Absolutely fantastic. They were very sympathetic to tourists but also very authentic food.

This restaurant is a must I absolutely love this place and every time I visit Haro I go there. They have got brilliant "menus del dia" which include starter, main, dessert and of course bread on the side. They offer excellent value for money and the quality of the food is just outstanding, not to mention their customer service, highly recommended. Thank you!

We visited Haro in our Motorhome heading North towards Santander. We went to the old town of Haro and came across a lovely restaurant/Pintxos bar called Beethoven. We were served by Elina who spoke better English than my Spanish and she gave us great advice on different Pintxos and matching wines . Great value, service and food. Thank you Elina!

R

The food was delicious and the staff were so friendly! We would recommend the mushroom in wine, mushroom in a bag and if you would like to eat some vegetables: the salad! Thanks for everything!

My daughter and I had a lovely, relaxed Sunday night dinner here of grilled baby lamb chops, beef tenderloin, garlic soup, and Rioja style potatoes with chorizo. The food was excellent and the meats were perfectly grilled; very reasonable prices for the quality of the food. And of course, we had a wonderful Rioja wine with the meal!!! Friendly service too!

Highly recommended. After cycling all day, we were starving; desperate to find dinner, not just pintxos, on a Monday, when almost everything was closed. Came upon Beethoven II, and were SO happy we did. Had bread with olive oil & salt, “Ensalada Ilustrada” and a veal chop plus a small bottle of Viña Real. $35. Perfect for the 2 of us. Loved our waitress. So happy we left a tip. 🌸

This is our second visit to Beethoven. A very busy vibrant restaurant/bar. We walked in and unbelievably Elena recognised us from last year. Her welcoming attitude, great advise on tapas and wine made our afternoon very special. See you next year Elena . Thoroughly recommend 🥳🥳

A wonderful restaurant in Haro featuring local food. We stayed in Haro for 2 days to explore the region and we wandered in on a Wednesday night. Our service was impeccable, and the food was delicious. Highly recommended! We had a bottle of wine, the wild mushrooms, lamb chops, beans with chorizo (you have to try this because it’s a local dish and so well executed here), and a dessert. I don’t know what the dessert was called; we just saw it at another table and just asked for it, and it was incredible.

91/100 - I read other negative reviews here, but I disagree. The place is a little expensive by Spanish standards, but you have understand what you're paying for. This restaurant is a very old family run business and is a local institution. They have expanded the business well, now including 3 restaurants and accommodation in the city centre. They serve excellent authentic food by local people. Sure, many of the staff do not speak English, but it's the same everywhere in Spain outside of the main cities/tourist traps. If you want to experience the real Spain this is the price you pay. Learn a few words before you come and it will take you a long way. Anyway - to the food: Starters: Patatas con Chorizo a la Riojana - 8/10 Morchilla y Chorizo fritto con Pimentos - 6/10 Mains: Solomino de Ternera - 7/10 Corderito Lechal Asado - 8/10 Wine: Botega La Rioja Alta Bikaña - 10/10 One of the best wines I've ever had, and only available locally! Happy Eating!

There are many very good tapas bars in lovely Haro. But you shouldn't miss out on this. It's not just a tapas bar, but also full restaurant with an interesting menu. But we came for the Tapas. On weekends it can get pretty packed, but it's well worth the wait. We had our Bulldog with. Dogs are not allowed inside, but luckily they don't mind if you sit inside the entrance hall or stand at one of the tables in the entrance hall (good if it rains). And that's really fair enough and we were happy to enjoy these excellent Tapas when our dog was with. The Tapas here come with interesting twist and are divine. Some of the best Tapa creations we've ever came across. And the prices are still quite low. Great wine as well (try the white Muga). There are Tapas like shrimp inside a crispy spring roll dough, Bacalau topped with jamon and asparagus, meat croqueta topped with mayo and crispy onions. And there are many more....all looking fantastic. But couldn't try them all (a good reason to come back one day). They also serve small plates. We tried the frog legs in sauce, and as the Tapas they were perfectly cooked and tender. And for the price they sell them quite the steal. All in all wonderful restaurant with the most excellent Tapas. Definitely one of the great ones this place. We will be back.

They took great care of us. We arrived early and one of the servers informed us I reservation was there. We had some appetizers and wine before were seated. Had the stuffed peppers with mushrooms and stewed vegetables for hot appetizer and the the sirloin with fries for main course. Fantastic meal!

Amazing experience. We first arrived at 14h15 (closing is listed at 15h so I was worried). A young waiter told me that there was no way of getting in at this point without a reservation. I panicked in the doorway as I searched for a plan B a waitress came and asked if we needed help. I explained the situation (in my poor Spanish, which I think she appreciated) and she led us to the bar where we met another server who was seemingly happy to speak Spanish with us. She had short dark hair - I didn’t catch her name. She was lovely ! The experience that followed was a delightful gastronomic journey though the Rioja region. We followed all of her suggestions and ordered wine and beer. Everything was wonderful and the price was more than correct. Five stars. Must visit if you you can and try to be there closer to the opening and or reserve to avoid playing with the chance of getting a table. Five stars

This is a classic Haro restaurant experience. One can order from the counter and eat in a relaxed café setting, or request to be seated in the formal area and be served professionally. The waitress Ellie was very professional with her recommendations and service. She was also charming. The hake fish dish was excellent. Highly recommend.

Beethoven 1 is mainly a tapas/pincho bar, although meals are available. The range of food on offer is awesome and very tasty, from basic croquetas to frogs' legs. Beers, wines, ciders etc are also excellent choices (I particularly like the Rioja Alta Bikaña Crianza). In the 'horseshoe' (herradura) area of bars just above the main square, this is one of my favourites.

Food was amazing..... we ordered the 1kg steak.... chuleton.... medium rare.... as the pan it's served on us hot so the meat is still cooking..... Beautiful establishment.... but servers don't speak English and seemed frustrated when they could not understand..... no server smiled.... but the steak made up for it..... Would deff revisit the place ...... A must visit

Great value 22 euro menu for four courses of hearty traditional Spanish food...including wine, bread and water! Lovely waitress, pleasant decor and toilets and no fuss. Rioja keeps calling us back, and we will come to this restaurant again...and maybe try the more special menu.

We went for dinner on a Sunday night the restaurant looked as if it was closed, at 8.30 a sweet little lady came out and unlocked the door and told everyone waiting it would not be long, they opened the doors and all the staff were waiting with prepared tapas on the bar with in 10 min the place was packed with locals. We had a few tapas and wine which were lovely and ordered the vegetable stew and beef cheek for dinner. The vegetable stew was amazing both my husband and I agreed a stand out dish. It was peas, snow peas, artichoke zucchini carrot and potato in a tasty sauce. The beef cheek was nice as well, other diners ordered steak which looked amazing. The staff were very helpful we speak no Spanish at all but they helped us with what to order. Great atmosphere. There are 2 restaurants both called Beethoven across from each other one is seated table service and the other is counter service we stayed in the counter service side - would recommend. Forgot to take photos of the veggies. This is half eaten beef cheeks below.

A relatively good place. We ordered a potato with chorizo, going with 2 bread; a grilled lamp, an iberiaco pork, with a bottle of Muga cava. The potato is of huge amount, when eat with bread you’ll easily feel full. The grilled lamp and pork is nice, but the fries is not well fried. The price is a bit expensive compared with the restaurant around, but it’s still ok.

Love the classic tavern vibe and history of this restaurant but the food fell very short especially for the prices which seem inflated. We got the asparagus, vegetable stew and veal and found all to be very mediocre.

I thought the food was expensive for what it was, maybe if we had eaten in there restaurant opposite it would have been better. We had roast Lamb which was very fatty and it did not come with anything else no vegetables just a couple of wafer thin slices of potato. The waitress although efficient didn't make us feel very welcome.

T
Trevor

Some of the dishes are good, such as the bean soup and lamb shank, others, like the lamb chops and mushroom appetizer were very salty. Our waitress was overwhelmed and I felt sorry for her, but not being able to get a glass of water until halfway through the meal, amount other things definitely won't have us coming back.

T
Tim W

Wine was very good but could not buy by the glass. Service and food was just about ok, but not great value for money. We have had much better food and experience elsewhere in Spain for a lot less cost. We won’t plan on going back with so many other places to choose from.

Very nice place! We had very taste meals indeed, however, the waiter was so rude. He barely talk to us, served the food without asking whose plate was and therefore placing them wrong. He didn’t smile or look at us at any moment and every time we asked for something, it looked like we were bothering him. Sad cos the place was very cool. I guess that wasn’t the waiter best day…

Staff at bar where ridiculously rude to us. We made a reservation to sit down and eat and there were not called when the table was ready. When we asked we were told "you should have told is you were ready for your table!". Then the waiting staff for the meal where overly friendly and wanted to stay and chat while we ate. I doubt I'll ever go back here.

Place was recommended by hotel staff and unfortunate we didn’t have a great dinner experience here. Maybe it was our fault as we couldn’t decide fast and needed more time but the waitress seems to be irritated by our indecisive moment and didn’t help either on recommendations. She barely speaks English and didn’t understand when my partner speaks Spanish to her. I had lamb chops, there was barely meat and mostly fat but luckily the little meat on the bone did taste good. Fries was drained with oil. Duck was good but a bit overgrilled. Dessert was yummie except for the chocolate sauce that didn’t really taste like chocolate. The dinner experience was mostly demolished by the hospitality of our waitress which was far from friendly

Good food but poorly sized portions, served promptly by rude waiter. We ended up buying more food and cooking at home afterwards to make up for the “minimalist” portions. Wouldn’t come back despite it being very tasty. Only 2 veg options.

Surly, unhelpful staff. I asked if it was table service, in Spanish, and was told to order at the bar. Waited at the bar for 10mins to order. Tried to draw attention in Spanish. Ola. Perdon. ¿Hago un pedido aquí? My Spanish isn't great, but I've got by until now, even had a couple of compliments. Just got surly looks here, and a refusal to make eye contact. I guess the food must be so good that they don't have to try. We'll never know. 😞

Hardly any atmosphere. I had Hake loin with prawns. The hake was lovely but was in a sauce that was watery and tasteless, the prawns were cold and tasted as just defrosted. My wife had veal cheeks that were ok, nothing special, and veal cheeks was all you got. This was the most expensive meal that has been the worst since our 3 weeks in France, Portugal and Spain. Very disappointed.

The food in this restaurant is simply aweful! I ordered pork shoulder which was undercooked meet. When I complained I could not understand the response since the staff does not speak English. The wine was really bad very acidic. I would not go back to this plače under any circumstance. Avoid it like a plague.

If Dante had envisioned a culinary circle of hell, Beethoven II in Haro, Spain, would be its crowning jewel. Garnering a misleading 4.3 stars on Google Reviews, this establishment proudly touts its "authentic local cuisine." However, my recent visit revealed a dining experience so dreadful, it could only be described as a tragicomedy of errors. The journey began with a warm, albeit misleading welcome from the staff. Incredibly rude, they exhibited the charm of Soviet-era bureaucrats, efficiently crushing any initial enthusiasm. The decor mirrored this demeanor perfectly: imagine stepping into a time capsule from a dreary 1970s Eastern Bloc cafeteria. Perusing the menu, I dared to hope. The descriptions were intriguing, promising a culinary adventure. Alas, what followed was a descent into gastronomic purgatory. I ordered ham, mushroom, and prawn croquettes, only to be served fish croquettes. This bait-and-switch set the tone for the rest of the meal. Next came the "fresh salad," which turned out to be a bland assortment of boiled mixed vegetables. Less flavorful than the dirt from which they were presumably plucked, this dish was an affront to salads everywhere. The garlic prawns, minuscule in size and frozen in taste, were so unappetizing that I briefly contemplated the possibility of food poisoning. The pièce de résistance, however, was the patatas bravas. When we ordered, the waitress warned us that they were hard to share—a cryptic remark that soon made horrifying sense. The patatas bravas arrived in soup form, a greasy concoction accompanied by two inexplicable fried prawns. Since when does patatas bravas equate to a bewildering soup? This dish was a surreal, culinary travesty, defying both tradition and logic. The grand total for this abominable experience was 81 Euros, a fee that felt like a blessing if it meant escaping the rest of the meal. I would happily pay 100 Euros just to avoid ever setting foot in Beethoven II again. In conclusion, Beethoven II is a masterclass in misleading advertising. If you cherish your palate and sanity, steer clear of this restaurant. Its claim to authentic local cuisine is as hollow as the echo of my footsteps hastily exiting its premises. Beethoven himself would turn in his grave at the thought of his name being associated with such a culinary catastrophe.
