Today was our first visit to House of Gods Restaurant in Glasgow. We had been looking forward to our lunch after some shopping. The website shows a very atmospheric atmosphere but the Sacred Garden Restaurant is like sitting in a fish bowl with wall to ceiling glass windows. The view from the Sacred Garden is not at all good, all you see is rooftops of the nearby buildings and multi storey car park. Our reception was friendly enough we were shown to our table and ordered some drinks. I asked our server if the could get something to put under the foot of our table as it was very wobbly. He never returned. I asked the server that brought our drinks if I could have someting to place under the foot of the table, again they never came back, I eventually placed a folded napking under the foot to stabilise the table. All this before the food arrived. The menu looked good with many good dishes to pick from, they are about tapas size. Our food arrived and to be honest was very underwhelming! The prawn & chorizo dish was just bland, the pork belly was really tough. The beef short rib croquettes were tasty. My wife said the blue cheese doughnut was nice. Overall the food was very mediocre, good pub food at best. Saying this the prices are very reasonable. On a final note I do not like restaurants that add on a tip! I'll tip what I feel is equal to the service that we receive. All in, our visit probably lasted about 50 minutes! Very rarely do we not have a bottle of wine with our meal, but we knew we wouldn't be staying long enough to share a bottle. Do I recommend House of Gods Sacred Garden, unfortunately no, it just does not live up to the hype and website. There are far better restaurants in the area.
