great as well.

The price made me flinch for a sec when ordering but the food more than deserves the cost. The flavor profile is insane! Going to make sure I stop whenever back in the city.

I stumbled into this restaurant by accident! I went to get a coffee next door and bumped into this place. Best Mexican food in Charlotte!

I loved the food! It was sooo delicious. I ordered the chicken taquitos as a starter. I loved it. The flavor was so good. I wish I ordered more. I also ordered the Jardín tacos which is the veggie tacos. Those were also super good. They’re really good with bringing a lot of flavor to their food. I also appreciate gluten free options, I don’t digest gluten well so this always a plus. My server was super nice and attentive!!

Stopped in for dinner on Saturday evening. Called upon arrival and was told the wait would be about 15-20 minutes. Once we arrived, we waited a little less than 10 mins. I hadn’t been here in at least 2 years. Food and service were both great! It was my first getting a drink. I tried the rum punch, and this had to be one of the BEST rum punches I’ve ever tasted. I could go back there for this drink alone. Our waiter was very friendly, can’t remember his name though. 🙂 It was the first time I’ve eaten here for dinner. Cute little chill spot with a vibe!

Chips, salsa, guac, and shrimp bowl were good, but the margaritas were the real standout. Flavorful, and not too sweet. Wish I got a photo! They have a decent amount of outdoor seating as well. Courteous and attentive staff.

The freshest Mexican food I’ve ever had! The Chips & Queso starter followed by the Surf & Turf Burrito make the perfect meal. Their tortillas are clearly hand-made in-house and are like nothing I’ve ever tasted before. The brunch is stellar! Do expect smaller portions if you visit, but the flavor makes up for it.

I don't hear a lot about this spot, but I'm so glad my husband and I decided to get takeout from here. We shared: - Torta de Cochinita Pibil - Surf & Turf Burrito Both were fantastic. Between the two, the burrito was my favorite, but you can't go wrong with either. The bread on the torta got slightly soggy which is to be expected with takeout, but the sandwich was still so good. I'm impressed by any sandwich that holds up to takeout. I would love to go back here and dine in to get the full experience. There were plenty of other menu items I wanted to try.

First time here and my husband & I where so happy with the service and food!!! We took our puppy with us and they where so polite. As soon as we got there our server brought out some water for our pup. We got the steak tacos and the surf and turf burrito. Absolutely delicious food and we will definitely be coming back for more!!! 10/10 recommend!

Believe all the hype on this one, it's been on my list to try and Mal Pan does not disappoint. First, I have to say the tortillas house-made are so fresh and delicious! The Cameron Royal taco was fantastic and everything on it blended just perfectly. It was by far my favorite thing! The queso, steak taco and esquites were all flavorful, plated beautifully and delicious. I really liked the vibe from the playful floral wallpaper to the natural elements. You could feel that Mal Pan was really putting their heart into everything they do and it shows.

We stopped by for lunch. The staff was exceptionally attentive. The food was delicious. We ordered the guacamole, chips and salsa. The chips were warm and paired deliciously with the guacamole. As a main I ordered one veggie taco (Jardín) and it came with a choice of one side. I had the beans, and both the taco and beans we so flavorful and tasted fresh. My husband had the nooner burrito and he loved it. He’s even gone back again! Highly recommend if you like that Southern California style Mexican food that I miss sine leaving the west coast.

I love how this little place can deliver such a great food! The moment I saw the melted cheese with chorizo all bubbling and super hot. I was sold!! We were there on a Sunday for brunch, the tacos with eggs were perfect, one was enough for me but I ate almost the entire serving of melted cheese with chorizo 🙈 and had a mimosa. The guacamole, so yummmmmmy!! Homemade tortillas, sooo good!! the refried black beans had a very good flavor too. The place was clean and another plus is the parking right next to it! Price is very reasonable so that was another plus❤️.

We loved going here… ate some amazing food. A little expensive but good quantity for the price. Service is a little slow but nothing that you cannot tolerate. Tres Leches was amazing. Overall would visit again.

I consider myself a taco-ficionado and the Camaron Royal was an excellent taco. I've never had beer-battered shrimp before and it was fantastic. Looking forward to coming back and trying something new. Lunch service was very quick. The outside patio was great.

Mal Pan has a good blend of ambiance and tasty food. Like many of the restaurants in Mexico, Mal Pan has half the walls that roll up so you have nice fresh open air blowing through the restaurant and open view to the sidewalk. It was very comfortable when we were there in April. The menu isn't huge, but the food is excellent. They have 6 or 7 different types of tacos, 3 different enchiladas and burrito's, and a few other things. The salsa was really good. I liked the Tres Leche dessert as well. I really liked the Cochinita Pibil taco, steak taco and Cheese Enchiladas with chicken. They have outdoor seating as well. Free parking in the attached garage.

Cozy, pleasant and good food. Super nice neighborhood bar and hangout place. It’s my second time coming here while on business in Charlotte. Love the steak tacos.

This was simply a great meal from all aspects. I had the Cali Burrito. When I asked the waiters thoughts his reply very kindly was "We did get voted best burrito in NC" but it's also his favorite. It was a buttery, savory, crispy piece of heaven... salsa...amazing and specialty drinks looked fun. Go here..!

We moved here from Austin , Texas and desperately missed good Mexican and Tex Mex food , then we discovered this amazing place . The food was delicious, the service was wonderful and the ambiance was awesome on the outdoor covered patio .

LOVED the food and drink options we got. I really appreciate that they offered a variety of mocktails. We shared the chips and salsa and had the mal pan bowl and shrimp burrito. I enjoyed the virgin margarita and a friend enjoyed the regular. Both were delicious

My boyfriend and I come here every chance we get. The food is incredible, but most importantly the staff is so kind. Everyone is so welcoming and the atmosphere is so good. I love the lighting. The margaritas are incredible. I love their enchiladas and my boyfriend loves their tortas. The queso is also top tier quality. Their salsas are all made in house and they are delicious! I can’t recommend this place enough! We love Mal Pan!

One of my favorite places for brunch on the weekends, is never too busy I wonder why if the food is amazing. I guess is not the typical American brunch, so if you want good food and dont want to wait for 2 hrs give them a try. Everything we have try is really delicious.

Kat was amazing. I have a gluten and dairy allergy and she made me feel so welcome. First lunch with my mom in a while. Beautiful spot great food.

Great experience here, this place is the real deal to grab some proper Mexican food. I was pleasantly surprised by how fresh and authentic the flavors were. From service to food authenticity, the team here really goes the extra mile. My friend and I brought our dogs and it was nice to see they were more than welcome on the covered patio. I’ll be back.

My husband and I came here for the first time on date night. The food (forgive my “lingo”) absolutely SLAPS. Y’all, we shared 4 appetizers and everything was truly delicious. Cocktails were enjoyable and our server poured me a half glass of wine even though it’s not on the menu as a size option. The food was truly the star of the show. Atmosphere is fine, the inside is rather dark. But service was great. Definitely a new spot on our rotation!

Stopped by for a coffee and looked over and saw Mal-Pan. I was like , let’s try it. And man was I glad we did. We enjoyed everything. Brunch, appetizers, tacos, cocktails!!! And Robert took really good care of us. He helped make a great first impression! Gracias!!

One of the best Latin spots in Charlotte, hands down. The food is great and flavorful, drinks are creative, strong, and delicious, and the service is phenomenal. Everytime I visited (which was frequent) bartenders/hostesses remembered me and were sooo kind. Shoutout to Alex, Duckie, Rob, and Jamie(I’m pretty sure that’s his name :/) for being hardworking, kind, friendly, and great at their jobs :)

Great spot and delicious food! The only thing that’s holding me back on a 5 Star is the music was a little too loud. Very hard to hear the waitress and carry a conversation with my husband.

The food was super delicious. It was just a little uncomfortable we had to sit outside it was a little chilly we saw some tables empty inside but the overall food was amazing the cheese dip is smaller than what it appears on the pictures. But overall we loved and will be back with reservation, to make sure we can have full experience.

Visited Thursday right as they opened (11 am). I was greeted/seated right away. People were gradually flowing in - by 12 the restaurant was nearly full. I would recommend calling/making a reservation for evening dining. The decor/ambiance was super cute!!! I ordered: $43.30 - Guacamole, Salsa and Chips - $11.00 (they do not offer complimentary chips and salsa) Cucumber Jalapeno Margarita - $14.00 California Burrito - $15.00 The California Burrio had glowing reviews, so I had to give it a try. The steak was delicious - however I wasn't a fan of the fries in the burrito. The cucumber jalapeno margarita had the refreshing taste from the cucumber then a heavy kick from the jalapeno! It was good - just kept my water handy!! All-in-all ... I enjoyed my meal. I plan to come back and try different menu items. A parking garage is available - however there is a time limit.

Delicious food and very filling. Cute establishment and they have brunch items!! The surf & turf burrito was bomb! Their chips and salsas also good but not complimentary and they give you a small portion of salsa but a lot of chips. This isn’t a typical taqueria so don’t plan on getting a lot of food at a cheap price. Yes this is mexican food but Remember this is a S. Park business. Our waitress, KAYLA was a little bit short and inpatient however. She rushed us to order and I was shocked to see she had added a large gratuity tip to my check for a party of 3. I didn't notice it initially and I then tipped an additional 15%. So completely my fault for missing it but no way the waitress thought she deserved a 35% tip. Common sense would say this is an error or an indication to confirm we weren't aware of the large pity tip she conveniently decided to add without telling me. Thankfully since I made a reservation through open door I was able to call the next business day and speak to Andre who looked up my check by the reservation, apologized and reversed the gratuity charges. They have outdoor seating and plenty of parking in the adjacent deck.

Went here for dinner, found an hour parking spot. Ordered chips with queso, it was great. Tacos were filling and flavourful, right amount of spicy. Our Mexican friend found the food to be authentic. Recommend the burritos and tortas too.

Taco shells best in town. The taco shells did not overpower the content. The chicken was real meat in the chicken taco. And plentiful. Sweet potato was tasty and also well stuffed. Thought it had a nice flavor. The sauces had some good spice and flavor. Downside was that the street corn was very watery and salty. And the guac and chips and salsa Although they say it’s homemade still tasted like it was out of the bag. Tortillas were bagged and warmed up at best. The drinks were good and definitely seemed like housemade: Staff was great and super friendly and very attentive. Like the ambience and outdoor dining. Service was great, hope it makes it

Beautiful presentation on Baja taqueria style tacos. Flavors are also popping too. Place is quaint and cozy with a few tables inside. There is a bar area and also a nice outdoor seating area that is covered. Wraps are made in-house so be sure to give them a try. They have a full bar and can mix-up some nice drinks. There's a parking garage next door so easy access to the restaurant even if it's raining. Put them on your list of spots to check out.

Mal Pan has a great menu full of authentic Mexican cuisine. The Tacos offer a good variety of flavors and ingredients. The Pazole is really good and a great way to start a meal. The lighting is pretty dim, which creates a more laid-back atmosphere. There is free parking in the adjacent parking garage. They also have a full service bar. It's a little pricey.

This restaurant has excellent food. I went with a friend yesterday. I had the pork Taco and Tommy's Margarita. The margarita was flavorful and had pink Himalayan salt on the side, a nice touch. The Taco was delicious. I would recommend getting 2, I only got one and they are small. I also had the Tres Leches which was different than the usual, lots of cinnamon flavor, very good! The only reason I did not give this place 5 stars is because the tea my friend had was weak and the fact they only had 1 dessert. The service was very good also. I recommend this restaurant!

Overall, it was a good experience. Our waiter was a little bit too attentive, but very nice. The food was good and the atmosphere was OK. Overall, I think it’s a little highly priced, but it was good quality food. I recommend.

I’m from Mérida, Yucatán and Mal Pan reminds me of a typical upscale cantina in Mérida Centro. I’m very grateful to whoever took the valiant step and introduced yucatecan cuisine to Charlotte. Michelada cubana, panuchos, cochinita tacos. That’s my personal order. The burritos are also top-notch. The cochinita needs a little more refining but I’m sure it’ll get there. This place reminds me of home.

Pleasantly surprised!! Cool vibe and great food & drinks. Slightly on the more expensive side and $$ vs. $ that was seen online so be prepared to pay a little more. Great service and convenient parking in the free parking garage in southpark! Highly recommended!

I really wanted to like this place but the food was just OK. Not super special. My boyfriend’s food came out kinda cold. But the atmosphere is nice and the staff is nice. Very beautifully decorated.

wonderful food, but service sucks. I have dined in and also ordered a to go. Dine-ins have longer wait times 15 mins can turn to 30 without a note. And to go is just they will tell you will be ready in 15 mins. you get to the restaurant to pick it up and just wait for another 30 mins to get your food handed over. Won’t be back here just to avoid this unpleasant experience of waiting times.

First, I want to make sure that it is well understood that the service and the people who work here are very very very nice. The service was great. No complaints with the people whatsoever. However, let’s talk about the food. We started with the chicken taquitos. They were hard to eat. The tortilla that is being used is too thick so instead of being kind of a light and crispy experience, it’s heavy, thick and chewy. The chicken inside the taquitos is also extremely tough. So obviously, it’s roasted outside of the taquito, and most likely a little overdone to begin with, then you combine that with frying it and re-cooking it in the taquito, and you end up with chicken that’s hard to eat. This was a one out of five. Then, I got a shrimp taco that had fried leeks on it, and the leeks overpowered the flavor of everything else. Not a good combination. The flavor of the breading on the shrimp was just weird, way too much slaw, just not a good taco. I didn’t even bother trying the roasted chicken taco, because I was just grossed out by the shrimp one. And to be honest, $15 for two tacos and white rice with black bean paste is expensive. And I believe it was $12 for two taquitos cut into four pieces. Again, expensive. The entire thing was expensive because the food wasn’t good. Five dollars is too much to pay for something that is gross.Got a mocktail that tasted like aloe juice, except it didn’t have any aloe juice in it. Was just gross. my daughter got the shrimp taco and she didn’t really like it, and she got a steak taco that she felt was OK. The steak was well cooked, but there was too much cheese and not a lot of flavor. In general, this is definitely not authentic Mexican. I wouldn’t even call it white washed. I would call it gross. i’m not trying to be harsh, but I don’t like spending $85 on food that I can’t even eat because it’s disgusting. I am not sure how they get a 4.4, but that just goes to show that reviews cannot always be relied on- including this one. Feel free to go there and try it for yourself. For us, however, we will not be back.

J
Julie Richardson

I am once again reminded that Charlotteans have never had authentic tacos. Overstuffed with cheese to the point of being slop. Drinks were overly sweet and prices very high for the ambiance and food. Inside was extremely hot with little air conditioning. Only bright spot is the kind servers.

M
Mike Bates

Sadly Mal Pan has gone downhill. This has been our favorite place to eat since we first visited four years ago and moved here three years ago. The menu has changed, the quality has diminished. We will not be going back as the last two visits were subpar. New ownership, cost cutting measures, what is the reason? They got rid of the delicious enchilada sauce that was dairy free. The chicken tacos last night were overfilled mayonnaise slaw and a combination of leftover chicken pieces. The corn tortillas no longer seem house-made as they are dried out. Meals are saturated in oil. They now serve flour tortillas instead of corn. The flour tortilla is too large for the limited filling provided.
