Avis sur Sergio's Grass Valley
As an Israeli and a die-hard foodie, I usually turn into a bit of a food snob when it comes to Mediterranean dishes. But this hidden gem I found in Grass Valley knocked my socks off! Imagine walking into a place that feels like a friend's cozy kitchen in the heart of the Mediterranean. That's the vibe here. And the menu? Oh boy, it's like a love letter to food! Now, let's talk Malabi. Normally, it's this dessert made with rice, sugar, and milk - nothing to write home about. But Chef Alon? He's done something wicked cool with it. Picture a raw, gluten-free, sugar-free, dairy-free Malabi that's actually GOOD. No kidding! It's almost like what I eat when I'm back east, but with a wild, healthy twist. I scarfed down that dessert (check out the pic of the devoured Malabi!), and it was like high-fiving my taste buds. This Malabi isn't just dessert; it's like a party in your mouth. You can taste the creativity, love, and some kind of delicious magic. I left that place with a big ol' smile, already planning my next trip back. And that Malabi? You bet I'm having it again. Heck, you could eat it every day, and your taste buds would throw you a parade. So if you're around Grass Valley and looking for some food fun, drop by. And tell them the snobbish Israeli food critic sent you!
The food is delectable, different tastes like bitter, sour and sweet all taken like a gorgeous mixture. Their falafel and Lamb is THE best, and honestly their bread and chocolate dairy free Mousse was fantastic.
Was there for the first time with a friend for lunch. The food was very tasty and the recommendation for the plates were spot on. New place to go for lunch for sure!
I first experienced Alon and Tal's food at the farmers market in Nevada City and would always stop by and get a falafel pita each week. I'm glad they opened a store front to enjoy their food at! You can't go wrong with the beef/lamb Schwarma or I love their paleo bowl. All the flavors are so bright, fresh and you feel great after eating there. Definitely one of my favorite spots in all of Nevada County.
I had the Beef and Lamb Shawarma. It was delicious and the flavors pop in your mouth. A great blend of seasonings and texture. I highly recommending eating here. I also had the dessert ; malabi with pistachio crumble with a sweet rose water syrup; it was very unique but tasty. Then the Red Infusion is a delightful hibiscus tea with a limeade. Very refreshing.
It’s so wonderful to find a healthy, conscious eatery in Grass Valley! Super casual and clean place, the staff were kind and welcoming and they answered all of our questions. The food itself is 🤌🤌🤌! *chefs kiss* everything tastes fresh and is made from scratch. This crew knows what they’re doing! Highly recommend if you’re looking for an easy place to grab lunch that’s delicious and doesn’t break the bank. ☺️
Love the food, always fresh, tasty, authentic, and very generous portions. Service is quick and the stuff super friendly. I bring friends and family and my retreats guests, and they are always delighted.
OMG!!!! I’m picky and vegan so as most vegans know and even vegetarians its hard to find a dish at a restaurant that is loaded with flavor and healthy too. My only complaint would be that I wish they had a location where I live!!!! I am here from out of town and I would eat here often if I lived here. Really bummed I wont experience this amazing food again. I had the vegan bowl and every bite had amazing and different flavors, so many flavors and the falafel balls were sooooo flavorful as well. I guess if I had to come up with anything else it would be that they offered a half bowl. The vegan bowl was massive. Great bowl to share with a friend but definitely too much for one person without stuffing yourself. Of all the restaurants I have tried in Grass Valley during my stay here this is the best! Top notch healthy and flavorful food. Something that is rare for a health conscious person like myself.
One of my favorite places downtown! Great food! Never have had a bad meal here and eat here several times a month! Keep up the good work!
Really good chicken shwarma. Bowls are amazing. Spiralized water. Yum
Downtown Grass Valley is a special place and Meze' is one of our favorite stops. You can dine inside their newly expanded space or out on the patio, which is like a "parklet". Enjoy the seasonal decorations and watch the people and pups stroll by. The food is fresh and beautiful works of art. Meze' is owned by the sweetest folks, always a joy to see their friendly smiles. We highly recommend this unique spot.
I wish I could have taken a pic of my meal but baby it did not last on the plate! Chelsea was on fire on the line, the woman moves with finesse. Mac was super friendly and helped me decipher the menu. The way she described each dish honestly made it hard to pick. It all sounded so good. These ladies deserve a raise. I will be back to Meze next time I'm in town.
I feel like I’m eating at home in Israel. Their food is so so good. The best falafel, salads, and pitas in town. Literally! Very authentic. I drive 45 minutes just to come here & it’s worth it every time 10/10
Meze catered our rehearsal dinner for our wedding at a private residence. They were very easy to work throughout the experience. They came early to set up. All the food was beautifully presented with labels in the kitchen. The food was the same excellent quality as it is in their restaurant. I would most certainly hire them again!
Such a great healthy option when eating out. I had their vegan bowl and my husband had their chicken plate. Both had sauerkraut, which I don’t think is traditional but with all research coming out about healthy gut biome I was pleased to see it. Everything was delicious finished it off with a key lime cup that was really good and not overly sweet.
Wonderful Mediterranean fare with a strong Israeli influence. As close as you can get to Jerusalem in California!
"The fluffiest pita ever" Everything was so tasty and fresh! Shared a plate and ordered and extra pita. Would definitely come again.
Amazing food! Ordered Sabich Plates and Chicken shawarma. Home made pita. 😌
I am happy to see more ethnic food in small town Grass Valley. They make THE best falafel! The hummus bowl is huge and perfect for sharing with a friend or two. The restaurant is comfortable and clean. I love the water dispenser for customers. It is useful and ornate.
My Hummus bowl with chicken and my wife’s Falafel platter yesterday afternoon were delicious. A side of beets complemented both. We left satisfied and will return.
Fresh, healthy, beautiful food that is so tasty. Delicious dips. Super kind staff. I went twice on my two day visit!
This place is an absolute banger! No it’s not fine dining. No they don’t have table service. But this is best lunch counter in the area and probably is a top 3 restaurant in the whole Grass Valley / Nevada City area. Everything here is super fresh, bright, colorful, and super tasty. Israeli Mediterranean at the highest level. Tons of healthy options. It’s hard to pick favorites. But we routinely get the Paleo Bowl and Falafel Dip Plate.
Amazing food. Great vibe. Authentic Mediterranean food. Highly recommended
Phenomenal food and experience. Fresh pita bread is baked daily on the spot. Hands made falafel like you would expect in an authentic Mediterranean restaurant. A real gem in Grass Valley!
Very delicious hummus, soups, and standard Middle Eastern food cooked by beautiful women. Good falafel; not too salty. There are places where I always order the same thing, but here, I will be back to try most of the food on the menu.
Great food, loved the Vegan Bowl all the parts fit together so well. The flavor profile of the sauces was top notch, the falafel was crispy on the outside and moist inside, and the key lime pie was sweet and tart. All I can say is, I'll be back every time I visit the area.
Incredible paleo bowl! So colorful and flavorful… Really piqued the senses. Delightful service and atmosphere .
Everything I have had is delicious and fresh. The Sabich bowl was fantastic with so many different items for variety and flavor. The fried eggplant is the ultimate comfort food. They also have gluten free and vegan options.
Such a lovely authentic mediterranean restaurant in Grass Valley. They also had a day old bag of pitas and they were so good to make more pita sandwiches.
Delicious food and really quaint and comfortable seating.

Can’t ask for much more when you’re sitting on that beautiful patio on mill street on a cool clear day and eating some of the best damn falafel you’ve ever had. Everything else we had great as well, but that falafel needs to get shot into space because it was just out of this world good!
I moved away a couple years ago, but I never left a review about how great this place is. It’s easily the best organic heady restaurant in the area. They also stood up to some seriously stupidness during the COVID years and i remembered that today and really appreciated it so I thought I’d come back and give them a good review. Good on you dudes!
The best Mediterranean food I’ve ever tried. I’ve never had anything of this quality, even in European countries like Spain or Germany — nothing comes close to Meze. The best falafel, hummus, and overall flavor I’ve experienced anywhere in the world so far.

The food was fresh and homemade but we didn’t like some of the flavors. The chicken schwarma was bland and the other additions to the plate didn’t really add much flavor. The hummus was meh, and the rice was decent. The beef/lamb schwarma had more flavor and was enjoyable. The service was fast and the interior is nice and cozy. I had the chicken schwarma pita on another occasion and enjoyed it, so I’d probably get that again over the schwarma plate. Still quality food but not large portions on the meat for the price.
Mediterranean food. Absolutely loved the Red Fusion drink. Good flavor, excellent quality. The pita was kind of thick for our liking. Friendly service and pretty cool set up. Seems popular. Lots of people eating there. Wasn’t enough seating for our group.
I wish I could give 4.5 stars. First visit, very large menu. Counter service. Indoor and outdoor seating. Very little street parking but a nice free city parking lot just a block away. My wife ordered a half pita chicken shawarma that she enjoyed very much. It is very nice that they offer half pitas. The pita bread was very fresh. I ordered a beef and lamb kabob pita. Very tasty, lots of veggies. I almost thought that they gave me the wrong order because the first thing on top was a falafel piece. It was very tasty. But that was a bonus, the meat was further down. The meat was also very tasty, but I wasn’t expecting it to be ground meat. I was thinking chunks of meat. So I’m taking a star off. Nice place, food made fresh to order, I would come back , but I would order something else.

The environment was great and people were friendly. Now here is the “however”... I ordered the chicken shawarma pita, the full size one. The top 1/4 of the sandwich had very tasty chicken and the other 3/4 was some sort of a salad with no taste. I would have rather ate the stack of napkins next the sandwich. I only had the pita and a “shot” of water for over 14 dollars! Walked out hungry, but as we left we saw a huge line. So apparently a lot of people like the place. The other person I was there with kinda enjoyed the meal but also left hungry. They played one song while we were there, and that was kinda weird. After the song was over, it was just ambient noise again. I think this is your place if you are trying to be edgy or conscious and progressive. You can then tell your Ugg wearing social media trend setters that you ate there for a few likes. A couple selfies in the downtown setting and you have a Facebook story. But if your hungry, go somewhere else.
We ordered 2 full Shwarmas and 1 full Kebab and got 3 identical sandwiches. None of them were labeled, so I don't know what the difference is between their Shwarmas and their Kebabs. I've had Syrian and Tunisian Shwarmas before, and what they serve here are not Shwarmas, but closer to the European varient of Kebabs. Falafel ball was a nice touch, and added a touch of traditional Middle Eastern element. However, there were far more greens then meat in them, and the sauces they put inside are incredibly strong. Also, everything was cold. It's honestly not the best "Middle Eastern" food I've had. I'll check with my Iraqi friend, but I'm fairly confident this is not true Middle Eastern food, but a Western varient, especially considering that I didn't see one Middle Eastern person amongst the staff. Definitely a bit overpriced for the quality and the customer service isn't the best. We were honestly SHOCKED by the appearance of the staff members!
Not very good, the food is not seasoned enough and it doesn't taste like Mediterranean food at all, we were looking for the meat inside the kebab and the shawarma plate(which is made with simple ground beef) because the portions of meat are VERY small. We were still hungry after the meal and the baklava was tasting pretty weird. And when we asked for water to drink, we got glasses of hot water... Not worthy, expensive, and not very tasty
The food was awful and it was dried out and no taste, for the cost that I spent on the meal that was very bland. It was also very very tight and small places to sit you felt like you were in a sardine can. It needs to be more space. It should have been an ice cream shop because of how small it was. I will never go back to a place that was so bad. I have already told my friends and family about this place. They will not even step foot in this place either.
