Food was amazing. I’ve never went inside, my husband always goes, but their food is excellent. I’ve had the rib plate, chicken plate and the brisket plate before all well seasoned .
We had Austin BBQ & Catering at our sports banquet last year & they were very professional & friendly! Food was delicious & we can't wait to have them back this year!!! 5 Star for sure!!! Michele Vacek Weimar Athletic Booster Club
Yum! Been a favorite of mine since I was young. They make their sausages and smoke them themselves. So delicious. The rice salad is good too.
This is one of my top 3 places for bbq brisket at #2. But you have to hurry before they run out for the day. It’s that good!!!
We moved out of Eagle Lake almost 18 years ago and sometimes we go back just to eat brisket, ribs, and their bar b q sauce. They should have a better place to dine in though, but any ways we Love the food.
I used to visit everything I had the chance with my parents, my Grandparents lived there. I loved their sausage and ribs, I believe it was the Brothers that ran it at the time. I went to School with Dwayne and Denise when my Dad was overseas, that whole year I enjoyed the weekends because my Grandpa would always plan to have this one of a kind sausage. I have traveled the whole world being in the Marine Corps, whenever I went into a country who sold sausages with their meals. I had to reach so deep into my imagination that I was chowing down on Mr. Austin’s sausages, but as usual I couldn't reach that deep and it was more a nightmare taste than what I was hoping for. I did my 32 years in my beloved Corps and I do plan to stop by soon from California and visit Austin’s again. I truly miss that taste of good BBQ from Austin’s. I’ll see you soon Dwayne and Denise if you are still running that outstanding BBQ Store.
When ever I go visit my in-laws in Eagle Lake TX I always stop to get some good ol ribs but this time I had the chopped beef Frito pie. You must try it. Also there ribs are good. They don't sell baked potatoes but they do have what is called potato topper which is a bunch of red potatoes with the works...don't knock it til you try it.
I was impressed the food was very good. The organization behind the counter of filling orders and smiling faces. This place is worth the stop.
Stopped by on a road trip for a quick bite. Ordered two sandwiches, one chopped sausage another sliced beef. Super quick and friendly. Sauce is a bit sweet for my taste but the meats are great. Will stop on this route again.
Since my arrival in Texas I have sampled a lot of Texas BBQ, and it's all good. But Austin's BBQ in Eagle Lake stands out from the rest. Their brisket is tender and juicy, smoked to perfection. But what does it for me is their sausage. Each bite is just an explosion of flavor in your mouth. Then there are the deserts. The Pecan Pie, the Buttermilk Pie, and the Banana Pudding are all indescribably delicious. it's abundantly clear that the good people who run the place go to considerable effort to make their food as good as it can possibly be.
Caught them at the end of the day. The guys were awesome. The food was delicious and the service was great. You should DEFINITELY stop in and try their sausage. Yeah, I said it. Do it.
Excellent choices of different cuts of meat, poultry and sausage. Very nice addition of outside and new inside sitting area! Highly recommend.
Picked up three dozen wings for a snack before the big game.

The food was outstanding! It's a small hole in the hall place, but absolutely worth trying. The sausage and brisket were better than most places that I've ever had!
One of the top 2 best briskets we've had on this Texas road trip. Moist, smokey and just plain delicious. Turkey also a hit but a bit on the salter side. Friendly service - really nice folks. When I am back in the area, will definitely come back.
Excellent barbecue and the friendliest workers. Love it!
There were bones in my chicken😋. Besides that the chicken was very well flavored barbecue sauce, it is super delicious and the butter potatoes taste great very nice establishment made for on the go pickups but they do have a seating area and they keep their facility very clean. I highly recommend you stop by on your way through. ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
Used to stop at Austin's every week back when I used to haul gravel...so did all the other rock buckets, trucks parked everywhere. Back then they were only open Thur - Sat. Anyway, brisket, ribs, chicken, everything was always great. My goto was a sliced beef sandwich and 1/4 lb of ribs to eat on the go!
Austin’s BBQ and Catering is delicious. It’s more than a great joint, though. Austin’s remains a really important caterer to the local community; it consistently upholds its values of delicious meals locally prepared and timely delivered. Mr. Austin would be proud of Austin’s continued quality.
This place was voted one of Texas best BBQs and you can believe it! It’s your typical roadside Texas BBQ stop with the smokers out front going full bore….the brisket and turkey were amazing…service was quick and friendly. I highly recommend this place and I will be back again!

Home style BBQ. Brisket was better than most. The jalapeno sausage was great. For dessert the banana pudding is highly recommended.
Pretty good, but it's hard to comment on the brisket because it got doused with sauce even though I didn't ask for sauce. That's a no-no for Texas BBQ in my opinion. The brisket nachos and chopped beef baked potato were good. I'd say that it was good enough that I'll stop there again next time I'm in Eagle Lake, but I'll know to tell them no sauce!
Loved the brisket and green beans. Especially like that the green beans did not have a heavy tomato component and that the beans seemed fresh. Brisket did not have a lot of wood flavor (I usually like a little more), but it was cooked to perfection and very good. There really isn't a lot of seating here, but we took our food to the nearby park and ate there.
If you're not from Texas there's a good chance you'll like this BBQ. The meat is tender, the setting is perfectly quaint, and the staff were great. The BBQ sauce almost tasted like it was a mistake and was the biggest disappointment. The meat tasted like it was smoked with just charcoal as I couldn't decipher and wood in the flavor. I'll be coming back to see if they were just having an off day.
The chopped beef frito pie was an interesting twist on an old tried and true. The chicken breast had excellent texture and simple spices. Their sauce was too much tomato and not enough vinegar for my preference. The spicy beans were excellent.
While not on the same level as the Texas giants, Austin’s is a good local spot. Theres no indoor dining, so that’s hurting them. The staff was friendly. I got brisket tacos, and they heated the tortillas on the pit prior to serving which gave them a smoky crispiness that added a nice dimension. Overall above average, and I would stop again if passing through!

Stopped in for a bbq sandwich, Cole slaw and of course, Banana Pudding! I give them thumbs up definitely. Great sauce, good meat, simple but very good Cole slaw. The banana pudding takes the cake!! Must try some

Had the beef plate with coleslaw and pinto beans. The beef was tender but a little too salty for me. I didn't care for the bbq sauce. I don't know if the salt was coming from the beef or sauce. The pinto beans were a little salty. They weren't spicy or too heavily seasoned. I liked them this way. The coleslaw was ok. It wasn't creamy if that's what you like.
Ok let's slow down on this being the " best bbq in Texas" lol. It is decent bbq that's it. I stop there frequently. The brisket nachos and brisket frito pie are my go to. The jalepeno cheddar sausage is good the rest is ok. It is worth a stop it is not Franklin's or Pinkertons or Tejas or the several dozen better places sprinkled around the state.
Like it the food was good first time traying it .. the meat was really soft nice flavor ... i wana go back again but they only need like some umbrella or something outside
Traveling back to San Antonio we wanted some bbq after coming from a 6 day boat cruise. We always like to try hole in wall places. Austin's BBQ came up on our search and off the main road. From the outside everything looked impressive, even from the first step inside. We let the lady know it was our first time here. No "thank you for stopping, no - how did you hear back us, no - explanation of service". We ordered and both our plates were smothered with bbq sauce. We couldn't even taste the real flavor of the meats. Service was not the greatest and neither was the food. Sorry. #bigbensreviews #realtorfoodies

Chicken half was over coomed and had been under the warmer so long it was nearly all dried out and unpalatable. Sides were unseasoned, buttered potatoes were dry. This place used to be one of our treats through Eagle Lake. Something has definitely changed. Don't think we will be coming back.
Austin's Bar-B-Q in Eagle Lake operates two offset trailer smokers at an old gas station property in the center of town. Sausage and brisket were the only meats available at the time of our arrival, so we had a little of each. The sausage had good flavor and texture. We had been looking forward to the brisket based on past reviews by others, but we'll have to write it off this time as just being too early/not done.
I wanted to take a trip to LJ's, in Brenham, because a friend recommended their awesome BBQ. Nothing really worked out like it was supposed to and as we got out on the road we realized that we weren't going to make it there on time. I had read that Austin's was a really good BBQ joint so we made a detour to give it a try. My wife, kids, and I arrived with semi-high expectations. We were fairly disappointed. All of us ordered brisket and sausage, and had sides of green beans and potato salad (there weren't many choices). Our brisket was ok, but drowned in a not very good BBQ sauce. I assume it would have been a decent brisket without it, but we'll never know. The sausage and sides were also ok, but fairly disappointing considering our original destination. I would rather stay in town and get BBQ from Rudy's or Pappas, which are about in the same price range but not as far of a drive. I would probably have also enjoyed a Buc-ees chopped brisket sandwich, which is right next door, more than Austin's.
Ribs and brisket were drowning in sauce. The sauce covered up how dry and flavorless the meats were. The rice and macaroni salads need more Miracle Whip. Both were dry
My husband and I was driving three eagle lake and was hungry so we decided to stop and try this place. It’s a very small building, we ordered two plates for $ 30 dollars no drinks.Brisket didn’t really have taste and chicken was okay. They had potato salad but I just didn’t care about it due to the fact that it had onions everytime you bit into it.The pinto beans no flavor, the only thing was good was the sausage. We tried it but wouldn’t go back.

Got a couple of dry, sliced fat sandwiches as we were passing thru the area. I've heard they had good sandwiches and they have mostly good reviews... our experience was not favorable. $10.95 for a sliced beef sandwich and they were inedible. I forced my dry, chewy sandwich down because I was really hungry but the wife wouldn't even touch hers. Disappointed
28 a pound for sliced beef fatty ends are hit or miss depending on what day you go for 30 a pound you'd think they'd at least give you some bread and sauce; but they charge for both i think it's like .50 per bread slice, and about 2 for the smallest sauce

Ordered a sliced beef sandwich on Wednesday (surprised they were open...maybe the Holidays?) and asked for sauce on side as I did not want to eat it right away...no problem and sandwich was very good. On way back thru town Thursday I did the same. When paying out, it was $3 more than the day before. I asked why and was told it was because the cost of sauce on the side...was told by the bi#ch at the register that that is how they did it. I told them to put it on the sandwich...I could eat it messy for 3 bucks. Said I would not be back...again the bi#ch said they would not miss me. Adios. Food may be good, but the hired help can cut the attitude and for that they lost a customer.
Last time I was there, was over a year ago. That time and the time before, the brisket was dry and tasteless. They had flys buzzing around and it just appeared dirty and not a good place to eat. Much better food at Mikeska's in Colombus.
The last few times we ordered chicken it all dried and overcook, crematory style. Worst chicken I have ever had. I’ll go to Vincek’s in East Bernard from now on.
Ordered 2 pounds of brisket and 2 pounds of sausage for guests coming over for dinner. Should have checked order before I left there. Brisket was all fat and I had ask for mostly lean. Very embarrassing!!!!!
The Food Was On Par With Buccees BBQ, however the lady that rushed us to pick a sandwich combo, well she should learn to listen instead of trying to hurry up a customer, we will not be back, also we were the only people in line, and we had a choice and will not be back.
Bought 2 rib plates. When we got home opened them and there were only 2 ribs in each plate. Pretty sad to only receive 2 ribs for the amount they charged. Most places give you at least 3 ribs. Don’t think they will be getting our business anymore.
Was traveling from Hallettsville to Sugar Land, had my 9 yo daughter who read all of the reviews and was excited to stop in for lunch. We stopped at 1:30 PM on a Sunday and they were closed. My daughter wanted to give zero stars but that option was not available.
Ordered a baked potato with chopped beef. It was such a poor excuse of a baked potato that they should take it off their menu. Meat tasted like it was frozen store bought and it wasn't even a baked potato it was left over potatoes with some meat slapped on top.
If I could put 1 star I would. Austin’s BBQ is a rip off bought a baked potato in a sandwich tray for $18 bucks and then had the audacity to ask the guy to weigh it and she forgot my sour cream. I’m so disappointed.

Never again. Dirty, run down, unsanitary place. BBQ has ZERO flavor. No selection. Employees ignore you. $25 for 1 person to get a main, 1 side and a drink. Do yourself a favor and get a fake Buc-ees BBQ sandwich, chips and a drink for a fraction of the cost. Hell, get some frozen meals from the dollar stores next door. Better yet, just keep driving.
Review for Austin BBQ – Eagle Lake, Texas I’ve supported Austin BBQ in Eagle Lake for a while, but my recent experience left me deeply disappointed. It’s troubling to see a business benefit from the hard work and revenue of immigrant customers, yet still allow openly disrespectful comments to be made—such as saying, “If he’s here illegally, he’s got to go.” Regardless of anyone’s background, every customer deserves basic respect and decency. Hearing statements like that creates an unwelcoming atmosphere and makes it clear that not everyone is valued the same once they walk through those doors. I believe businesses should treat all members of the community fairly, especially when they rely on that same community for support. I hope Austin BBQ reflects on how their words and actions impact the people who keep their doors open. Respect should be as much a part of the service industry as the food.
