What a truly fantastic restaurant! Lots of delicious options on the menu here for Southeast Asian food--it's hard to go wrong! My absolute favorite dishes were the nasi lemak with chicken rendang and the mohinga (fish soup), but everything we ordered was fabulous. People loved the hokkien mee (noodles), chili fish, satay, gado gado, belachan kang kung, beef rendang, sambal shrimp, roti pratha... Gosh I could go on. You can order with confidence here. Service is also outstanding here, from the moment I called for a reservation to how they took care of our party throughout dinner. Legit amazing restaurant!
Some of the finest Malaysian Cuisines you can find in the Bay Area. Foods are 10/10. Highly recommended to anyone craving for some Southeast Asian taste buds.
The food was really good, service was good with a smile. Tried mee goreng, basil fried rice, roti pratha and satay chicken all of them were good.
07/27/2022 Mingala is no longer in Fremont. It will reopen this coming Friday (07/29/2022) in Newark at Mowry/Cedar according to a reliable source! It will be a bigger 3,000 sq ft facility! ********************************************** Was invited to a party and the food was catered from Mingala. I tried the papaya salad and it was heavenly. Spicy, the papaya was crispy, flavorful Lol….. had a chance to bring leftovers home from party!
Highly recommend this place if you're craving Malaysian food. We ordered online and within 15 minutes all of our food was ready. Staff members were very friendly when we went to pick up our order. Every dish we ordered was packed full of flavor and so delicious! I can't wait to try dishes in house instead of take out. Will def be back
Wanted to try something different and found this Malaysian place and to my luck was blown away by how delicious the food is. The ambience isn't that of a fine dining so don't go expecting that, but the food is minf blowing. We had the Nasi Lemak and Chicken rendang with malaysian roti and Thai ice tea. All of it was super delicious. Definitely a huge fan of Malaysian food after trying it for the very first time. Also has a great breakfast menu.
Ordered delivery and items came in a box (see pic). Love that they have a separate vegetarian menu with egg options. Veggie Indian Mee Goreng was delicious. Belachan Kangkung brings back memories of Asia. Coconut rice tasted very lemak, very flavourful. Butter Rice was delicious, mixed with fried onions and spices. Our order of Chicken Masala was oily and tasted too salty. Edited: added pictures of Chicken Rendang, which my husband enjoyed.
We tried this quaint Malaysian spot in warm springs and it certainly did not disappoint. We got the roti paratha, black pepper veggie lamb ,(vegan), and veggie kung Pao tofu. Everything was made hot and fresh and had just the right amount of spice and flavor. There is enough seating for around 20 people inside. In terms of price it's certainly on the higher end of comparable restaurants, but I think it's very much worth it. They do give you large portions as well, we took over half of it to go.
Very authentic Asian (Malaysian food)!!! Servers are SO nice!! They wear hair nets and masks. They gave us a free jasmine drink on the house. You are allowed to eat inside and the tables are very clean/ sanitized! We called in our order and food was ready when we arrived. They also keep orders warm in a little heat box. I recommend the chow keau tauw (noodle dish). The meals come with sambal and jalapeños.
I love Mingala since it opened in Warm Spring. The new location seems brighter & spacious. We dropped by on Saturday around 8pm and was seated immediately. The service was friendly & very fast (we got our order in less than 10 minutes). - Mee goreng with chicken: delicious! The portion was generous. There were lots of chicken pieces. The noodle was cooked perfectly (chewy). The sauce was delicious but it was less spicy than the last time I remembered. - Nasi lemak with chicken: YUMMMM! The rice was succulent and flavorful. The chicken was cooked perfectly: tender, juicy & flavorful. The sambal with salted fish was delicious (great complement to the dish)
If you visit, you need to try the rendang. I had it with chicken and it was savory, with a kick of nutty sweetness and a spice-rich depth (not spicy). Everything else I’ve gotten was also good but being served next to the rendang would put any dish to shame. Service and atmosphere weren’t anything special, but that’s how you know it’ll be good. The server I’ve gotten most times has been a bit snappy, but I could care less
Wow! What a great find. Really delicious food, no line, and it was very affordable. I want to come back again and try more. Service was fast and friendly. Size was fairly decent too, it looks like it can accommodate those medium/larger parties as well. Also, they have lots of vegetarian options on the back of their menu.
Came here for the Malaysian food. Requested for more wok hey for the WaTanHor dish and they turned out pretty decent, pretty close to what I’d find back home in Singapore and Malaysia. Balacan Kang Kung (water spinach) was served with generous portion of balacan that I appreciate. Beef rendang is wetter and less spicy than what I’m normally used to but it was still pretty delightful. Jasmine rice was fluffy and fragrant. I appreciate that they had made it more mild instead of really spicy, so if you really want spicy you’d have to specify that specifically! Not a total 5, but more than a 4 for sure! But I’m giving 5 so that they will be here for a long time to serve the minority of us who may miss home food now and then!
They moved to Newark from Warm Springs area about 2 years ago. Experience authentic Burmese cuisine and a variety of other Asian dishes at this restaurant. Enjoy huge portions, fair prices, and friendly service, making it an excellent choice for a satisfying meal.
Wat tan hor / huat dan ho. So good and wok hei. Asked for spicy got flavorful whole chilies and spice.
Been here a couple times. All noodles and soups are stand out. Curries are good too, even the seafood ones and I typically don't love seafood curry. Seafood curry was luscious and sweet with a lot of shrimp. Noodles have good heat, soups and curries and rich and flavorful. Noodles have good bite and some dishes come with good lemon and chili sauces. Can be a bit salty but good management, fast service and food.
Bustling Southeast Asian in South Bay, serving Malaysian and Burmese classics to a largely Asian dining clientele. Tea Leaf Salad gets all the flavor profiles right — unctuous, nutty, savory, but still citrusy and light. Excellent for to-go and delivery, as hot items are stored in a hot closet till pickup. A great option when ordering-in for a relaxed family dinner at home.
My girlfriend took me here for dinner. The food was delicious. The seafood curry stew was so tasty and the black noodles were very good. I would order this dish again. Even the green tea tastes good. 💗💗 Customer service was outstanding. My girlfriend brought me a birthday cake. The restaurant was kind enough to give us places and forks. I was a little shy but happy that they played the Happy Birthday song to me. Thank you everyone.🌹🌹 keeps up the good work. I would definitely come back.
Mingala is my favorite Malaysian/southeast Asian restaurant in the Bay Area! The food here is consistently good and flavorful - my favorites are the curry mee chicken and nasi lemak with beef rendang. Good portions and good prices, not to mention the service is friendly!
Wonderful little Malaysian restaurant that's perfect for family visits or dates. The food is excellent and the owners are friendly. Fremont is so lucky to have Mingala in its food scene.
The other day, I and my wife wanted to have some roasted duck wonton noodles at Newark Lion market supermarket shopping center, but it only for carryout. We stopped by this new restaurant in the complex, quite crowded so we decided to try. We didn’t even know it’s Malaysian, burmese, Chinese food. I like curry so I ordered Red Curry Chicken and my wife ordered hot and spices vermicelli. Many times at Thai restaurants, I didn’t like the curry has coconut juice too rich and sweet for my taste but this Red Curry was perfectly made. The taste was just right, flavorful and delicious. My wife noodles were good too but I enjoyed my curry with white rice more. The service was excellent, attentive and pleasant. This used to be a Chinese restaurant too, but now it’s remodeled brighter and cleaner. Good atmosphere for family eating out. The price is a little high but still excellent for the food. Average about $20 per person. A few days later we came to order take out for my daughter and she loved it too. We will come back and try other dishes when we’re too lazy to cook at home.
Originally on Warm Springs Blvd near Mission blvd and now at its new location next to Lion center on Mowry Ave in Fremont, and offers Burmese-Malaysia and Singaporean fare. The interior has been updated and the ceiling and walls have been repainted with bright yellow colors. I recall Mingala billing itself as offering authentic Malaysian cooking (as in using grandma's recipes perhaps). That said, their curries and masalas are great. Curry fried rice - this one is good. Plenty of assorted vegetables (and chicken or beef) in a well flavored fried rice dish. A good departure from Chinese style fried rice. Rice was little mushy though. Beef masala- beef shanks braised in a fragrant mix of herbs and spices. This the southeast Asian version of beef stew.. Masala is the Hindi word for spice so this truly is a spiced beef dish. Fragrant, with some spiciness along with a little sweetness, iIt tastes fantastic . the sauce is the star of the dish. It is a little expensive at $20. They should offer a smaller portion for something like $12 Roti prata - much thicker than the thin stuff you may see at thai restaurants, mingalas version is oilier and more bready. Some may prefer it, some may not Mohinga - Burma's national dish. Mohinga is a pungent fish soup with small bits of fish. Served as a soup or a meal, it is best paired with rice or noodles. Its too intense to eat on its own. Salt and pepper eggplant - nicely deep fried (as in crispy but not oily)chunks of eggplant with onions and peppers. Quite tasty and even better when dipped in curry sauce. Service is friendly and efficient. Parking is relatively easy. Several adjacent restaurants have closed so parking has freed up. Prices are moderate and have gone up over time due to inflation and other factors. Nevertheless, There's a lot to choose from at Mingala and most if it is good. Perhaps Mingala will start to offer some more "Home cooking" style Malaysian and burmese cuisine. Most restaurants think people don't want to eat "that kind of stuff"...I think otherwise. That's how they got started in the first place. We will return.
Big surprise to find Burmese and Singaporean/Malaysian food right here in fremont/newark. Huge space and well maintained. Food was very authentic especially the tea leaf salad, Tom yum soup and Singaporean bee hoon. Loved it and went 2 weeks in a row.
This is a really great authentic restaurant in the area. The curry was amazing and large portion size that we could take the leftover curry sauce to make another meal at home. The roti was delicious and the fat noodles were amazing. The staff is friendly and service was great. I'd definitely come back to try other things.

GOOD LORD!✨We were eating in shock! All of the flavors, the freshness, the authenticity, the portions, the price! It was SO delicious…speechless! Came to the area on a work trip, otherwise this spot and 📍Saffron Grill on 5970 Mowry would be my weekly outings!!!! We didn’t wanna stop eating…which is extremely rare for us! THANK YOU MINGALA! 😊 Ordered (all these plates go perfect together) : •Hainam Chicken Rice Set •Ohn Noh Kaut Swell (the chicken one) •Roti Pratha w/ curry sauce
From the very first time I sat down at Mingala Restaurant, I knew I had discovered something truly special — especially as someone who loves fresh, vibrant vegetarian and vegan food. Mingala isn’t just any restaurant; it’s a place where plant-forward dishes shine in every way, and where the flavors are bold, thoughtful, and unforgettable. Their vegetarian and vegan options are not afterthoughts — they steal the show. The star of the menu for me is absolutely the Burmese tea leaf salad. This isn’t your typical salad — it’s a joyful celebration of textures and tastes. The fermented tea leaves bring a deep, tangy richness that’s balanced beautifully with crunchy lentils, peanuts, sesame seeds, fresh vegetables, and just the right amount of brightness and spice. Every bite feels alive. It’s hearty without being heavy, refreshing yet grounding, and completely satisfying in a way that only truly thoughtful food can be. It’s the kind of dish you keep thinking about long after the meal is over. Beyond the tea leaf salad, Mingala’s vegetarian and vegan offerings continue to impress. Each dish feels intentional, carefully crafted, and full of warmth. The flavors are layered and comforting, yet exciting — proof that plant-based food can be just as bold and soulful as anything else. Eating here feels nourishing not just to the body, but to the spirit. What I love most about Mingala Restaurant is how it leaves you feeling afterward: content, energized, and genuinely happy. It’s the kind of place that makes you excited about the future — about coming back, about sharing the experience with friends, and about the beauty of food that brings people together. Mingala doesn’t just serve incredible vegetarian and vegan dishes; it creates moments of joy, with the tea leaf salad standing as a perfect reminder of how special simple, well-made food can be. 🌱✨
The food is amazing. The best tea leaf salad anywhere. Everything is so flavorful. They are super accommodating for vegetarian and vegan requests. We usually order for takeout.
Happy retirement to the owners! 🥲 My wife and I will truly miss this place — our go-to orders were always the sambal fried rice/bee hoon and hor fun. We’re so grateful we managed to eat here four times during your last week of operations, and even got to try dishes beyond our usual favourites. Every meal was comforting, flavourful, and clearly made with heart. Thank you for the amazing food all these years. Wishing you a well-deserved and joyful retirement! ❤️

I found Mingala Restaurant on Yelp when searching for a new Malaysian restaurant in San Jose. Mingala seemed to carry both Burmese and Malaysian food which made me a little hesitant to try it as both these cuisines are very different. However, as it had a solid 4-star rating, I decided to give it a try. I generally get Nasi Lemak at any new Malaysian restaurant that I try. This is a dish that consists of coconut rice, sambal, egg, peanuts, cucumber, onions and a curry which could be either Chicken or Beef, so it gives you a pretty good idea about the overall food at the restaurant. I used the on-line ordering tool on Yelp and got with Nasi Lemak ($10.99) and went with the chick curry (beef curry is $2 more) and landed up there after about 20 minutes. Mingala is in a small strip mall with hardly any parking. I had to hover a while before I got a spot so by the time I got in, it was well over 40 minutes, yet the order was not ready, and I was made to wait another 10 minutes or so before I got my order. This was around 9 pm on a Friday night and the place was about 60% full. I got 2 containers, one with the rice, eggs and salad and another with the chicken curry. The food made up for the long wait. The rice had a rich coconut flavor and even though the portion size of the chicken curry was small it was very tasty. Overall this dish came together very well. As I liked what I got the first time around, I decided to try Mingala again, this time for the Burmese cuisine. Again, as usual I got the Mohinga ($10.99) which is like the national dish of Burma and it consists of a fish-based soup with vermicelli noodles. This time I landed up after 30 minutes to pickup the order, fought for parking and picked it up without any wait. The Mohinga soup was a little runny and lacked the deep fish taste that you expect. The vermicelli noodles looked like they had all clumped up together, but they opened up, when dunked in the soup. Overall this was good not great. I definitely liked the Nasi Lemak more than the Mohinga soup. Price-wise it is pretty cheap with both the dishes being slightly over the $10 mark. Looking at the overall package of cost, quality and service Mingala, definitely gets a thumbs up from me which means I will be back to try more stuff off their menu in due course.
This is not a fancy place. Feels like it's family owned and theyre very nice and attentive. Food is great for the price. It came out fast and hot! I ordered the green curry beef and my husband a beef with veggies dish. He wanted more flavor from his dish but I really liked mine. The rotti with sauce was super good too! I would go back. Nice, super casual, local family owned spot with good portions.
Mingala is a hidden gem in Fremont! Their bak kut teh nails the balance—rich, peppery broth with tender ribs but none of the overpowering herbal “medicine” bite. The hae mee bursts with deep prawn sweetness, every slurp tasting like fresh-boiled shrimp shells in the best way.
We wanted to try Malaysian to see if there is a distinct flavor. It seems like the choices tended to be either Indian or Thai inspired so we looked for food choices that we never had before. We tried Ohn Noh Kaut Swell Soup - seemed more like a thick chowder with noodles, a lot of texture, tasty. We tried Bak Kut Teh - pork and tofu in a tea leaf broth. Finally we tried Tofu Rendang. The flavors were familiar. We regretted not ordering anything fried because we mostly ordered saucy. The two different rice bowls, coconut and yellow, were a particular favorite as well as the roasted peanut. Probably try more noodle dishes for next visit. Service is nice.
A low key spot with Malaysian and Burmese cuisine. The dishes we ordered and my thoughts: - tea leaf salad: not as good as the Burma Love/superstar in the bay but definitely scratched the itch. - prata: could have done with more flakey and lightweight bread but the curry was great and flavorful. Ordering this with the chicken rendang is actually the move and what this dish should’ve been. - sambal fried rice: this was the most disappointing. Expected more flavor. - chaw kuey thow: very good, flavored and authentic - chicken rendang: solid, thigh meat was well cooked. Wish there was a deeper darker curry but what was served was still good

We went for a dinner and four of us. We ordered 4 items from the menu. 1. Burmese Tea Leaf Salad: - It was ok in taste, had a little bit and then found a hair inside it, so returned it and the manager gave the refund. 2. Red Curry Chicken: - It was good, had proper flavors. 3. Sambal Belachen Fried Rice: - This was the best dish on the menu. 4. Roti Parantha (Chicken): - This was the most flavorful dish. Overall staff and service was nice. Restaurant seemed a bit old from tables and cutlery.
Not very authentic Singapore food. Laksa is not what we expect. Hainan chicken is ok but the sauce is not right.
I guess i went in with very high expectations... And it turned out to be just so-so. Mix of Malaysian, Burmese, Thai and Chinese dishes on the menu. We picked mostly Malaysian dishes because that's what we came here for. The tea leaf salad (not pictured) is made with whole fermented tea leaves rather than ground up, which is a nice change from most other burmese restaurants in the area. The roti pratha was flat, very oily, and not fluffed up. Curry was ok, on the sweet side. Kangkung belachan was very heavy on the belachan, otherwise pretty good. Chicken murtabak was a nice surprise. Beef rendang was adequate. House chili tilapia was forgettable, the sauce is just a generic sweet and sour chili sauce. 3 stars because I probably won't make an effort to come here again.
