Disclaimer: I am one of those unfortunate souls who Cilantro tastes like soap (flat out Dial) so that being said, there isn't a whole bunch of options without Cilantro. However, they do offer a table side guacamole that can come without Cilantro and it is fabulous! They make it with fresh jalapeños so it's on the spicy side but that's what I like so I'm happy. You can mix and match a few of their street tacos and they are all great. They have drink specials almost every night and their Champagne Disaster is amazing!! Live bands play often and the music selection will have something for everyone. All in all, highly recommend trying it out if you haven't yet!
If you’re in Houma and craving Mexican food that’s both tasty and authentic, you have to check out La Carrera. I ordered the sizzling steak fajitas, and they were absolutely delicious! The steak was tender, flavorful, and seasoned perfectly. The plate in the background (which I couldn’t resist trying) had fluffy rice, hearty beans, and a scoop of fresh guacamole. Everything tasted homemade, and the chips were warm and crispy, just the way I like them. And to top it all off, they had cold Coronas that paired perfectly with the meal. The service was friendly and attentive, and the portions were generous. Whether you’re a local or just passing through, La Carrera is definitely worth a visit. Your taste buds will thank you!
This place is definitely a great pick if you eat a lot or are sharing food with family members or loved ones, the wait staff are active and attentive, and the quality of the food beats out the price of it!
Great food, Great service!
My Carnita's were amazing! Everything was fresh & man the Salsa was too good. You guys gained a new customer. The host was really helpful also.
Taco Tuesday! A fun night out with good tacos, cold beer and very reasonable price. Great place to meet with friends but go early or bring your patience because good news travels among the hungry and they're all coming!
2 dollar tacos on Taco Tuesday with bottomless chips and salsa makes this place a great value! Not to mention, the food is good! If it's nice, sit out on the patio, it's great!
I've never had a bad experience here. The patio area is always comfortable. I had the steak fajitas and they were fantastic.
Very good customer service and me and my wife really enjoyed the food. Overall great experience. Definitely worth checking out.
Great place for a meal or a quick bite. Clean restaurant and attentive staff. I would recommend for a family dinner or date night.
Friendly staff and great food. Tuesdays bring $2 tacos (beef, fish, shrimp, etc.), with a specialty taco featured each week- think Buffalo Chicken or Fried Oyster (trust me on this one). The bar is a good spot to watch the game and the patio is great for dinner with friends. They also regularly bring in live music to entertain. If you're looking for some good grub and a fun atmosphere, look no further.
La Carreta is a nice place especially over by the man-made waterfall on the back patio I don't care about drinking so much but the food is good I don't necessary concentrate on drinking aspect of social life they have some live music sometimes. But overall I have to say a fairly romantic experience can be had. Servers are usually very confident and friendly. I would not recommend getting the tacos they are rather small but the burritos are nice. Platters nice, chips are excellent. Queso is quite good
The place was packed inside and out. But the hostesses were great finding us a table after we received some really bad news before getting there. Our waitress was wonderful always coming by to check and make sure if we needed anything. And the food was soon great!! We will be back.
Came on a Thursday night. They had live music outside. The waitress was really informative about teh menu and she was on point with quick service. Our food was delivered really quick. The kid menu portion is big!
LOVE Taco Tuesday! $2 tacos?! You can't beat it! I like sitting on the patio near the water feature when the weather is nice - very relaxing! The staff is always incredibly professional and courteous.
Great food .. Great service... Great times.!! We had over 36 in our group and the girls did an amazing job taking care of each of us.! The drinks were great and the food was delicious.!! 👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼
The food was fresh and both trips my servers were friendly. I loved the salsa you could taste the fresh ingredients in every bite. My order was affordable and plated well, which I love because we eat first with our eyes; right! Generous portion sizes and fresh food prepared correctly is a win, win situation. Their shrimp are large and local. Try their shrimp quesadillas. They're great!
I had an amazing experience here. The food, music, and drinks were great!
Service was impeccable, wait staff top notch! Thibodaux & Co. Was playing and we had such a blast! Great music and great food. Definitely gonna go back if they have these guys playing again. Super talented they will go far
Absolutely the best place in houma to grab drinks and fabulous Mexican food. Taco Tuesday is a must if you have not tried this place, cant beat 2.00 tacos on Tuesday and 2.50 16 oz. Draft beers. Also, they always have the best service not to mention all the chips and salsa you want with your meal. This place gets even better when they have a live band. If you are on in the mood for Mexican La Carreta is a must without a doubt. 5 stars all the time
When visiting LaCarreta, ask for Laura J. She made our dining experience fantastic! What a great personality.
Laura was amazing!! She made my birthday feel so special. So sweet.
The large outdoor patio area has an amazing atmosphere with an amazing line up of live music from Thursday through Sunday. The food is always good and very consistent. The service is usually great with attentive servers. Over the past few years Bailey B. Is our choice for top server. She always treats us like a family and gives the place a more festive and lively feel.
I ate today here for lunch and I must say it was one of the best experiences I’ve had at this restaurant! Our server Alexander definitely made the experience for us! He was very attentive and I found things being done before I even asked! He gave us great recommendations for drinks along with THE BEST food choices!! He was very welcoming and definitely one of the best servers on staff! Will definitely be dining in again soon and requesting Alexander!
Was crowded when I went but enjoyed the place.. over priced but food and drinks are good Enjoy! you won't be disappointed
This is by far the best La Carreta's I've been to!!! My husband and I enjoyed the band while sipping delicious Margaritas and sharing a great conversation with a sweet server (Micah). Mikey was our bartender and he was awesome.
Food is great, drinks are great, but our sever was AMAZING. Bailey deserves a raise/promotion, she exceeds our expectations every time we visit! Definitely a main reason my friends and I continue to dine here!
Laura was my server and made my birthday so special!!
Bailey is the absolute best waitress we have ever had at any restaurant.
This is a great place. Good food and service, with a fun atmosphere. Don't know how often, but live music during at least some evenings. If you're traveling, this is a solid spot.
Perfecto
Jaci S was absolutely phenomenal! We had a long day at work and she was able to bring our mood up with her excellent service and great attitude! Food came out quickly, drinks were on par, and the vibes were immaculate. It is servers like Jaci that keep us coming back time and time again!
Mr.Ross,he was amazing. Attention to detail. Nonchalant. He eas so good that he handles everything. Amazing the way he did it. He was so very nice. I've/we've eaten out so many places.Ross was the very best. Dude did everything. Left him with the biggest tip, because he deserves it. Everyone,if you meet this young man, drop him dollars. He is so....I don't even know how to word it. He's the best you gonna have
Showed up to La Carreta on a Monday afternoon around lunch. Was seated fast and friendly with about 50% of the place filled. Monday is all day happy hour and it is one of the best I have found in Houma. 3$ for a 22 oz beer. Pretty solid. Complimentary chips and salsa. To be clear this is Mexican American, this isn’t authentic Mexican. But for what it is, it’s pretty dang good. Ordered a steak burrito with rice and beans. Good portions for the price. Friendly and prompt service. If I am ever in the area I would return. Can recommend for the good happy hour and solid steak burrito.
Food is good. Popular area for the locals to hang out on the patio listening to live music and enjoying each other's company and the atmosphere. Taco Tuesday is very popular.
Decent Mexican food and a good drink selection. Not the nicest place, but Houma isn't exactly known for fine dining. Fairly clean and food is alright but far from authentic (they don't really claim authenticity anyway). Go here for a margarita, alright chips and salsa, and avoid the rice and beans if you like the real stuff.
Salsa and chips are super yummy! Happened to go on a Taco Tuesday and wasn't disappointed in the Carne Asada tacos. Wish they would've doubled up on the corn tortillas and added more onion, but they were delicious. The Choriqueso was great too. Will definitely be returning to this place!
My husband and I ordered chicken fajitas and steak fajitas. Both were delicious! Plenty enough to take home for another meal. Beans and rice seemed to be better quality than previos visits.
We went around 8 and had a large party. Found it kinda slow on the food delivery. the initial serving of salsa took about 15 minutes. Only water and chips were prompt.
The atmosphere was very nice, cool music and great food, the only problem was the customer service, because when I arrive I decided to seat outside and the chairs where wet, and the guy was trying to wiped down and still the chairs were wet, so I ask to the waitress next to us if she please could bring more dry towels, and she gave me an attitude rolling her eyes, then she handed to me make my dry my own chairs and table. So that attitude was not cool. Other than that, the restaurant it's my favorite when I visit Houma. 😃👌
Good for taco Tuesday! Food was excellent! Patio was ok...little smokey. Service was decent. Our table was dirty. With food chunks and hair from previous customers. Waited 15 minutes and nagged 3 people before it was clean.
We love the staff and party atmosphere. Through covid it was a great escape. I have one request. Please put up a permanent stage by the bar like you do when Canebreakers plays and PLEASE dedicate a dance floor space big enough so we can all get up there. Ditch the bandstand up in the front, that tiny space in front of it does not encourage letting loose. Move it to the back and open it up. Let's make the party a party.
The bartender was solid, the band was good, the drinks were spot on, but a bit pricey! The food was good- classic Mexican with a spin…it’s close to great, but closer to good, especially for the price point.
Beautiful restaurant with great atmosphere. I was so impressed when I stepped into this building for date night. Unknown to us: we walked in during a fundraising event and the place was packed. We were seated immediately, but the service was slow, and we waited 30 minutes to get our order taken. My husband spoke to a manager and we decided to order our food to go. The manager kindly gave us a 50% discount due to the delay and offered us drinks to go. Overall, this is a very beautiful restaurant, the food was great, and though busy... the staff were accommodating.
EXCELLENT FOOD... BUT, if you're getting take out, CHECK EVERYTHING BEFORE YOU LEAVE. In my experience ( +/- 30 times/year since they opened) you have a 60% chance that ONE OR MORE THINGS WILL BE MISSING FROM YOUR TO-GO ORDER. If you get delivery, the same issue will happen. You have the same chance that one or more items will be missing from your order when you eat in but, since you are there, it is an easy fix. so...FOOD IS EXCELLENT but TAKE EVERYTHING OUT OF THE BAGS AND OPEN EACH AND EVERY ITEM BEFORE YOU DRIVE AWAY or someone back at home will be disappointed. *** my 3-star review for the "atmosphere" is not a 5 because the piped-in music is set TOO LOUD for my family. It may be wonderful for you... *** If you enjoy live/loud music, Thursday nights are a treat! :-)
Usually not a fan of chain restaurants but the tacos here are very flavorful. I recommend coming on Tuesdays when they are $2 each. They also have a great happy hour before 6pm when you can enjoy a big Margarita or Beer for a nice discount.
Went about 2 in the afternoon. Hardly anyone there and waited almost an hour for food after ordering. Waitress rarely came check on us. Crazy....never had this experience here before.
Bueno a secas!
Noche mexicana food
The best thing that I can say about this place was it was just (okay), I guess if you want to be all white girl wasted this is your spot. Basic, basic, basic, it wasn't bad, but it wasn't good either, same thing with the service very bland. Our server was not bad, but she wasn't good. The place was almost empty on a Wednesday afternoon about 3:00 there wasn't a rush, no excuse for the lackluster service. The absolute smallest redfish tacos I have ever seen in my life, I should have taken a picture. But they were micro, they were actually smaller than the accordion holder that they bring them out in and for $19 lol We have absolutely no problem with paying for high quality service and food. However in our humble opinion we were overall displeased with our experience as it was definitely was not worth the high cost on the menu. If you are looking forward to a truly authentic Mexican restaurant experience with phenomenal food and perfect service every time, do yourself a favor and drive right past this place and head to El Paso on west tunnel Blvd..
Bro, I’m disappointed in the quality of food I received. I was under the impression that the food here was top-notch. My wife and I were in agreement it’s not worth the money. Don’t think I’ll be back. The server we had was very nice, and she checked on us often. I can name four mexican restaurants within a ten mile radius with way better food. Sorry but I wouldn’t waste my money unless your only interest are margaritas and 22oz beers.
Wasn't your traditional Mexican restaurant. It's not that the food wasn't good, it's just that I prefer traditional... Tamales, traditional beans and rice, Enchiladas, and burritos, along with the atmosphere.
The food is good but the portions are very small. It’s very over priced for the amount of food you get. My chimichanga looked like it would have been a kid’s meal and the fajitas had more veggies than meat- disappointing.
Drinks are always great here. And the service is also very good. However, I really don't care for the food it's pretty much all overpriced and very bland. I would recommend taco Tuesday those tacos are all pretty good for the price $2
Very beautiful restaurant inside and out. The back patio offers a great place to relax outdoors while you enjoy the water fountain sounds with your food. Speaking of which, on to that. I ordered some tacos and the wait time wasnt bad. My waitress did a great job also. The entree I ordered came with 2 tacos, a side of rice and refried beans. Now when you order food at other Mexican restaurants around houma. You usually get an egregious portion for what you pay(usually really great on prices). But when I received my entree and la careta. I was extremely disappointed. The tacos were waaaaay smaller then I expected seeing as how I paid 12 bucks for it. For reference the soft corn shells were about 4.5 inches in diameter of that. Food tasted great, but no better then the cheaper Mexican restaurants in houma. La careta seems to be a place to go eat if you want to seem flashy or you wanna feel rich(or are rich). Give it a shot if your in the area on Tuesday tho. They have 2 dollar tacos and domestic beer which is totally worth it.
Atmosphere was good and the service was fast. The food left me wanting. The chicken was a bit dry and the meat was not precut. I'm glad we took our meal home since we had a cutting board to use.
The food was hit and miss. My husbands chicken was wonderful, but my shrimp was dry and bland. The waitress forgot to bring out the appetizer and I had to remind her when she brought our meal. It seemed like she was too busy or distracted to serve our table though the restaurant was fairly empty. The music was a bit loud as well. Not a great experience, not the worst.
Band outside was good but no seating outside. Menu is limited and didn't offer some of my preferred dishes...far too few choices for combo meals. Food was good, not great. Atmosphere was ok.
Our waitress was good for the most part. The margaritas and queso were both really good but I didn't really care for the rest of my food. I ordered the beef fajitas. The black beans were very dry and I didn't care for the flavor of the meat. It was edible and I didn't leave hungry but I wasn't impressed by no means.
Walked into an empty restaurant. Had to wait until an employee decided to get up from a table eating to get me a table. Ordered spinach chicken, grilled. Rubber chicken. Couldn't eat the chicken, bit greens were good.
Very disappointed, we came in for dinner on a not too busy taco Tuesday and were never severed. We waited at our table for 20 minutes. We were served chips and salsa immediately but never greeted by a server. Usually friendly service and great food but not tonight. Also my friend who had never been found the menu lacked description on some things.
Not bad, but similar to a Mexican Applebee's. Small portions, high prices.
Giant burritos, tiny chimichangas. The beans are OK, the rice has mixed vegetables in it (which I strongly dislike), but the salsa was good. The Bloody Mary that I had should DEFINITELY be on the menu bc it was made with LOVE, & the cheese dip was alright too, but was very salty and didn't have an authentic flavor like I'm used to. It was ok for Americanized Mexican food. The restaurant was pretty & clean, & the service was excellent.
I don’t get the hype about this place. The food was fresh but the taste just wasn’t there for me. The tables were really close to each other so it was hard to have a conversation with my husband over dinner. The server we had was excellent and checked on us often, but overall I don’t think we’ll be back
My only reference for this restaurant chain is the one located in Hammond. The band is usually outside. If it’s inside, it’s at a level you can still hear your server and the people you’re sitting with. This location though… oh man. It’s chilly out so I knew the band would be indoors. It’s pretty quiet outside. Then you open the door and get blasted back into the parking lot with the noise. Can’t hear the hosts. Get seated. Can’t hear your server, who can’t do their job until a song ends because they also cannot hear. Left and my ears were ringing. I’m 27. My hearing is totally fine. Please, please lower the volume of the sound system. It made our experience miserable. Next time we come here, we will do curbside pickup. The food was amazing and our server was super!! But the loud music had us eating in silence and texting to chat to each other. :(
Mucho b
If you're looking for authentic mexican food, this not the place. My husband ordered a quesadilla, which turned out to be a mini soft taco,VERY SMALL,! I ordered a chimichanga, which is normally filled with chicken, cheese, a sauce and cheese on top as well and is a nice size, yet I received a very small (like a toddler portion)burrito basically with shredded chicken and nothing else in the inside. I was very disappointed, for the price they charge they should definitely serve the appropriate portion size and have better flavor as well. Besides the food, the patio was very nice, plenty of fans, there was no wait, and the waiter was very nice. Unless they fix the food issues, I probably won't go back!
First time there was just ok. The El Pastor taco was horrible. It actually tasted like they boiled a pork shoulder then shredded it threw in a can of pineapple bits and pieces. Yuck!!!!!! Please cook them the right way......or change the name from El Pastor to something else less appetizing. The chips salsa and cheese dip was good.
I wanted to give it 3 stars, but apparently the service at the end made me think otherwise. I've eaten there twice. The first time: they make the best shrimp quesadillas and the enchiladas aren't that great. The service was okay that time and the waitress was informative on the menu. However, this time was a huge disappointment. The waitress wasn't very knowledgeable on the dishes, basically repeated what the menu said; and the menu was very vague on some parts of the menu. We got the shrimp nachos and it seemed more like a taco shrimp salad with all the lettuce and tomatoes on it. Yes there were beans, shrimp, and queso on it. We knew it came with lettuce and sour cream, but we didn't expect that to drown the nachos. Otherwise the food was fresh and good. However, at the end of our meal, we spent a while waiting for our waitress and cheque. First was waiting for her to come check on us, then to bring our cheque back She was good at refills and ensuring us our food was coming, but when a big table was being made, she spent more time talking with them(no not taking their orders yet) and the fellow employees. TL;DR some good stuff on the menu, some not good. was good service the first time I went, terrible service on the second time.
The atmosphere is nice. My server was nice but seemed very inexperienced. The food was less than average. The drinks were terrible. And we were charged extra for items that came with the dinner such as pico and sour cream.
Fire the chef/cook he has ruined the experience at this restaurant. It used to be an 8 out of 10 experience but last year cook changed and its now a 3 out of 10. Everything from flavor to portion Size and the trimmings that use to come with food has gotten less and cheaper and taken Away from Experience. We used to. Come here every Tuesday and eat and drink and be merry. Now taco bell Up The street has better Mexican Food... What a shame. Was pretty dang good Before. For a Louisiana Mexican food restaurant at least.
Great food photography, not so great food. Also food is overpriced. Substituted the chicken in my burrito for mushrooms and was charged more. Didn't know plants cost more than meat. Could've went to Chipotle and bought way better food for half the price of my "Mexican" burrito.
We waited two hours for our food. We weren't visited by the waitress for 45 minutes. Whenever we finally got our food, it was COLD. Then, we only ordered 6 tacos on Taco Tuesday between my husband and I. They brought us an extra two and told us they were giving the extra two to us for no charge. Yet bill comes, we were charged for the extra two tacos. We asked for a refills and they never brought it.
Don't bother coming here. It took over an hour for my food which didn't even all arrive. I asked to have the food that didn't arrive taken off of my bill and that took 20 minutes!!!! The margarita didn't seem to have any tequila in it and the beer was flat and my quesadilla was burned. I think I got burned paying anything for this crappy meal.
Horrible food horrible service . I order chicken and steak fajitas with extra steak I Needless to say I got like 3 pieces of chicken and maybe five pieces of steak and as an appetizer we order crawfish nachos which was disgusting and we sent them back . I order my fajitas well done and the onions and bell peppers and tomatoes were so hard . Took almost an hour to get are food . We will never go back to this place. We hate taco Bell before we will go back to this place we will go to Taco Bell worst Mexican food ever had
Got here on a Wednesday. Place wasn’t super busy but our waitress took a while before she took our order. It was my two kids and me. We never got chips or anything. We waited almost 30 minutes for our food which was okay. And we ordered our food, I asked for a to go order of a nachos to go but that took over an hour. Our waitress brought the bill before and I paid before the nachos were brought. She didn’t say anything about why it would take so long and ignored me several times when I tried to get her attention when she would walk past. The food was decent but the wait and lack of communication and professionalism from the staff was terrible. Don’t plan on coming here again. And to anyone who wants better food and better service, there’s a bunch of Mexican restaurants in Houma that are better.
I got Shredded chicken chimichanga and my husband got the shrimp chimichanga 1st off the size of the chimichanga for both was literally the size of half of a tortilla the Shredded chicken was so dry I couldn't eat it even after smothering it with Guacamole and sour cream both of which I got extra of. My husband ate his shrimp chimichanga but ¼ of it was tortilla very little shrimp filling. It took forever to get our meal after placing our order and even longer to get the check when we were ready to leave. Needless to say we won't be back and wouldnt recommend eating here. I would have taken photos but we didn't bring our phones.
Definitely the worse Mexican restaurant I ever being!! Vey clean , nice inside but the food, horrible, I order a chicken fajita and the chicken was so dry, the tortillas I don’t understand why the restaurants here in Louisiana have to fold the tortillas in a aluminum foil, also I was expecting at least they cook the tortilla, since is seems like a bag of tortilla from dollar tree, they just microwave l and roll on aluminum foil.
With no wait after 8pm on Taco Tuesday there is no excuse to wait over 10 minutes and never have your order taken. The staff were more interested in taking down the stuff to get ready for closing than taking people's orders. The people that come in an hour before closing deserve the same amount of service as the people that come in an hour after opening. Words to live by in the restaurant industry.
just paid 19.95 for steak fajitas In the pick up line, There were so little meat. It was ridiculous. There was only a few pieces, but the bowl was full of onions and bell peppers., I will not go back
Just simple request weren’t met. Felt very not cared for. I’ve been in the restaurant industry along time and I give people benefit of the doubt but this was just plainly not caring. Got our food wrong then laughed about when we told our waiter. Just wasn’t a good experience especially being out first time.
Malisimo el servicio a el igual que la comida, salada y la michelada? Mejor pide un clamato... no sabia a cerveza!!
Le ase falta sabor más a México que a las comidas Tex Mex
Be mindful when ordering drinks between 3 - 6 pm on a Sunday ... found out pricing on their website is not honored. Was out with some girlfriends when we placed our order around 5:15 pm and was surprised when the receipt showed $13.95 a piece when it should have been $7. We asked if the deal would be honored based on the website and we were told no. We saw past the incorrect food and being told that there was an all-day happy hour at the beginning of meal by the waiter as mistakes do happen, however, being told this is an old website and to not be honored... ? Disappointed. 😞
