A wide selection of beer taps and a great pop up food menu. We were there for the subs and salads, had great chicken wings. The Guinness was poured well!
I cannot believe this place passed under my radar for so long! I walk in and there’s a delightful regular at the bar with his adorable dog, which is immediately a good sign. The atmosphere is playful and comfortable with lots of colour, small lights, and a kind of updated retro style. The staff were polite and attentive, with warm smiles all around. Their outdoor garden felt wonderfully secluded and decked out with comfy cushions and greenery. There was even a cat hanging about! The whole vibe felt very relaxed and enjoyable. I was so impressed with the place I forgot to take many photos but I will definitely be back to remedy that — looking to make it my local now!
Such a beautiful pub with an amazing beer garden! the staff are very friendly and welcoming i would highly recommend
Fantastic food, great atmosphere. We sat outside and it's a lovely little sun trap.
Stopped in here on the way home. A beautifully presented pub. We had lunch and were pleasantly greeted by a fancy new menu with some delicious food. Can reccomend the 'Carne ASADA Fries'. Everything was great, do yourself a favour and get down here!
Nice bar , attentive bar staff and great choice of whiskey. Beer garden with canvas roof and surrounded with walls to keep the wind away, also have heaters for the chilly nights. Good choice of background music.
My partner and I have been here twice in the last few weeks, and it was fantastic on both occasions! Hannah served us the 2nd time, and she was absolutely lovely. Love their approach to sustainability with local / seasonal garnishes too. The wings, burgers & cocktails were amazing!
Had dinner (steak sandwiches and padron peppers) and drinks, all very good. Friendly staff and good atmosphere.
Superb bar and restaurant in west Edinburgh. Very good food, great range. Buttermilk chicken on waffles with mac n cheese was super; heirloom tomatoes, halloumi and strawberry was a great salad. Peanut butter espresso martini is to die for. Heartily recommended. Really good service, good vibe to the place.
Great food at great price , definitely worth a visit Freshly made so worth the wait
Such a lovely retreat from the days chaos. Staff are always happy, says a lot for their working environment. Very welcoming to dogs. Thankyou again. Marty, Davison Menswear.
Lovely spot on Morrison Street for a drink with friends. Service was quick, polite and friendly. Seating choices are comfortable and the place looks modern, plus cosy.
One of the best sandwich’s I have ever eaten!!!! #yum
Beautiful surroundings, fantastic food and friendly staff. Could not ask for more
Stopped in for a round of cocktails, lovely staff, cozy decor and great drinks would defo recommend!
Very enjoyable, atmospheric, cozy and relaxed environment - we quite enjoyed the food too!
The two bar ladies were absolutely phenomenal!! Made the experience!! Recognised us after being in it for an hour, went twice and felt at home!! The food was reasonably priced and the portions sizes were fantastic!! Shame their taps weren’t working but the female staff were more than accommodating! Highly recommend this bar, was fantastic, went two days in a row and will definitely be back!!
Friendly place with good food and drinks! My favorite part was talking with one of the regulars who come in with his dog and sits at the bar!
Great pub, staff friendly and service is excellent. Food suits the bar and makes for a nice leisurely catch up with friends.
**PRIVATE WEDDING PARTY** We eloped to Canada and always intended on celebrating with a post-elopement party for our closest friends and family. After searching for the perfect venue, we found The Blackbird, and from the moment we stepped inside, we knew it was the one. Setting: The Blackbird is truly a gem. The layout is spacious, offering a variety of areas for our guests to mingle and enjoy themselves. The highlight for us was the beautiful beer garden, which provided a relaxed atmosphere for everyone to gather, play beer pong, and soak up the sun. We were *SO* impressed by the venue's flexibility; Ali, Jack and the team were incredibly accommodating, allowing us to rearrange furniture and customize the space to match our vision. They genuinely wanted to help us create the best experience possible, and it showed. Food: The food was nothing short of spectacular! Our guests raved about it, many declaring it the best wedding food they had ever had! The kitchen staff was fantastic, addressing all dietary requirements with ease and creativity. It was just what we needed to keep the energy up and the celebrations flowing throughout the night! Staff: One of the standout aspects of our experience was the team at The Blackbird. Ali, Jack, and everyone else were incredibly supportive and friendly. They made us feel at ease from the start, always ready to answer our questions and handle any last-minute requests. Their positive attitude and willingness to help created a relaxed atmosphere that allowed us to truly enjoy our celebration without stress. We feel so lucky to have chosen The Blackbird as the venue for our special night. It set the perfect backdrop for an unforgettable evening filled with laughter and joy. Our guests, from the youngest to the oldest, had an amazing time, and we received countless compliments about how fantastic the party was! We couldn't have asked for a better way to celebrate our marriage <3 THANKS THE BLACKBIRD!
Been a firm favourite for a long time, was recently in and had the buffalo wings and a burger as well as a few refreshments - gets better and better every time! Great drinks, great food, lovely staff! Would give them 6 stars if I could!
I came here solo for a drink and dinner and ended up being seated at the bar. The bar itself is a little awkward it sit at, because it's shallow and no good place to situate my leg. However Blair the bartender was excellent. He introduced me to three local gins that were delicious, and was very knowledgeable and friendly. He made my solo dinner enjoyable. Plus the rice bowl was phenomenal.... The pork perfectly crispy and fantastic blend of flavours. Def recommend this place if in Edinburgh!
Didn't have food, just drinks, quite late. Staff were very friendly, making sure we got a table quickly when it was completely packed. Will be back again I'm sure!
We hadn’t been for many years but had a great (impromptu) early evening there ; lovely staff , good bar snacks. We’ll be back!
Elite Drinks & A Moody, Gorgeous Spot! I had an Chocolate Chili Espresso—easily a 10/10! The subtle heat from the chili balanced beautifully with the bitterness of the espresso and the richness of the chocolate. Not too sweet, just perfect! I’m honestly coming back just for this. Of course, I couldn’t stop at one, so I also tried a Spicy Margarita, and it was delish—easy to drink, with the perfect balance of spice and tang! My partner went for an Innis & Gunn Lager, a classic choice that never disappoints. Since it was Friday Eve and getting a bit lively, we grabbed some food to take away: • Bang Bang Chicken Sandwich (£13) – 4/10 The mango chutney and shredded cos made it a bit too sweet for my liking, though the fried buttermilk chicken itself was really good! • Spice Bag with Pulled Korean Ribs (£12) – 9/10 Pulled pork ribs, fries, Korean BBQ sauce, and pickled chillies—loved this! The flavors were spot on, but the paper bag made it a bit soggy by the time we got home. We’ll definitely be back for the drinks! The staff was lovely, and the whole place had such a moody, gorgeous vibe. Can’t wait to visit again!
Pub looking place little bit down to street. Had a fine food and beer was good. Although, bear in mind that pictures and reviews in Google maps are outdated, i noticed that when came there. Not sure is it even same bar/restaurant anymore, bit mixed information. Different menu, it’s mains are sandwiches. Good ones though.
We arrived without a reservation to a busy restaurant but the staff managed to make room for us. We ordered a cocktail and a burger each. I ordered the the made in Japan cocktail, which had a nice citrus flavour but lacked in whisky for my taste. My girlfriend ordered a raspberry and ginger beer mocktail which had a sharp initial taste and a sweet ginger beer finish. The chicken burger was okay, a little dry and not very crispy, but the beef burger was absolutely delicious. The meal and drinks were more expensive than I'd have liked for their quality, but it was a good time and it's a lovely place worth spending an hour enjoying the food and drink.
Super tasty food and really nice relaxing bar!
Just went into the blackbird after walking past it for years. I was really impressed with the setting, the staff and the range of gluten free food. The beer garden is lovely and is dog friendly. Update August 2021:. The beer garden is still very comfortable and is now surrounded by beautiful foliage. The updated menu has loads of excellent gluten free options. However I am deducting one star because after my review 2 years ago The Blackbird still does not offer gluten free beer, despite the very friendly GF menu. This is a shame, with Scotland producing so much excellent GF craft beer, and with Bellfield (one of the best dedicated GF breweries) just across the city. Also there is an amazing variety of excellent porter, IPA, and bitter from First Chop Brewery in Manchester.
Came here initially for the dessert as I'd heard that it was really good. It did not disappoint, I really enjoyed my desert. Washed it down with a rum and coke after!!
Food was very tasty but was slightly disappointed as I was sold by TikTok videos showing the focaccia sandwiches which were priced at £14 a pop. When I got there I realised that the menu had changed and the sandwiches were on I’m guessing sourdough bread which was yummy but wasn’t quite worth the money in my opinion. I think for £14-16, a Focaccia sandwich is more reasonable than just a normal one. Don’t get me wrong, food was yummy and the staff member was lovely.
Really nice pub! very nice Idea of making ver good sandwiches and salads, stunning pub and beer garden and lovely staff
Really great venue with friendly staff and great drinks, lovely to have a hidden beer garden so central. Would NOT recommend the food however, paid £18 for a (small) portion of pasta, just wasn't worth the money by a long stretch.
Popped in for a quick lunch and the food was delicious, my wife had the Pulled Chicken Spice Bag which was superb but far too much even with me helping to eat it. I had the Shrimp Happens bun which was also superb. Bottle of wine with meal and young girl who served was friendly and helpful . A very pleasant lunch .
Decent pub and a very large beer garden, a rarity in the area. Although the sun doesn't catch it for enough hours! Decent priced pints and a good selection of beers. FYI, bar service charged when ordered to tables. Overall, the staff are very friendly and accommodating. Would recommend booking for beer garden and weekends.
Absolutely lovely/very professional staff and nice atmosphere. Beautiful interior and beer garden out the back with umbrella cover and ash trays provided. Drinks weren’t really my thing and I thought they were pricey for what we got. Recommend if you enjoy more bitter cocktails rather than sweet; my friend absolutely loved the Venice Negroni.
We went here on a deal. I didn't enjoy my meal enjoy to feel I'll ever go back. I got the Chicken burger, when it came out, it looked the part. Alas it was style over substance. The chicken itself was fairly small, much smaller than the beef burger (partner had). One side of the chicken was super thin, rising up to the other being a bit thicker. It was soft, being brined in buttermilk. I couldn't figure out whether it was supposed to have a coating or not, see picture. It came with red lettuce on, which leaked lots of moisture as I picked up the bun, not great for eating and watered the flavour down. Overall it was much too sweet, brioche bun is sweet and the some sweet mayo, pineapple maybe. I had to eat the chicken on its own, to taste it, it got lost in the mess. Full price for the Chicken burger alone is £10. I would be very disappointed at that price. Chips were £4.50, seems very expensive for very average frozen French fries. No way these are made fresh. The guts of £15 for a great looking, but very mediocre Chicken Burger and chips. I could not recommend.
Nice beer garden out the back. Nice bar staff. Bit pricey and food looks good but didn't order. Not too many seats.
Really nice food but I felt like service was a bit slow at times. Loved that there was vegan ice cream so I could enjoy a dairy free desert, it was delicious.
The food was acceptable, but didn't really offer value for money. My chicken burger was a little on the dry side and it lacked enough of the pineapple dressing. Fries were bog standard frozen ones. Ordered a second drink before food arrived and didn't get it until we'd nearly finished our food. Service was very good, however.
Nice pub with a good atmosphere and very helpful staff. The food however is very mediocre. I had a burger which lacked any sort of flavour and was absolutely dripping with water. It was 12 quid and didn't come with chips. The menu is very limited as well. If you're just going for a drink one evening it's a great place but I wouldn't recommend for a meal. Needs a menu overhaul.
Food was ok. I had the burger which did not come with any side (salad or chips). Fairly standard, maybe even mediocre, for the price paid. Wouldn't recommend and won't be back.
Decent pub with nice atmosphere but the food was mediocre and way over priced.
We liked the sound of their new sandwiches on offer. They start at £12, so expected nice quality food. I ordered the crispy fish. It was a thin slice of frozen oblong fish in batter . It was grey and silvery, and broke up easily. Not a fillet. The bread was most of the sandwich. Two large slabs of focaccia, and little filling. I couldn’t eat the bread. It was too thick. We ordered two portions of fries with rosemary salt. We got two half filled bowls of over cooked and greasy fries. They weren’t appealing at all. After we’d finished, we saw other orders going out and everyone got full bowls of golden fries. I think as we were first that we got some lunchtime fries that were cooked and not used, and then fried again with the salt on them, as we had old burnt salt at the bottom of the bowls. I mentioned this when we got the bill, but the server didn’t seem too interested. Her service otherwise was excellent though. Very disappointing.
Had some sandwiches and skinny fries here last week. Nice outdoor dining, and a sunny afternoon helps. The food was below par though. I’m always surprised when a chef offers something unique, like these fancy, but expensive, sandwiches, and then doesn’t do them justice. Mainly bread with a very thin spread of whatever else it comes with (says several things, but couldn’t really see them), and then charges an additional £9 for two portions of fries that were so small on the plate they could’ve made one portion up if you put them together. Very disappointed. £17.50 for one meal. Should’ve had more love put into it.
Was disappointed by our visit - we have been here before and they had good vegan options, but when we went again last night they had nothing, and the one vegetarian main couldn't be made vegan. We had to leave without ordering. A shame, because it's a nice place with great service and the food we had before was tasty.
Hi. I visited this establishment this afternoon to take my daughter for lunch after a rather stressful medical appointment. We walked in to find the place quiet and relaxed. We were met with a waitress who asked what we would like and we said initially drinks. We were led to the rear beer garden as we wanted to make the most of the sun. The waitress then came back to us and told us we could qr scan the code at our table for menus as by this time we were keen on having food. This was the last communication we had with anyone for 40 mins. We waited and waited and no one came to see us. We were both mentally exhausted after the earlier appointment and didn't have the will to go and seek out service as the place was so quiet we couldn't understand why we weren't getting served. We then walked out and even made eye contact with the waitress on leaving. We just wanted to enjoy some peace and lunch in the beer garden but sadly this doesn't seem to be on offer at the blackbird. I will not be back after this.
Nice atmosphere but totally shocking service. Ive been sat at my table for 45 minutes and totally ignored by waiting by waiting service. Had to go to the bar to get a drink. Any half decent place (in my experience) should come and offer you a drink within the first 5 minutes of being seated (if not sooner!). Waitress has no interest in us. Avoiding eye contact. Not responding when being asked politely "...excuse me". Just about to leave now and get fed somewhere else. Won't be back and don't recommend.
Really disappointing visit. We sat for half an hour before asking someone to serve us. There were plenty of staff members on and it was not particularly busy. When are order was taken the server forgot to bring food and when we were speaking to them, they walked away mid sentence. Also the menu has changed I really liked the sandwiches on offer before . I ordered calamari and it was cold and overly chewy . Would not recommend.
Never going back for food. Four thin and completely tasteless pieces of calamari were £8. The “seasoned” fries were regular fries with just table salt and the “parmesan” fries were barely cheesy and not worth £6.5. A plate of overcooked flavourless pasta was £18. At Harajuku Kitchen up the road you can get some high Japanese cuisine with impeccable flavour for a few quid less! Not worth it for food.
