Tried this place while I'm town. Went with my daughter and wife (who is the pickiest eater of all-time). Her words "best breakfast sandwich I've ever had". My daughter's and my breakfasts were equally outstanding. Love this kind of place - true small diner atmosphere, next level food and service.

The reviews were good, and we like to try little diners. I was a little skeptical based on the outside of this tiny place, but the service was great, and so was the food! Employees were on top of everything, super efficient and friendly. It turned out to be a great stop.

I had the best sandwich!! French toast with bacon,egg and cheese. I forget the name it was called. It was soooo delicious. I'm glad its four hours away! Largest frittata I’ve ever seen and I only had the halve. All the food was great and a very creative menu. If you come to Syracuse, you have to check this place out.

Even though I’m a local, it’s been a number of years since I’ve eaten here. I am staying at a hotel nearby for work and decided to get breakfast this morning and let me tell you it was amazing. I’ve never seen an omelette so big in my life it was so full of flavor. The home fries were delicious. The service was impeccable and it was not even that expensive. I need to come here more often.

One of the best breakfast places around. As a few others have mentioned, it pays to arrive early. Even if there's a wait, it is worth it! The place has a rustic feel to it. The portion sizes are huge but they offer a sharing option. Nevertheless, would recommend working-up an appetite before your visit. Finally, as for the actual dishes, my absolute favorite is their weekend special: Reese's chocolate and peanut butter waffle!

I almost drove right by this place without even noticing.... The sad thing is if you do you won't even have the opportunity to realize your regret. I've ate at far more expensive restaurants in the area, far better decorated, far more seating, better parking situation.... But you go out to eat for the food and the service and the atmosphere. It was the best food in town, it won't break the bank, and everyone is friendly and warm and helpful. I will say the menu does misdirect you a little. Right on the front it tells you you can't eat the whole frittata and to get a half...... No normal human can eat the half either and I have my doubts about the quarter, but the amount of food you bring home should feed you for up to a week depending on what size you get. Frankly I'm just sad I didn't go here sooner.

What a GEM! My husband and I were driving down from Buffalo back home to Southern MA and googled a breakfast spot along our route and couldn’t have been more pleased. My husband is a chef and a little dive like this is exactly what we love: small, impeccably attentive service, simple and delicious menu, huge portions for very little cost. We will definitely return along our trek back some time! 12/10 recommend - had better service today than we did at our $200 steak meal last night. We had a blueberry pancake to share, veggie omelet and sausage and gravy. Pancakes will blow your mind but the coffee, sausage and gravy, and omelet will also.

Great little diner in East Syracuse. Like most diners in the area, it is cash only, so don't forget your wallet. We cme in on a Saturday morning around 9:30am. Place was busy, but found a couple seats at the diner counter. There several was prompt and very friendly. Prompt coffee refills, and nice conversation. We had the two egg combo and a Frittata omelet. Food was made to order, came out relatively quickly right in front of us. Some other folks had pancakes and they are huge (bigger than a large dinner plate). Food was good. The frittata omelet is a good option if you don't want to commit to the frittatas options on the cover of the menu. Overall good meal, very decent value for the portions and quality.

Whatever other low rating said, but I think food is what's important. I ordered a frittata Omelet, the flavor of the food pops. I admit when I arrive, the shack looks a little weird, but never judge the book by its cover. I am sure when I got another chance to visit this town, I will come for the breakfast again.

They only take cash, however, the food was delicious and a big amount. Don’t be fooled by the looks of this place. It was small and looks a bit out dated but the food and service were both great. The place is clean and they cooke the food in front of you. It’s nice to see what is being used and how your food is prepared.

My favorite place for breakfast...the photo is of my most delicious Mother Doubler/w potatoes. A most flavorful and satisfying meal. What is more iconic than Smores during Summer time. Well, Mother's Cubbard has done it again. This glorious stack of Smores pancakes was not only a delight to the eye but the taste buds as well. Perfect when paired with a cup of their black coffee.

I’ve been meaning to try Mother’s Cupboard for a long time and only recently was able to get around to it. I have to say it was one of the best breakfasts I’ve had in the Syracuse area, with the frittata omelette I ordered being absolutely massive and delicious. I can usually finish an omelette no problem but this one was bigger than most! The coffee was great as well as the service. This is one of the better breakfast spots in the area in my opinion, and I’ve tried many of them.

Loved this place! As soon as you walk in you are greeted by warm and friendly staff, you instantly feel at home. Very very generous portions, 2 adults and one child shared a Philly cheese steak with the works and a full serving of their delicious fries, and we couldn't finish 1/2 of the fries or our half of the Philly. My first time there and it definitely WON'T be the last! Oh, and did I mention that their prices are extremely reasonable, our meal and drinks, less than $20

Pulled in the parking lot & I knew I had just found the right place. The Food was out of this world, Staff was super friendly & Quick. Hats off to Pete on the grille, he really is slinging it. Delicious, large portions, friendly staff. It's obvious why it is popular. Will definitely visit again. One of the most cramped bathrooms I've ever seen. It isn't even necessarily notably small, just arranged so you have to sit sideways on the toilet and you can wash your hands while seated.

This is the rare holy trinity - cheap, good, plentiful. On top of that it's fast! If you go, bring cash. Mothers cupboard is already a bit of a local legend, and for good reason. The place is famous for the size of everything and the small price you pay for it. Having eaten here and limped out of the restaurant I can confirm it's all true - you can expect to eat here and be full all day for just a few dollars.

Delicious! Half frittata is a ton to eat... brought half home, and I can usually eat a fair amount! This breakfast burger special was amazing, onion jam, maple bacon with a kick of spice from chipotle mayo. So much food! Would definitely highly recommend!

Known for the "Whole Fritata ", you better bring your appetite. Adam Richman from TV's Food Network came here for the whole Fritata challenge. Food is cooked to order right in front of you. If you’re a sandwich person, the MacMother is the best sausage egg cheese on bun I’ve ever tasted. Prices are reasonable, total was $20.75 not including tip. I was greeted upon entry and politely helped. Seating is very very limited inside. We ate outside because we had the dog but there are trees at edge of parking lot for some shade. I felt safe here and will definitely come back next time in town. Spouse has been coming here for 20 years and it’s always been good and delicious.

This lil hole in the wall diner served me the best breakfast I’ve ever had. I saw a whole frittata and asked which size it was. I thought half that size would be good. Boy was I wrong! Half a frittata was still 3 pounds! I should’ve ordered a 1/4. And wow is it affordable! 3 pound frittata was $15! It was soooo good! I’ll be planning trips to NY just to come back here. It’s one man cooking everything behind the counter and he’s a master! We watched him in amazement as we waited for our food. The place is very tiny and a little cramped but they make it work. It adds to the charm. The staff didn’t miss a beat. It was like they were dancing as they ducked under eachother and twirled around people to avoid knocking them down. These people are experts at their trade. Tip well and bring cash!

This is one of the best hidden gems of the Syracuse area! The exterior is unassuming and the place itself is kind of hidden so you need to truly know what you’re looking for to find it. When we went, it was the brunch rush so there was about a 15 minute wait, which is absolutely worth it! Just a word of warning: when people say they have large portions, they aren’t exaggerating. The whole frittata here is 6lbs of food for 16.95 (without cheese) and it can feed 2-3 people. They even have a challenge for it: if you can finish it in one sitting by yourself you get a t shirt and your picture on the wall of fame. The current record for fastest finish of it is around 7 minutes. Anyway, I ordered the half frittata with cheese and it was fantastic!!! It’s made up of pepperoni, sausage, eggs, green and red bell peppers, home fries and broccoli and the combination is absolute heaven! They’re extremely generous with everything too plus it’s served with your choice of bread (go for the Italian)! I was able to polish off the half frittata but for most, the quarter is more than enough good food. We also got their ridiculously huge pancake (it’s a foot across!!!) and it was, unequivocally, the best and fluffiest pancake I have ever consumed!!! Overall this place is a 5/5 and I will definitely be recommending this to anyone who is in or visiting the Syracuse area for breakfast! P.S. They’re cash only.

This place was fire!!! So delicious. I ordered a veggie omelette, I’d never seen an omelette so big in my life. We also got an order of home fries that were delicious. The burgers were out of this world too. They were family friendly, had great portion sizes, good prices. Staff were very busy but friendly. We loved that you could watch them make your food right in front of you, and you could see the mounds of potato’s in the back, so you know how fresh it was. We all left happy and full.

Tried this spot on a whim. We all found it to be delicious. That pancake did not disappoint. Daughter got a Monte Cristo no ham... She loved it. My cousin and I each got omelets... Also stuffed and huge. They were slammed and overwhelmed... But food still came fresh and hot. Got multiple coffee refills... I would love to try the loaded potato omelet next time with a splash of hot sauce.

Mother's Cupboard is a part of Syracuse. Multiple generations have stuffed their faces with giant frittatas and mounds of home fries. There's a reason this little hole-in-the-wall diner has persisted.

Great local diner! NOTE this diner is cash only. There appears to be a wait most of the time, which makes sense because there are maybe 7 tables in the whole restaurant. My group of 6 was seated fairly quickly (also note they won't seat you unless your entire party is present). I ordered an omelette that was AMAZING but very large and I couldn't finish it. They also had pancakes on their special menu that were to die for. All in all, this diner had great food, pretty good prices, and quick service. 4 stars because it's cash only and they don't have indoor restrooms.

DELISH. Wish i could give 4.5 stars. Ramshackle joint that proves the adage about beauty being only skin deep. The first time my 20 year old son & I attempted to go during a visit to Syracuse, we opted to skip it. The place is so small I had visions of knocking on a strangers porch door and asking them to feed us. Wont make that mistake again! H2 (as in my second husband) & I took the leap and ate there while in Syracuse last week. HOLY MOLY!! First of all the frittatta didn't resemble any frittata I'd ever seen, and the flavor- POW!! - certainly surpassed any other, including my own very solid creations. Servings are huge, he barely made it through a half order, even with my help. My waffle was solid, the gold star for serving real maple syrup lost a bit of its luster since the syrup was straight from the frig. I ordered a side of sausage, very little spark there. In all fairness, not sure what could stand up to the gloriousness of that frittatta!

Food was great, portions are HUGE, price was low. We got their World class Frittata ( only the half size beits enormous)The wait staff and cooks were working their butts off to get people served in a timely manner. Not an eloquentway to say it, but they were seriously running. Everything was REAL food, fresh not frozen or processed. The only negative was that the place was a little dirty and run down. Could use a little sprucing up. ;) however one does not go to a dinner for ambiance. If you want good, fresh, down home cooking for a great price THIS is your place :D

Hailing from Niagara Falls I have high standards when it comes to local diners. I was spoiled with The Why Coffee Shop back home; with its extremely low prices and excessive portions, it's my favorite place to grab an early morning meal. Having a picky girlfriend also adds to the challenge of finding a breakfast joint that will satisfy both of our needs. Luckily a few weeks ago we found this place and have just been back the second time. The menu selection is quite expansive for such a small place. With specials that vary from day to day and great combo deals, I could order something different for a whole year if I went weekly. Being open until 1:30 pm they also offer a small lunch selection which only adds to the possibilities. The prices are not as low as The Why, but they're definitely very competitive, and my stingy senses remain inactive as I scan the menu. The food that I've experienced at Mother's Cupboard has been phenomenal. Most recently I ordered the red velvet waffle, which was a special. It was super delicate and light, topped with fresh nuts and a cream cheese topping. I'm normally not a "sweets for breakfast" person, but I would order this again in a heartbeat. Last time I order the biscuits and gravy which from what I recall was quite good. The perfect savory way to start your day. My girlfriend doesn't eat eggs, but ordered hers over medium so I could enjoy them. They were properly cooked to the point where I'd like to take lessons from the chefs in egg preparation. Both of us had the potatoes at some point and they were quite delicious. Perfectly seasoned and tender, and a great way to transport Frank's hot sauce into my mouth. The service has been very friendly and helpful during our two visits. The frequency of regulars that chat with the staff is a great sign that the employees are friendly as well. The only unfortunate part of this small local diner is that... well... it's small! There are about maybe about 8 tables and then a counter to sit at. They even brandish a sign out front that says they are worth the wait (they definitely are). Both times I've been there we did not have a wait, and we even spilt a table with another party this past visit. With such a lack of space I can see that if it's truly busy, there would be a very long wait. Altogether I would strongly recommend this diner as the premiere location to get a good breakfast at a good price in the great city Syracuse.

This little diner is cash only, and they do not have an ATM. But you aren't going to need a lot of money to leave here full. We got the whole frittata and the two eggs with half pound of home fries with turkey bacon. The frittata is massive and with cheese is under $20. It lasted me for the whole day. The only downside here is that the seasoning is very plain and is the same on everything.

The blonde high ponytail waitress was really rude. She talked down to us as soon as we arrived by swinging her finger above our head pointing at us and asked her coworkers where she should “put” us instead of seating us. Then she took 10 minutes to take our order, she took 2 other companies (who arrived after us) orders first. She approached us like she was doing us a favor to take our order by saying “have you guys been helped?” Then when she was taking our orders, she stood really close to my boyfriend and called him honey every time and when I had to order, she continued to stand next to him and just looked at me coldly and said “you?” I spoke to the manager who was the older lady who was also serving. She apologized for her staff’s rude behavior and gave $4.25 discount. We did not want some less than $5 discount. She should have made hat rude waitress apologize and stay out of our sight until we left. Foods were mediocre honestly. And as the person who purposefully searched and went for good home made foods, it was very disappointing. Maybe the place is popular due to the manager’s connections with the locals but the overall, the place is really cramped and crowded and it could be better. Not sure if i will return. I would give 0 star if i can but the manager was at least genuinely apologetic.

Stopped by on a Wednesday noon for a late breakfast. Asked for a breakfast burger- rare. Came mid well. Also greasy as hell to eat, and very little flavor.

I was very excited to try this place, I am honestly surprised with the review I am giving it. We were not expecting cash only, not a big deal, had to go get cash. The long wait to be seated in a very small booth, again we knew it was a small place so not really too big of a deal. But the service wasn't amazing, they were a bit all over and we had to request a few things more than once. That could be due to the constant flow of people, but I did expect better service. What I really expected was a better quality of food, this place has some amazing reviews which talk it up, but my food wasn't nearly that amazing. I really wanted to be wowed by this place but even going to the bathroom was awkward, a walk down a wobbly set of stairs to an extremely small bathroom. The only real plus side was the quantity of food for the price. So, if you are looking for a large amount of food that is just okay and doesn't cost too much, this place will work.

I have edited my review to 1 star- not because of the food or the service but because on Friday around 10 AM 12/5 I witnessed a male (likely in a supervisor role) VERBALLY ABUSE his female servers. He was swearing at them, berating them in front of customers and using sexist language. I want to support the women who work there but after seeing that I really question this establishment- what I witnessed was not okay by any means. I hope they address this person because it was so heartbreaking to hear.
