Great burritos. An absolute must visit if you're in Coronado.
Best burritos on the island. They are always consistently good! They also have vegetarian options which is nice.
Excellent menu, tasty food, large portions, affordable pricing. Considering the area, where sit down restaurants can get pricey, this place is the best bargain in town and excellent quality. I got the Asada fries for the kids, taquitos for me, and a huge carne asada burrito for my wife. Got to sit at the tables outside to enjoy our meal. Food came out pretty quick and ordering was easy. Will visit this place everytime I'm on the island. Oh, and lots of nearby parking.
We called in and picked up 15 mins later . Awesome service . Absolutely loved the Nachos ….They hook it up HUGE .❤️🙏✌️
Probably some of the best Mexican Food on Coronado for the price. The portions are always more then we can handle in one sitting and there is something for everyone. Breakfast, Lunch or Dinner, they got you covered. The breakfast burrito is one of my favorites simply because it has refried beans inside! Always a treat when coming here!
Waiting to come back down to SD and stop at Clayton's for a California burrito. First place I stop at when I get off the plane. A definite place to eat at for good, inexpensive food. Will be the place I get my dinner before I leave. For the 4 days I'm in the area I'll probably eat here 3 or 4 times.
Nice staff, good food, & their to-go containers are reusable! 🎉 We really like the verde sauce. We would eat here again 👍 note to self: rice was only okay, beans were bomb
This is 3 places in 1! On the corner is a dinner vibe with outdoor tables. Very traditional American food. Next to it is a window walk up coffee shop. Next to that is Clayton’s Mexican Takeout. Walk in the door to order and there’s 2 tables outside so you can eat on site. The portions are huge, the flavor is great! We came in and got the King Monster Burrito and the Coronado Surf and Turf Burrito. Both were amazing! We will definitely be coming back to try more things on the menu!
Fantastic hole in the wall burrito annex just behind the main Clayton's coffee shop. Food was ready quick, though be careful to listen for your order because they often yell dishes rather than order numbers. Ordered the birria California burrito, and it was outstanding, with plenty of filling.
We stopped for lunch on a busy New Year’s Eve on Coronado Island. The food options were varied. We were able to find something for everyone in our party, including one vegetarian and one gluten-free person! The service was friendly and the food was delicious. We snagged one of the tables out front, which was key.
Great little takeout joint. The staff was cool, the food wonderful. We plan to return soon for more.
Absolutely delicious food. Don't let the size of the place deter you. Got the birria California burrito and it did not disappoint. Great price for the amount of food. A must stop if you are craving this style of food in the area.
I ate a pair of breakfast burritos here last week and they were fabulous. The to-go counter is bustling, the food is delicious and the breakfast is really good. There's also a to-go coffee counter directly next to the Mexican food counter which makes for a great quick breakfast combination!
Overall I was very impressed with Clayton's. Their burritos are huge and the tacos were also substantial. Everything was fresh and delicious. We'll be back!!

Quick, cheap, and delicious! Got the Carnitas, which were a good portion of jaw dropping food.

The food was excellent, perfect easy takeout for when your kids aren’t feeling a sit-down meal. Everything we ordered was delicious with big portions.
Love their huge burritos! The green salsa is amazing! Nice lunch to take to the beautiful beach and enjoy the sun 🌞
Pamela was awesome... she made the whole experience great. I always get happy when she is there to take my order.

Got the shrimp plate and carne asada burrito. Both were good. This is not the best burrito ever. Pretty good for the value. Second time, and both times were good! Services fast and convenient. We have some tables just outside for a quick sit and bite.
Let me just say this is a great choice! Pros: I got the chicken taco salad, the taco shell was so delicious! I want to just go order one all alone. The chicken portion was fabulous! Con: the chicken wasn’t seasoned very well. Adding the salsa kind of helped. But it was too spicy of salsa for me. My husband ordered a burrito and loved it. He did note that it was a bit to overpowering in the flavor of the meat. But overall would definitely go back! Prices have updated so I am including a picture of the menu from Clayton’s.

Ok I love their burritos... But $15 dollars is a little outrageous for one burrito. It used to be $9 last year.... Soooo yeah I'm not happy about the price but they are delicious. I just won't be coming as often because of the price.
I'm very sad to leave this review. I am not a resident, but spend a great deal of time in San diego for the last 25 years. This place has been my goto for burittos for as long as I can remember. Surf and turf is my favorite. However, their prices went up, and quality has gone down. Used to be a $14 burrito is now $20. What used to be loaded with protein, is now loaded with fillers. And now they use the little salad shrimp instead of the bigger shrimp they used to use... taste is still good, that's why I gave 3 stars and not lower.
Clean take out place. Great prices and large portions. Carne asada quesadilla fantastic flavor but a bit dry, Taco enchilada combo overpowered by chipotle sauce.

About 20 minutes prior to closing time (9PM) my husband called the restaurant and asked if he still had time to place an order. He was told that he could so long as he could pick it up by 9PM which was no big deal since our hotel is within walking distance. Naturally, I was excited because I was told that getting Mexican food in San Diego is a must. Suffice it to say, what I received were the worst carne asada tacos, actually tacos in general, I’ve ever had. Poorly thrown together, bland and, worst of all, cold. In retrospect, we probably never should’ve ordered anything so close to their close of business. I gave them an extra star for accepting the order, but would’ve rather had no food than disappointing food. Lesson learned. Update: Hi Andrew, I tried to reach out at 9:20 AM today on 9/27/21 but the phone kept ringing at the coffee shop. Nonetheless, my husband picked up the Mexican food in question on Saturday, 9/25/21. I appreciate your response.
Pricey but DELICIOUS. I ordered breakfast street tacos and a cali burrito. I recieved a sausage breakfast burrito and cali burrito. Not sure if there's a language barrier there. Also asked for more salsa, i was told there was already 3 green and 3 red in the bag so I didn't need more than that, there was only 2 of each.
The tacos were just okay... actually below the average. Didn't have any flavors.. so bland.. price was okay. The guacamole was just avocado.. no other ingredients. The salsa Fresca had bitter flavor, tasted like it was fermented, not fresh! Sorry.. but the service was good..!
Over priced and underwhelming. The burritos you see here cost $9 each! The cost is not a problem if it matches the product but in this case there is a huge disconnect. The meat seemed like something they got out of a can. The fries in the California were the cheap crinkle cut kind and were totally soggy mush. There wasn’t much flavor nor pride in the product. The customer service was non-existent. I came here based on a recommendation and I will not go back and I’m beginning to question my friend’s taste who recommended the place. If you are stuck in Coronado it’s better than starving but if you have a car, go over the bridge and check out Salud or heck even Taco Bell.
Today I tried the veggie street tacos. All I could taste was sour cream which was the main ingredient, with black beans on top which seemed backwards. When I return I will get something else. Second time to clayton’s take out window, got a breakfast burrito and donut holes today- mediocre, dry coconut donut hole and burrito with eggs and refried beans was a weird combo and green salsa was fermenting, not sure what to order here that’s good
Carne asada burrito was not even lukewarm. It was below room temp and the cheese wasn't even melted. Meat was not warm or hot. 😐

We were excited to try this place because of the reviews and the pictures but ended up being so disappointed! We ordered shrimp tacos, which looked great when they came out (see picture), also beef and fish tacos. The beef tacos were drenched in oil, they were so greasy. In the end we couldn't eat them and left feeling so ill. I definitely wouldn't go back, such a shame!

Gave this place another chance today since mexican food options are limited in Coronado. They confirmed why I never go here. Paid $15 for a breakfast burrito which was supposed to be egg, hashbrown, cheese and avocado. Easy, right? Nope. I got a burrito with rice, lettuce, sour cream and cheese. Others have called this place mid but by San Diego standards it's way worse than mid. I've also noticed that the people who actually like this place aren't from California so their standards are pretty low. If you want GOOD, AUTHENTIC mexican food, do yourself a favor and drive over the bridge to Barrio Logan or across the strand to IB.
