Great place for tacos and drinks. We got the fish taco and pollo tinga, with side of potatoes and refried beans. Food was very nice and filling. We also got the mojito and hibiscus spritz. They gave us a table even without reservations. Highly recommend!
Always a great experience here! My friend and I came on Halloween around 5:30pm with no reservation and got seated right away. We had the carne asada tacos and salsa flight, both were delicious and generous in portions. The tacos had plenty of meat and the extra onions I asked for. Our server was super attentive, and we had a great time, sipping on our drinks and taking shots while watching all the people in their costumes out on the street from our window seat. The atmosphere was fun and lively for Halloween. We ended up staying for about four hours just enjoying the food, drinks, and atmosphere. Highly recommend!
This place is actually a 10/10. All 3 dishes were so delicious that it stopped me in my tracks reveling in the flavors, but the chicken and churro waffles were the winner of this absolutely delightful brunch! I’d also recommend the guacamole (which was garnished with pomegranate seeds), the el sanguichon, and the birria con consome.
the food here was amazing. we loved everything that we ordered, especially the guava kiwi ceviche and mejillones la luna. our server was nice, and the food came out pretty fast. while the mussels were a tad greasy underneath, i still loved the flavor. great for sharing. we even had leftovers for the next day
First time going to this place and it was delicious. We had two appetizers, tacos, and the portions were shareable. The food was served hot and the guacamole tasted fresh. Fun music and it was not too loud to where you couldn’t have a conversation. Looking forward to going back again soon.
Took the tortilla making class (which is held upstairs) and it was really fun! You learn the basics of tortilla making, get to make tortillas with pre-made masa, and make tacos with their taco bar ingredients.
Delicious food with fast service. Options if you’re gluten free as well! Absolutely devoured the pomegranate guacamole. Also plenty of non-alcoholic drinks like the hibiscus spritz.
We arrived when the restaurant first opened for dinner. The service was fast and the food was delicious. I definitely would come back.
You can get lost in a day just absorbing the street art in Pilsen. By far the most saturated streetscape w a wide variety of subject matter and styles of street murals once included a work by the world famous ROA of Belgium. Sadly someone / group painted over the opossum. Anyway, Luna is the bomb
Great food and cute vibe. You do have to get the waiter’s attention though so took a bit of time to get our order taken.
It's no secret that Chicago's Pilsen neighborhood is home to some of the city's best Mexican restaurants and La Luna has taken its place. I came here during the Christmas holiday and the restaurant looked very festive. The food was unique, beautifully presented and absolutely delicious. This restaurant has quickly taken a spot as one of my favorites in all of Chicago.
I got quesabirria, mango ceviche, queso fundido. The food was so good but the service was bad. Took so long to get attended to. At least the food was good though.
La Luna has become one of our go-to spots in Pilsen. Lately, we just head straight for the bar, no waiting and the staff always treats us like regulars. Super friendly and laid-back. The menu’s full of Mexican comfort food I grew up with. I always go for the chicken flautas, and honestly, they’re some of the best I’ve had. Four crispy rolled tortillas stuffed with flavorful shredded chicken. The toppings take it up a notch, creamy avocado aioli, a smoky chipotle kick, salsa verde, crema, and a sprinkle of cotija for that salty bite. Everything just works together. The vibe is relaxed but still lively, not too loud, not too quiet. Service is always quick and easy, and everyone’s super chill. La Luna is definitely worth checking out if you're in the neighborhood.
Solid. The place is a vibe, the food is creative and traditional. Salsas are tasty. One of the best elotes I’ve had in my life. All in all worth a stop!
This place has blown my mind. A fun and welcoming atmosphere as soon as you arrive. I came here with a group of friends. My waitress was splendid and so nice. She recommended the best dishes, even told us about happy hours. The food was delicious and the Margaritas so good. It was well worth it.
My husband and I love stopping by La Luna for tasty tacos and margaritas, so we were delighted when we found out there is an upstairs space for events! We hosted our wedding rehearsal dinner at La Luna last weekend, and our guests have not stopped raving about the delicious food and fun atmosphere. The event space is great for a sit down dinner, and we were able to rent some additional cocktail tables for guests to chat and mingle throughout the dinner. Iliana was so easy to work with, and quick to answer any and all of our questions! La Luna is a great place to host a fun, unique event with the tastiest food!!
So glad we discovered this place. The food was amazing and service to match! Especially loved those Flautas!!
Good flavors, with a light touch of spice. Cocktails were well balanced.
As a visitor from out of town, this restaurant was good!! I loved quesabirra! So filling and savory! Also, it was brunch time— so the mimosas went well with everything. Highly recommend this place to anyone!
Every was wonderful The food was great. The atmosphere is nice and peaceful. A very chill vibe. Our waitress was very, very kind. The food was absolutely delicious.
The food is delicious - recommend the pork belly tacos and the seasonal drinks. Try to sit at the back so the cold air from the door opening doesn't get you
Upbeat and bright atmosphere to enjoy tasty and filling tacos. A great option to add to our rotation of restaurants in Pilsen.
Outstanding brunch... The food was delicious I had the eggs Benedict with cochinita pibil and it was the best. Got a side of beans. Coffee her was also great. The service was a bit on the slow side and they were somewhat disorganized and inattentive but the food was great. There is seating on a patio however we sat inside. The place itself had a rough decor with super high ceilings and lots of light.
it’s really nice in here, food was banging, drinks heavy, fast delivery, music is also pretty good
This place is a must to visit :) 10/10 the food & drinks are always great , I highly recommend this restaurant, the food is always amazing and the service is always great. There is always someone by the door to greet you and everytime i have gone they always make you feel welcome! The staff are always nice friendly, the manager Abel is always attentive and Bryan was fantastic. I always look forward to come here!
Enjoyed our dinner here! The food was spectacular and we stuck with several appetizers and a shareable plate. Margs were so good, we did one strawberry and one spicy lime. We did make a reservation and I think that we wouldn't have gotten a spot otherwise even on a Wednesday night. The inside is beautiful, didn't love love sitting very close to another table of people just had to focus in on our conversation a little more purposefully! Great staff. Very positive energy here.
Great Place for modern fun Mexican food... Very tasty and different Not your usual Mexican restaurant... Good job...
Very quaint restaurant. Nice variety of food, including some seasonal items.
My partner and I visited La Luna in Pilsen over the weekend, and it was such a fun and vibrant experience! The atmosphere was lively, with great music that set the perfect mood. We were seated right away, and from start to finish, everything was amazing. We kicked things off with the salsa flight, which came with mango salsa, salsa verde, and salsa picante—a perfect way to start our meal! I ordered the churro waffle and chicken, and wow—it was delicious! The crispy chicken, fluffy waffle, and the mix of buffalo sauce and maple syrup created the perfect sweet and spicy balance. My partner had the quesabirria tacos, and the flavors were everything—so rich and satisfying. The menu was simple yet well-curated, and the service was top-notch. Our server was incredibly attentive, and our bottle of water was always replenished without even asking. If you’re in Pilsen, La Luna is a must-visit! Highly recommended, and we’ll definitely be back!
Good seating for parties of 2. Food was delicious and generously portioned, Cocktails were creative and tasty and the service was excellent. We will return! Heads-up, it is a bit of a loud dinner setting, so keep that in mind for conversation. Most importantly, Alejandro was great!
Some of the best tacos I've ever eaten. My wife and I found toys place by happy little accident; what a great experience. The food and atmosphere were amazing, the server was very helpful. THE GUAC AND CHIPS!!!!! Also they make a really good old fashioned.
This place is fantastic. Everything you want it to be and nothing you don’t. Staff is welcoming and friendly. The food is so, so flavorful. Came for restaurant week and had the elote, quesabirria, and flan. The quesabirria came with a consome soup that was outstanding on this cold winter day. I can’t wait to come back here. In a great neighborhood, too.
We went here before a show at Thalia Hall. The guacamole was served in a good and unique way, and a large portion. My daughter had the quesobirria and said it was delicious. I had the chicken mole that was excellent, and they did not skimp on the mole sauce. My wife has tortilla soup that was very tasty. Nice beer selection and my wife really liked her mezcal cocktail. Service was quick and great.
Great experience my only push back was the fee for using a card without offering option for cash payments and also including tip but asking for an additional tip. I don’t understand. The server did not listening directly to my order, gave me more food than I ordered. Other than that everything was ok and food was good.
The atmosphere was great! Music w/different genres and later in the night they dim the lights. Food service was very fast with no longer than 10 minutes after ordering for our food. I do wish they gave free chips and salsa ($9) like other Mexican restaurants in the area. Space is limited as not enough room for all the tables and chairs, you will not be able to push chair out to go to bathroom without tapping the other guest behind you or side of you easily but was doable. Pricing wise, 5$ per taco which was alittle bigger than standard size but without the flavor in the meat I would like for carne asada. Overall, enjoyed our time.
Pretty solid spot! Service was fairly quick and friendly, the birria tacos were really good but the carne asada was incredibly dry.
This was a fun spot to go to with my friend! There’s fun vibes, bold colors, and a nice mix of indoor/outdoor seating with wide open windows that let in a breeze. The drinks are solid, and the Piña Mango Ceviche was so yummy! Sweet, tangy, fresh, with big chunks of shrimp and avocado. Would 100% come back for that dish! My friend got al pastor and asada tacos 🌮 also a hit! They came with free chips and both verde and rojo salsas (note: the red one’s spicier). The chips weren’t the crunchiest, but who’s complaining when they’re free? Music and ambiance were on point. Check it out!
Great Mexican food with an awesome selection of classic items with their own Luna twist! The interior design and ambience is great for a couple’s lunch or dinner date. The food comes out fast and the servers are quick on their feet, the one caveat is that the tip system kinda irked me… pre-selecting 25% tip only makes things awkward when I have to stare at the screen for far too long. We ordered the guacamole and chips (best dish personally, ordered this three times as the pomegranate elevates the guacamole so well), chilaquiles with steak, and tortilla soup. We also ordered the margaritas during Happy Hour another night, very worth it! Be sure to order the drinks with guacamole!!!
Visited today , walked in when they opened at noon. We were greeted by a hostess. She probably could've been a bit more receptive. No big deal though. The menu has a brunch menu and a dinner menu. The brunch menu doesn't have too many options. The dinner some dishes aren't available till 330. So that was a bit of a bummer as well. For starters we got the guacamole and chips. It was really good and fresh. I got the tacos gobernador. Shrimp tacos with peppers and cheese on a blue corn tortillas. With a Chipotle aioli , that was 🔥. My girl got the gaurache Lox. It was smoked salmon on a haurache with requeson and capers and avacado. Waitress told us it was the first day on the menu. She said it was good , ingredients were nice and fresh. We got no drinks. Overall I give it like a 4.2.
Great food, cocktails and service. I rated it 4 stars because it didn’t knock our socks off. We liked the margaritas, elote, queso and birria tacos best, but we wouldn’t order the torta again. We’ll be back for sure!
The location is lovely and such great service. Everything, food wise, was going extremely well. Until I had the mussels. They smelled extremely fishy and did not taste right. After one I immediately set them aside. However, the food I had try beforehand was really good. Like the fish taco, tetelas, & quesabirrias.
Tldr: Nice place, good drinks, food was good but not amazing. Very nice place. Seating is a bit limited at about 100 seats so peak times might have a bit of a wait. I went at 7 on Friday with one other party and was able to be seated immediately though. The drinks are good, specializing intequila but not limited to that. I had a gin & pear cocktail that was tasty, had an appropriate amount of alcohol and was well made. My partner's drink was a tequila and tropical grapefruit drink that she enjoyed. We shared paella for dinner. It was dry and the huge prawns were served with head and she'll. Having to shell them with my fingers was messy and took me out of the enjoyment of the meal. It was well seasoned and had that nice crisp on the bottom. It was tasty and well seasoned. Walked by the place later around midnight and it had more of a club feel, very busy with lots of standing room only. All in all, worth checking out but not a must-see
The food and staff are excellent but inside the restaurant was extremely hot, no fans absolutely no air flow. If you go and are seated inside wear loose clothing. It was so incredibly hot it was tough to enjoy the meal. The fish tacos are bomb as hell. I would go again but would specifically ask to sit outside.
Been here a few times and the food is always amazing. However, my last two visits have been frustrating due to the check-in process. On my most recent visit, I was told there was no seating available. When I checked OpenTable, the next available reservation was 20 minutes later, which I showed to the host. Instead of simply checking us in, I was required to make the reservation online, even though we were already there and willing to wait. This was especially frustrating given the $10 per person no-show fee ($40 total), as it was clear we weren’t leaving. After waiting the 20 minutes, we were seated at the same open table that had been available the entire time. The food is great, but the front-of-house experience could definitely be smoother and more accommodating.
Got the salsa combination plate, really incredible, complex and inventive flavors in the salsas. Got the chicken flautas which were excellent. Langostina was good but far too much oil. A restaurant with great flavors that is just a little refinement away from being truly excellent.
La Luna was cute but tiny. Tables are so close it felt like I was third wheeling other people’s convos. Music wasn’t too loud thankfully, but it was all Puerto Rican music, which was kinda random for a Mexican spot lol. Food slapped though. Queso fundido was a great starter. My mom was obsessed with the quesabirria.. I thought it needed more cheese but still solid. The flautas were the best flautas I’ve ever had. Coconut tres leches was a highlight, highly recommend that for dessert. Parking was a nightmare so definitely get there with time.
The food was good, not the best but definitely good! We had the quesabirria and tacos. I also had the empanada which was cold in the middle. The service was subpar — the host first asked if we had a reservation which I thought was a bit odd considering there were plenty of available tables and it was not a busy hour. Also, the waiter seemed like he could truly not care less about our table (table of 2). Probably won’t go back but the food was decent. Also, the restaurant is tiny on the inside, just an FYI.
The food definitely makes up for the service. Everything I ordered was delicious, and the atmosphere was enjoyable it’s a place I’d consider coming back to for the food alone. That said, the service could use some improvement. I’m not sure if they were short-staffed, but it looked like there were plenty of employees working. I was only welcomed by the host, who was kind enough to help me find a seat at the bar. Once I sat down, though, no one greeted me or offered to take my order. I eventually had to speak up myself, and even then, the person I asked passed the task to someone else. Despite that, I stayed and enjoyed my meal. No one checked in on me the entire time the only person who noticed I hadn’t received a drink or food yet was a kind man dressed as Cepillín, who kindly brought me some water. Overall, great food and a nice atmosphere, but the service experience didn’t match the quality of the meal.
We came here mid day on a Saturday and it was busy but we got a table without waiting. It was very loud in here but they allow kids. I got the chicken flautas which were good but the chicken on the inside was a little too crunchy and made it had to eat. We also got guacamole and it had pomegranate seeds which were so good in it. Overall it was good but not great. I also got a michelada and have had many in my life this one was good..
The service was awful, it was like the waitress was not a a happy camper today, and had an attitude, and she thought we didn’t notice. Yes, they are hidden fees, DO CHECK YOUR BILL before you pay, and they add automatically a %25 for the tip!!! The presentation of the food was good, but the flavors….. it was not the Mexican flavor that you will expect from a restaurant in this area. If you want chips there is charge, if you want a spicy sals, there is a charge, and sour waitress, Sushi, got annoyed when we ask for salt and pepper… A very nice place but the service and the food could be better! The boy who clear the table and the hostess were nice and smile genuinely!!
