Avis sur Clara's Kitchen Denton
I just moved to Denton and I absolutely love my soul food! I found this place and I loved the food. Also the lady that made my plate is absolutely a sweetheart! I'm going back tomorrow because ima make sure I try everything on the menu!! Those ribs was big and so good! The collard greens and macaroni was so delicious!!! Definitely gonna leave the sweet lady that works in there a tip for her kindness. She also loves where she works and gives such a sweet welcoming. Thank you for that!
I tried Clara’s for the first time today hoping for ox tails but they weren’t ready yet so I went with the catfish fries and greens. It did not disappoint.i will definitely be back for the ox tails
I'd take a picture but there wasn't anything left lol, this place was delicious and made me tear up cause it reminded me of home. It was amazing and the cooks Kelly and Rob were wonderful! I don't give 5 stars ever but this place deserves it.
I've been going to Clara's since they opened and they've always been great. I was looking at some of these 1 star reviews and wondering if the quality had gone down over the years. it has not. It's a cute little hole in the wall. the food is amazing...they run out of stuff sometimes, but that's just how it goes. I'd recommend calling and picking up vs Uber eats delivery, just in case they're out of something. Catfish plate, Mac and cheese, greens ALWAYS hit. Peach cobbler was new for us and it was fresh out of the oven and DELICIOUS.
Honestly might be the best catfish in town! It's a humble little spot, but the food punches far above its weight! I usually get a catfish plate with okra and candied yam or mac&cheese. The quality is spot on every time. Transports me back to my childhood... Sometimes they may run out of certain sides, but that's just the reality of the business. The staff is always friendly and helpful, and it's really nice to be supporting a local business that makes food with heart!
This small "hole in the wall" place is old Denton. Good food served by good folks. Once you find the location you'll know that it's an order and take-home kind of place. There are a couple of booths and a picnic table if you can handle the Texas heat. The catfish is big and tasty and the Fries are my kind of liking. Cornbread is sweet and so worth it! Show this place some love and try it. I think you'll be surprised at how much you like it.
They say the best food is found at the hole in the wall places...well...this place did not disappoint. The food was delicious and seasoned good. However, I thought my filets should have been bigger. The daily specials are posted on a board but for the menu you have to look on Google. If you in the area, stop in and grab a plate.
If you're looking for some GOOD soul food stop by Clara's Kitchen. It is a small establishment, one some would say "hole in the wall", but well worth checking out. You can tell they've had many visitors over the years...just look at the "writings on the wall." I forgot to get the ladies name behind the counter who took our order, but I want to give her a special thanks for being so kind, courteous and knowledgeable. The reason I say knowledgeable is the fact she gave us a little taste of history of the area along with our great tasting and nicely seasoned food.
Looking for fried food and GPS pulled this place bb up. I appreciated the authenticity of a kitchen cooked meal. Small place but real. Boudins were good. Red beans and rice were bland, old and a bit cold and I didn’t get my fries. Staff was very friendly and working alone so I didn’t want to bother too much since he was working hard. Not the greatest soul food I’ve ever eaten, but I’d give it another shot due to friendly staff and I’d like to try the catfish next time.
I have to say this place was skeptical when walking in but the gentleman was very friendly. The food took awhile, but was worth the wait. Tried the catfish, it needed some dipping sauce, the fries, delicious and mac and cheese was okay. I want to go back and give it another chance and try more things that other's recommended. It was very reasonably priced.
This place just ain't what it was 8 years ago, ordered from here late at night 2am which was probably my mistake I'll admit, I ordered a sausage link sandwich said it was out of stock, ordered a fish and shrimp platter only got the fish and it was the most unseasoned fish I've had from any soul food place, ordered Mac n cheese and yams as my sides with the platter I got the Mac n cheese but it was just bland, dry, and unseasoned, and instead of yams they gave me black eyed peas which I didn't ask for at all just wouldn't recommend this place to anyone who wants to go to a soul food place that actually put their time and soul into the food this place just doesn't offer any of that another reason not to eat here they literally put the food in styrofoam in the microwave which is not ok whatsoever I don't care what anyone says if you took the time to look up why it's not good to put styrofoam in the microwave they would probably quit doing it but naw I guess they trying to give their customers a side of cancer and death if they continue with all that.
Well, I was hoping that this would be my North Dallas soul food spot but unfortunately was disappointed on the first encounter. Saw Clara's restaurant on the local news recently and couldn't wait to try it since it's around my way in Denton. The food I got was ok. Catfish was decent along with the cornbread. But what really aggravated me was that there was no greens or mac and cheese available when I ordered. This was at 1pm on a Friday! How is this possible? Who dropped the ball? It doesn't matter. A total no-no when you're trying to establish customer base. These were the dishes that I really wanted to have with my catfish order. So, I would definitely recommend that the restaurant do whatever it can to keep these sides in stock. These are soul food staples. They should be taken off the full service menu if they can't be readily made available which is problematic for a soul food restaurant.
This place needs to be closed. Everything about the place looked nasty and run down. There was flys everywhere and the only worker there had only one glove on her left hand and she didn’t have a glove on her other hand. The good reviews are lying about the place or talking about an another place because this is not a good food place to take anyone. I went there on Monday with my mom and it did not look like the pictures and I was thinking the girl was going to be black since it was a soul food place but it was a white girl and it did turn me off and the place in general was a huge turn off. It wasn’t a clean place. I didn’t get anything from this place and I’ll never will.
The absolute worst food I’ve ever tried to eat! Everything was bland! The greens taste like they were cooked in pickle juice the cabbage taste like it was cooked in just water. The fries were dark brown and soggy with sugar, the fish was overcooked. Overall the two staff members were nice but the food wasn’t edible! I just donated $50 We won’t begin to talk about the oxtails! They were just sat on a bed of rice with NO gravy! Just pale meat. Don’t waste your time or money!
Order thru Uber eats order banana pudding which they did not have order greens and cabbage they did not give me in my order. boudin bites they did not have !!! Kool-aid or sweet tea THEY DID NOT HAVE! Fried pickles taste indescribably horrible. Fries taste like who done it!! And got this cheap root beer instead of my drinks. Placed order at 6:04 and received at 8:10. Just a awful experience for the amount of money spent.. I bet if I was Keith Lee they would have went all out.
I will NEVER order from this place again! The reviews were mixed so I decided to give them a try. Not only did I NOT get what I ordered, it was ALL cold and some of it tasted like it came from a can! None of the sides I ordered were in my bag, seems they just gave me what they had left! I’m allergic to dairy, so I definitely DIDNT order Mac & Cheese! And the peach cobbler was so cold it seemed it was taken from a refrigerator! So disappointing.
