Incredible pastries. If I saw these in NYC they would still be fancy. The cinnamon croissant woven into a knot blew my mind. Everything is beautiful and delicious. The brisket is firm but tender and the sandwich bread thick sliced. This place is a total gem and I wish I could go here all the time, but I live out of state.
I was unprepared to have the best pulled pork sandwich I have ever had at a stand in a home garage in a residential neighborhood. The brisket sandwich is juicy and flavorful. The almond cookie was tender and loaded with flavor. And the peanut butter American classic cookie shines.
The pulled pork sandwich on homemade focaccia bread was divine. Homemade pastries available also. Get the word out, the food here is delicious!
Best barbecue around. Great brisket. Everyone in my party thoroughly enjoyed their food. They've a large selection of locally brewed beers as well as an extensive selection of cocktails.
Went to the old location a while ago, this was the first time at this location but the food is still amazing. Some of the best bbq and croissants within several hours drive and worth the drive. Great beer and cocktails as well.
Every time I’ve driven past this place I thought “we should try this place sometime” and I’m so glad we did! Who knew bbq and croissants were such a good match? We will be back soon because the brunch looks amazing!
Stumbled upon this place looking for something after a Saturday morning hike and we caught the end of brunch. Really good biscuits, ribs, brisket and wife loves the Smoked Chicken l, Egg and cheese. Bonus, they play English Premier League in the bar!
Wake up and smell the BBQ! My family and I went and got an enormous platter of all their delicious meats. My 5yr old daughter surprised us all by absolutely loving the pulled pork. Definitely give the State Eatery a try the next time you're asking yourselves where should we go for dinner?
Truly one of the most delicious meals I've had. Tender, flavorful meat (I had the brisket) and sublime mac & cheese (yes, I meant to say *sublime*), plus a lovely mint lemonade. He had the pulled pork sandwich and loved it. And the sides - savory pickles, cabbage slaw, potato salad - fantastic. Not a single dull bite-full... what a treat! The owner/chef, Khaled, is happy to chat and took good care of us. The place is clean and casual - a great place to take someone on a date. I can't wait to try the vegan options (barbecued beats- yum) and the brunch menu. We will most definitely be back. 100% worth the 5-10 extra minutes out of Ithaca and no problem finding parking.
New favorite brunch spot. Food was OUTSTANDING. I got the brisket biscuit and it was phenomenal. My friend got the BLT with an egg and he said it was possibly the best BLT he has had in his life. We also got a couple pastries and they were delicious. Ample seating, friendly staff. Good cold brew coffee. Love this place. Do yourself a favor and give this place a try.
Stumbled upon State Bakery + BBQ while visiting Ithaca, and what a gem! The ribs were solid, but the brisket really stole the show—tender, flavorful, and perfectly smoked. The biggest surprise, though, was the bakery. The almond croissant had a rich filling inside (the kind I wish more places did), and the almond cookie was unlike any I’ve had—soft, sticky, and packed with a deep almond aroma. Everything was delicious and thoughtfully made. Highly recommend. Two thumbs up!
The best. I grew up in New Jersey, bridge and tunnel to NYC. My dad was a french culinary trained Chef - miss him and his food and his endless knowledge about butchering and memorable recipes. State Bakery is a slice of home for me. The team behind the counter are attentive and generous. Burnt ends - a gift. Perfectly warmed skillet Mac and cheese served with ICE cold German style potato salad (maybe a little horseradish radish in there?) actual tears in my eyes when I taste the bark on the brisket. The pastries, to die for. Everything is crisp, flaky and never too sweet. The almond cookie - a chewy, delicate cookie with a perfectly toasted pile of almonds on top. Never disappoints.
With the high score for reviews (4.9), we had very high expectations and they were surpassed. From the baked goods and drinks to the BBQ meats and sides, everything was delicious and the portions were very generous. Everything was so good we got seconds of many items. Definitely would go back again! Some items of note included the croissants, peach almond tart and lemon tart, bread pudding, coleslaw (so different and delicious), smoked beets (amazing!), and every smoked meat (brisket, pulled pork, and chicken).
Very good BBQ! Brisket was very good, tender and tasty with good smokiness! Pulled pork was good. German potato salad and baked beans were amazing though, definitely get them. Better than the Cole slaw and Mac n cheese. Almond croissant was ok. Roasted beets look good, next time. We took our food down the road and ate it at the cidery with a good view and tables.
Don’t be turned away by the small look from outside. It is a clean professional bakery/smokehouse. Everything is made on premises. I had the bacon and egg biscuit. The biscuit was perfect. Great taste and texture. All the pastries have a special touch. Prices reflect hand made creative food. We will be back for sure.
When you first arrive the place looks like a whole in the wall but as soon as you get to the door you smell the barbecue and know you are in the right place. We trusted the reviews and they did not disappoint. The brisket biscuit was amazing.!!! We got some bake goods to go and the cinnamon croissant was great and the frosting in the middle was perfect amount and balance between the two was perfect.
My husband ordered a sandwich with brisket, said it was good. I didn't order anything. I would prefer to see the bakery items in an enclosure because there were flies flying around and landing on the food. Fun atmosphere. Bar looked like there was lots of options.
Disappointing. At $15 for an appetizer size portion of brisket on a biscuit with a fried egg, it should be really great. It wasn't. I've made better brisket at home in a pressure cooker! My wife's yogurt parfait was disappointing too, though better than the brisket at almost half the cost. They should have used fresh fruit on the parfait instead of whatever weird concoction was on there.
I ordered the traditional pulled pork sandwich to go. The bread in my opinion is too greasy and there is too much in comparison to the amount of pulled pork, cole-slaw, and bbq sauce causing the sandwich to be too dry to be edible. The baked beans had a great flavor but reminded me more of chili beans than bbq beans. I was also not fond of the baked goods being open and exposed so closely to the register where customers order that I chose to not purchase any. The service was very quick.
