Really tasty food. Kind staff. Reasonable price. We've had Carmelita's twice in the same week before. And we will certainly be back for more.
So damn good, I keep ordering thru door dash and the pupusas are everything. Seriously try the loroca. Also the dough is gluten free. Seriously try it
Staff and food is the best in town. The green sauce is excellent!!
Pretty awesome little place, best pupusas I've had, I really hope this place stays longer than the previous businesses that have occupied this building.
The Aguas frescas are so amazing! And you know they’re made out of scratch when there’s pieces of fruit inside it too!😋 I prefer it that way instead of just out of powder. The pupusas are the best I’ve had! My fav is the revuelta and chicken pupusa. Try a pastelito while you’re there or some platano frito! This place has been crazy busy since they first opened and I can see why! They definitely earned these 5 stars 🤩
I'm obsessed with this place. The Calabaza pupusa is my favorite flavor. But I just love the little pastelitos. Every time I'm in Cleburne I stop and pick some up. Oh and the plantains my other favorite. Just yummy. I hope yall go support this little local business!
I LOVE pupusas after marrying my Salvadoran wife and discovering them. It’s nice having a pupusaria right down the street and the food is always delicious.
For a first timer and not knowing what to choose the waitress was so kind and helpful she explained and answered all our questions but not even that after we took the first bite we were speechless it was wonderful the food was amazing but our all time fav today was the spinach, cheese and jalapeño pupusa we definitely recommend y’all to try that. Can’t wait to go again and try all the good things they have on their menu. Thank yall for all yalls hard work we loved it!
👍 Thumbs up! Traveling through and searched for a taqueria place and came upon Carmelita's Pupuseria..definately switched it up😊! But their pupusas are delicious!! And we also had some quesobirria tacos. We will be stopping by again for sure!
Love this Food!! So delicious, extremely homemade. The soup is to die for. Will be back soon. Staff is wonderful!! Normally don't rave but definitely had to on this place!!
I have eaten here at least 5 times in the last few weeks and EVERY time I have forgotten to take photos because I was DYING to dig in! Caution: it is very likely that you will burn your tongue and fingers trying to get to the next bite due to these amazingly fresh and delicious papusas. I had a cheese and 2 spinach/jalapeño/cheese papusas for lunch today. In the past I’ve also had their Caldo as well. Every time I visit the food is fresh and just absolutely delicious! I will be back with friends! Y’all don’t miss this hidden gem! 💎 💎 💎
The best restaurant ever I would eat here every single day. Service is amazing
Fresh Delicious Authentic Pupusas! I highly recommend this place. The people here are humble, kind folk. Great customer service. The food is amazing and it's something different and much needed in lil Cleburne. They have a variety of choices as well, so again I highly recommend yall give this place a try! (Personal favorite are revueltas pupusas)
They hosted Santa and gave gifts for children.
We sampled a good chunk of the menu. The flavors are on point the horcata was amazing. I highly recommend this spot for a good bite to eat.
OMG!!! Cleburne definitely needs a Carmelita’s II. This place is definitely worth the time and $$. Y’all were so welcoming and kind to us. The food is the very best!!! Fresh and Hot made to order. Congratulations!!! and May God bless y’all with many years to come. Will definitely be back again and again...😊😊
Delicious tacos, it’s a small place, not fancy at all but honest and very friendly staff. Prices are great
Carmelitas is delicious and worth the wait!! It’s as authentic as you will get to Salvadoran food, as the Owner is from the beautiful country. There is a great variety and we will definitely be back!!
Breakfast was delicious. The pupusas are amazing. It's definitely a place to visit and eat something delicious and different
I love the pupusas here! I always the the spinach jalapeno mixed with chicken and it's amazing. They also have birria tacos and aguas frescas.
Hands down best menudo in town. Have yet to not like anything they offer here the food is always amazing 😻. It’s me and my wife go to place for food always
Food is great. Love the Birra tacos. Little slow sometimes but worth the wait!
I ABSOLUTELY LOVE the Birria tacos here! The best I've EVER had! 🔥
Best Carne Asada or Brisket burritos in TX. I almost forgot the Birria Tacos... So good. My only problem with this place is that I'm addicted.
The food here is amazing. For $10 you can get a feast. Support this local business it needs to be a keeper.
I ordered door dash from here for the first time. It was so good! Will be ordering again!
Everything we’ve tried here is so tasty! Favs are barbacoa torta, pollo guisado, chicken quesadilla, any of the tamales, postesitillo.
Our favorite place to get breakfast burritos. We stop as often as we can, food always tastes delicious, and the ladies at the window are always very friendly.
Far exceeded my expectations! In Cleburne for business and was not wanting to go out. Saw the strong reviews and decided to order. The Birria Taco Plate was outstanding! The tacos were delicious and the salsa was on point! Added beans and rice to the plate and it was worth every cent, they were equally delicious! Native Texan and been eating this type of food my whole life and this was as good as I could ask for. What a gem in Cleburne Texas! I will eat here every time I return to Cleburne, keep crushing it!!
I'm a sucker for breakfast burritos and barbacoa, the birria tacos here are amazing, chorizo and egg with cheese burritos are amazing the best one I have tried yet I love the green sauce it has really good heat I can't get enough.. really good food here!
Im not one to leave reviews, but this place deserves a good one. I want to preface this by saying I only tried their pupusas. I have only had pupusas one other time, from a friends mom who grew up in El Salvador and spent most of her time there. In comparison, these blew my expectations out of the water. Incredibly crispy on the outside, soft and flavorful on the inside, with AMAZING slaw and salsas. The meat inside was tender and almost melted in your mouth. I got pork and cheese, chicken and cheese, and spinach jalapeño and cheese pupusas. I would recommend these to anyone and everyone, and I’m hoping to try the others very soon! Overall, this place is amazing. Incredibly authentic, clean, quick, well-priced food that gives your taste buds a one way ticket to El Salvador! I’ll be back VERY soon 😁
Loved this place. We have been to El Sal twice. Love pupusas. The fried corn tamale thing was amazing too. We tried four different pupusas. The spinach one was our favorite! Sweet owners. Good all around!
I've driven past this place so many times and finally tried it today. All I can say is wow. Run, don't walk, to pick up (or doordash) some food from here. It's all good. We tried queso pupusas, both birria and chicken tacos, brisket quesadillas, yucca fries with chicharron, rice and beans, and two flavors of Aguas frescas (melon and horchata). Everything was good, even the picky kids enjoyed it.
Best food to come to Cleburne in a very long time! The owner pours her heart and soul into everything she makes! Her pupusas are the very best! Tasty and authentic! She takes pride in her cooking and you can definitely tell after that first bite! Go try it out, you're gonna love everything on the menu!!
The food here never disappoints, I highly recommend getting a Carne Asada Torta and putting some Green Sauce on it or a Big Breakfast Burrito with Eggs, Bacon, Potatoes, Asada, Cheese, and then just put green sauce and red sauce in it. 'tis absolutely worth it.
The only place in town I go to. Amazing food and always friendly. The pupusas are always freshly made.
Hands down, best tacos I've ever had! If you get anything, get the Birria tacos. Get everything on them, dunk them in the broth. It's so good, it's worth the huge mess. Authentic, delicious horchata. Seriously, I'm excited to try more!!
It truly doesn't get more authentic than this little shop! It's a family run business and they made me feel like I was back at my tia's house. The platanos were SO incredibly good, pupusas were amazing, sauces and all! and their agua frescas 🔥. I got the maracuyan (passion fruit) it was so fresh and good! If you are in need of some salvi food, go here. You won't regret it!
Fantastic birria tacos and pastelitos here! Love this place so much!
The absolute best Mexican food I’ve ever tasted! The birria tacos, carne asada tacos, and pupusa are all the best! Going back over and over again!!
Excellent food every time!
Just a small hole in the wall place the chips are fresh made the barria tacos were delicious the fresco drinks were delicious burritos are huge will definitely be back.
Our first time trying today, we’ve never had anything like this. We tried three different pupusas and they were all good. The slaw was awesome! They take 15 minutes to make fresh. We will go again.
First time here. We got the birria tacos. They were so fresh and good. The consumme was amazing. The staff is very polite. They do a great job. I'll definitely be coming back.
5 out of 5 stars, 10 out of 10 would recommend. I forgot to take a picture cuz it was so good. We ate inside, but there was a drive thru. We had a pupusa, torta, and 7 tacos (barbacoa and asada) total, and it was much cheaper than a lot of other places. It tasted amazing though. You could tell that everything was made fresh, and care went into the seasoning. I think this was definitely the best barbacoa I've had South of highway 20, and it's definitely worth a visit. My husband even debated getting some to-go just to have more later. Also the sweet tea tasted like we made it at home, so that was definitely a great start.
The food was so good. The papusas were fantastic and the birria taco was incredible. The queso papusa was my personal favorite and I liked that the salas were actually spicy! Only complaint is that the papusa on the bottom of thr stack was a little soggy/undercooked so I was unable to eat the middle of it. The inside of thr restaurant was hot so I would definitely recommend getting your meal to-go.
We were working in the area and stopped by after work to try it out. Let me tell you, I will be coming back. It's hard to find places that make good pupusas like my mom makes them. They were really good. I 100% recommend them!
Wow!!!! First of all this is as Authentic as you get in a small town like Cleburne, the food amazing. Definitely takes me back to home style Salvadoran cooking. They had a variety of delicious items to choose on the menu I am definitely going to be a regular here. Yall will definitely see me back soon.
Absolutely love this place. I eat here several times a week. The food is always freshly prepared and the prices are great. If you haven't tried it your missing out.
Food is amazing! The service was ok... The look and feel was very authentic.
Had the carne asada tortas and they are by far the best tortas I’ve had yet! The flan is also amazing! Made from scratch and very delicious. Mariana was very friendly and fast/efficient with my order! Certainly recommended!
This is such a hidden gem in Cleburne!! Food and salsa are fire!! I love it! 😘🥰 the tortillas are so gooey and fresh, the chicken and the carne asada are so so good! I always pay for extra salsa verde because it's delicious 😋
A must try in Cleburne! The food was excellent. The service surpassed my expectations! I love that its a family owned restaurant. Owner is exceptional!
Amazing tacos and burritos very friendly service
Absolutely the best menudo I had on this side of the border. And papusas are yum, so authentic. People who run this are very sweet and attentive, highly recommend this family restaurant, food tastes amazing, homemade, one can taste the love that goes into it!
This restaurant is mostly a take-out restaurant. There's an inside, but it's tiny and I've only ever used the drive thru. The food is amazing!!!!! Birria Taco plate is amazing!!! I'm addicted!!! I also love the pupusas! Be prepared for your mouth to burn on some of them. Or ask if they can add less jalapenos. I can't say enough great things about this restaurant or the lovely people that work there!!!!
Amazing food and friendly staff! This will be our go to spot when going to Cleburne from here on out. 10/10 recommend.
I had to stop in the middle of eating to wrote this review. I'm already planning my next stop here because this brisket burrito is so delicious!
Our waitress Marianna was wonderful! The food delicious. All of our dishes were great.
I ordered delivery so I can't rate the customer service. This is my first time eating here and I've lived in Cleburne 6 years. I saw they didn't have a ton of reviews and not a lot of mentions on the breakfast burritos. I had a chorizo, egg and cheese burrito and it was great! The chorizo seemed fresh and wasn't overcooked, It had a nice amount of cheese and my absolute favorite thing, is the TRUE taqueria style green sauce. That seems to be so hard to find around here and for me, is a must have for any authentic Mexican dish. Thank you! I will definitely be back to try other things!
Just moved to Cleburne and found this little jewel off the beaten path. I happen to like Salvadorian food, so I decided to stop by. This place is amazing. Small and intimate setting - almost like you are invited into her home type feel. All the food being served looked really good, but I was inthe mood for a good torta. I ordered the carne asada torta and a drink. The torta really hit - from the fresh bread to the perfectly grilled meat, the sandwich was exactly what I wanted...absolutely delicious. The drinks - they offer many different drinks, but you would be missing out if you did not try their agua frescas they make fresh. I had the watermelon / strawberry and it was extremely refreshing and delicious. Perfect for a hot day. I will be a return customer 100%, and I would highly suggest coming in to have a meal here.
The popusas were delicious and so were the tacos. The drinks are naturally made and not powered so that’s always a plus. Everything was very affordable and the people was very attentive. You must try this place. 🥰
My first visit and I'm extremely impressed. A lot of places claim they have the best food, which I know better to believe that. I've been fooled one too many times. But when you go to a place that serves barbacoa and it doesn't come with tons of grease, you know the cooks know what they're doing. Besides, the food is simply delicious 😋
Recommend by a co-worker. I've been there three days in a row. It's everything you hope for in a "hole in the wall". Reasonable prices and GREAT food. I'm going to have to stop myself from going every day.😋
I have been searching for this exact kind of place close to home for years, and I finally found it! It's a hole in the wall with amazing, authentic food - particularly birria tacos midweek. I tried a pupusa for the first time, and now I don't know if I'm more addicted to quesabirria or pupusas. Well, I can get both here and eat like a queen for less than $15. Day made!
Wow, what a hidden gem! My fiancé and I have been trying to find an authentic pupusa restaurant and this is the one. We tried a little bit of everything and it was all fantastic. Stop by for a delicious meal and wonderful service. We will be back for sure!
Like Pupusas? You will. This place is delicious, friendly and fast. I have never had a Spinach, Jalapeño, and Cheese pupusa until now and we’ll let’s just say…”Yes, please!” This is like having a little piece of El Salvador right here in Cleburne TX. So just check out the menu (pictured) and order up!
I was excited when I saw Pupusas in Cleburne, very few places have them. These were absolutely amazing. I had the chicken and cheese, the just cheese and the jalapeño, spinach and cheese. They were all very flavorful and full of the fillings. I will DEFINITELY be back! The lady who helped me was very nice and they have a nice shaded area to wait for your food and a picnic table to eat at if you're just stopping for a quick bite. Great place!
Lovely little cafe with warm atmosphere and delicious food. Great portion sizes to match the price. Staff is very friendly. All the best!
I have to say that I’m absolutely blown away from my first experience to my most recent visit, Food is great in taste, presentation and hygiene it’s all there. Great customer service.
What a delicious meal! Such good flavor. The salsas are amazing as well.

THIS PLACE IS SO FREAKING GOOD!!!! I live in Burleson and (IMO) they don’t have ANY good South American food here 😅, I wish I had known this place was only 20 mins down the road. I got way too excited and got a papusa, sope, asada taco, and brisket taco and everything was so delicious!! Oh yah, I got a horchata too. I was a little nervous about the cost because I didn’t see any prices posted, but for everything it was only $20. 😊😊 Definitely coming back for more!!
Update: This is an update to a previous review. The price was an accident and they were quick to remedy the issue. Their staff was very helpful and provided great customer service. We love Carmelitas and will continue to support their business. 👍 Always been a fave, but $18 for a breakfast burrito is crazy
Saw this place online and decided to give it a try. Everything was very good. Ingredients tasted fresh. The chicken tamale was wrapped in banana leaves and tastes similar to Honduran tamales (minus the green olives). Green sauce was amazing and spicy. We will definitely be back. I’m very glad I found this place. We devoured our food so I have no pictures. 🤦🏼♀️
the food is amazing, and staff is friendly every time i have gone. no complaints, but only hope they could expand into a bigger building (if they desired) so there’s more room. it feels fairly crowded in there at times but that could just be a personal issue of mine.
This place was top notch from stepping in the door to saying goodbye. They greeted my family as new comers as we arrived and answered all our questions. We had several items from the menu and everyone was highly impressed. The street tacos I had were bomb and I’ll have them again and again! Going back for breakfast probably tomorrow. Forgot to get any pics but will next time. Go. Go now. And thank me later. They even do grub hub or door dash whatever maybe both. Now you have no excuse. You will return and return again and tell all your friends too.

We were working in the area and stopped by after work to try it out. Let me tell you, I will be coming back. It's hard to find places that make good pupusas like my mom makes them. They were really good. I 100% recommend them!
I ordered three different torta’s for the family. Each one was delicious. Staff very friendly. You get your money’s worth. I recommend trying it out.
Love the place... amazing food but a looooooong wait time. Expected though when the food is so amazing.
Small local business. It appears to be family ran. Friendly staff and good service. Food served hot and tasty. Prices appear to me fair. Mexican food is prepared here. Several items on the menu to choose from. Breakfast and lunch served. Closed on Sunday. Drive through and dine in available.
The birria tacos were delicious! Service was friendly. Would recommend.
When you first walk in it feels very crowded. The staff did not greet me when I walked in but, they took my drink order fairly quick. They have a very small sitting area. The place is small so they use the majority of the space to store things. The Agua de Jamaica had a light red color. The pupusa was very delicious. I had the Revuelta. The curtido was fresh and tasty. The green sauce was good but the red sauce had more flavor. I also had a torta con asada. The bread was fresh and the meat had a good flavor. The serrano toreado me enchiló.
The food is good here! I love their tacos. It's a little takeout place with a drive through window for those who don't want to get out of their car and go inside.

Prices look fair but small quanity for the price. Enjoyed brisquett tacos but beans a little salty & plain & rice was plain flavored - guess could have added their good hot sauce to add flavor. Overall- I'm gonna have to try 'em a couple more times; perhaps for breakfast and a different night meal before I decide to say thumbs up or down; not sold one way or the other but I'd suggest you decide for yourself at corner of Granburry & Poindexter in Cleburne.
Food was great but the wait took FOREVER, to the point we considered leaving, then we asked when it would be ready and they said, “oh getting ready now” and it was another 10 minutes. Food wasn’t worth the wait, but calling ahead for takeout would be.
Lady at window was rude and my barbacoa torta was seriously disappointing. But pricing is pretty fair and the green sauce they give you with the torta is pretty good. All in all i suggest trying it yourself but just avoid their barbacoa.
So I am new to the area and I'm trying to find good food so I just stopped by today. The staff was nice but when I got home I was very disappointed about my Carne Guisda. The portion was small and I only had 3 small pieces of meat with lots of potatoes and carrots which I have never had inside of my Carne Guisda before and both of which I do not eat. So a waste of money now I have to go find a main dish to go with my rice and beans. Needless to say I will not be returning to this place.
Came here expecting a five star experience and left really disappointed. They told me it was a thirty minute wait and okay thats fine i wanted to try it out so why not? Nope sat there for an hour waiting and they didnt even give me my drink until 30 min into my wait time (btw i didnt enjoy eating my drink there was so much pulp in there) and when the food came out it was pretty much cold. Wouldnt go again.
So came here bought 50 dollars worth of food, 2 kids chicken quesadillas had to add and pay for rice and beans as they were not.included then bought what I was told 2 birria taco PLATES and specifically asked if the birria PLATES came with rice and beans was told yes (if not I was going to pay out of pocket on top of the 12 dollars charged for each set of birria tacos) total of 50 dollars. I get my food get all the way home (about a ten min drive) no rice and beans ON ANY OF THE PLATES KIDS NOR BIRRIA. I go all the way back up there (another ten min drive) give them all the food back let them know no rice and beans and I paid 50 dollars, I then ask if just the birria tacos can be remaid as they were soggy at that point due to me having to drive back and fourth due to them FORGETTING THE RICE AND BEANS FOR ALL PLATES. I WAS THEN TOLD THEY WOULD NOT REMAKE THEM BECAUSE I TOOK LONG I INFORMED HER I LIVE ALL THE WAY ACROSS TOWN 10 MIN HOME AND TEN MIN BACK UP THERE BECAUSE THEY FORGOT MY RICE AND BEANS I PAID FOR. I get my food back get home STILL NO RICE AND BEANS ON BIRRIA PLATES. I call up there at this point and was told the PLATE does no come with rice and beans . Customer service trash and very unprofessional. Did let them know I was told the plates came with it and why is it called a plate and was told there was nothing they could do. DO NOT WASTE YOUR TIME NOR MONEY. the most disrespectful family owned business I've ever been too. Response to their comment: I was not GIVEN rice and beans I PAID for rice and beans had to drive ten min home then open everything realizing there was no rice and beans then had to drive back, not only was that missing but till I got home the second time I realize my kids chicken quasadillas WERE JUST CHEESE WHICH I ALSO PAID EXTRA FOR WHICH THEY DID NOT EAT. On top of that why would you prepare food I had not paid for I said I'd be back with a card. So yallmade my food I did not specify how long I got back 40 min later and yall gave me cold soggy food.
Got two pupusas and a carne asada burrito. Not good at all. One pupusa was $3.25 was not cooked all the way. Can't even taste the cheese and the pork. My BF got a burrito and the carne asada was tough, chewy and no taste at all. Spent total of $15. 00 and was not happy.
I'm a doordasher and I pick up an order and they gave me the wrong order so I went back for the right order and we'll they took the food back after me having it in my car for 20 minutes. I guarantee they put the food back in the pots and I guarantee they're going to reuse the food I would recommend not going there anymore
I got Food poisoning from the carne asada burrito. 102 Fever, Throwing up and dizziness.
After seeing all the 5 🌟 reviews and being new to Cleburne we made it point to eat that we are mostly from central America and wanted to eat our traditional food..... let me tell you that I was sadly disappointed...... We ordered 2 platio tipico and a extra cheese popular. We ordered 2 for hats and 1 watermelon and strawberry. The orchard drink was very good. The watermelon and strawberry dink was so insipid.... the chicken tamales were flaky and dry with nearly no chicken and Luke warm ... very bad. The cheese popular were made (in my opinion with extremely low quality cheese which causes the cheese to separate and be watery and not cheesey and stretchy) very badly. My six year old would not even eat them. The mix popusa (chichron and cheese) tasted like refrigerator. The yuca was not fried fully. The only thing that was very delicious were the refried beans and fried plantain.... Very good. I don't know if it was just a bad day for the cook, or as the waiter said that they were extremely busy in the drive - thru. Or what was the problem. I sadness me to write this but needless to say we will never eat there again. I do have to say on the restaurants behalf that we were no charged a single penny for the food....
