Chart House was a really nice restaurant! It had a great ambience; great views of the city, dim lighting, and good music. The food was really good as well. We got the Crispy Coconut Shrimp, Calamari and the Salmon. Everything had surprising flavor! The meal was a bit pricey but I think it was worth it. The Pacific ocean is beautiful! They do have a happy hour and believe when I say it is well worth it! $6-$8 drinks. $9, $11 and $13 appetizers. You could definitely leave full and feeling great for not too much money. The only catch is that the happy hour is only available in the bar sitting area (not the dining room) and it is first come first served from 4 pm- 6 pm and fills up pretty quickly so get there a little early to ensure you get a seat. They offer valet parking in their parking lot, otherwise there is limited street parking. If you prefer the dining area be sure to make a reservation! All in all this place is a vibe!
We went for Valentines Day, and we honestly can’t wait to go back. We sat outside and the views were amazing, and as it got a little chillier as the sun went down they provided heaters which was a great added touch. Our waiter’s recommendations were great and the food was fantastic. The mojito flight was so fun. Definitely a great date night!
Our server Heather was incredible! We came for happy hour and dinner at sunset. The sunset views from this restaurant have to be the best of our entire trip. Heather was incredibly nice, gave great recommendations for the rest of our vacation, and even offered to take our photo during sunset. Cant wait to come back!
We celebrated my husband’s birthday at this restaurant. Amazing view & ambience was great. We loved the seafood there.
The cuisine is consistently excellent, as is the service, and the views are truly unparalleled.
We made a reservation (definitely recommended) and visited on Valentine's Eve. We had the choice of outdoor seating or indoor, and we chose to sit outside on their grass terrace. They had plenty of heaters and in fact, we were actually a little too warm! Thankfully they turned the heat down a little. What a spectacular view of the harbor lights! I ordered the filet and lobster bisque and the filet was tender and cooked just right. My wife started with their beet and carrot salad and I thought it was one of the best presentations I've seen! She loved it. For her main course she ordered prime rib. She likes it brown which is not easy for prime rib, but they cut a piece and cooked it just right. We enjoyed and finished with dessert. I had the famous mud pie and my wife had their creme brulee flight. It was the first time I'd been there in decades and I didn't know what I'd experience but it was just as good as I remembered! Because it was Valentine's weekend I had to park quite a ways away and took a 5-minute walk to get to and from.
This was the perfect place to celebrate our anniversary! The staff was amazing!!!! The atmosphere and food were phenomenal!!!! I plan on making this our anniversary date night destination every year. I have also come during happy hour with a group of friends which was also amazing. Creative cocktails and the view is breathtaking. Service was on point!
Evelin was excellent. She listened well and made sure me and my family had a great experience. We were able to be seated at our favorite table. I highly recommend Chart House and Evelin.
We had an unbelievable experience on Christmas Day despite it being a very busy holiday. Our son asked to celebrate his birthday here. We did that last night and ended up at the same table (the BEST spot) and the same great server Evelin. Evelin was attentive and offered ideas and checked on us throughout the night. My sons are now fans of swordfish and sea bass. Thank you Evelin and the Chart House for the memories!!
Chart House is our go-to restaurant to celebrate great events. The Chart House chefs do a fantastic job, cooking is superb. On Nov. 30, our host server Tony B. was just amazing! He helped us so kindly and intelligently with the menu choices, how the meat should be cooked to our precise taste. Plus Tony took the most amazing photos of us. When reviewers say "Tony takes great photos" of guests with the gorgeous Chart House harbor view? What they really mean is: "Tony cares" about guests.
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Chart House Dana Point is always a great experience. The ocean view is incredible, and the whole place has a luxurious vibe. The steak is above average, and they even surprised me with a nice birthday dessert. My husband and I come almost every year for our birthdays or a date — it’s an easy place to enjoy a beautiful sunset with good food. They also seem to update their menu pretty often, which keeps each visit feeling fresh. Highly recommend!
We visited Chart House in Dana Point last Thursday to celebrate our wedding anniversary. We didn’t have a reservation, so we expected a bit of a wait, and it turned out to be about 45 minutes. Honestly, the wait was worth it. While waiting, we enjoyed the beautiful surroundings—the restaurant overlooks the marina, and the view is stunning, especially as the sun starts to set. Once seated, we were immediately struck by how cozy yet elegant the atmosphere felt. The staff was friendly and attentive without being overbearing, which made our anniversary dinner feel special. The food lived up to the setting—fresh, flavorful, and well-prepared. Every dish we tried was delicious and served promptly once we were seated. Parking was easy thanks to the valet service, which takes both cash and card. It’s a small convenience that makes the visit even smoother, especially in a busy marina area. Overall, Chart House Dana Point delivered a memorable evening for a special occasion. Between the gorgeous marina views, great food, and comfortable ambiance, it’s a place we would definitely return to—next time, probably with a reservation to skip the wait!
We had a wonderful dinner at Chart House located in Dana Point. The view was absolutely beautiful, and everyone was so nice. Our server was amazing—too bad I forgot his name! Chart House is highly recommended—if you’re visiting Dana Point, you should definitely check out this amazing restaurant with delicious food. It was the perfect place to celebrate our 10-year wedding anniversary. Thank God we found this restaurant. We had an amazing experience on Friday, June 20, 2025, at 7 PM.
Happy hour at the bar, great value. Arrived after 4pm and most tables were full by bar area. Had great service, quick and friendly. Get the Kim Chee calamari, it’s the best we have ever had. Umami flavor with the Kim chee sauce (not really spicy) also has plenty of veggies that have a delicious and delicate light crunchy batter. Prime sliders, 3 for $12 are a must. Good portion of beef and great flavor.
The place is located on a cliff with sweeping breathtaking views of the marina and the ocean. Pleasant service, timely preparation and everything was well prepared/quality. One maybe not essential note that made my personal experience a little off is the smell at the restaurant. Reminded me of an old grease or a dirty kitchen. It was present from the time we walked upstairs until we arrived to the dining room and never left. I’d suggest the restaurant to use high quality deodorizer to kill this dreadful aroma. Not the greatest impression when the air smells this bad.
We had dinner at the Chart House in Dana Point and our experience was the best! Our server Natasha was engaging and very attentive. She loved answering our questions and made our evening so much better! The views are spectacular. We went just before sunset and enjoyed the changing view as the sun set. I am recommending this restaurant to my family and friends. Even though we live in San Diego north county, it is worth the 45 minute drive. Thank you Natasha and Chart House for capping off our evening perfectly!
Went for happy hour and the place was packed already at 4:30pm! We originally hoped to get a table outside but that was clearly impossible. Landed the last table inside near the entrance. The view was definitely better outside but we felt lucky to even get a table. Nicely decorated and cozy feel to the restaurant. There is a main dining area and happy hour is in the bar / patio area. I heard from our waiter that people start waiting for HH tables at 3:20pm! We had the truffle fries which were good and drinks. The table was unstable so when I pressed down on my side our drinks spilled all over the place. Luckily the service was amazing! Smore (sorry, not sure if I am spelling his name correctly) who was standing nearby at the time jumped into action and got everything cleaned up, switched out the wet chair AND brought us a new drink! 👏👏👏👏 Get there early if you are going for happy hour. Valet parking in the lot, or if you arrive earlier (before 4pm) lots of street parking available.
We were in a party of 6 around 5:30pm on 7/12/25, let me say the dinner was Excellent, Tops and plating was gorgeous. Our waiter was Delightful and very courteous, gave us great entree suggestions to. The Veiw is simply Stunning. Our problem with the night was the " Valet " service around 6:30 pm, these two guys were Impatient, Disrespectful and not Welcoming at all, with Tip and Fee there was " Absolutely No Thank You" at all, we had two cars and this should be addressed by Management, we will return and these two guys are there we will say something. Thank you again for such a Delicious dinner and great service minus the Valet guys .
This was my first time at Chart House so I will start by saying maybe this was an off night. I had a reservation for two at 7 and we were not sat until 7:35 after being told they were running about 10 minutes behind. Everyone around us also had reservations and they were all waiting for their reserved table as well, not a good sign. We finally get to our table and it took at least 10 minutes for a server to come by. At this point it’s almost 8 pm and I am starving! We ordered drinks and put in our food right away as we were worried about long wait times. We were given bread and found a bug in it. We told the server and he apologized. We finally got our food and it was good but not great. The experience we had did not match the price tag of the bill. I wish they would have explained all the delays or done something to make guests feel seen. Communication goes a long way.
Save yourself time, money and stress by avoiding this place . The hosts are the rudest. This was not our first time dining there. Each time we make a reservation and arrive early. In our reservation we request for a table in the dining room and preferably window booth. One would think that maybe one time among the nearly 10 times our request would be met, noooooo. Instead we are told we can’t guarantee and each time we are seated anywhere but where we requested, I mean a one time accommodation would mean honesty but they are liers. I ordered a salad with basil balsamic dressing as listed on the menu, yet the server asked me for the dressing and I pointed to the menu and she said the menu is wrong. Salad arrived without any dressing. When the check arrived I gave my credit card and my rewards card, the check came back for signature with only the rewards card, thankfully I noticed the credit card was missing. If you want ices dinning with quality food and service go elsewhere avoid this place. Hosts are RuDE. Servers want to upsell you for the tip. Parking is crazy
Views: spectacular Service: below average. Super slow. You'll be waiting over an hour for your food and receive little attention. Your service may depend on your ethnicity. Mahi: way below average. It's basically fish jerky. It was so dry and hard that a knife won't even cut it. Filet mignon: we sent it back bc it was overcooked. Prime rib: average Lamb chops: above average. Drinks: average, doesn't taste good but looks fancy. Lava cake: get this!!!! It was delicious 10/10 Oysters: ok Parking: there is paid valet but we found free street parking and walked a few mins. Overall, the view and the restaurant was so beautiful. We were prepared for mediocre food. We were disappointed by service. So it evens out and I'd say it was an ok experience for the price. I would give 3.5 starts but that's not an option here.
2.5/5 You go here for the location and view, but the service is just OK and food is overpriced, mediocre fare you find at places like Applebee's. I tried calling ahead to reserve a table but the call went to voicemail. Luckily there wasn't any wait upon arrival, but the host was defensive and acted strange when I asked about the best way to make reservations. I ordered my meal from the section of the menu that "included" a salad, entree and dessert, but the check had each of those dishes itemized as separate charges. (Also, they charged me $5.25 for a Coca-Cola, so avoid fountain drinks. And the water at the table tasted like tap water.) Food was just OK. Steak probably the best part but cooked rare despite ordering medium rare. Lobster tail ordered with it presented well but was a little tough and rubbery. Salmon in the other dish was decent but the rice seemed almost microwaved or old somehow. I also found it funny when I left that there was a valet service because the parking lot is right next to the entrance, and the valet attendant asked if I was ok pulling out myself, to which I agreed, but of course I still had to pay the $9.00. And as I sat in the car getting situated, he kind of rudely gestured for me to pull out, rushing me. Odd experience and not worth $191 for 2 entrees, an appetizer, 2 coffees and a fountain drink. I would actually appreciate a refund for some of this if an owner or manager reads this review, because the bill was just too steep for what I ordered. I just didn't want to make a fuss out about it and ruin the limited time I had with my fiancee.
I dined on a Friday evening table for 1 at 5:30. Although I made my reservation the same day, I was still able to secure a seat. I felt bad for my server, Heather. She was the only competent person I dealt with this whole experience. I arrived around 5:35 because parking was hard to find and the host had me wait until 5:50 for a seat even with a reservation. There was no real explanation why. I did request a nice view so a simple "we're getting the best view cleaned for you" would have done but nothing was offered. During the15 minutes I spent standing awkwardly in the lobby the host's were talking rudely about other customers and offered a walk-in table of 4 a 10 minute wait time even though my reservation took 20 minutes to seat and I was one person (sat at a 4 top by the way. So please don't assume it was a different party size and different tables were available. This was poor customer experience stemming from mismanagement of the seating chart). As I mentioned before, Heather was the shining star of this experience and takes her job seriously. Her recommendations were spot on, she was quick to stop by if I needed something but wasn't hovering, and she showed patience with me as she was sat a 10+ top table and I had questions about a dish. Truly a gifted server. I will say, the food was incredible as well. The flavors and sensations were quite good. Not necessarily Michelin quality but very much fine dining. It's a shame the support staff for the servers was completely missing. I sat with every single one of my dirty dishes from appetizer through main course, as I sipped my dessert drink. Once I finished my drink and packed my leftovers myself, I sat with a second set of dirty dishes until there was time to process my payment. See both sets of dishes in the photos, please. There were no bussers and Heather had to clean my table herself, while juggling a full section and a 10+ top who continued to add guests (no idea how the host let that happen in a fine dining restaurant). I guess the Happy Hour is difficult to manage or something because there were children running around screaming outside in the court yard, no one was cleaning, and the only polite staff was Heather. If you're looking for good food with an excellent view, I recommend this location. Unfortunately, their standards do not match the pricing and I'd be cautious if you're trying to impress someone.
For years our family would drive feom North County up to Dana Point to celebrate special events. The view is phenomenal. The service and the food used to be great as well. The last two times we went, the service was awful and the food was mediocre at best. Last week we went to try it one last time and Im sorry to report that not only was the service horrible, the food for some of us was inedible. We waited way too long to get our drinks, we're told that the bread was coming and then we had to ask 3 more times to get the bread. I had to get up and go find another waitress so we could order our main courses. When we complained to the manager, she didn't even say she was sorry. Unfortunately, that was the last time we will be going to one of our oldest favorite spots.
We went for the view. In my reservation, I wrote, "Celebrating my girlfriend's birthday, so a nice table/view would be greatly appreciated." It was clear this was a woman requesting a table for her and her girlfriend. What followed felt discriminatory. We were seated at the worst table in the restaurant, the only one facing a wall instead of the bay or ocean. Our server was kind (the one positive part), but when we asked to move, she said to talk to the host. I politely explained, "It's my partner's birthday, and we came here for the view, but we're seated facing a wall. We see several open tables." The host replied, without empathy, "It'll be an hour and a half to two hours." That was it. We finished our $25 espresso martinis (below average) and an appetizer, then left. Why stay and spend hundreds more for that kind of treatment? The strict dress code made things worse. It bans shorts and "baggy clothing," so I had to scramble to find something to wear as a lesbian uncomfortable in feminine clothes- only to see a white man nearby in a graphic T-shirt and shorts. The double standard was frustrating and hurtful. We left feeling unwelcome, dismissed, and disappointed. I rarely write reviews, but this was disheartening enough to share. We just wanted a special night for my girlfriend's birthday and instead were made to feel out of place. Oh, and no need for Chart House to come in and comment that you "appreciate the feedback" or "thank us for choosing your restaurant." Address your blatant disrespect toward minorities instead.
