Avis sur Tacos Ameca Gilroy
We love visiting this place anytime we’re near Gilroy. Their tacos are delicious, they have a salsa bar, mexican Coca Cola (the best), and a variety of original flavor mexican chips. On the weekends they have karaoke which really livens up the place. You have to order first, at the end near the screens, then wait for your number to be shout out and pick up in the kitchen bar. There’s a restroom and all the place is refrigerated, and some seating outside. There’s not a lot of parking for the seating capacity but they do have some. The pastor tacos are our favorite, maybe the best in all Bay Area. Also, the tortillas are made right there and are delicious.
I biked past them two years ago and the line out the door was crazy. Thankfully today I was able to pop in without a fuss and their burrito mojado was worth the wait. Put a little extra salsa on top that was available by the counter. No fatty pieces (went with asada) and it wasn’t full of fillers either. Friendly and efficient staff. Great experience…especially when you’ve been craving something to really sink your teeth into!
We showed up at two minutes to closing and got the best carne asada burrito I've ever enjoyed. So much flavor. Thoughtful and kind service. We got lucky with timing and no one complained. I was so relieved to end up with such a tasty meal after a long drive.
Burrito was so bomb!! Was a little iffy since I’m not from here but omg so good
Best burrito and Taco we have had A unique salsa bar with great salsas and onion/cilantro and salad
Nice place for the whole family, the food excelent
The staff is friendly and the food was amazing! My husband's Ameca burrito was HUGE!! Fed us a couple of times 😁 the tortilla was on the thicker side and seemed a little under cooked, but nothing a bit of heating on our griddle. I can't wait to visit again!
These tacos are some of the best ones I’ve had! They have agua fresca and the Atmosphere feels a lot like Mexico which I love! Tacos are also pretty big and worth every penny!
Needed a quick food fix while waiting for the Greyhound bus to LA...I typed in "street tacos near me" on Google and this is the first place that popped up. So glad I came here too! I payed a decent price for the amount of food I got...sooo much asada lol and of course I finished the whole plate 💯😋
The food was amazing- honestly the best Mexican I’ve had. You can tell that these people know how to cook- delicious homemade thick tortillas, roasted veggies and peppers in their dishes, and fresh grilled pineapple slices. The outside doesn’t look like much, and you might miss it, but it’s worth exiting 101 to get your lunch here.
Great tacos. Sat outside and it was really nice. Service was fast and they had a lot of different toppings. They had a big variety of different foods and it was a quick and easy place to get some delicious tacos.
Great food ! Good prices ! Tasty micheladas!
Their tacos are the best for miles around, hands down.
It’s an absolute crime this place didn’t rank higher when I searched best Mexican food in Gilroy. It’s hard to stand out in this area, from Watsonville to San Jose there is no shortage of insanely good Mexican food. This place is worth a shot, it’s a contender for my favorite place. I had the pastor super burrito with avocado. Their salsa selection is on point, I rarely find a place where there is not one or two but three killer salsas. I had trouble deciding which was my favorite. I will be returning often.
Good food, friendly service, and family atmosphere. Only downside is the parking, but there are a few walkable options nearby and the food is worth the small inconvenience.
Prices are high, but I didn't feel so bad after I saw the portions. Good n plenty! Service was quick!! Yes I would recommend and eat here again. Fresh tortillas, spicy, non spicy salsas, and large portions.
One of the best taco shops in the area. Always freshly cooked.
Only about 3 things I like about Gilroy...and Tacos Ameca in one of them! I was tooling around with Pedro de Alcachofa in his Ragtop 66 Impala SS and he busts out with wanting to go get cheeseburgers! So...I punched him right in the shoulder...hard! And told him "No, we're going to Tacos Ameca and that's it!" I came all the way down here to help you out and eat at Tacos Ameca, so that's where we're going! The tacos were Amazing! 5 stars all day long. ☆☆☆☆☆
The carnitas tacos were so delicious and large portion. Can't wait to try other items from the menu.
Best tacos in the entire bay area, bar none, debate over. Get costillo tacos on weekend. Micheladas are fantastic.
This is second time coming to this restaurant and the food has been fantastic both times. We are from the Fresno area so we can’t go as often as we would like. All the portions are very generous even the taco, rice and beans kids meal that my wife ordered. I made the mistake of ordering 2 carne asada sopes the first time and they were super big. I only ordered one this second time and it was more than enough. We highly recommend this restaurant.
An amazing selection of regional and local favorite dishes, including fish tacos. Speedy service, giant portions, and a variety of salsas, Pico de gallo, limes and homemade sauces. What more to ask for after a day at the Gilroy Outlets?? This place shines with unique compliments to all pallettes. Will visit again soon!
My go to spot for burritos now. The salsa bar has all my fav choices and more fresh than other places I go. The prices are a little up there but you get your moneys worth. The grilled onion and jalapeños cost a little extra on side but so worth it. A lot of places I go don’t offer that or what they do offer isn’t great.
I'm a sucker for bomb tacos and let me tell you, these are probably some of the best tacos you'll try. They have tortillas hechas a mano which make the quality of their food top tier for any Mexican food lovers. They also have a self service condiments bar which is not something you see often with taco stands/Mexican food restaurants but you can basically get as much salsas, Pico de gallo, etc as you want. The tacos are on the bigger side so if you tend to eat 4-5 tacos at taco stands you'll probably be good with just 2. The only down side is probably the parking, that's always a hassle but it helps develop patience and the food makes up for it.
I LOVE THE FACT THAT THE STAFF IN TGE KITCHEN WERE WEARING MASCS WHILE PREPPING THE FOOD! THE FOOD WAS GOOD AND THEIR SALSAS WERE TASTY TOO!
If u want home made tortillas this is the spot. The tacos are huge. Generous portions of meat. Tacos are super filling. Two is like 4 . Especially if u get the beans in them.
Stopping through Gilroy and were happy to discover this gem. The portions are massive and the food was delicious. We ordered a mini quesadilla, a taco bowl, a carne taco, a brisket taco, and a carnitas taco. Highly recommend their brisket and pork tacos. Seriously delicious! There was also a DJ performing some live karaoke, which was fun and made for a lively lunch. Will be sure to always come when we are in the area!
Excellent food, definitely get your money's worth. Great atmosphere with several families around.
Amazing local and authentic Mexican food. You can get traditional dishes along with some unique items. I loved the Mulita which is like a quesadilla. It’s 2 homemade tortillas with meat and cheese inside. Ask for peppers and onions on top. Tacos Ameca reminds me of a corner restaurant in rural Mexico or Central America. Friendly staff, local dishes, and everything is prepared fresh. Make sure you watch the tortillas being made.
We travel through Gilroy, from the Central valley to the bay area on a monthly basis. We look forward to stopping at this award winning location for genuinely authentic Mexican food. Whether you are looking for tender tasty asada, or crispy al pastor...this is the place. We have never had to wait in line more than 5 minutes to order our food. Order your food & sit and watch it being made in the open-kitchen format. You can see your tortillas being pressed & thrown on the hot stove. Everything is made fresh to order. Don't forget to grab some fresh salsa & cucumbers from the self-serve salsa bar. If you can't find a seat inside, there is always seating outside at the picnic tables. Outside you can watch them grill chicken & asada on the grill. Makes my mouth water just thinking about it.
One of my favorite taco places. But by far one of the best. Love their fresh salsa bar too.
A very small Mexican restaurant but the food is the absolute best. My regular is a brisket burrito. My husband goes for the brisket tacos with the grilled jalapeño and onions. They have lots of drink options as well. Decent seating. Parking is terrible. Not the cleanest place but I haven’t seen any sign of pests or bugs so it’s good enough for me!
i went here last night and ordered a carne asada burrito, and omgggg it was so good. i also loved how many salsa options they had

A bit expensive. They used to provide bigger portions for the price. If you don't speak Spanish they can be kind of rude. Parking is a nightmare and so is getting out of the parking lot.
It's good but be ready to pay. I would recommend having any of the tacos or the taco plate of any kind of meat. They have a salad bar and thats a plus in this era, you can have as many lemons as you want, which i appreciate. As i said be ready to pay, you wont pay less than 25 dollars for a good nice hardy meal here. Carnitas or pastor meat is what i like the most.
Decent. Ordered an al pastor taco, suadero taco, and cabeza super burrito with avocado added. Tacos are huge and packed with meat, tortilla is house made. Both meats were pretty good, flavorful and not dry. Super burrito was decent, not one of the best I've had. The ingredients weren't distributed evenly throughout so certain parts tasted better than others. It was nice that they included a side of grilled onions and jalapeños. Prices were reasonable for the portions Theres a self serve salsa bar with cucumbers, pico de gallo, sauces, etc. It's an order at the counter and pick up when they call your number. Open seating. Medium to large size restaurant. It was pretty busy but we were able to find seating. Parking lot is small but there's street parking as well
They need to update their prices online because it is way more expensive when you come in, I wanted to try the Ameca burrito which was listed for $11 but it was $20 when I came here. Friendly service good food but that was the only bad
Delicious tacos. Well served and generous amounts of garnish, cheese and sauces. Really good tacos. I wish the service was a bit better. Case in point, I was told the crunchy chicken tacos I ordered and was charged for were no longer available, instead giving me the option of crunchy potato tacos. No way to discern what other options were available as no menu was displayed anywhere, except on a tiny 4"x6" photograph, pasted 6ft away. Bottom line, make yourself loud and heard.. the tacos are worth it ! 😄
The food is made fresh so it is a bit slow. Hard to understand the process and numbers of orders since on Spanish and thick accent.
Food is fantastic. Can't go wrong there. It is always busy, but can't complain because food is wort it. Itis more on the expensive side and be prepared to pay for everything separately, that's why O gave the 4 star instead of 5. Everything has an added charge apart from the expensive the food already is.
Delicious! I had the al pastor taco plate, the family had pollo and carne asada. The beans were great, but the al pastor was the star of the show. Great selection of salsas, and nice tortillas, too. Would certainly stop in again!
Way better than your average taqueria. This time my Asad was a little dry so 4 stars. My friends food was great. Best taqueria in gilroy hands down.
Many options on the menu👍🏻, but would be better if there was some brief English translation, because I dont understand the language and hence didnt even know what meat options were available. Fortunately, the young girl at the cashier patiently explained the options to me and recommended the marinated pork which I opted for. Service is great here. If you order the tacos, you are basically just given the toppings on top of the plain tacos. You can add your own condiments at the self-service area. I ordered chicken, marinated pork and beef tongue, all 3 meat were cooked nicely. Tacos are soft and soaks up the meat juices, nothing special. The shop looks quite clean with plenty of seating, can accommodate 40 pax as claimed.
The atmosphere was okay, the thing I like about this place is the food I had one taco and it was fabulous. It was a chicken taco I believe. I went in my car and ate it cuz I couldn't wait to eat it. I will definitely go back. I didn't really feel that welcome there . Being from a different ethnic background. I went back today. And my food is absolutely fabulous.Their beans and rice are the best i've ever had. Very courteous and nice service.
If you want a quick bite to eat, you can't go wrong these tacos. Overall, it was great. Pretty pricy.

Stent close to $100 to feed 4 people. Fairly mediocre quality food and pricey for a taco joint. Inside was very crowded and loud.

Surly this place rules ,I enjoy it every time I pass by gilroy..is just pretty awesome.. However I'll give this place all 5 stars but they really lack on CILANTROOOOO..... let's just have some tacos with your CEBOLLA.. good luck if you get some when you asked.. But any way, I would've given it 5 stars
Good Lunch place but very expensive bottle coke $5ea sm apple juice $5ea three of ate it was $90. Little high $$$$
Food is great! Stopped by on a Saturday afternoon and service was a little slow. Table's weren't being cleaned promptly, AC wasn't working too well. Condiment bar should probably be towards the middle for easier access. Parking is a little tricky too. Not sure home made tortillas are all that best for the tacos as they get moist and the tortilla gets wet and rips open.
Last time that I good food had no flavor like before and meat to dry
We tried the beef and chicken tacos with rice/beans. All were good but nothing blew my mind. It's not cheap. Sour cream add on is $2.25 which is kinda nuts. The self service salsa were all pretty tasty. I would go back if I was in that area but not something I would make a trip too.
The restaurant offers convenient parking, which is a plus. Prices are average and the portion sizes are generous. We ordered vegetarian burritos, but they were mostly filled with rice and had minimal beans and other fillings, which was a bit disappointing. The hygiene was okay overall, but the indoor ventilation needs improvement—there was a noticeable amount of meat smoke inside. I would recommend sitting outdoors if possible. The service was average, and while the interior wasn’t extremely dirty, it could have been cleaner. An okay experience, but there’s room for improvement.
The food is 5 stars, the tacos are pricey but big. This place is always packed, you know everything is fresh. The service is okay. For the amount of money this places makes they should do some remolding, their using plastic fold out tables that are good for parties or tailgates, chairs are wobbly, etc. I’m sure they can hire some more people to keep up with the cleaning.
It used to be bomb now it's just average to be honest. Lots of other places in San Jose and when gilroy had trucks there was better around town. prices went up though and portions got smaller and t…
Building and parking lot looks, well… Old and antiquated with an uneasy feeling that it’s not quite as clean as it should be. The inside is big with plenty of inside seating, music playing making me want to say I I I epha epha, berrrrr-ah-ha!!! “That is not a dig at the Business, I really enjoyed the music”. You order at one end of the building and pick up at the other. I ordered a El Pastor Super burrito $9.99 + avocado extra $1.00 in mandarin Jarritos soda $3.50 “total $16 ish” The burrito is huge but the meat was not juicy as I would expect from El Pastor. Also, strangely 1/2 the burrito was room temp, the cheese, avocado and other cold ingredients were on one side and the meat, rice and beans on the other. It reminded me of an old McDonald’s commercial to keep the hot side hot in the cold side cold except in a bad way. Overall the burrito was meh and it came back up so I could revisit the flavors within an hour.
Food was okay but the pricing is ridicules. They try to scam you into paying extra for onions, jalapenos, and cheese, really? At $4.50 taco with NOTHING on it. We like new experiences when traveling but this was a little much. Be sure to brush up on your Spanish if you want to know when they call your number.
Do NOT get the birria here. I was craving for quesabirrias and I ordered one taco thinking it would be small. The taco was the size of their plates. Not a bad thing, but the meat was too tough for birria and the consome was NOT IT AT ALL. It looks like tomato sauce and water, it almost looked like salsa. No deep rich color or flavor like I’m used too! Extremely greasy with no strong flavors. A 4/10 for the food. I did really like the agua horchata and the atmosphere, but I really really wish I didn’t get the birria here. Oh, not to mention it was almost $20!!!! I’ve had amazing birria for waaaaay less.
Burritos are way too pricey 16.00 it’s small and had almost no meat just filler. 2.73 for a bottle of water because the tap water is literally the worst I’ve ever tasted absolutely disgusting I’m assuming all the fountain drinks taste equally delicious. I used to really like this place but I won’t be back
Mid food - tacos are just plain meat and tortilla. Food was super dry. Everything was EXTREMELY over priced and way more than want is listed on the Google menu.
The food was OK I tasted better but the parking is bad and trying to get out is bad being on the conner.
Really delicious authentic mexican cuisine. Cashier has no clue what's on the menu, we asked the girl who was serving food if they could fill up the coke syrup for the machine asked about 7 times for the 2 hours we where there and never got filled up I had to go after eating across the street to the gas station so I could drink what I wanted and food is way over priced I understand the upsale of the extras but it's way over priced for what it is, what a shame sad to say but we will not be returning here, better off at a taco truck.
The photos are amazing! We’d never been here before, but were encouraged by the dining room being so busy—and we were famished! My daughter failed to eat her Birria Taco Plate, stating that it tasted off from others she’s experienced. Needless to say, she didn’t eat much. I, on the other hand, had the Taco Plate Verde and found it delicious. The fountain drinks, particularly the lemonade, had a peculiar flavor to it, as if the machine houses bacteria. And the satisfying Taco Plate Verde was less satisfying when I was forced to speed to the nearest restroom, after we left. I felt better about 45 minutes and 10 lbs. less—and was forced to abandon clothing on a public park bathroom. 😭 Unfortunately, it isn’t an activity I plan to repeat. And I’m a little jealous of my daughter who didn’t eat much.
No flavor, expensive, they are huge though, salsas no flavor, disappointing, tortillas are made at the moment
I Tried to call to clarify whether the chips were gluten free. After asking my question they said one moment please, like they were busy or didn't understand and put me on hold for 10 minutes. I finally hung up and tried to call back, but they seemed to have blocked my number. This was very rude. I had no attitude, just wanted to understand whether food was safe for an allergy.
Went here because a trusted taco lover friend of mine highly recommended it. I think he may have been a little intoxicated when he mentioned this place to me. It was AWFUL! FIRST, parking is ridiculous. Just park down the street if you go, save your soul. SECOND, the lady was screaming the order numbers in such a horrific way she made my ears actually ring. THIRD, THE LINGUA SMELLED ROTTEN AND WAS CUT WAY TOO BIG, DISGUSTING. FOURTH, By the time we sat down to eat these amazing hand made tortillas were completely SOGGY NOTHING STAYED IN AND IT ALL FELL ONTO THE PLATE. The FIFTH and not final annoyance was this live music person they had, it sounded so incredibly bad, the pitch was wrong and way too loud for the speakers. The man singing was trying his best but that wasn't the problems, the sound machines and speakers are busted. Not an atmosphere I would want my enemy to eat a meal in. Lastly, their salsa area was a joke. The cups where way too small and didn't even hold the limes or cucumbers. Just madness. I Will Never Return Disgraceful to all tacos. Yuck.
Over priced for it being a taco spot. Food is basic but crazy prices
I spent 13 dollars on a burrito just for it to be so small. So many other places charge less, or similar prices for much more food. I have no idea why their portions seem to get smaller and smaller every time I visit. Prices keep going up, and portions are decreasing. Does not seem right to me.
To spendsive for what they offer. The service is the worse. First time here and never coming back. Ha the food was okay. Some of it way to salty. Spent 80 dollars on tacos. When my mom asked for 1 extra tortilla, they told her to go back in line to order it. Never seen a Mexican restaurant do that in my life. Specially after spending 80 dollars. The restaurant was dirty and the condiments were minimal and dirty. Overall, all my family wasn't pleased with dining here and won't be coming back. Hopefully they make changes.
I normally don’t write reviews but I had to this time.. I’m soo shocked that this place can even charge for what they gave us. For the record, I LOVE this taqueria it’s delicious every time but since covid they skimp! We ordered a side of rice and beans and when we opened the container they gave us literally a handful of each. The containers cost more for them than the food inside! So we called to let them know and the lady really said that’s how it comes.. they only give 3-4oz of rice/beans but charge $4 each. I mean rice and beans are the cheapest thing they serve so I would expect to get enough for at least 3 people to have as a side. I’ve been going to this place for years and never had an experience like this. It’s a shame but I won’t be giving them my business anymore.
Inside, there are enough tables to sit. An employee continually cleaned the floor and tables for the customers while music played. While in line, I noticed 2 people were able to go in with their bicycles. The food menu is plentiful but seems too expensive. The lady at the register was patient and helpful in guiding me to choose even with many people waiting to order. I was charged for added toppings like avocado and other things that they charged for without telling me. I ordered two types of meat and a soda which are priced as much as a meal! All the workers were focused on their work so the service was quick: we didn't have to wait long to get our food. They only have 1 restroom for everyone which was disappointing when I went to go wash my hands. Unfortunately, the food had no flavor like water. I was going to let the expensive price of the food slide for the flavor but once I tasted the food it disappointed me. Never in my life did Mexican food let me down. I tried to make up for it with the food bar that had all the amenities (salsas, pico de gallo, cebolla y cilantro, límon) and was clean but like the food - the salsas had no flavor! - which turned this food experience completely upside down. If you want quantity over flavor this is the place for you other than that, stay away. I will be going back to give it another shot but as of right now, the expensive bland food will keep me away for a while.
Over priced, meat too dry and they charge extra for toppings (diced onions, cilantro etc).. Paid $2.25 for side of avocado and got 3 thin slices that wasn’t enough for even a quarter of my quesadilla. The Birria taco was absolutely disgusting! Looked NOTHING like how other restaurants serve it. They charged me extra $6 for the Birria sauce and all I got was nasty beef broth instead, see picture included. Spent over $70 for 1 carne quesadilla, 1 shrimp taco, 2 fish tacos, 1 birria taco and 2 cokes. Complete waste of money. I don’t know how this place stays so busy with the price gouging, small portions, and low quality food. The cashier was nice so 1 star because of her and zero stars for the food and pricing.
We had lunch 3 people 4 tacos and a water .we pay 48.00 dlrs for the place unclean horrible no flavor. Never to come back.
This place nickle and dimes you on everything. We got 4 tacos a quesadilla and a soda for $50! When I checked the receipt they had charged us for beans, a chile, some onions, sour cream and cheese! They will ask if you want this at the register but not tell you that they will charge you. 2 dollars for a dollop of sour cream? Outrageous. At the end of the day it made me sad getting nickle and dimed by my own people needless to say I won't be back and most definitely won't be recommending.
This was the most disgusting food we have had, and frankly i wish i was exaggerating. I’m out 70 something dollars on food we threw away. They stacked these big tacos on each other, to the point it just looked like they didn’t care. They stuck on each other and looked like a mess. Visually it was not appetizing and I was mad for the amount we paid, that no care was given. At all. My sisters plate was worse, I forgot to take her pic. AND We NEVER got our Cebiollas and chilis that we were charged for. So ridiculous paying for Advocado and they looked like that! I eat tacos all the time and I never felt sick from an experience like this. So expensive for mediocre service. Look at the charges! For beans!??? I want to call my bank and ask for my money but we don’t live in that type of world. I’m beyond mad.
