A nice surprise to find an Indian restaurant in Campbell. We were visiting a friend in the area and decided to give it a try. We were given a papadum as an appetizer, fun texture with green sauce and sweet tamarind sauce. We ordered a vegetable pakora, it had more bread (reminded me of a vada) but it was fine since it was crispy. We ordered chicken tikka masala, great sauce with not dry chicken. We ordered garlic naan and something new to us a kabuli naan, a sweet naan with raisins, mango chutney and coconut bits to dip the sauces. We also ordered a lamb korma, my son and husband liked, although they thought the lamb a tad dry. The saag paneer was a particular favorite, we are use to overly salty ones but this was perfect. Since we were craving a chicken biriyani, we ordered one, it came with raita, in case we found it too spicy. The textures in the biryani were great, chicken cooked well, the extra cooked onions and lemon on the side made it tastier. We had tea, mango lassi, Taj beer (perfect per my brother). Service was nice and efficient.
Best Indian restaurant in the camden/union area. Tastes homemade; I've had homemade & not all restaurants taste as good as homemade but Royal Taj really does & is delicious & comforting. My new favorite Indian restaurant in the area. The wait staff was also incredibly kind and friendly! Will be back soon!
We ordered Lamb Korma . The gravy was delicious and lamb pieces were soft. Quantity was good for the price. Only thing packaging could have beeen better. Overall it was good.
Great food,Great customer service.

Great food,Great customer service.
Amazing food best in the world
As always, a fantastic experience. The food is always well prepared, and tastes amazing.
The Butter Chicken and Daal were both superb!
We ordered the chicken Tikka Masala, aloo gohbi, and garlic Naan. All three were delicious.
The service was great and the 5.99 chicken soup is randomly the best chicken soup I’ve ever had
Our go to local restaurant for take-out Indian cuisine. The right combination of spice and flavor every time, we've yet to have a bad order.
We have been dining here and getting takeout for over a decade and the food is absolutely fantastic
Very nice food, great quantity. Took some food home and had it the next day. Will come here again.
Great cousin, delicious chicken tica masala
Really good food, prices excellent, service very friendly and easy to get there, freeway 17 and expressway san Tomas.
Tasty food Saag shrimp was homey Staff was friendly Worth coming back Prices were cheaper compared to other restaurants Value for money
Amazing all you can eat indian, never didssapoints, consistency in quality, food tastes fresh Naan is hand made, desert and salad also available.
Fantastic food, good prices and friendly staff. It is never too crowded, but always busy.
Best place to dine in or take out ! Good food ,best service, friendly staff !
One of our favorites! We enjoyed the Royal Taj Campbell as our favorite Indian restaurant for well over a decade. We eat in as well as order to go.
so good! I have been living out of state for 3 years now and I have not found comparable indian food anywhere! best naan, and i dream about their chicken bhunna! When I come to the bay area to visit my family this place is my first stop!
I have consistently good food here. They are quick, food is hot and delicious. This was my pandemic comfort food and I’m so grateful they made it through the lockdown.
Absolutely great Indian food as it is supposed to be. They don't use heavy cream in everything they cook like other Indian restaurants in Bay area. Try them and you will find out the difference.
Home style food, good portion size and decent price . This is the first indian restaurant I visited after coming here and I totally loved the food . The feel and vibe is so cool . Satisfies your home cooked food cravings. Would visit again and again 😊
Really tasty food. Like momma would make, if you from India. Take out only now while remodeling. Highly recommend.
Amazing food and friendly service! Highly recommended, it’s first Indian food what I liked 😍
Royal Taj has been our local "go to" for Indian food for years. My favorite is the chicken tikka masala, but we also enjoy the saag lamb. You must have some fluffy rice, assorted naan and the raita to soothe the heat. Start with a cup of chai.
Food was good! Really appreciate their packaging in the aluminum foil boxes instead of the plastic ones.
The best Indian food in Santa Cruz County! Delicious food, great staff, beautiful restaurant. 10 out of 10 for sure. Go.
This is my first experience to eat punjabi food .we was group of 6 last Saturday night.we order tandoori chicken, garlic naa and curry's.we eat lots of restaurants but really so good specialy tandoori item.juicy nd nice aroma .definitely come back agin soon.all are professional.
Our very favorite Indian Restaurant. The lunch buffet is also wonderful. Delicious and fresh and the flowers are beautiful too!
Love this place, have been coming for the last 20 years and it's always been spectacular eating. Not much to look at, but who cares when it tastes like that!
The staff was very friendly and sweet. Their prices were extremely fair. The food was great!
I love the platters here. The Chai is the real deal. Great curry dishes & Nan. The tandoori chicken is the best around town. It's hard to find a good Indian restaurant that doesn't run up the a la carte costs. The biryani is hot & tasty but not too spicy. Great food & service found here!
Good food and good service. We had their daily special with chicken masala and tandoori chicken. Our waitress was attentive and gave us helpful recommendations.
Haven't got a chance to visit Royal Taj and have a meal over there though we ended up ordering quite a bit for a dinner setup. We ended up ordering Paneer Tikka Kabab, Saag Paneer, Tandoori Chicken (full) , Kabuli Naan (tasted amazing and fantastic) , Garlic Naan, Chicken Makhanwala and Chicken Biryani along with some Raita. Kabuli Naan with Chicken Makhanwala was the first target and it definitely set the tone for the dinner and for what was to follow. Tandoori items were definitely tasty and had that undertone of what authentic tandoor would taste. The spices and marination was just perfect and we loved every bit of these. Followed that with the Garlic Naan and Saag paneer along with bites of the biryani with Rait and that quite summed up an amazing dinner. Would definitely drive down some day over to Royal Taj and plan for a dinner or so.
We have not ever dined in. But we have ordered takeout on many occasions. We love the dishes there. I am not Indian and I do have a sensitive stomach. Never had a problem.
I have ordered food from there a few times now and each time, I am blown away with the quality and flavor of the food. If I ever want Chicken Tiki Masala, I go there. No other restaurant compares.
Not the best customer service but food is delicious. Definitely feels like they need better management. But thats why i order take out lol. Ill keep going as long as food is still good.
Great value! Reasonable priced lunch buffet every day. 4-5 vegi dishes plus 3-4 chicken dishes, plus nan and salad. Not fancy, but I like it!
Best tikka masala in the area! kabuli naan is my all time favorite here! Ordered numerous takeouts from Royal Taj and still love love love this place!! This will be my most-missed restaurant in Campbell when I move. Their tikka masala+kabuli naan is magical with very flavory spices! :)))))
Amazing food. The spices and texture are amazingly well done. I have been going to this place with my family for years. It's a little bit expensive for a big family so it's a nice birthday treat or holiday family dinner or buffet location.
Great service very kind and attentive. Food was delicious fast and came out fresh and hot. Clean and well kept dining area. We will definitely be back I'm surprised this place isn't packed out
I’m a regular. Great help yourself lunch buffet, good food for the price. Quiet setting. Love the lamb vindaloo with chutney. A little on spicy side for some of the dishes, but I don’t mind.
Best food around! Go here on a monthly basis. I have never found another restaurant that has the same flavor! Thank you to all of the staff!
Excellent Northern Indian food in San Jose/Campbell. Everything was freshly made and delicious. This was our first time here. I seriously urge you to ignore an earlier negative review by someone who seems to have gone to another restaurant or was just being malicious out of spite to cause trouble and obviously has a bad relationship with the truth. We had ...mango laasi, chai, Papadaam, garlic Naan bread, deep fried vegetable Pakoras, bastami rice, yogurt Raita, Tandoori Murgh Chicken, Eggplant and... peas Baingain bharta which I asked for it very mild, shrimp vindaloo which I asked for it very mild as I don't like very spicy food I always put some tamarind chutney over some raita on my plate and eat that with the bharta and garlic naan alternating with the rice... my favorite
Food was amazing and I ordered mini chicken pizza, malai kofta. Fabulous food , texture like real authentic Indian food. Highly recommended and looking forward to dine in..☺️☺️
Everything was extremely competitive. The food is piping hot, and tastes incredible. The portions were very healthy, and the prices were very competitive. The service was lovely, and super fast, too. They had everything bagged and out the door in about 10 minutes. I might be here every day this weekend, while I'm next door.
My absolute favorite restaurant in the bay area!!! Highly recommend to anyone; this is a must have!
We were not familiar with Indian food so we depended on the server’s recommendation. We had rice, flatbread and two lamb dishes served in pretty copper dishes. They were all tasty and flavorful and there was plenty of it. The place is cute, clean and reasonably priced. We will definitely be back. It is located close to the Stanford cancer center.
This restaurant is conveniently close to us, and also seems to be the best Indian food around for 40 miles. Trust me, we've tried nearly everything in and around San Jose and surrounding communities. We've never been disappointed by the food here no matter what we've ordered. Our favorites are the Mattar Paneer (Peas with farmers cheese), Chicken Korma (cashew sauce chicken), Sag Lamb (creamed spinach and lamb). But as I've said, everything seems to be done well. I believe - but am not sure - that they recently changed ownership (or perhaps its just front-of-house staff that changed), but the chefs are still the same so the food quality is unchanged.
I started eating here in the late 80's thru 1995. Came back in 2014-2016. Wish I was still there 😔 5 Stars all the way
Fantastic Food and great place! We had the Maharaja Royal Feast for my wife and I and it WAS such a FEAST! Great price, with left overs too👍👍🏆. I just wish we lived closer, as we would be back often! I highly recommend this place to eat😋!
My favorite Indian buffet in the South Bay. Dal & veggie dishes are consistently a bit spicy and always tasty. (I hear the tandoori chicken and other meat dishes are also good!) Not too much oil. Never gotten Delhi belly after having eaten here many many times. Casual atmosphere (in not so great a neighborhood!). Just simple, good Punjabi style food.
Been coming here for over 20 years. It’s hands down my favorite Indian and THE best Chicken Tikka Masala and garlic naan. It’s extremely rare to find a dish so delicious and that has consistently delivered on that promise for over two decades, never failing to deliver in it deliciousness. They’ve never sold, or lost their way with their recipes. They stayed true and stood the test of time. While the CTM is my fav, truly so many of their dishes are a delight to the senses. I feel blessed we have access to such great Indian Cuisine locally and always look forward to going.
I have eaten here many times and know people who have eaten here for years. It’s good really good. Fresh, flavorful, full size portions. We drove from Santa Cruz to eat here. We keep coming back because it’s that good.

Visited this place for Lunch Buffet, decent choice of curries, tandoori chicken, pakoras and papad. Curries were tasty as well. Place is not very big. Buffet is good value for the money. Campbell has only couple of Indian restaurant. Good place to visit, if you are in Campbell area.

Good food. They even serve complimentary papad. Ambience - not so good. Old small place, food is good however.
Great tasting food. Ambiance is nothing to brag about, but I care more about the food. Service is fast, and courteous.
Good food and great service. There's plenty of parking. Them can accommodate small groups. The buffet selection is good and the food is well prepared.
Costumer service is very good, the place is very clean and the food is very good also. I wish they'd have more variety so I can try more dishes and learn from their culture.
Good Indian restaurant in Cambrian, Campbell and Los Gatos area. Their Vegetarian dishes we ordered for kids were tasty and everyone liked them.
The food's always good though the people serving sometimes I wonder if they really like us. Not a real warm and fuzzy place but the food is good
Customers here are often Indian families, which speaks for itself. Good food, quiet wait staff; I particularly like their lunch buffet.
Delicious food, good service. It's an old, small restaurant and ambiance is not that good. Naan and onion kulcha were very fresh and soft.
Don't have very high expectations and you should be good here. Decent food, good service, good pricing and has a relaxed feel to it.
It's a little kitschy with some Christmas decor that's been up for years complementing more traditional art, and it's certainly not fancy, but we think It's the best Indian restaurant in South San Jose. My husband and his colleagues like the lunch buffet. I've only ordered a la carte. They offer large portions of tasty food at average prices for the area. In particular, I enjoy the malai kofte and the seekh kebab. Their pakore are a generously large serving and nicely crispy when fresh but don't hold up well for takeout. They are friendly and service is quick. They have also been extremely patient when we've been there with children.
Our family has been coming here ever since we moved to the bay area 10 years ago and they have always given us great service. They have good Indian food at reasonable prices whether coming for the buffet or dinner.
I love the taste of Garlic Naan, mango lassi here. Panneer naan was also good. Didn’t like aalu naan. It was so thick. It’s my first time with Aalu naan. So I don’t know whether it should be like that or not 😜. Got surprised to see the quantity of vegetable pakora.
Royal Taj has great food!! Usually do take out since the staff seems ever-changing and the room just has a weird and slightly dingy vibe to it. Love the food!
Have been having their food for the last 15 years. The butter chicken is good. Some of the appetizer vary between good and average but overall the food is good
Bengan Bharta and chicken tikka masala are my go to items; add some garlic naan and you've got a good meal! Price has gone up and the quantity has gotten smaller but the quality is the same. Some might not enjoy this place, I think it’s a small gem.
Great lunch buffet with decent variety and delicious deserts and authentic Indian tea. Wonderful homemade naan. We come here often and the prices are reasonable.
Great Indian food, great prices Update 9/29/21***** I'm almost certain this place has changed ownership now. All the regular cooks are no longer there. The food is still pretty good, but not the same recipes as before. I prefer the previous cooks but it's not badass, just different.
Good Indian food for takeout or eat-in. Back in the day they had a lunch buffet that was quite good, but that ended with the pandemic. I see there are for sale signs on the property, so I'm not sure how much longer this will be here. Stopped in for dinner and had the fidget samosas, butter, chicken, and a lamb spinach dish. All were very good. I also had a mango lassie and that was quite good.
This place is a gem in the Cambrian area. We have been going here for about 20 years, but there has been a change in the food for the better. The food is a little spicier and they use less oil, yummy. I gave it four stars because you can sometimes end up waiting a little bit longer for takeout than you expected. Worth it!
Very good Indian, and I've been eating South Bay Indian here for 30+ years. The taste is great, fresh, and mainly NOT GREASY/OILY. Too many places drown their sauces in gee or other oils, not here. Light, creamy and you don't feel guilty. The lunch is a great deal, will fill you up. Everything I've had is good, no problems.

I went there late so things were probably shower than usual, however the food is just ok and the atmosphere is reasonable. I'm not sure I'll go there again unless there is no other choice.
We ordered okra. It was all selected over ripped okra. Taste of food is good. Presentation is good. Not much suitable for veggies sometimes.
Gud hot hot food. Good service and people. First I got it packed and it was yumm and then next day again went for dinner. Must try once. Not very costly as well.
- Few meal options for buffet. Some of the food wasn't warm.+ I like their customer service. Their naan was great.
For the buffet lunch.. The service was warm and curteous, but didn't help elevate the taste of the food. It was subpar. The garlic in those dishes tasted raw and the cooking seemed a bit hurried. What happened to the original & authentic Royal Taj?
I've been here only a few times. The food is average. The seating arrangements are crammed, the facilities are well below average and service is slow. I'd avoid the table right next to the restroom at all costs. Luckily I never had to seat at that particular table. The location is probably the only best part as it's very close to the highway exit.
The restaurant seemed disorganized. The entree was somewhat watery but the rice tasted really good. It seems like the waiter or the cook did not show up and the staff was doing their best to make things look normal when we knew that they weren't. Will I go here again? Maybe. This will not be my first choice when I crave Indian food next time.
Overall slightly below mediocre. Found hairs in the food. The Gulab Jamun had bad refrigerator smell and taste.
Ordered delivery, chicken tikka masala. It's the blandest chicken tikka I've ever had. Just tastes like nothing.
Cheap buffet in the area but no taste to the food. The customer service is a joke as rhe buffet trays were out of naan and chicken tikka masala for 15 mins and the staff simply pays no attention.
Have been a patron of Royal Taj for a LONG time (going on 15 years). I believe that the ownership (or management) has changed in the last 2-3 years more than once. While the service was taking a dive, the food was still excellent and held its own. Now, the food is also not as good as it once was, as I can only guess that the cook staff has changed. I would give the place 3 stars, but the fact that the last time that I went to pick up a meal, the guy running the cash register didn't bother to wear a mask (of any type) now makes it so that I don't want to eat there any more. If they aren't keeping with health protocols in this day and age, then "no thanks".

Eat from here if YOU WANT TO DIE I ordered mutton sheek kebab from this place. It had plastic pieces in the kebab. It was ground along with the meat ,so you cannot see it until you by mistakenly chew on it . This happened twice ! The plastic pieces look like particle of mutton pieces, until you chew it ! What a horrible place to eat food
Ordered chicken biryani but it is just a color rice with dry chicken pieces . There is no salt , spices and masala in it. Worst food ever never order again from this place .

I ordered a Dal makhani later in the evening and since they had very little left, it seems they added water to the original dal, heated it and gave it to me. Overall: Average tasting Indian food.
This was the worst biryani ever tasted. I wonder if I had jeera rice with lamb. We ordered around 9.45pm and wish he told that it wasn't available instead of giving jeera rice, or donno if that is how mughlai biryani tastes with them.
Ordered via doordash The order missed my mango lassi ironically they sent a straw though and coming to chicken biryani i threw it after eating a morsel of stale chicken which they warmed up and packaged. Does anyone know how to call Health department to raid on these guys?
worst food I ever had..what a messy oily food.. I order chicken mushroom, kadai chicken, assorted basket bread and pulav(rice).. missing pulav I call restaurant long explanation I feel sorry for owner have a employee like that... fixing problem instead of dealing giving an long explanation..... 1 star food 0 star service even though I order through DoorDash
I tried this place 15 years ago... worst experience. I see it’s still in business so maybe I was wrong. I rather go to Rangoli, they have the best food, service and clean Indian restaurant in the Southbay
We ordered take out and they gave our order to the wrong person. They called and asked the person to bring the order back for us! They weren't going to cook us a new order and had us wait until some random person walked back in off the street with "our food." After we pressed for a new order they obliged and made it tight. One star for thinking it's acceptable to let a stranger walk out with food and return it for someone else.
Tried their food - I didn’t know chicken can smell that bad and al the items were worse than the other. Ordered mixed kabab, biryani, vindaloo.. everything tasted so bad. Not going to eat there again.
The food is bad and service is worse. We ordered Mattar Paneer, Dal and Fulkas. Mattar paneer contained very hard pieces of paneer that were either very old or were not thawed/cooked properly. They gravy was watery thin and peas were undercooked and the frozen kind, not fresh. We were given Tandoori Rotis instead of Fulkas...and no one came to check how the food was. We ate what we could, and left ASAP.
Yikes... Chicken tikka masala is weirdly sweet. The kebobs had a weird flavor. The shrimp was overcooked. The only thing that was edible was the naan.
In the past the food was very good. I ate here after 8 years and the paneer was really hard. Not up to the standard. The quality seems to have deteriorated.
This was just bad. The chicken tikka masala was somehow sweet and didn't taste anything like it should. The chicken was dry, the naan was hard. I also got a Tandoori plate and the meat tasted very odd and was super dry.
