Patiala in New York is a cozy and inviting Indian restaurant that serves up traditional and vegan dishes in a contemporary setting. I recently had the pleasure of dining at Patiala, and I was particularly impressed by the garlic naan and Sarson ki sabji. The garlic naan was perfectly cooked, with a fluffy interior and a crispy exterior. The garlic flavor was subtle but present, and it perfectly complemented the other dishes on the table. The Sarson ki sabji, a mustard greens curry, was also delicious. The mustard greens were tender and flavorful, and the curry was rich and creamy. I highly recommend both of these dishes to anyone looking for a delicious and authentic Indian meal. In addition to the food, I was also impressed by the service at Patiala. The staff was friendly and attentive, and they were happy to answer any questions I had about the menu. The restaurant also has a nice atmosphere, with a modern décor that is both stylish and comfortable. Overall, I had a wonderful dining experience at Patiala. The food was excellent, the service was top-notch, and the atmosphere was inviting. I would definitely recommend this restaurant to anyone looking for a delicious and authentic Indian meal.

Oh, oh, oh, I loved the food here! I ordered: - Lamb Madras* ($22.95, lamb chunks, comes with no rice, *spicy) - Garlic Naan ($5.95, one large fluffy piece sliced in two) - Butter Roti ($5.95, one large whole wheat piece, sliced in two) - Mango Lassi ($5.95, sweet and delicious, served in a glass) - Salted Lassi ($5.95, not so sweet, was OK, never tried before), and the - Gulab Jamun ($5.95, two hot dough balls in sweet syrup). Everything was made so well and tasted incredible. I think they used ghee, if my taste buds are keen enough, which is clarified butter (easier to eat and healthier for the body) and it tasted amazing, especially on the naan and buttered roti! The Lamb was spicy and tender. Chef's kiss 🤌 The bread was perfect. Both types. The Mango Lassi was perfect. The Salted Lassi was new to me, and was well made, but I personally didn't care for it, especially after the sweetness of the Mango flavor. The Gulab Jamun was hot, I nearly burned my tongue, but as good as any other Indian restaurant that cares about the food the serve you. Delicious. ...... The establishment was small. Only about four small 2-person tables crammed next to each other on one wall, and the same on the opposite wall. Outside the door was an enclosed patio with a similar setup. The place got cramped very quickly, but was nice to see that it was getting good business. I don't think there was a bathroom in the restaurant. It was pretty much just tables, and then the counter and register, excluding the kitchen in the back. The service was attentive (hard not to be when there were only so many tables to serve--NOT AT ALL a criticism on size, I LOVED this place), and I continuously was checked in on. *They do serve tap water, fyi, so if you're uncomfortable with New York tap, keep that in mind and bring a bottle or something. ....... Not much else to add. Their menu was slightly pricey, but you're in New York and, relatively speaking, on par with some other Indian restaurants I've tried in other cities. The place was small, but the ambience and atmosphere were intimate (but casual). Overall, as stated above, I LOVED the food here. When I'm in the area again, I will definitely be coming back. One other note on recommendation: the people next to me were, I think, a college freshman moving in to the area, being treated by his parents. They all, per some recommendations from their son, audibly loved the food as much as I. I wouldn't be surprised if they also tipped well based on food quality alone. PS--the restaurant is right around the block or so from Moynihan Train Hall, if you're coming in by train or Amtrak and want some great Indian food nearby. You can also walk to Times Square or Hudson Yards very quickly. 👍 5/5 stars from me ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Small, tiny, cozy restaurant in the heart of the city. Located few blocks down from Time Square. This is a treat for foodies and people who want to eat AUTHENTIC NORTH INDIAN FOOD. The restaurant did complete justice for the food 👍🏽 Respect 🫡. Chilli chicken, Goat Biriyani, Chilli garlic Naan, Tandoori Roti, Chicken Vindaloo, Kadaai Paneer, all the dishes were top notch, delicious 😋 and authentic Indian food (Quantity, quality, taste, masala, aroma, freshness, bammm this was awesome 👏🏽. Only problem is: restaurant is so small that it can accommodate only around 20 people indoor. Outdoor can accommodate another 15-20 bit its freezing cold 🥶 in winters, so highly not recommended.m to sit outside and eat. Walk in the restaurant, give your name, say the headcount, and ask for waiting time. Sit inside and enjoy the food. TOTALLY WORTH EVERY DOLLAR 💵 👌🏽. The owner was friendly, attentive to customers, and respectful. #NorthIndian #NYC #NewYork #FoodieDelight

This is my second time coming to this place and it just reminded me why I needed to come back! The food is amazing and even though it’s a small space, the atmosphere is so great!! 10/10 recommend

Easily one of my favorite indian places in the city. Large menu of fantastic vegetarian dishes - spicy, flavorful, and large plates of food meant for sharing. The Chettinad Egg Curry and their Vegetarian Biriyanis are both fantastic. I've ordered from here many times, and was very pleasantly surprised at their amazing packaging recently! The biriyani arrived fresh and hot, and the curries were packed perfectly! Will definitely be reordering.

Patiala is amazing. This is your cue to stop reading food reviews and go eat there now! The atmosphere is welcoming and relaxed, the service is friendly and attentive, and the food is top notch. Honestly I would eat here everyday if I could. Definitely will be back!

Small yet comfortable; the dimmed lighting and tonally-rich music shapes a surreal, soothing atmosphere. The service feels family run; they were calm and patient. And of course, the food is richly spiced and sauced. The mutton chettinad had a good balance of savoriness and spiciness. The quality of the cooking is especially impressive considering how large the menu is; new meals to look forward to next time.

This place got the best Indian food, 💯 Vibe.. they have a new one too. I have been going here since they started in 2016 ..they are very good for both dine in and take out.. it’s a very very popular spot so there is a wait time for sure but FOOD is awesome and worth the wait.. I love the veggie chettinad, biryani and Dal. You can customize the spice level. The butter naan Melts in your mouth.. for all those saying it’s cramped .. it’s Manhattan!!!

One of the best Indian cuisines I ever had in NY .. hands down the must go place if you love Indian food.. appetizers were superb especially Tandoor Jhinga (Shrimp) was just marvelous.. Apart from the Biriyani all the items we tested were 5/5.. the place is small but the food is outstanding

I’ve eaten here a few times, both in the restaurant and through delivery, and it’s always been great. The food is full of flavor—the chicken tikka masala is rich and creamy, and everything is cooked just right. Plus, it’s right next to Penn Station, making it a perfect spot to grab a meal before heading home.

Amazing food!!!! Finally we found an Indian hotel in the heart of Newyork City. The food and atmosphere was heavenly. We lovedddd the Biriyani and the gobi 65. All the staffs were very friendly. We will definitely visit with our family again. We also got special laddus on the day of Diwali yayyyyyyy!!

Awesome food. Good taste and great presentation. Staff is helpful and friendly. Only drawback is the place seems little congested and small, they have opened a new bar and grill close to this one worth attending

Came with the family over the Christmas period. We didnt make a reservation however, they managed to accommodate us within 10 minutes. The food was exceptional, the service was amazing, couldn't fault them at all. Would highly recommend, definitely a hidden gem of Manhatten!!!

Visiting NYC for first time from Texas, I am so grateful that we ate Pakistani food at this place first. Excellent food, excellent service! Mulligatawny soup was very good! Biryani and then Mughalai patiala tikka were no. 1. Shrimp and butter chicken were pretty delicious too.

A great Indian restaurant in the heart Manhattan! A very cosy place for the two of us (for bigger groups it might not fit), although we had to wait about 15 minutes it was worth it. We enjoyed all dishes and truly recommend whoever loves Indian cuisine!

Tiny cozy spot serving amazing Indian food. Dal Makhni, chicken, and kadhai paneer are their best dishes. The jeera rice is exceptional. Good for both take out and dine in with some wait

We ordered the chili chicken and samosa chaat appetizers, then chicken chettinad, chicken tikka masala, chicken biryani and garlic naans/parathas. Everything was delicious and our server Jobi made our experience even better! My only criticism (which has nothing to do with Jobi) is that we made our reservation online and they were seating walk-ins before us. They need a better process for keeping track of reservations and walk-ins. But all in all it was a great experience and we would definitely dine here again. Everyone’s favorite dishes were the chili chicken and the chicken chettinad!

Definitely a 5 starer considering the taste and swift service. The staff was welcoming and forward to help us making the selections.....Glad that we decided to come here on a Monday evening after a hectic day and travel schedule. Must visit if you are up for Indian cuisine and around Penn station. Revisited the place in January 2024 and the preparation of the dishes, service and experience was still the same as it was the last time!!

We waited close to an hour for our table but it was worth it. The food is to die for!!!! Huge portions !! The staff is very warm and welcoming. Very calm vibes. The mango lassi was very rich and creamy. 🥭 My sister forgot her phone at the restaurant. They found it and waited for us to come get it. 1000% good hospitality Will definitely go there more often.

Really enjoyed everything about this place. It’s SMALL, with 11 two-tops crammed about as close as they could be. There was a consistent mob of takeout drivers outside, and yet the food came out promptly. Wife had the paneer butter masala, I had the Patiala chicken curry which was a bit spicy but not bad. Service was on point and all the food we had was excellent. As far as I could tell they don’t serve alcohol.

R

Foodgasm! We were recommended this place, and It did not disappoint. Each and every day that we got felt authentic, the service was exemplary. They even offered us hot soup for free of charge because it was a cold day outside. Malai Kofta was the star!

I stopped by Patiala Indian Grill for the first time last night with a friend who had come to NYC by train and was looking for a good restaurant near Moynihan Train Hall. I am not exaggerating to say that my dinner of Lamb Biryani was the most delicious meal that I've eaten in my entire life (and I am 73)! The level of spiciness was perfect, and it was topped with a soft crust of Naan bread. I had a very pure tasting glass of lemonade to accompany it. The service was most gracious, and the atmosphere was relaxed and elegant.

I

My new favorite Indian restaurant in the city. Went on Monday night and it was packed (good sign!). Luckily we got a table instantly. The older is very small and cozy. Service was awesome (“we can accommodate all your dietary needs”- loved that ). My mom doesn’t eat dairy but really wanted the saag with chicken so they made it dairy free for her. Only one thing we forgot to ask - no spicy . Lol. But despite that she said it was very good. My niece said it was the best cheese naan she had. I loved my chicken masala and they made it very spicy for me (upon request). Can’t wait to go back !

Got the paneer lababdar and it was great!! Super creamy, spices were not overpowering and the paneer is cooked to perfection!! The garlic naan is also to die for. Mango lassi also bomb

On W34th near Penn Stn/Moynihan Hall (across from B+H Photo) but I call it a hidden gem because of its very cozy size. Food and service never disappoint. Menu very varied including veg and vegan options. I eat from all the menus and all is too good to favor any item!

C
Celia Falciani

My family had an amazing meal here. There were 7 people in our party with various allergies- gluten, dairy, soy, nuts - and all of us left so full. For appetizers, we had onion bhajia that were clearly house-made, and lasoni gobi that practically melted - the cauliflower wasn’t crunchy or mushy at all, but instead had a creamy texture when you bit into it. Our family was spoiled for choice with entree options. I was impressed at how well they prepared such a variety of items, and how well the staff knew ingredients to recommend safe options. Sometimes, a kitchen struggles when there’s too many dishes, but we had a variety of kebab, meat curries, vegetarian, and vegan items and every person enjoyed what they chose. It is a very tiny dining area (20, maybe 22 seats), and they don’t take reservations so you may have to wait. If you are local/have a hotel nearby, you can do take out or delivery. We waited half an hour for a table because our hotel was too far to have hot food by the time we got back, but it was well worth the wait. I’d highly recommend this place for really anyone!

We are big fans of Indian cuisine and have visited this place twice. The food is amazing and never disappoints. Every dish is rich in spices and authentic Indian flavors. They also offer delicious sweet and salty lassi to try. The restaurant is quite small, but it's always bustling with people. Sometimes, you may need to wait outside for a table, but the staff provides excellent service and always keeps you informed when your table is ready.

I got their to go lunch here running from 11AM-4PM and for the amount of food for the price it was amazing. I got the lamb lunch platter with the saag paneer side and the black dal. Everything I had was amazing!! Tbh this is one of the best lamb curries i’ve ever had. My friends’ also got the lamb curry platter rated it not as high 3/5 and 4.5/5. They said it could’ve been more tender.

K

The place reminded me and my family of the most delicious dishes straight from Delhi. Everything from the classical jeera rice to the decadent and flavorful chicken biriyani was amazingly delicious and tasty. I thank the uncle who let us in after everyone had left. He loved making people enjoy food. He made me and my family feel at home.

This hole in the wall Indian restaurant delivers in a big way! The incredibly friendly and efficient staff was only outshone by some of the best Indian food I've tasted in a long long time. I'm only 10 minutes gone, and already dreaming of my next meal here. My only word of caution is that there is no vestibule, so the chill from outside was creeping in during my December visit. TLDR, wear a sweater on a cold day. Otherwise perfect marks all around!

This place has an amazing atmosphere. Quite a great place for a luxurious meal. As luxurious the meal and the ambiance might be around you are very humble staff. One of our favorites is Kabir he really does an awesome job making our meal wholesome. A great place if you enjoy variety of dishes listing for vegetarian to non vegetarian options. Love this place from the bottom of my heart ❤️

Delicious food in a cozy and intimate setting. Great service. It’s very hard for me to find good Biryani, and so few restaurants actually make a proper one. Patiala does, and it was magnificent. I thought the nan covered pot was going to be gimmicky but it not only looked unique but also served a culinary end of sealing in the flavors as the Biryani cooks. The man itself was also delicious. Well done all round, will be coming back for sure!

My partner and I went to a place for dinner. The server was really nice and welcoming. They have outdoor and inside seating. We ordered biryani which was delicious. The quality and quantity was good per person ( I would say more ). I really wanted to try out the Curries but didn't get a chance but I bet those were delicious too. Overall a great place to try out the Indian dishes, highly recommended!!

Great food and great service by Tariq ji. Great attitude to serve. Engaged constantly with us and recommend dishes to us. We ate patiala gosht curry, kadhi paneer and butter nan. Daal soup for starters was cherry on top.

Finally I've found it. Truly the best indian food NYC. I've been to accent, tamarind and a few others in NYC. The nan and butter chicken have a different unique taste which is my new standard to compare against. The chicken 65, and lamb kabobs were so flavorful and easily the best I've had. Then mushroom kabobs blew mind with unique texture and flavor. Best shrimp curry I've had outside of my family's recipes especially since the shrimp was fresh and tender. Mango lassi was perfect. Service was impeccable. The place is kind of small but if your focused on taste then that's what really matters. I appreciate you guys.

'Anglo-Indian' menu, as a Brit in the USA I thoroughly enjoyed my Lamb Madras, it was just like a curry from a British Indian restaurant, compliments to the chef! Service was fast, friendly & efficient, ideal for a quick meal, reasonably priced for Manhattan.

The place is small and cozy, with a warm and inviting atmosphere. It’s not expensive at all, yet it still manages to make you feel like you’re dining at a high-end, fancy restaurant. I loved that about it! The dishes are beautifully spiced, offering the perfect balance of flavors for anyone who enjoys a bit of heat.

Greg Tuttle

Just a warning that the restaurant is VERY SMALL. A total of 20 people can fit in the restaurant at anytime. I went with a party of 6, while the place was nearly full, and the host/ server/ owner (?) promised they would have space for us in just a few minutes and he was right! Service was excellent! Food was delicious and came out really fast. There were 2 elderly people in our group and the servers were extra kind, attentive, and accommodating. I HIGHLY RECOMMEND THE GARLIC NAAN, Samosas, and Tikki Marsala. Everything was great. I highly recommend Patiala, you won't be disappointed.

Tucked away in the heart of Manhattan, Patiala Indian Grill delivered a fantastic dining experience. The chicken vindaloo was rich, spicy, and perfectly tender—just the right amount of heat to keep things exciting. Paired with their garlic naan, which was warm, fluffy, and loaded with flavor, it made for a memorable meal. The service was genuinely friendly, with staff who made us feel welcome without being overbearing. The cozy atmosphere added a comforting touch, making it a great spot for a relaxed lunch. Highly recommend for anyone craving bold Indian flavors in a warm, inviting setting.

What Patiala Indian Grill lacks is size they make up for in food and service. Seating for maybe 20-25 diners at a time. Menu offers a good selection of Indian dishes. The fiery spicy dishes pack a punch but not too hot to limit edibility. Did not try the biryani but other parties did and it looked beautiful. The food is very good and service fantastic.

Not a cliche indian restaurant, very mordern restaurant. We went for evening snacks and ordered- palak patta chaat, papadi chaat, tea and filter coffee. The tea was amazing and the coffee too. I personally loved the palak patta chaat due to its crispness. But the papdi chaat was also good. Must visit 👍👍

Absolutely divine. I have never had such well crafted Indian food. We came here after reading reviews online and it's all true. This food warms the soul. They were particularly busy the night we came and had to wait in the cold. To warm up up they served us a small yet hearty lentil broth. Amazing care and family feel. Quick with a water refill and absolutely delicious food. Silky smooth gravies. Would absolutely come again!

After exploring the Edge observation deck, our family of five (my parents, sibling, and her partner) visited Patiala Indian Grill at 371 W 34th Street. This cozy restaurant seats about 20 people, offering an intimate dining experience. We ordered mango lassi, onion bhajiya, butter roti, tandoori roti, garlic naan, and lacchedaar paratha. The mango lassi was refreshing, and the onion bhajiya was crispy and flavorful. All the breads were freshly baked, soft, and complemented our meal perfectly. For curries, we had the kadhai paneer and malai kofta. The kadhai paneer had a rich, well-spiced gravy with tender paneer pieces, while the malai kofta was creamy and delicately seasoned—both dishes were absolutely delicious. The food was authentic Indian cuisine with just the right level of spiciness, making it enjoyable for everyone. The staff was friendly and attentive, enhancing our dining experience. Patiala Indian Grill offers a variety of North and South Indian dishes, including many vegan and vegetarian options. It’s a great spot for anyone craving genuine Indian flavors in a comfortable setting. Highly recommend this place for its delicious food and welcoming atmosphere.

A Hidden Gem with Stellar Service! We hosted a group of seven at Patiala Indian Grill on W 37th St, and it was an absolutely fantastic experience from start to finish. Despite being a wonderfully cozy and intimate small place, they handled our larger party with grace and efficiency. The service and care-taking were truly next level—attentive, prompt, and genuinely warm, making everyone at our table feel well-looked-after. The food was the real highlight. Every dish, from the appetizers to the main courses, was fantastic and excellent. The flavors were vibrant and authentic, clearly prepared with expertise. It's rare to find such a perfect combination of incredible food and such amazing hospitality in a bustling area like NYC. Highly, highly recommended for any size group!

Excellent Food & Amazing Hospitality! We had a wonderful dinner for a group of six at Patiala Indian Grill. This spot is a charmingly cozy small place that feels like a lovely escape. What really stood out was the amazing service and care-taking. Our server was incredibly kind and ensured our entire party's needs were met quickly and with a smile—they truly went above and beyond to make our experience smooth and memorable. And the food? Simply excellent. The menu offers a superb range of options, and everything we ordered was fantastic—fresh, perfectly spiced, and generously portioned. For anyone looking for top-notch Indian cuisine paired with some of the best hospitality in the city, look no further. This is a must-try!

Really delicious 😋 first time here and after seeing a ton of amazing options and wanting to try everything I asked Venkat (my server 👌) for their recommendation for veggie/vegan option personal fav or most popular and after having it I’d say if you can handle a little bit of heat (6/10) HIGHLY recommend the Tofu Chetinad. Super tasty and unique and not what I expected to come into order but really phenomenal! ✨💙 also the garlic naan probably some of the best I’ve had and the papadams came with 3 different delicious chutneys. Will be back next time I’m in NYC.

I would start with off with quite possibly the best but instead I’m gonna be brutally honest and say it is the best Indian food I have had and I’ve had Indian on multiple continents and even in India. Mango lassi, Butter chicken, garlic naan, and the most flavorful rice. Don’t miss out on this small, but delightful restaurant.

Amazing Tasty North Indian food! Couldn't stop eating! Especially Paapdi Chaat and Dal Makhani. They also gave us Complimentary Dal soup when we came in, and in winter cold, it was a breath of relief and warmth. The place is a little small, but the taste makes up for it by 10 times over. Good place for even Vegetarian people.

This is one of best among all the restaurants, I have visited so far in New York. Though it’s higher side on pricing. Its location is very convenient. If you are roaming around Times Square, then no worries for authentic Indian food and drinks. Better you reserve a seat in advance. If you can not, then still okay. Wait time is not more than 15 minutes.

Amazing Indian place. We loved it. Not a tourist trap. The tikka masala and papal panned were some of the best I have ever had. The garlic nan is buttery goodness. Love the ambiance too: tiny and quaint.

The menu is super diverse and absolutely delicious! I highly recommend the shahi sweet lassi as a drink to anyone that likes creamy drinks. Try it instead of mango lassi! The lamb korma and vindaloo were my favorite. The zeera ghee rice is also an absolute must. The serving sizes were also plentiful. I recommend eating family style. The service was phenomenal. Food came out fast and the servers were all very attentive and caring. The music was fun too! Perfect for a cool day. Deserves a larger location and more attention!

This place is very close to The Edge and Times Square, making it a great spot if you’re around the area. The restaurant is small with only 4–5 tables, so seating is limited. They had a lot of to-go orders, and the in-house service was a little slow because of that. They serve authentic Indian food, and the ambiance is cozy and nice—perfect for a date night, especially if you enjoy small spaces with corner tables and candlelight vibes. We ordered: • Samosas • Paneer Kali Mirch • Langar Wali Dal • Lemon Rice • Chilli Cheese Garlic Naan • Butter Naan Everything was absolutely delicious with unique and fresh flavors. We really loved the food! Overall, a great place to visit, but we’ll definitely choose takeout next time due to the limited seating. Highly recommended for Indian food lovers! 🇮🇳✨

The food here was amazing and authentic tasting! Everything we had was great. This size of the restaurant is very small, and service was average, but since the food was amazing I didn’t really care. There is a second branch around the corner which is more spacious than this one.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Patiala Indian Grill is hands down the best Indian restaurant in Midtown New York! Their food is consistently delicious, and their vegetarian options are absolutely outstanding. The lunch box special for just $13.99 (+tax) is such a steal—you get one roti or naan, two sabzis, one daal, and rice. It’s filling, flavorful, and such a great value. The staff here are always polite and attentive. If you visit, definitely ask for Mr. Tareeq or Mr. Srinivas—they go above and beyond to make sure you’re taken care of. Even the owner is so warm and helpful, which adds to the welcoming vibe of the place. I recently ordered biryani to-go, and Mr. Tareeq not only packed extra raita but also surprised us with complimentary Gulab Jamun. That kind of thoughtfulness and love is what makes this place so special. Every visit here is full of joy, flavor, and amazing hospitality. 10/10 recommend—you’ll love it as much as I do!

Recently visited this restaurant for dinner. Tried the bhajiye (super tasty!), 'Langar wali daal' (had an amazing home-cooked taste), Garlic Naan, stuffed kulcha, and Kadhai Paneer - all were highlights 👍. Only downside was the dim lighting, made it a bit hard to see. Overall, great food experience! Highly recommend 😊.

Nice north indian restaurant in New York. A very cozy restaurant and is very busy and the service is good. We were seated in 15 min. The food came out quick. The pani puri and the Aloo tikki was good. So was the Panner tandoor and the chilli chicken. Portion size is also good for appetizer. For entree we had the chicken Chettinaid and the baigan bharta. The bharta was so spicy but couldn't taste the brinjal at all. The chicken was however good.

Had lunch here today with a couple of friends. The service was great and the food was what I would call American spiced Indian food, it definitely was missing some of the heat, but otherwise tasted very good. Their prices are different for eat in and takeout even if getting the same items. So if you order on seamless you will pay $18.95 for a lunch special, while in house it will be $16.95 for example. The space is also very small and crowded, with tables being very close together, and not much space between chairs and tables.

One of my favorites for Indian food in the city. No frills, but most of their dishes have authentic Indian taste and flavor. The spice mix for each dish is distinctive. Can do better with ambience and cutlery. Overall, a good experience and would recommend.

Food was good quality and super yummy, the place was a bit small and not best AC but the wait wasn’t long and the food was really yummy! Employees were really nice, the garlic naan was really garlicky. We liked the walnut chicken dish the best. I’d recommend!

This is in the W 34th street and it's a really small restaurant. We went for dinner around 7:30pm, and had a wait time of 20-25 mins, plus there is no waiting area, you need to wait outside the restaurant. The kitchen area is well lit but the dining area/tables gets its light only from the candles at each table, can be a little brighter though. The food served is excellent, no problems with that. This is in the prime area near to the Empire State Building and is priced accordingly.

P
Preeti Ravindran

Located in the main city, somewhat close to the Empire State, this Indian food served here is a relief. The starters were amazing, main course not so much. But overall quite a nice spot when craving for Indian delicacy. We ordered tandoori chicken and chicken 65 for starters. Chicken 65 is a must have!!! For main course it was patiala chicken curry, which was okayish, and kadai paneer, which was better than the chicken curry. They don’t serve complimentary rice here, not sure if it’s a NewYork thing or just upto this restaurant. We ordered it additionally. Also ordered few varieties of bread, which was good. The only thing we missed here is chai!!! They didn’t have it. In the extreme winters we really wished they would serve chai, after all what’s an Indian food experience without adrak wali chai or whatever your taste is…

Oh wow, let me tell you about this incredible food I had! 🤩 The butter chicken and garlic naan were absolutely amazing! 🍛🥖 They were bursting with flavor and had me craving for more. The paneer tikka was pretty decent too, satisfying my taste buds. 😋 However, the daal was a little on the salty side, which was a bit disappointing. 🧂 Overall, though, it was a delightful dining experience with some hits and a slight miss. 🍽️🌟 Also, we went on a Sunday, which happened to be their busiest day. The staff seemed a bit overwhelmed and not as attentive as usual, probably because they were swamped with customers. It took them a few extra minutes to listen to our requests. Plus, there was a bit of a wait before we could even get into the restaurant since they were fully booked. Despite that, the food made up for the slight inconvenience! 🌟🍽️

This restaurant is a small and quaint place but it’s flavorful and aesthetic in Indian food taste. My wife and I just stumbled upon this place by randomly choosing an Indian restaurant to go to and have a hands down meal with no flairs, bells and whistles. Just the food was on our mind. We ate the Chicken65, Dal Tadka, Bhindi Masala, naan and Mutton Dum Biryani. The Chicken65 and Dal Tadka is a must do. The Biryani is not spicy. Can be better. Go into this restaurant and have a good time by letting your hair down.

I recently visited Patiala Indian Grill and had a great experience with the food. The naan, butter naan and chili garlic naan, paired perfectly with the flavorful Patiala chicken curry. Just a note: if you love your food spicy, make sure to ask for it extra spicy as their spicy wasn't quite hot enough for our taste as Asian food lovers, though the flavors were still excellent. The biryani was also a highlight and very enjoyable. However, the service was lacking. Despite the delicious food, we felt overlooked, as we had to repeatedly ask for things like silverware, which we didn’t receive until after finishing our meal. It’s a small, busy place, and it seemed like the staff was more focused on the white clientele. Great food, but service could use improvement.

After a long train ride to Moynihan station in NYC it was delightful to meet my friend and have dinner at Patiala Indian Grill. We were greeted and served promptly, seated near the entrance. My entree was a bit disappointing but I loved the cheese naan. Patiala Indian Grill is a popular place for exotic Indian cuisine and it was so awesome to eat here.

Cozy, charming space. Vindaloo was excellent. Spicy but tasty. We had the chicken and the lamb. Both were very tender and flavorful. The garlic naan was delicious. Looking forward to trying more options.

Patiala Indian Grill, located in the vibrant Garment District of New York City, offers a refined take on traditional Indian cuisine. The restaurant has earned high praise for its rich flavors, attentive service, and the blend of North and South Indian dishes. The ambiance is welcoming, making it suitable for both casual dining and special occasions. Patiala Indian Grill offers an excellent dining experience, combining authentic Indian flavors with an upscale presentation and efficient service. For those looking to explore Indian cuisine in New York City, this spot remains a top recommendation. Whether you’re a fan of traditional curries or seeking to try something new, Patiala delivers quality across the board.

This place is quite small but has a lively and cozy atmosphere. I came here for my birthday with a group of 4 and we had to wait a bit which was fine by me. The food was very good but I had never expected butter chicken to be so sweet? I suggest asking for it very very spicy to cut the sweetness or order a tiki masala which I fell in love with! I loved the butter naan bread cause it was nice and crunchy but the plain one was nice and soft and fluffy. While the pita bread was also pretty crunchy but it was fine by me. The panini puri was a shocker by how it tasted. Personally it turned out to not be my thing even though I had dream of trying it for so long. They do have other locations so I will probably try those out when I get the time to.

Made reservations. The place started filling up and was full house by the time we were leaving! The Staffs were very friendly and efficient. Our food came to the table very quickly! Drinks were delicious! The shrimp curry was delicious but the rest of the food was alright - not worth the price tbh. We ordered some apps and it lacked salt and was bland. Told them to make it a little spicer for the mains and they delivered! The place was had very dim lights - needs some good lighting - it was honesty difficult to read thru the menu or properly see the food

Patiala Indian Grill is conveniently located on the corner of W 34th Street, in a small, cozy space that accommodates about 10 to 15 seats. Despite its modest size, it offers flavorful and well-prepared dishes that reflect authentic Indian cuisine. The restaurant also has a larger setup with a bar located at W 35th Street, providing a different dining experience. I visited with a few colleagues from work. I ordered the Hot Lentil Coconut Soup, a creamy and mildly spicy starter, along with a traditional Salted Lassi to cool the palate. For mains, I enjoyed Kurkuri Bhindi (crispy fried ladyfinger), Paneer Chilli (spicy paneer with peppers and onions), Egg Curry, Chilli Garlic Naan, Dal Tadka (spiced lentil gravy), and Zeera Rice (cumin-flavored rice). My colleagues tried Tandoori Murg (bone-in tandoori chicken), Pepper Lamb, Sweet Chilli Chicken, and Chicken Curry. All dishes were authentic, thoroughly cooked, and tailored to Indian taste preferences. You can request your preferred spice level to suit your palate. Overall, it’s a good option to consider for flavorful Indian cuisine in the area.

Definitely come by here when the weather is terrible. I popped in for lunch this past Thursday, which boasted atrocious humidity and intermittent rain storms. As a result, there were a few tables available, which I imagine is not often the case. This place is SMALL. I've been to my fair share of NYC restaurants so I always know going in that the square acreage is going to be pretty limited but this really might have the tiniest dining space I've encountered to date. One of my colleagues recommended I try the butter chicken, and it was the right call. I have Indian food fairly regularly, but it's the "safe" stuff - it's almost always Chicken Tikka Masala and/or some type of paneer. This was my first time trying (or even hearing of) butter chicken, and I think I'm officially converting to this chicken going forward. It's very similar to Tikka Masala, but not as tomato-ey and seemed creamier and overall more flavorful. The chicken was very tender and the pieces weren't insanely big where I ended up eating like a barbarian or awkwardly trying to split it up into multiple bites within the sauce. Really hit the spot. When in Rome/Delhi, you have to get some Naan. I just went with the plain variation (they offered several variations including garlic, which sounded intriguing) and primarily dipped it in the tomato/butter gravy. Can never go wrong with Naan, and I think it particularly hits on a crummy, gloomy day like this one was. The service was pretty decent. I was on a time crunch but was able to order very quickly - I'd say the food came out within 10 minutes or so, which certainly isn't bad for a legit entree. It did lag a bit toward the end, when I'd wrapped up and was looking for the check. That's another issue with the condensed space; if one or two customers need assistance, it's tough to make eye contact with anyone. In this instance, my primary server was occupied with other customers, and the other server (who assisted me as well intermittently) wasn't busy but also wasn't actively attentive/looking to assist. Not a huge deal, and overall it was still a positive. The one other issue I encountered (and interestingly, I heard this come up literally three other times while I was in there) was Patiala's decision not to allow sit-down customers to utilize the lunch menu. I'm really not understanding that one at all - people were told repeatedly that the lunch specials were only for take-out/delivery customers. I honestly can't think of a basis for this other than an in-person cash grab, but it was a little frustrating to spend $30 on a dish that was a lunch-size portion - you shouldn't be financially punished for giving a restaurant some additional business. That's something I'd definitely reconsider on their end; feels like an unforced error that's primarily just going to alienate potential customers. Bottom line though, the food was really good. I'd be concerned about the seating situation on a day with actual sunlight so I'm probably using these guys specifically for to-go situations, especially given the aforementioned lunch special kerfuffle.

It is a small place to accommodate a large group but It’s NYC so sorta makes sense. It was busy place around new year, went for late lunch. Waited for 30 minutes before we sat down. Appetizer came quickly but it took about 30-35 minutes for main course to come. Chilli Chicken 4/5 ⭐️, Mango lassi 3/5 ⭐️, Paneer lababdar 3/5. Place was busy and service was extremely slow 2/5 ⭐️. Overall give one time a go.

One of the best Indian places when it comes to ambience. Food taste was ok. We ordered paneer lababdar and veg tikka but both of them had same gravy and somewhat mild when we ordered medium spicy. We enjoyed the atmosphere and complimentary here.

R
RC Damle

Do not dine-in. Only a few tables and super cramped. Literally elbows touching each other. Food was good - tried the Gobi65 which tasted more like besan. The paneer lababdar was a bit on the sweet side and not savory. $8 for a chili garlic naan?? Crazy. I’m sure this place is highly rated for take-out.

This place really needs some light.. outside and inside both lights. I thought the place was closed. It’s very small place. We didn’t get place to sit. But the lighting inside was very very poor.. I’ll need to see what I’m eating in the night. We had to take out and we had chicken biryani, egg biryani and Jeer rice. And we also got only one raita. There was no name written on the box. Packing bag , cutlery was good. The quantity and pricing was not matching. It’s too expensive. Chicken biryani was good taste. Egg biryani - they had fried boiled egg with coating not removed .. which was bit rubbery. Jeera Rice - was also good. Perfect for kid.

Great and delicious food! The place is so small that it isn’t comfortable for two people to eat comfortably without disturbing the nearby table. They could organize the place a bit better for people to sit comfortably and eat. The dishes were a bit expensive compared to other similar restaurants near by but tasted good. The service was good but not great! They couldn’t hear to our orders and were in a hurry to get them. Overall a good place to eat and service could be better. Will give an another try!

S
Shoyeb Ali

I will surely say that the food was good — especially the butter chicken and dal makhani with rice. However, what I found very inconvenient was the lack of space. We were six people, and it was not comfortable to sit and eat peacefully. Secondly, the compulsory addition of 15-18%service charge was surprising. This should be optional for customers. We have visited many restaurants in Buffalo and San Diego where service charges were not mandatory. Basically, you cannot force a customer to pay a service charge without giving them a choice.

D
Danny K

The food was decent, a bit spicy, but not too spicy for me. I was surprised that an entre doesn’t come with rice or nan and the appealing lunch special advertised on a sign outside is for takeout only. That was disappointing. I have never seen a takeout only lunch special. I mean, come on. Also, there is no entre vestibule so on a freezing day like today a blast of cold air came in every time the door opened, which was frequent. That made it an uncomforable dining experience. And really, not offering a lunch special to people who dine in and not having anything come with an entrée, which at $18 was not cheap just for lentils, I found it to be not a good deal. That said, one thing I did appreciate is that they have a vegan section of the menu which many restaurants do not have. So there are definitely pluses and minuses to this place.

Really expected to love this place but was pretty disappointed by a few things. The service was fine, neither great nor bad. However, I wish there had been some kind of flavor profile about the dishes. I ordered the paneer lababdar on recommendation from the server. I expected it to be savory and even a bit spicy, but it was sweet. Like grossly sweet. I really didn’t enjoy it. And my mom ordered the murgh saag (chicken & spinach) expecting it NOT to be spicy since there was nothing in the description or ingredients that implied heat, but it was actually pretty spicy and she can’t eat spicy food, so she didn’t eat much of it. We couldn’t trade dishes because I’m vegetarian. Also, everything is a la carte, so you have to pay for rice. Not a fan of that. Aside from the food issues, the restaurant is incredibly cramped; you are seated literally elbow to elbow with the people at the tables on either side of you. It’s so tightly packed in there that the servers must pull the chair and table all the way out into the “center” of the restaurant in order for the person sitting along the wall to get in and out of their seat (see photo). With 20+ people talking in such a tiny space, you literally can’t hear your companion(s) without shouting. And on the night we went, it was about 90° inside the restaurant and the heat was blasting. It felt like a sauna in there. We won’t be back.

V
Vasundhara Acharya

This place was a disappointment. It is very small and has limited seating. We were seated in a very congested area and made to move to accommodate more people. The starters were good. The paneer butter masala did not taste good. It was very sweet and full of cardamom flavor. The owner seemed to know a lot about Indian food, but the taste was not close to a good Indian curry.

The waiter got the appetizer wrong and made us paid for what we didn't order without offering to replace the dish. None of the entree come with rice or naan, just the dish alone. Price isn't cheap and the portion is small. Food does taste pretty good thou.

Extremely overpriced, inauthentic, and bland food with overdose of artificial coloring. The masala chai was $10, with zero masala taste to it and room temperature. When we brought this to the server’s attention he said they can’t change that which implies the chai is not made fresh with fresh spices and likely comes from some cheap ready to serve packets. The paneer I ordered was absolutely sad and again overpriced. Tasted nothing like chili paneer and bright orange with food coloring. After the appetizer course, we had the used spoons in the plate to be taken away and the servers put the used dirty spoons on the place mat for us to use for the next course! They expect people to keep using the same utensils the whole meal even after they have put them on the table surface. This place tries to cosplay as a fine dining spot seeing the atmosphere and pricing but definitely does not deliver a fine dining experience.

R
Roopa Jagadish

I had a terrible experience here — they only told us while ordering that there was a mandatory $30-per-person charge, which felt misleading and basically forced on us after we were already seated. The policy is overpriced for what the restaurant actually offers, and the whole thing came across as a tactic to squeeze money out of customers rather than provide honest service. The food was nowhere near worth the required spend, and I definitely wouldn’t recommend this place.

T
Travel Bug Bee

First of all they don’t let you walk in. You are forced to reserve by committing to a $30 minimum spend. When you are a family with kids you may not be able to justify that spend. However, we went ahead and booked as everyone was hungry. Food was alright, didn’t justify the expense. Their menu clearly states there is an automatic 18% gratuity for groups of over 4. Our bill came with an 18% gratuity added. When we asked the server his explanation was that they are shift workers who only get paid via tips. Sorry, but that doesn’t allow you to sneakily add 18%. When confronted further he said he would go check and came back and said yea it’s supposed to be 15%. I found these business practices very sneaky and for this reason I would not recommend this place.

S
Sulagna Sen

The place is really congested. They really need to improve the seating. We were 2 people dining and they seated us in a very narrow space between 2 already occupied tables. The place is very tiny. Service was decent but the food was not good. The gravy of paneer butter masala was sweet and felt like there was artificial colour added in all food items. Sheer disappointment, pricing was not justified for this level of food quality.

E
Emilia Jeckel

The waiter (I think he was the owner?) kept coming pressuring us to order. We just wanted something small and he was trying to convince us to get something bigger (meaning more expensive). My friend then took something bigger after his recommendation and it was so spicy she couldn’t eat it. He should have told us that when recommending. My other friend only wanted drinks and he asked her 3-4 if she doesn’t want to order food.
