My wife and I visited on a slightly cold night on 2/12/26. We arrived early to hopefully get a table inside, instead of our reserved outdoor table. Assistant Manager Lucy accommodated us as long we we were out by 7PM. It gave us 50 minutes to dine. What an incredible experience!! We shared the mussels as appetizers, based on our servers Evie's recommendation. It was the best we ever had! The swordfish and sea bass were wonderful. We came from Idaho and felt like royalty. Jaden, Lucy and Evie made this one of our top two fish dining experiences we ever had. Their professionalism and customer service made this visit spectacular. We will be back next time we are in San Diego. Five stars for service is not enough.
What an awesome experience at the fishery this past Saturday night. If you have the opportunity, sit at the bar though anywhere in the restaurant would be fun. Alex Shea and Zach took a great care of us. Not only are they great bartenders but they are a lot of fun they have great personalities and do not rush you to order and leave. The halibut was fabulous and the crab bucatini was the best. By the way the martini pores are very good too. Can't wait to return to San Diego and visit this remarkable restaurant.
i’ve driven past this place so many times and always heard good things, so i finally decided to stop in for lunch and i’m so glad i did! it definitely gives off a fancy vibe from the outside, but the moment you walk in, the energy is warm, welcoming, and totally casual. everything we ordered was great: the oysters were fresh, the sardines were packed with flavor, and the calamari was perfectly crispy. but the true standout was the fish collar, it was incredibly tender, with crispy edges and rich, buttery meat that just melted in your mouth.
The Fishery absolutely nailed every dish we ordered. The Pacific Bluefin steak was flawless - seared to a perfect medium rare with a crisp, flavorful crust and a soft, buttery center that practically melted on the fork. It’s rich but balanced, and you can tell the fish is top quality. The aguachile was just as impressive — bright, clean, and beautifully layered. The mix of pico de gallo, cilantro, radish, and lime gave it a perfect kick of acidity and freshness. It’s the kind of dish that feels both refreshing and deeply satisfying. And the New England clam chowder (off-menu special) was comfort in a bowl — creamy but not heavy, with tender clams and perfectly cooked potatoes. Every plate showed real care and respect for the ingredients. Easily one of the best seafood spots in San Diego. The Fishery’s cocktail program is easily one of the best in San Diego. The Fishery Milk Punch is silky, bright, and perfectly balanced — blanco tequila, yogurt, and clarified milk come together in this smooth, almost weightless texture. The lemongrass note lingers softly, adding a clean citrus finish that keeps it refreshing rather than heavy. Her Name Was Lola is tropical but refined — blanco tequila with coconut, cucumber, and lime. It’s light, crisp, and just sweet enough. The cucumber and lime keep it refreshing while the coconut rounds it out with a soft creaminess. It is a perfect match with aquachile. The lime and cucumber echo the dish’s acidity and crunch, while the coconut smooths out the spice. The City of Music is a mix of gin, spruce tip, aquavit, and spirulina unlike anything else I’ve had. It’s earthy yet bright, with a clean finish that feels both coastal and foresty at once. It pairs nicely with the Pacific Bluefin Steak - the drink’s herbal, slightly resinous notes complement the seared crust and rich, buttery tuna interior.
The Fishery delivered an excellent experience overall. Food and ambience were top notch. The swordchop was outstanding and definitely a generous portion for 2 people. Our server was friendly, though a bit slow to check in on us throughout the meal. Seemed to give more attention to other tables.
If you’re searching for a fresh seafood place in Pacific Beach, the Fishery is the perfect spot. Highly recommend ordering the Milk Punch cocktail with tequila - may be the best alcoholic drink I’ve had. So easy to drink and very enjoyable. For appetizer, you can’t go wrong with the muscles made with a basic curry sauce which has a great balance of flavors. The macadamia crusted halibut served with smashed potatoes and the lemon butter sauce is an absolute must. The handroll was also delicious and flavorful with every bite. We finished with the chocolate torte dessert and their house made amaretto - incredible!! Give the Fishery a shot, you will not be disappointed,
Late night dinner but glad we came! The staff was amazing including our waiter. Comfortable inviting environment that wasn’t too crowded! I usually don’t list things but it feels appropriate here! The clam chowder, and rockfish main course were both memorable dishes. I can’t think of a better chowder or whole fish I’ve had anywhere in my life . The portions were fantastic as well! The fish also came With crispy potatoes that I could literally eat everyday. It really doesn’t get much better than this. The sashimi, calamari and desert were good! But it notably lacked compared to the fish and soup but It’s hard to compare to a culinary triumph such as those. Overall a great dinner. I would definitely come back and try more times. I would come back just for those potatoes.
Had an amazing meal at The Fishery! If you go, you have to try the macadamia nut halibut—it’s crispy, flavorful, and just perfect. The cocktails were just as good—super well-made and a great complement to the meal. The whole vibe of the place is warm and inviting, and our server was just lovely, making it a great spot for a nice dinner. Definitely recommend!
I think this was my favourite meal during my whole trip in San Diego. The service was fantastic and the waiters really know the food well and are able to guide you through the menu to choose something you’ll enjoy. We were seated outside but there was heaters and also blankets available since it was a bit chilly. I got the diver scallops, swordfish, and some hand rolls. All were cooked perfectly and really highlighted the high quality seafood that the Fishery has to offer. I highly recommend coming here!
Quaint restaurant perfect for couples or family gatherings. It’s a little upscale for children so I wouldn’t bring young kids to this spot. The atmosphere is cozy and quiet, lots of seating. The menu has variety without being huge. The portions are perfect for one. My only “negative” is that the calamari app was a tad too salty and I didn’t feel that the price ($20) matched the quality of what we got. Outside of the saltiness the calamari was good though so I wouldn’t say this was a make or break aspect. Our server was friendly and attentive. I’d give this restaurant another shot
The restaurant has a beautiful atmosphere, and you can feel the unique charm behind its concept — especially knowing the owner started out as a fisherman and built this place into something refined and stylish. The setting truly stands out. However, the service didn’t quite match the high-end pricing. One of the dishes arrived surprisingly bland, and even a simple request for seasoning turned into an unnecessary hassle. For a restaurant positioned at this level, that part was disappointing. I initially felt the visit deserved three stars, but the manager completely changed the tone. He handled the situation with professionalism and genuine warmth, and his approach reflected the kind of hospitality this place aims for. Because of his effort, I’m giving four stars and hoping the next visit reflects the same level of care throughout.
Went here after a friend raved about this place. Went on a Saturday evening. Recommend making a reservation at least 2-3 days in advance because otherwise it would be really hard to find seatings. We got couple cocktails, calamari, mussels, fish and chips and rock crab fettuccine. The calamari and mussels were great. I especially loved the mussels- the green curry flavor was on point. Not fishy at all. The fettuccine unfortunately was extremely salty. The pasta noodle tasted good, but the sauce was too salty that that's all I noticed eating the dish. It was disappointing. The fish and chips were good. Service wise. They uncharged 4% for service fee. But I noticed some delay in getting things we asked (asked for sliced lemon with water and extra bread- the lemon required extra nudge before it came out, and the bread came out after we finished our meal...). Also, I asked for a blanket because of the chilly weather, and the blanket I got had a really bad musty odor to it, so I couldn't use it. But other than these minor things, food tasted good for the most part, and the ambiance was good. Everyone was very kind.
This place is very good. We ate outside cuz of weather was good so the atmosphere gets a five. The food was great so they get a five. The service was good but the waiter was very chatty when I was trying to talk to my wife so he gets a four. Pretty much the experience was great. We had two drinks two entrees and two appetizers. The bill was right around $250. This is a Michelin recommended restaurant and I recommend it for you as well. I will be going back and I will tell others to go but just make sure you got a little bit of money on you before you do. Very good restaurant.
Ok , I had to double check this morning to make sure I went to the same restaurant that everyone had given the Fishery as the best seafood restaurant in San Diego, and received a Michelin nod. First , the ambience is not great as people have described. I was surprised it felt like being in an elevated Denny's with plain wood not very comfortable and very casual seating. The service was supposed to be incredible. The server had a big smile on his face and was very bubbly but he was moving fast , never took the time to explain the dishes, or offered any input on the menu or wine. It was if he was in such a hurry and the restaurant was half full on a Wednesday night. We ordered the carpaccio blue fin tuna as an appetizer. The preparation was very good wih the olive oil and capers, but there were some pieces that were chewy and shouldnt be so at such a highly rated restaurant. I ordered the Alaskan Salmon medium rare and so did my mother., medium. My husband ordered the macadamia crusted halibut. We waited some time for our meal which made me think that they were taking the time to prepare each meal fresh. Well, I would be wrong. First , when the salmon arrived , my mom's piece was double the size of mine. I should have taken a picture. My piece was about 1 1/2 inch strip by 4 inch. It was sitting on lentils and yoghurt sauce. First , the fish was overcooked, and dry. But the part that was problematic was that it tasted like fish that had been frozen and had lost all its moisture. I showed the server who brought me another piece and when I tried the other piece , it did have some rawness in the middle but it was dry in the exterior which demonstrates that it was frozen not fresh . Fresh fish does not turn out that way. I always cook my fish the day I buy it to avoid the loss of moisture. The lentil combo was also super salty obviously to make up for the lack of flavor. My mothers was the same. My husband's was very bland . Literally, we could have eaten at the Brigantine which I think is mediocre but is better than this restaurant . Don't waste your money and please for those who have good palletes, don't give good reviews when it really is not good ambience or fresh, so the rest of us dont blow good money.
