We stumbled across this place following a walk with friends and wanted some drinks and lite bites with the kiddos. What a great find! Lovely pub, really nice atmosphere, great bar snacks menu - the chicken goujons and the crispy pork belly were a firm favourite! A special shout out to Serena who served us, lovely lady and nothing was too much trouble! We will definitely be back!
We have just enjoyed an excellent lunch at The Plough and couldn't fault the atmosphere, attentive and friendly staff and the food. There was a good choice of dishes too; we chose a very tasty deer and ale pie and a rack of lamb. The desserts were beautifully presented and equally tasty. Each member of staff looked like they enjoyed their role and it was a pleasure to meet the owners too, who chatted with us and explained the ambitions for their pub. If you are looking for a very pleasant place to eat, be sociable and where there is ample and easy parking, this pub should definitely be on your list.
We turned up as a party of 4 with 2 young children without a booking at 5pm. The staff could not have been more accommodating despite being quite busy. We were advised the wait was 30 minutes to order but were offered a table and some christmas drawing activities to keep the children occupied. A nice touch. Food was exceptionally good, with both children polishing off all their plates. Steak and ale pie & highland venison duo are highly recommended for adults! Very warm and welcoming pub. Highly recommend & will certainly be calling in again in the future after a visit to Polesden Lacey.
Thank you to the fabulous friendly team at the Plough for another wonderful Sunday lunch! Food here is always amazing (roasts never disappoint and sticky toffee pudding is great!) And such a welcoming place when we come for a meal with our toddler too.
Lovely lunch, lovely service. Food was high quality and reasonably priced. Dogs were looked after, water and biscuits. Lovely cask ale too! 6 of us left happy and 2 happy dogs
🎈 Unforgettable 4th Birthday Celebration! The entire team at The Plough gave our daughter the most memorable night for her 4th birthday! The service was flawless, but the absolute highlight was when your staff came over to sing "Happy Birthday." She was overjoyed! It was such a thoughtful and special touch that we won't forget. Thank you for making her special day perfect. Highly recommend for birthdays!
Serena, Ella and Tom were amazing. We hadn’t visited for a while, but we’re so glad we came back. The food was fantastic, and even more importantly, the ambience and the warm welcome made the experience extra special. Keep it up, guys — we’ll be seeing you again very soon! We’ve already booked for New Year 😊
Went today for Sunday lunch, due to traffic we were all running late. The team at the Plough could not have been more friendly or accommodating. Despite one of our party being 30 minutes late, they did not rush us to order or rush us to leave our table. The food, we had calamari starters, Sunday roasts and chocolate brownie desserts. The food was fabulous, would definitely recommend and we look forward to our next visit.
We had a great Sunday Lunch here. We both had the vegetarian roast which was delicious and the sticky toffee pudding and sundae were scrummy wummy ding dong! The service was fantastic, all the staff were lovely and the atmosphere was sweet sweet sweet tattys! Highly recommend coming here! What a find!
We haven’t been to The Plough for a few months so decided to pop in for a quick and simple bite to eat. Greeted by friendly and attentive staff we enjoyed the tasty food and pleasant atmosphere! I ordered a superb Bloody Mary which hit the spot and my husband ordered a pint of Shere Drop. We had the padron peppers in miso and rosemary almonds to start which were all delicious. Then we opted for the double beef burger which arrived piping hot and very tasty with crispy perfectly cooked chips on the side. Delicious! We will be back for more for sure!! Thanks team.
An excellent Sunday lunch at a traditional pub-like restaurant, complete with log fire. A sensible, small menu, with sensible not-huge portions, and a perfectly good wine list at cheaper prices than most restaurants. Great service, and very good food. The roast chicken was tender and full of flavour. The beefburger came with perfect, crispy chips. Good puddings too. A small place out of the way that deserves to be successful, give it a try.
A group of 4 of us booked for lunch after a lovely day at Polesden Lacey. We were greeted as soon as we walked in and sat near the bar by the fire whilst we waited for our table. The food was superb and our servers were attentive and friendly. I'm so pleased I picked this pub (seemingly at random!) out of other locals, as myself and my friends loved it. The perfect end to a lovely day!
Gorgeous, cosy, country gastropub! We visited for a family Christmas day lunch. The food was delicious, the staff were kind, helpful and charming, and the relaxed, jolly atmosphere was perfect. My teenage son had his heart set on steak for Christmas lunch, and despite not being on the official Xmas menu, the pub were so accommodating and didn't even charge us extra. It made his Christmas day. Looking forward to returning next year!
Had dinner there with my wife and son, food excellent and service extremely good. One of us changed our minds on a dish and they changed it without any fuss. The staff are very welcoming and knowledgable. Definitely one of the best pub restaurants in the area.
We were a party if 26 on Sunday and we had the most fabulous time. The food was great (slightly delay on a few dishes but we knew serving so many people would be very hard, but the staff are absolutely brilliant, nothing was to much trouble. The atmosphere was fabulous and we enjoyed the Christmas set menu. I can not thank Sarah and Tom for their hospitality, they are soo much fun and their staff work so hard, with the biggest smile on their face 😬 I love this pub, I will be back🥰
We cannot fault the meal we had at lunchtime today. The pub was beautifully festive with real garlands of foliage, the service was excellent with friendly and helpful staff. The food was undoubtedly the highlight - we were four adults and two children and everything was cooked perfectly. Really nice to have coffee and a small dessert on the menu as well. Outstanding - we shall return!!
Went for an Xmas meal a party of 8, seated quickly, attentive staff drinks came quickly menu gorgeous the food arrived hot, (8 of us as well!) very tasty generous portions, truly recommend the turkey roast. Throughout polite staff checking all was ok, cost very reasonable considering starters, main and lots of alcohol, definitely going back!
Firstly, I need to mention the staff. Helpful, cheerful, efficient and on it. All of them. All of the time. On to the food. Brilliant! Husband has a roast which he loved. I am a vegetarian and always ask for a roast wherever I go - but a meatless version. The Plough came up with an amazing veggie option. They served me roast spuds, cauliflower cheese, red cabbage, parsnips and gravy. It was sensational and really hot. My perfect meatless roast and I can’t wait to go back. Hats off!!! Well done. And great value too.
Our third visit to The Plough and we love it. The menu is interesting and it is all thoughtfully cooked. The vegetarian burger has proper veg in it rather than some UHP offering. The team there are lovely too and very welcoming to us and our senior spaniel. We hope to return soon! Thank you.
If I could rate this pub more than 5 stars I would - especially on service! A fantastically warm welcome, we were regularly asked if we wanted any more drinks, and the staff and manager were very accommodating when we sat on for ages after the meal chatting. Food was great too! And plenty of parking.
Great pub with friendly staff and exceptionally tasty Sunday roast
Thee whole experience was made that much more special by the brilliant service we got from Serena! She is warm, friendly and a great laugh!
The Plough is our local, and we're only a few minute's walk away. We had dinner there last night and it was delicious, as usual. The atmosphere is very relaxed, the staff are friendly and welcoming, and the food is great. There's also draught Shere Drop, a massive selection of gins, and Ruby the dog! Update December 2022 - had a very enjoyable family Christmas dinner at The Plough. My third festive meal this year and by far the best food, service and atmosphere. I had the white onion soup 🍲 followed by turkey 🐔 with all the trimmings and sticky toffee pudding 🍮to finish. A very nice bottle of Fleurie 🍷 made it even more special. Thanks to Pete and the team for making it so enjoyable. Update April 2023 - just had a delicious birthday lunch, yummy smoked haddock followed by apple and rhubarb crumble!
Had a lovely evening..... Christmas Carols, thanks to Bookham Choral Society, followed by mulled wine and an excellent meal.
Amazing Sunday roast - the beef were cooked perfectly and had fantastic flavour. The staff were so incredibly friendly and kind, including towards our little ones. Highly recommend!
Cosy country pub, perfect for lunch with friends. The staff were friendly, the food was delicious and the company was great. We didn't feel rushed so could enjoy a long, leisurely lunch. We will definitely be back.
Late booking for Sunday lunch. Pub was packed, but we were accommodated quickly. Staff were rushed off their feet, but service throughout was excellent and best roast we have had in a long time. Lovely to see a local pub/restaurant so busy. We will definitely be returning.
A charming, cosy little neighbourhood pub. They've got a great menu - lots of options, including healthy dishes and classic pub fare. Our food was excellent and the waitress was lovely.
My wife and I had lunch in this great pub. The food and service were excellent, the staff were really friendly and the meal was great value for money.
We had a wonderful lunch. Service was kind and attentive. Our little Frenchie Lily was also welcomed warmly with many treats. Thank you so much.
what a fantastic roast we had for our son’s birthday. Service, atmosphere and food was incredible 9 of us including 2 kids and everything came out at the same time. I would strongly recommend!!
We were treated to lunch on Tuesday. The pub was very quiet but that did not detract from the excellent food and service we received. Had I paid, I'm sure I would have been more than happy with the price of food on offer. And a lovely pint of Surrey Hills ale.
Went for Sunday Lunch with family who were visiting from Devon . Had an excellent lunch . Food was good quality , fresh & the servings were huge. Beef was cooked to perfection. The service was great as well as the atmosphere. Would definitely be visiting again .
A great little pub. We stopped off on our drive back from the New Forest to have Sunday lunch. The food was great, everything was fresh and well cooked, our waitress, Serena, friendly and attentive and the pub itself beautifully maintained.
Had lunch on Saturday with group of friends from local rugby club... Really enjoyable experience... Good food and drinks.. We were looked after really well by the Lovely Serena... Charm and Humour.. Overall a Good Lunch.....
Probably the best roast I’ve had in a pub. I had the pork, but family members also had the beef and Rack of Lamb. All were served piping hot with delicious veg and scrummy yorkies. Service was top notch not rushed and food is clearly freshly cooked. Would highly recommend we will definitely be back and reasonably priced.
Hada great time with friends. They were happy to reserve us a table of 10 on short notice. The service and the staff were phenomenal and the Sunday roast was amazing. The interiors are cozy and soothing. Definitely recommend!
Delicious food, friendly service. Our 3 dogs were welcomed too and given treats and water. Would definitely recommend this place. My only gripe was the coffee which was disappointing after such a good meal, watery and tasteless.
We happened across The Plough and we were delighted they served lunch at 4pm. The lamb I had was perfectly cooked, as was my wife’s trout. Very friendly staff and a lovely place to be. We’ll be back.
Pleasant dining pub environment, but noisy when busy. Good menu, though some items unavailable ’after Christmas rush’ this week. Food mostly very good - roast turkey and vegetables a little ’ready and waiting’ for some time, perhaps. Only one of four ale pumps active, but Shere Drop bitter very good. Friendly, professional service.
Great local pub with good food and a log burner fireplace to add that extra cozy atmosphere. Great outdoor space for summer and good parking too. The new management are lovely. The beef run Sunday roast is delicious too.
Friendly local pub, with Gastro food, a relaxed rustic garden with trees that made a great sun shelter! Limited menu but with plenty of variety on it. We enjoyed the black pudding scotch egg, and chicken schnitzel. Nice sticky toffee pudding and apple crumble to follow. Kids menu was good and although we didn’t need them we spotted colouring pencils. (Also dog friendly 🙂)
Booked for 6.30aom.on a Saturday night. Arrived about 20 mins early. Waitress knew our name. Menu is extensive and impressive with different items to standard pub fair.. Mushroom pie was amazing. The chicken snitzel was also very tasty -came with chips and some posh salad-would have preferred about steamed veg or something, but just my preference. I would definitely return.
Lovely beer garden in the summer. The pub itself is much more restaurant than drinking establishment. I have not eaten the food. The real ale quality is variable, I suspect the throughput of beer is very low, a few pints tasted like they had sat in the lines for a long time.
Mixed bag. Beautiful pub with really friendly and helpful staff, but the food portions are atrocious for the price. The roast pork is one thin slither of no more than one centimetre thick and 10cm diameter, with 2 small bits of each veg: roast potatoes, carrots, parsnip, for £20 !! Beer are desserts are good. 3 mains, 1 dessert, 5 drinks: £110 The owners of the pub chain need to address the pre-prepared portions sizes.
Servers were friendly and the atmosphere is lovely. However this was significantly let down by our meal. The food arrived late, cold and flavourless. My Korean Style Chicken burger was served on an enormous and mostly empty plate. It had no hint of character or flavour or warmth. Don't be fooled by the beautiful website and marketing images, scroll past these to images that real people have taken of their food and lower your expectations. A real and expensive shame.
Great drinks, ambience and service, but incredibly disappointing food. All three of our meals were totally underwhelming and overpriced. Two of the three meals were nearly stone cold. The steak was a very poor quality cut of meat. The pictures on the website and the descriptions on the menu seemed to have very little to do with what we were actually served.
