Food is AMAZING! Atmosphere unforgettable! Service like Family! Special people. One of a kind! Must eat! Thank you Frankie!
Family owed multigenerational Italian restaurant. Wonderful dishes. Generous portions so much that they leave the to go boxes out for you. NASA flight crew choice as you will see everyone’s pictures throughout the walls. Wonderful owner.
Delicious, authentic Italian food paired with NASA memorabilia. A former astronaut recommended this restaurant to me, and I can’t recommend it highly enough. I brought a group of 22 people here today—everyone loved it. Franke and Enzo are fantastic, and they’re both from Capri, Italy!
TLDR; amazing Italian food, authentic atmosphere, experienced staff, wonderful menu with gluten free options! Came in on a Friday night for dinner and the place was packed! The experienced staff had us seated quickly with drinks. Very authentic feel to this place, I loved the classical feel in the atmosphere. From the host’s book in the front area, to the photographs in the lobby, even frenchie himself taking an active part in curating the experience, everything set the stage for a delicious and hardy meal! I don’t think anyone walks out of this door hungry, they had many gluten free options available.
AUTENTICO! This place is owned by the sweetest old Italian man. He immediately greeted my husband’s broken leg with a “Mamma mia!” The owner was SO cute that I wanted to literally cry. Don’t go here if you’re in a hurry or if you’re going to be a snob. The establishment is decorated with old NASA memorabilia and an eclectic mixture of paintings. The old-school Italian vibes are simply too good. The lasagna and cappuccino are straight out of Italy and this place (and the owner) must be protected at all costs. Truly love Frenchies with my entire being!
I haven't been to Frenchies Italian in about 20 years after moving to the other side of the Houston area. I'm thankful to say...nothing has changed! It remains the same in all the best ways. When is the last time you went to an Italian restaurant (in Houston area) and the people working there were speaking Italian? The authenticity shows all the way through. My go-to order from the lunch menu, and reason I was excited to come back, is the ham and cheese crepes...one of my all time favorites and so much richer than you might think! Do yourself a favor and give Frenchies a visit next time you are in the Clear Lake area. It's one of those rare institutions that we need to support to keep around and authentic for another 50 years!
As soon as you walk in, you feel like you're walking into an Italian home kitchen. The other thing is that makes it nostalgic, the owners are still taking your orders and make you feel right a home. Now for the food, OMG! Its delicious and you can't go wrong with anything on the menu. Buon appetito!
We were greated by an older Italian gentleman (owner) speaking Italian when we walked in. Was sat down with red ambiance lighting which really sets the mood with you and the spouse. In the background you hear Italian music with the smell of Italian food over loading your nose sensors. Fresh bread is brought out loaded with garlic and herbs. The bread had a nice crunch but nice and soft in the middle with very herby savory flavor. We ordered the escargot and it came out on a small dish with 6 snails soaked in garlic in herb with a slice of lemon on time. This melted in our mouths and was excellent. My wife had the the meat balls and pasta with vodka sauce. Probably some of the best I have ever had! Very creamy tomato sauce with an amazing blended meat ball of pork and beef. I ordered the veal parmesan and it came with a side alfredo noodles and prosciutto ham. Definitely the best I have ever had. The veal was cooked perfectly with mozzarella cheese and red sauce on top. Everything was very rich in flavor. Also to top it off we had a slice of homemade cheesecake with homemade whipped cream. The wife and I were both stuffed and only ate maybe half of each of our dishes, but we finish the cheesecake. It was so good. Side note: This place has big portions and the price I think is cheaper than others that don't even compare. We will be back and this is our favorite Italian restaurant now.
Amazing amazing amazing !!! Quality and authenticity 100% . I had the carbonara my wife had the lobster ravioli, appetizer we had the bruscceta and oil with garlic dip, the breads with oregano garlic and to finish a chocolate nuts cake with a fresh white wine based whipped cream, honestly I am coming here once a week. Delicious. 10/10
I had never been to Frenchies. I was invited by family. The food was absolutely delicious! The portions on the sandwich was ginormous! The chicken fettuccine was scrumptious! The food was not the only great thing about this family restaurant. It's a small museum of Astronauts! There's so much memorabilia on the walls. I found it fascinating! I highly recommend this establishment. I plan on coming back.
This was our first visit and we've already discussed coming back! I had lobster ravioli topped with shrimp and lump crab and my husband had the snapper in mushroom sauce topped with lump crab and shrimp. The portion was perfect and we were full when we left. The staff was friendly and helpful. Our server Mia knew the menu well and was good at suggesting meals. It's very authentic and quaint.
Ordered to go for Saturday dinner. Fettuccine Alfredo with chicken, lasagna, side salads, and garlic bread. Chicken could've been cut smaller. Not enough Alfredo sauce. Some noodles were dry. Fettuccine dish needed more seasoning. Salad was fresh, and garlic bread was delicious. Waitress was very kind. Will return to try other items.
Olive what??? If you want authentic Italian food and vibe you should try Frenchies. I’m so glad Alessandro unlocked the door for us because the restaurant experience was one we’ll always remember (in the best way)! From the amazing gnocchi appetizers to the lamb chop special to the cheesecake dessert I mean I can go on and on but what made all the difference and set this restaurant apart was Alessandro. He was great and schooled us on everything Italiano. Thank you for the experience and we will be back soon. Oh the only reason I knocked off 1 minuscule star which really should be 1/2 star on Atmosphere is because there’s only 1 bathroom stall for the women and it took a few trips before I finally got to use it but that’s minor.
Man! This place is fantastic. It's a drive out a ways from Houston proper, but it's worth it. The atmosphere and Frenchie himself are great. The food? Mario puts it down. No matter what dish you like elsewhere, it's better here. And that garlicky oil for the bread?! Fantastic. So glad they had just a bit of it left for us. The chicken parmigiana was the best I've had in ages, the pasta was fresh and delicious, and the salad and its dressing were so unique and great. I would absolutely return. Oh, and that cheesecake, y'all. I wish I'd ordered a whole cake of it. So good.
Since I can’t leave two reviews I’m editing this one. It’s still five stars. Last night I had the manicotti. I didn’t get a picture but the side salad was so fresh and crisp. The food was really good, the service was outstanding and the chocolate mousse was the best I’ve ever tasted! My review from 10 months ago. I ordered the cheese ravioli with pink sauce and basil. The food was excellent. The service was good. I’ll definitely return.
This place was amazing from the garlic(I honestly believe an entire garlic bulb is in this!!!!)olive oil bread and dip to the parmesan eggplant! Absolutely 💯 authentic and wonderful 1st time experience. Family friendly and date night worthy. Also, there are walls upon walls of historical astronaut photos to enjoy!!!
Amazing Amazing place. If you are visiting Houston, and if you are visiting nasa space center, this restaurant must be in your list of things to do. Food is amazing. I have never had a better garlic bread and dip in usa. Main course has lot of varieties and it comes with garden salad and pasta sides. Potion sizes are huge, so order accordingly. You can choose between salmon, chicken, shrimp and there are chef special lobster ravioli and other items as well. Plenty of options and from what i can tell, everything was looking stunningly well. Service, it was totally admirable. They were nice and courteous. Very helpful with questions. At the same time they give you space to enjoy the food and company. They also sang happy birthday to one lady at another table. Owner is gem of a guy. Have been meeting all astronauts and have all the pictures up on the walls but still so down to earth and friendly with everyone. Always with a smile. Beautiful soul. A must must visit.
The food was very good and definitely worth coming back for. The service was solid, about a “B”. The escargot was excellent, and the lasagna was an easy “A”. The lobster ravioli was very good, though a bit salty for my taste. The chocolate mousse was excellent and a perfect way to end the meal.
Went here for a late night dinner at 7:30pm. Was greeted by an older gentleman upon entry and immediately sat. The restaurant has an old school vibe inside(I like it). Service was quick. Ordered the chicken Parmesan and chicken Alfredo. The chicken Parm was great! The Alfredo was similar the best in the area(Gino’s in Galveston)but it was a close second. For dessert we had the Tiramisu and Cheesecake, both were great. Would come back.
Food was delicious. Pasta tasted real. Bread and garlicky olive oil dip were amazing. The spaghetti with meat sauce was a hit as well as the alfredo. Chicken marsala was great too. The entire place could probably use a face lift but it's nostalgic in its own way and people love it. It's completely covered wall to wall with pictures of pilots and astronauts which I personally thought was unique and awesome at the same time. Ive read complaints of the place not being very clean but I did not notice that at all during my visit. The owner is an older Italian gentleman who is very nice, speaking italian while walking up and down the dining area checking on diners. The staff was not bad at all maybe slow but I blame that on the sudden rush of 30 or more people that showed up almost at the same time. I will admit I think the sign in station is out dated and inefficient. But that doesn't affect the great taste of the food. The meals were very comparative in price to just about any other Italian restaurant except the food at Frenchies is actually worth it.
