Had a great time at The Monks! The chicken Manchow soup was the highlight, so flavorful and comforting. Loved the chicken tandoori momos and Hakka noodles too. This is the spot to get the best Indo-Chinese street food.
Absolutely delectable food (Chettinad Chicken / Roti!) The Saag is so creamy and delicious as well as the veg samosas!! Service is amazing we got four orders of free Gulab Jamun thanks to our very personable waiter 😝 Will be coming back TOMORROW LOLL
I love the little date i had with my boyfriend. The restaurant is very family friendly so not good if you want a quiet lunch break to eat. They have a nice comfortable seating area while you wait to be seated. I would come again to try more food. I highly recommend the Garlic Naan and if you love spicy food I suggest the Andhra Chicken Curry. 10/10
I recently tried the Mutton Sukka at The Monk’s on Westheimer, and wow—what an explosion of flavor! Each bite was bursting with intense spice, savory depth, and tender, well-marinated meat that melted in my mouth. The blend of aromatic spices and that signature dry texture had me hooked from the first taste. Beyond just the mutton, the overall experience was fantastic: quick service, bold flavors, and just the right amount of heat. As a fan of hearty, spicy South Indian-style preparations, this dish absolutely delivered. I can’t recommend it enough—definitely a new favorite I’ll keep coming back
I recently tried the Veg Gravy Manchurian, Garlic Burnt Fried Rice, and Masala Noodles at The Monk’s Indo-Chinese. All the vegetarian dishes were absolutely delicious — the flavors were rich, authentic, and perfectly balanced. Each dish had its own unique taste, and everything was freshly prepared and served hot. The staff was very friendly and made the overall experience even better. I highly recommend this place to anyone looking for flavorful and satisfying Indo-Chinese cuisine. I’m definitely looking forward to visiting again!
We dined here last night and our experience was amazing. We started with their manchow soup which had authentic Indian-Chinese heat and flavors. 🍜 loved it. We then ordered their paneer tandoori momos, they were crisp, well cooked in their tandoori masala marinade. Portion is enough for 3 people. Their green chutney is delicious and goes well with the momos. 🥟 We decided to go for fried rice with Manchurian, which was alright. I have definitely had better, but their Manchurian were soft and tasted good. Skip the fried rice, but definitely try their Manchurian dry. We ended our dinner with veg kheema biryani, which was the ultimate winner. Perfectly spiced, soya nuggets cooked to perfection, not too oily, and the portion size is huge. We had biryani leftovers that tasted even better the next day at home. If you like vegetarian kheema 🍲or skip meat for a change do give it a try. Overall everything was good, i would definitely go again. It’s just their menus that felt sticky and some pages even had soy sauce on it 😅
After a lot of convincing from my friend that their biriyani is the best in all of Houston, I ordered the Vijayawada Special Chicken Biryani (the family pack which comes with an appetizer and a dessert) and my friend was absolutely right. The biriyani is the best!!! Haven’t been stopping ordering from the restaurant. The appetizer we got from the family pack was so tasty that we tried to order the appetizer as a full meal. Couldn't figure out the exact appetizer. So I called the restaurant and they suggested trying either the chicken Manchuria or the sweet ginger garlic chicken. And it was sweet ginger garlic chicken and it was delicious. One time I ordered the Paneer Monk's Special Momo and this one is also yummy. Never been disappointed with any food from here. Highly recommend it. Update January 2024: Recently tried Monks Chopsuey Noodles and Wok Tossed Hakka Noodles. These are fantastic. The last time I have had chopsuey in my native country and now today, and it was authentically delicious. Can not express fully how amazingly tasty their food is.
We decided to try this place out because of reviews and we really enjoyed it. The place is a bit small but does have plenty of seating, even for a big group. The server took our order quickly and the food came out back to back and somewhat fast. The food was DELICIOUS, it had so much flavor and it was enough for all of us! Definitely will be back to try different plates.
I recently dined at The Monk's, and I must say, it was an amazing experience! The restaurant has a cozy atmosphere with a beautiful decor that transports you straight to China. But what really sets The Monk's apart is their food and service. I was pleasantly surprised by the wide variety of dishes on the menu. Each dish was made with fresh ingredients and the flavors were simply outstanding. What really impressed me was their willingness to go the extra mile to make sure we were completely satisfied with our meal. The staff was incredibly friendly and helpful, and they were more than happy to create custom noodles to suit our Indian based spicy taste. The noodles turned out to be absolutely delicious, and it was clear that they had put a lot of care and attention into preparing them. The service was excellent from start to finish. The staff was attentive, but not overbearing, and they were always ready to help us with any questions or requests we had. Our dishes arrived quickly and were presented beautifully. The attention to detail in every aspect of the restaurant was evident, and it really made the dining experience that much more enjoyable. Overall, I would highly recommend The Monk's to anyone who loves Chinese cuisine or is looking for a new dining experience. The food is outstanding, the staff is friendly and attentive, and the ambiance is perfect for a cozy night out. Whether you are a Chinese food aficionado or just looking for a great meal, The Monk's is definitely worth a visit
Good atmosphere and friendly welcoming Nice decor and soft music Menu was interesting since it has Indian and Chinese options essentially indo Chinese variety. Soup was okay but it wasn’t like chicken corn soup. Noodle was very nice , exciting and tasty. Manchurian chicken was also delicious Fried rice too had variations flavors which was great. Ordered extra noodles Manchurian to go. Recommend to visit this place.
It was our first time ordering from this location, and we tried the Bandi-style street noodles along with the kids’ butter chicken and naan. While the kids’ meal was decent, the Bandi-style street noodles truly exceeded our expectations — perfectly spiced with just the right touch of smoky flavor. A delightful surprise!”
Edit:2025 1. Tandoori paneer momo still good 4.5/5 2. Wok tossed hakka noodles still the same 3/5 3. Tried their gobhi manchurian gravy - it's good 4/5 4. Monk's special fries - they are good. For North Indian taste, it's something close to honey chilli potato without the chilli :D 4/5 2021: This is a good place. 1. Tandoor paneer momos were really good. 2. Veg spring rolls were bit oily but really good 3. Their manchurian is also good 4. Veg The Monk's special noodle is okayish. All over it was a very good experience.
One of our favorite places for Indo Chinese food. The quantity is large for every dish that you get. We have always ordered online but visited once. The ambience is bright and vibrant. The service is fast and good. Our favorites include the manchow soup, tandoori chicken momos, hakka noodles and the manchurian.
Indo-chinese food was good 👍 Service was ok ... Place was full of smoke & smell from kitchen as the ventilation system was malfunctioning....and the restaurant is small ....every time they cook something it was so bad we had hard time breathing. Asked waiter to leave door open !!! Hopefully it is an isolated incident and they fixed the problem.
Had a togo order so not sure about service, but the food was pretty bad. chicken had an off texture, kind of rubbery and chewy, also had a bad aftertaste, naan was very stale as well. My boyfriend is sick today from the tiki masala. Do not recommend this place.
We came to Houston for Thanksgiving and decided to try Monks. We ordered the Vijayawada boneless biryani and goat fry biryani. Unfortunately, the food was not up to the mark — the biryani didn’t feel fresh, and the meat pieces were very few. We expected much better quality and fresh food, especially for the price. Quite disappointed.
I wish I could give 0 stars. I’ve ordered from this restaurant multiple times through Uber Eats, and every time the food has been disappointing — either overcooked, smelling stale, or tasting like it was made days ago. Today, I gave it another try and even called the restaurant beforehand to mention my previous bad experiences and asked them to ensure the food was fresh this time. Unfortunately, the biryani I received was again terrible — the rice was broken(doesn't even look like Basmati rice), tasted old, and the overall quality was worse than expected. It’s really disappointing, especially after taking the time to inform them in advance. It seems like they care more about sales than customer satisfaction. I’m definitely avoiding this restaurant from my list from now on.
We were visiting Houston and stopped here for some Indo-Chinese. We ordered Chinese bhel, steamed momos, hakka noodles, chicken Sichuan rice, and American chopsuey. The experience was bad from the start. Water from the AC was dripping onto the table and into the food. We had to return the chopsuey and switch to chicken biryani, and even that was poorly made. The food was clearly not fresh. It tasted sour to the point my jaw hurt, stale, and the momos had stuffing that had already gone bad. We are not people who waste food, but this was impossible to eat. Only edible thing was chinese bhel and thats the only item we were able to finish. You can see from the picture how much we left behind after only tasting it, yet we still paid the full bill. What made it worse was the staff’s attitude. When I complained, the person just stared at me. No apology, no explanation. Running a food business is a responsibility, and serving spoiled food without any accountability is unsafe. Do not be misled by the glowing reviews. I strongly suspect most of them are paid, because I can’t imagine anyone genuinely enjoying food served in this condition.
