Avis sur Zum Lindenbaum Fredericksburg
When I come through Fredericksburg this is where I eat. In fact, it’s so good and my family loves it that I went out of my way to come to town, order from here and take it home to them a few hours back(with a cooler in tow)!!! I ordered the Jager schnitzel and Goulash. Their chocolate mousse cake is phenomenal. After I eat it, I think it’s worth it to have the body shape I have(I’m in a healthy BMI, but need to make wise choices for my health, got to live a little! Worth it!!!) Great historic building, Great service. Clean.
Loved this place! The food was so good and it has a very calming atmosphere. We both got the jäger schnitzel and loved it
This restaurant is a nice place if you want to have a German-inspired dinner. The service there is great; our order was served quickly, and the staff was really attentive. We ordered Kasseler Rippchen: a smoked pork chop with sauerkraut. The meat was delicious and paired well with all the side dishes. We also tried Kase Schnitzel, which was served with a generous amount of cheese, was crispy, and well-seasoned. For dessert, I really enjoyed the chocolate mousse cake; it was well-balanced in sweetness and very tasty. Of course, for winter time, I recommend ordering the Gluhwein and pairing it with your dinner.
Wonderful German cuisine. Potato salad makes me go oogoo banuunuu. Have tried the currywurst, jagerschnitzel, and goulash thus far. Nothing has disappointed me. Everytime I'm in Fredericksburg I stop by.
This restaurant has a little more of an old school, authentic German vibe. I've eaten here a few times and it is always a big portion and delicious. This time I wanted something a little lighter and got the smaller portion of the Hungarian stew over herbed egg noodles. The food and service were speedy. The stew hit the spot and tasted like something perhaps your grandmother made.
As a 3rd generation German immigrant, the food at Der Lindenbaum was just as tasty as my German family’s cooking, and, the German food I ate, while living in southern Bavaria. If you want to try authentic German food, Der Lindenbaum Restaurant is the place for you. It felt like home from the time we stepped in the door. Friendly staff, excellent service and the most amazing food. Love, love love this place and cannot wait to come back. Save room for dessert. The apple streudel was delicious. My husband had the Weiner Schnitzel, and I had the daily special, knockwurst/bratwurst with red cabbage, sauerkraut and potato salad, and homemade bread.
Amazing service and great food and drinks. The paprika and Kase schnitzel are the best IMO. I would also say the cabbage is quite sweet alone but it pairs really well with the potatoes that way. Bitburger draft was excellent. No wait, quick to serve our drinks and food, great service again.
Lived in Europe for three years and all over the US. This is the BEST most authentic German food I've had in America. Incredible service and cozy setting. It's a hidden gem in plain sight. Everyone visiting Fredericksburg winds up in the tourist traps across the street eating sub food. 🤷
Good German restaurant with a welcoming atmosphere. Feels like you're eating in someone's home. The staff were friendly, but there weren't very many so it took a while to get seated. Air conditioning and clean tables! Ordered the pork cutlets and it was so good. The breading was very light and the potato salad was great. Will definitely be back!
Great lunch!! Our waitress was friendly and took good care of us. We loved the marble rye bread to start. We had he jäger schnitzel, the mixed sausage platter and the kartoffel salad. The schnitzel featured a delicious wild mushroom sauce and was served with German potato salad and red cabbage. The schnitzel was crispy and the mushroom sauce was delicious. The sausage plate as served with a very good sauerkraut and German potato salad. The kartofel salad featured crisp greens and German potato salad. The Black Gorest Cake was too yummy to pass up for dessert. Good news! They did take our credit fcard!
My fiancé and I went here for a late lunch around 2 after hiking Enchanted Rock and the atmosphere was very cozy like a german grandma's house. Our server was very attentive and kind. My fiancé ordered the Zigeuner Wurst and I ordered the Jaeger Schnitzel. Both were very fresh and so comforting after a long hike! I don't know a lot about German Food, but the German Potato Salad was the absolute best I've ever tried! My new standard for good German Potato Salad! Everything was so fresh! I definitely recommended stopping in! Looking forward to my next visit to Fredericksburg for more!
Our server, Abi, was wonderful. Very attentive and friendly. Hubby and I had an early dinner about 3:30 today, Friday. Not crowded, but had other customers. A nice time to dine for we seniors. Our food was very good. My schnitzel sandwich on marble rye bread was tender, crispy and delicious. Hubby's 3 sausages were excellent tasting. I was expecting the sauerkraut to be a bit more vinegar forward for my particular taste, but still had a good flavor. The caraway seeds and bacon was a nice touch. The German potato salad was not the usual fare, but more like mashed potatoes, German style. I read many reviews of others not particularly liking this mashed type, but as my husband reminded me, there are different ways to make German potato salad, and this is just another way to prepare them. The warm potato salad was good, but, in my humble opinion, also needed more vinegar. Again, the food was good, but not the best German food I've ever had. The great service and clean, delightful atmosphere of this restaurant made our visit worthwhile, and we certainly would return.
About as German as you can get in the US. We had jagerschnitzel and pork chops at our table and they were fantastic! The sauerkraut and red cabbage sides were generous and delicious. However the surprise side was the German potatoes. Addictive. Great taste and consistency. Ausgezeichnet! This rivaled meals we had in Germany 🇩🇪. To top it off the Tuxedo cake was wonderful. The employees were terrific, helpful, and on top of everything. I highly recommend this authentic German restaurant!
The schnitzel was delicious. The potato salad and red cabbage were okay, just not what I am used to. I've grown up with homemade potato salad (chunky and served cold) and red cabbage, and this potato salad was more similar to slightly sweet mashed potatoes (served warm), while the red cabbage was also a bit too sweet for my taste. Loved the atmosphere, old stone walls and cozy finishes. And the waitresses were very welcoming and helpful.
We went here for my mother's birthday. It's a quaint little place that used to be a bakery, I think. The atmosphere is old world cozy. Our waitress was friendly and helpful, and when my mother asked for tea, she brought over lots of options for her to choose from. Like a true German, she was glad to see empty plates when we were done, LOL. That being said, the food seems to be hit or miss. We started with a bread basket with butter, and the marbled bread was tasty. Three of us, myself included, ordered schnitzel, which was very good, well cooked and crispy. The potatoes are excellent, very soft and flavorful, and we all liked the red cabbage. My mother ordered the goulash, which she said was not like what she had when she and dad lived in Germany, plus the meat was tough. My kid sister had the spaghetti, which she said was 'light on flavor.' Meaning bland. None of us got bratwurst or the salads, so I can't comment on those. Overall, this is a nice place with good service, but there are other German restaurants in Fredericksburg where the food is more outstanding, so we probably won't be back.
Denise was Super Friendly and Informative when it came to the menu and appetizers. We had German bread as an appetizer and it was warm and soft. We had the Butchers Plate and Spaghetti Bolognese and both were Delicious. Wait time was bare to none and food was hot and came out Perfect. The Mash Potatoes were new and full of taste! We will return! Auf Wiedersehen till then🇩🇪
This was my first time trying German cuisine. Everything was well prepared. I had the curry wurst. The veal and pork sausage was good with the sauce. I just wasn't a fan of the sauerkraut and the German potato salad had a different taste, but they were okay. Hubby had the pot roast, it was tender and full of flavor. His dish came with red cabbage which was pretty good. We ended up switching plates halfway thru dinner, because I liked his meal better 😁 The portions are more than enough for us. I was surprised there was no complementary bread with our meal. The bread basket is an additional $3.95. It is a bit pricey. Our server was great. We didn't have to wait to be seated either. She made sure we were taken care of. It was difficult to find parking on the main strip, but there is parking in the back 👍
Came here for an early dinner after our wine tour. I liked the rustic German charm of the place. The Auslese wine was smooth with just the right amount of sweetness. I had the Butcher’s plate which I thoroughly enjoyed although I prefer larger portions. My friend had the Gulasch (spicy beef dish). We didn’t have dessert but they looked delicious. They have parking behind the building if the street parking is full.
Pretty good for those who want to try a German-style dinner once. Visited during a trip to Fredericksburg, the place came recommended by a local AirBnB host as authentic German cuisine. My friend ordered a curry huhn and a lemonade, I had a Jager schnitzel, and we found it enjoyable. The indoor atmosphere was modest and comfortable. Our server was Denise, who was friendly despite looking busy. With tip, an entree dinner was about $40 per person.
After asking several locals for a good German restaurant, we were repeatedly recommended The Lindenbaum as the most “authentic” option in town. As a German myself, I had high expectations, but unfortunately, I left somewhat disappointed. One of my biggest issues was the “Wiener Schnitzel” on the menu. Traditionally, Wiener Schnitzel is made with veal, but here, it was only pork. In Germany, that would be called “Schnitzel Wiener Art” to differentiate it, and I wish the restaurant labeled it correctly. It’s hard to get Wiener schnitzel so I was super excited… That being said, the schnitzel itself was well-prepared and tasty, but I was expecting to eat a real Wiener Schnitzel. The potato salad was another letdown. What was served was not a typical German potato salad but rather mashed potatoes with bacon (Kartoffelpüree mit Speck). While it tasted fine, it was far from what one would expect if looking for a true German-style potato salad. Overall, while the food was decent, it didn’t quite meet the authentic German experience I was hoping for. If you’re just looking for a casual meal with German-inspired dishes, it might still be worth a visit, but if you’re seeking true authenticity, you may be disappointed.
If you want to feel like a number this is the place. Food was boring, noodles overcooked, only one choice of potatoes, limited options, no Spätzle or dumplings on the menu, and all of it at an inflated price. Waitress was less than friendly. I won’t be back
The food was nothing like eating in Munich. The potato salad was cold and tasted like pure cane sugar. The purple cabbage was so sweet, I gagged on it. The owner may be German, but her food has been “Americanized” so Americans will eat it. We even had a German Exchange student with us and she was very upset that the food wasn’t what she was expecting. All we wanted to do was make her feel less homesick. It ruined our day trip to Fredericksburg.
