December 2024 We were there on Christmas Eve, the team couldn’t have been more helpful efficient and friendly. The food was delicious. We were there for the last sitting. It would have been understandable if they tried to rush us (being Christmas Eve), they didn’t. There is a lovely atmosphere among the team. The best I’ve ever come across. The new Gables has added hugely to Foxrock Village. It's welcoming exterior is equalled by the fabulous interior. It's great place to go for a coffee/drink and/or meal out. I have eaten dinner and brunch a few times and can recommend. I have always found the staff to be friendly courteous and efficient. The food is delicious. Good food cocktail and Wine menus.
My elderly mother and I dropped in here early Monday evening for a light meal and a lovely cappuccino. The Gables staff and our waiter Ross were so welcoming. There was a lovely atmosphere building as regulars came in for their meal. The decor is so cosy and makes you want to relax there for hours.
Myself and my mum finally tried the newly renovated Gables. We just came for a few drinks on Sunday. The staff were very attentive, one waiter made sure to clear the tables of the rainwater and then he came back quickly with our drinks. We got a gin and tonic and a whiskey sour to start. You can order any cocktail you like. But a list on the drinks menu would be nice too. After that we ordered 2 glasses of wine. The rose was lovely and the glasses are very cool. The decor is aesthetically pleasing and the high top chairs are so comfy.
Had a very very late start to the day but they still squeezed us in for brunch, such lovelies! The food hit the spot. The vibes are elegant and classy. Sat in the outdoor covered area and that was comfortable and warm for an incredibly windy and cold Feb day. Ended with some coffee and a hot chocolate. Would love to come here every weekend if I could.
Absolutely stunning meal. The staff were so friendly. I had the Chicken, Bacon Waffles. Perfect combination of Sweet, Savoury & Spicy. Lovely options on the menu too. Highly recommend.
I had lunch today from the new menu, a Cajun chicken wrap with chips. absolutely delicious, I'm still thinking about it.. going back again soon... yum. Staff as lovely and friendly as ever, always feel so welcome.
My recent visit for Sunday brunch was nothing short of remarkable. The restaurant’s glass terrace, bathed in natural light, creates a serene atmosphere that transports you to a vacation-like state of mind, making it the perfect setting for a leisurely meal with friends. The ambiance struck a beautiful balance between elegance and comfort, and the service was attentive without being intrusive. As for the food, each dish was a testament to the chef’s careful attention to detail, with fresh ingredients and a thoughtful presentation that elevated the experience. In all, this restaurant masterfully combines atmosphere and culinary excellence, making it a must-visit for anyone seeking a memorable brunch spot. Highly recommended.
Very friendly staff. Atmosphere and decor is stunning. Food was well presented, good portions and more importantly tasty. Will defo return.
Great food, great staff and very reasonable, really nice atmosphere too!
Outstanding bistro / restaurant, helpful and kind staff
Love the Gables and have been many times - for an after work drink, a cheeseboard, or a full meal - always delicious, with great service and good atmosphere.
We've been here so many times now and I have never had a bad experience. The staff are lovely and so professional. The menu is extensive, caters to many and is changed fairly often. The atmosphere and ambience is always great. We often dine with someone who has a disability and they are always treated so well here, with their needs taken into account. This place is a real gem.
Well worth a visit. Lovely lunch and dinner menu....and competitively priced. Service was efficient and friendly and the atmosphere of the restaurant is relaxed and cosy. We had lunch. Toasted sandwiches and quality coffee's. There is a nice outside area too for sunnier days.
Me and my wife have become regulars here for lunch - great atmosphere and decor. The food never lets down
Had a fabulous meal with my family last night. Food, atmosphere and service were brilliant. Ailbhe our waiter made us feel we were the only table in the restaurant, she was so attentive!! The Rhubarb Crumble to end the evening was to die for!!!
1st time to visit, won't be the last Went for a late lunch. Our visit started with a great welcome at the door they had seats available, so no wait. Our waitress was so nice and friendly. Food came relatively quickly and was as described on the menu, plus it was really, really good quality and tasted great. 4th time to visit now, no change on the above. Such a great spot. Great venue will be back.
We stopped off for a glass of wine and a plate to share and so glad we did. Alva looked after us and just couldn't have been nicer or more helpful. Really lovely. Food was scrum and Alva was really helpful with remmendations for what we may enjoy. Will definitely be back soon
We went at the wkd for breakfast. The food was good, I had the green gable. Nice touch with the halloumi cheese. The mocha was perfect. The bad thing we experienced was ,even though there were only a few people in the restaurant, the staff seemed slow. They forgot to bring the butter to our table. We had to ask for it. When it finally came it was frozen . Then I asked for honey , the staff said he was going to check if they had at the kitchen but he never came back to bring the honey . We finished our meal and the butter was still hard as rock. But overall it was ok.
Very nice pub food and good service. A small menu but perfect for a midweek dinner.
Booked for a special birthday dinner. Food was good for most of our party but my steak was overcooked. Told waiter but nothing more was said as I didnt want to return it & eat on my own! Service was poor. Overall disappointed!
Lovely lunch, staff excellent and food very good
Fantastic atmosphere, good food but shocking service. We had a wonderful night as it was all family but not what one would want generally.
It's was nice with decent menu and they didn't rush us out. A little expensive for adult menu. Kids were ok.
The food was delicious, very tasty. One person had duck, and another had the vegan options. The atmosphere was ideal, not too noisy but still a nice atmosphere. We ate outside in the extension. It was warm with the heat lamps and nice and bright. The service was perfect. My one issue was when the girl brought the bill. I looked it over and was satisfied by it, but there was no mention of a service charge, which was added on later. It is not the fact that I paid a service charge it's the fact that it was hidden/added to my bill after the fact that I have a problem with it and it left a bad taste in my mouth after a very pleasant lunch. Other than that, I enjoyed the day.
Food was very good overall. Service was a little slow and it wasn't overly busy (we had to reserve at 1015am) despite being 90% empty at the time of arrival. Reason for 3/5 on service - one of our party had ordered fries on the side, they were forgotten until we had all finished (despite us reminding server). - out of some juices in the morning - a little abrupt with taking orders and then not knowing who ordered what on arrival. Value pretty decent for 4 of us and the food was good.
Nice setup in Fox Rock village. In good weather the outside covered terrace is great. Decent menu, covers most needs, a bit on the heavy side though, most dishes come with chips. Prices are reasonable, not cheap, but what you would expect for a restaurant in the area. I have been there before, and would go again
The staff are brilliant, such a laugh and oh so professional. The food is amazing, atmosphere always feels happy. My only issue, teeny tiny is I couldn't seem to get an americano with oat milk that didn't curdle. We tried a few times with different variables, but alas, no coffee
Service was terrible. Staff were more interested in chatting to each other for long periods than being attentive to guests. We cut short our meal as we just could not wait any longer for Service. Place was nice but I absolutely will not be returning
We’ve been regular customers at The Gables for quite a while and have always enjoyed the food and warm service, especially from one particular waiter who is consistently friendly and professional. However, our recent visit was disappointing. The waiter who initially served us seemed rushed and impatient from the moment we sat down. We felt under pressure to order almost immediately, before we had a chance to read the menu. Dietary questions were handled without much care, and a drinks order was missed entirely. Unfortunately, this left us feeling like an inconvenience rather than welcome guests, even though the restaurant wasn’t particularly busy. I emailed the restaurant afterward to share our experience. While I appreciated the polite response, the focus was more on defending the staff member than acknowledging how the situation came across from our side as customers. This isn’t typical of our previous visits, which is why the contrast stood out so much. Hopefully it was just an off day, and we’ll give it another try — but it was a disappointing experience for a place we’ve usually really enjoyed.
Usually have a lovely time here. Last night was disappointing. One table where loud and had too much to drink and been very vulgar (can't blame the restaurant for this? We where asked to give back our table before we where offered desserts, this was 45 mins in ton out arrival Our bill came and have the items where not charged for. When we explained and asked for correct bill there was additional drinks and food added. After 20 mins bill was resolved. Personally I feel the restaurant was over booked and staff could not function . Definitely won't be going back here on a Saturday night gor a while
I was disappointed, the “prawn” green curry had 2 pieces of super small shrimp and it costs 27 euro. The beef fillet steak which was 40 dollars was so small (it was good but very overpriced). We were happy with the halibut but still very small portions. The pasta was the only dish we were very pleased with.
Good community restaurant. You may find there locals and visitors, those who dress up to eat there and those who come with jeans and t-shirt. Everyone is welcome. The food was tasty. The friend I went with ordered fish and chips and liked it. As I don't eat fish, I wanted the steak but there was only a big chunk, so I decided to order the schnitzel. It tasted good but done with a lot of oil. Before eating the it, I put a napkin on it to absorb some of the oil. Bottom line: good place to eat. Make sure to have reservations, otherwise you may not get in.
Very disappointed with the vegetarian options. Slow service and the food was pretty poor for the price. Not great, wouldn't go back.
We went to the Gables restaurant recently on Sunday and we were very disappointed with the quality and quantity of the food that previously used to be delicious and a proper good portion. The chicken Snitzel size incredibly small and tasteless , the fried chips was too dry and burnt. I hope we won’t be disappointed the next time if we decide to dine there again and certainly things have to be improved and back to the way it used to be for such expensive dishes.
Had brunch at The Gables and tried the Egg Norwegian. Unfortunately, it was a below-average dish — quite dry, and the poached eggs were overcooked. Service was only average, nobody checked on us during our meal, and I was waiting for someone’s attention just to order a glass of water. There was an unpleasant smell and a sticky floor in the ladies’ toilet, which made the place feel poorly maintained. Definitely not the high-standard spot you’d expect.
When ordering, I asked the server if I could have the beef as rare as possible, hoping they might be able to carve some from the center. The server explained that the beef was already roasted and only served one way, which I accepted. However, when it arrived, it had been sliced and then aggressively seared on both sides, making it tough as old boots. A real shame because you could tell the beef itself was high quality. Oh well—if I return, I’ll be skipping the roast dinner.
Too overpriced prawn = strimp dessert cost 20 dollars
Went for coffee and scones with a group of friends. The waiter was just plain rude. We were not there for breakfast or lunch so we were not welcome! When my friend asked for a second pat of butter for her scone, she was told she couldn't have one until she had finished the first pat. Later another member of staff was asked for the pat of butter and brought two bowls full of butter and plonked them on the table. We were definitely made to feel that we were a nuisance rather than paying customers. We will think twice before choosing this venue again.
This place has really gone downhill with new ownership. It used to be such a gorgeous local spot, now the atmosphere is cold and contentious with ill mannered staff. Avoid.
Dreadful unfortunately. Very slow service. Next to no vegetarian options. Paid extra to have pasta without chicken. Falafel main would struggle to feed a mouse. Live quite locally so was hoping for much better so we could return often. Avoid.
The best comparison to make for the full Irish, is to what is served at an express hotel. Not fresh, dried out, all seems to have been precooked bar the eggs, which weren't served how I had requested anyway. Also, I'd be hard pushed to find another place that serves a full Irish with only a single sausage. Coffees took 30mins to arrive, halfway through breakfast. With regards covid setup, there are seats in the restaurant that have a shared back, meaning you can be back to back with someone else by about 1.5 feet. They have implemened an entry - exit door one way system. As I was leaving, I had to step back to allow a senior staff member to come in the exit door. I won't be returning and would advise others the same based on my experience around, food quality, covid safety management and slow service.
Our family's recent brunch reservation for six was deeply unsatisfactory. Despite a booking made over a month in advance, upon arrival, four of us found our table inappropriately arranged. While awaiting the arrival of two late family members, a staff member reduced the table size, creating an uncomfortable seating arrangement for six. Although we voiced our concerns and requested management intervention, no action was taken beyond a promise of relocation to another table, a promise that was never fulfilled. Furthermore, our food and beverage orders were taken, yet no one checked on our satisfaction or addressed the seating issue. My mother and I received incorrect orders, and the pancakes were subpar—dry, barely warm, and clearly not freshly made. The bacon, an unordered addition, was inedible. Even the coffee was lukewarm. This substandard service, lack of follow-up, and overall poor experience significantly detracted from our family Christmas brunch. The inadequate staff training and planning resulted in a disappointing event. We will not be returning.
