We ordered chicken tenders, the Farm burger, the Hot Honey Chicken sandwich, and the chicken pot pie. We were all extremely happy with the quality and flavor of the food. The chicken tenders were perfectly cooked. (Note: if ordering for kids, be sure to cut and let cool before letting them eat them). The combination of flavors on the Hot Honey Chicken sandwich were well-matched. The chicken pot pie was a traditional pot pie, not the version you may be used to seeing in a tin pan. The food came out pretty quick and everyone was very friendly.
We came on a Saturday morning for a late breakfast. They were short handed - only 1 server for the entire dining room. But you’d never have known it - Wendy was amazing and managed the entire front of house with ease. The staff supported her at every step and was amazing. And the food came out fast and was soooo good! Highly recommend the topless mimosas. The house jam is stellar too. Awesome team, great experience!
It exceeded our expectations. Loved the fresh food, specially their homemade tartar sauce. Their service was outstanding and the ambiance perfectly executed, including beautiful fresh flowers at each table.
I’ve eaten at a bunch of places in Julian, I expect the long wait and slow service but this place was good to go. We figured since it was on the outskirts it would be less busy and we were right. Greeted and seated immediately by friendly people. As everyone else said, big, bright and clean. Everyone was super friendly and drinks and food came fast. Now let’s talk food. Ordered the onion rings and Aussie fries for an appetizer. Guy at the table next to us said the rings were excellent. Rings came out first and were gone in a minute. Aussie fries were next and they took us back to the Del Mar fair. So good. I got the Reuben and baked potato salad. Great sandwich and the salad was good but I liked my son’s French fries better. Wife got the grilled cheese with brisket and she ate it all. My daughter got the crack chicken tacos which were spicy for her but the pickled vegetables and sweet kale salad on it balanced it out, we all loved it and despite other reviews, there were two big pieces of chicken on there. My son had the wagyu and wild boar burger medium rare, it was cooked correctly. It was excellent and we surprised our 11 year old liked it with the kale apple slaw. We over ordered and took home a lot of leftovers but it was worth it. We will be back for more. Thank you.
We were very pleasantly surprised with this restaurant. It's changed hands many times over the years and this is easily the best this place has ever been IMO. Service was great, food was quality. What's not to like!
Delicious food !!! My family and I like to stop at this cozy restaurant. We love their country atmosphere and country style menu....and is a must stop to enjoy breakfast. We're gonna have to try the rib-eye stake dinner next time we visit Santa Ysabel....
Taking a Fall drive through the Laguna Mountains, we planned to grab a bite to eat in Julian. Unfortunately, on the weekends, Julian is insanely crowded so we opted to continue to Santa Ysabel. So glad we did because I discovered Farmhouse 78, a most excellent restaurant! The food is awesome and the service is very good. The pricing is reasonable and the atmosphere is friendly and comfortable. I had the Reuben sandwich and my sons selected from their variety of burgers. They also have a full menu of other comfort foods. I highly recommend...
Great place to eat just outside of Julian. Unique twists on menu (such as Aussie Fries, which are kind of like potato skins, but beer battered and criapy). The kale apple slaw was delightful as a side for the Buffalo Chicken sandwich. Wendy was an awesome server. We will be returning here!
My daughter and I went here. She was very happy with her dish. I'm vegetarian and gluten intolerant so they accommodated me with not putting seasoning on the fries and I had a good salad.
What a great find in Santa Ysabel! My wife and I ran across this place on the way to Julian and stayed for breakfast. The decor was modern farmhouse; clean and well done. The food and service were great. Probably the best restaurant I’ve eaten at in the Julian area. It’s now on our must stop list.
Visit #2 April 2023. Today, Easter Sunday we went for our celebration. Just the two if us. Our wait staff was Wendy. Very cheerful and pleasing. Ordered the Farm Wife breakfast. There was more than enough food on the plate. However this time around, the crispy hash browns were very salty for my taste if eaten by themselves. Also the bottom of the hash browns were a little too charred (black) for my taste too. After eating them with the egg and salad it helped tone down the salt. The sourdough bread i ordered was very dry, it did have butter and came with jam. . My husband ordered the Ranch Hand Breakfast. He had the same opinion about the hashbrowns. Too salty, charred on the bottom. The two sausage patties was really over cooked to the point of being very dry, it also came this other potatoes which he did not eat and pancakes that were just okay in his opinion. This time around we were pretty disappointed in our food. Visit #1 March 2020 Very clean, friendly, no rush attitude and our choice of food was really good. On this, our first visit, we chose, a salad, shrimp cocktail, clam chowder soup, mushroom ravioli, ribeye steak with baked potato, and hard cider with pomgranet. The dinner salad was enough for two people. So we decided to share this and the wait staff delivered the salad with two extra plates for sharing. The clam chowder was excellent, chunks of clams in every bite. We are always looking for a good tasting chowder. The chowder is served on a daily basis as well as a tomato basil soup. The ribeye steak was huge. Definetly enough for two and possibly three people. The menu states 14 -16 oz. serving size Servings were generous and we were able to share with each other which was a good thing. They offer 3 different menus according to the meal time, breakfast, lunch or dinner. While some items are the same on each menu, there is a good variety of items to choose from. We do plan on returning and if you are in the area I would suggest you make Farmhouse 78 a stop on your travels you won't be dissappointed.
We had a party of 5 for lunch, and everyone was impressed with their meals. We had the fried pickles (long thin slices, not the standard coins), and Aussie fries (large thick potato boats loaded with all the toppings) to start with, and then clam chowder (phenomenal), grown-up grilled cheese, Barn on fire burger, BBQ Chicken, and hot chicken sandwich. Portions were generous and flavors were expertly paired. They also offered slices of pie from the Julian pie company (located right next door)for dessert. We enjoyed the caramel apple, Dutch apple, and mountain berry, all served warm, and topped with ice cream on request. A trip to Farmhouse 78 is worth the drive if your in the San Diego area. We dove over an hour to come here and it was totally worth the time.
We eloped and decided to have dinner with a small group of family members here. Cathi and her team did a great job. The servers delivered excellent customer service but the food was another level, I was impressed by the amazing flavor and quality of the food, and so were my family. Every single person there complimented the food and asked me how I heard about the place. We plan on coming back to have lunch together soon. Thank you Farmhouse 78 for our beautiful apple spice cake, and thank you so much to the two great servers that took care of us.
This is my go to place after camping/backpacking in Anza Borrego State Park. The service is great and so is the food. You have to try the fried pickle appetizer and the peanut butter and jelly wings. Special shout out to Cindy, our favorite server ❤️
We enjoyed breakfast so much we returned the next morning! A 10 minute drive from Julian, where we stayed, we enjoyed the fresh, delicious fare. I ate the mushroom fritatta and the farm wife's breakfast. The complimentary pecan pumpkin baby cakes were delicious! I also recommend the biscuit, the potato fries, and pancakes. After breakfast we went to the nearby Nature Center in Santa Ysabel for a beautiful hike.
A wonderful stop on Route 78, between San Diego and Julian! Had their Thanksgiving meal, and was surprised at how good the food and service was, especially for the Holidays. Some of the best soup and sides I've ever had in my life. Without a doubt the creamiest swet potatoes and mashed potatoes I have EVER had. Definitely lovingly made, despite it being busy with the holiday. Inside and outside are both just beautiful, with peppers growing along the front door, a large welcoming patio, and a cozy interior. All in all, it was a very present lunch with family, and I'd highly recommend this place to anyone wanting to have a wonderful lunch with their family.
Came here after hiking Eagle Rock and we were not disappointed. Great trendy atmosphere, food and service. Portions are fair for the price and the fries were awesome!
Great food and huge portions. The restaurant is very inviting and clean and service was very good too. When the platters arrived our whole group was just awe-struck with how much food they had, especially the ham steak. Worth the stop during our visit to Julian.
Great food, great service. Ordered the hog wild and triple b burgers. We preferred the triple b burger w bbq sauce, bacon, and cheese. The hog wild which had some boar meat was a little dry, but tasty. The atmosphere is cute, farm like, but can be noisy if crowded. Onion rings and French fries are outstanding, fresh and made from fresh potatoes and onions. I would definitely come back.
Great food and service! A lot of it is made from scratch and the burger was great! It wasn't busy at all, stop in if you're in the area!
I opted for chicken pot pie and my fiancé had a Rueben with The Onion rings The Onion rings.I don't know how they were because I didn't try one, but they looked a little bit maybe on the greasy side, (arent they all) but the pop pie was absolutely a 10 and was served with his cute little chicken cut out biscuit on top and was absolutely the best comfort food. The service was great. The atmosphere was wonderful. The parking is easy. Definitely stop here when you go by!
Nice eatery to stop on a long drive back home from the local mountains. Lunch was good, the service was too. I liked the french toast and poached eggs with some Tabasco sauce. Whatever we needed or asked for, condiments and the like, the service team would make sure we got it. They were nice and friendly people. All-in-all it was good American food. I recommend this brunch stop if you are in the area.
We accidentally stumbled on this spot by accident. However this was a pleasant surprise, the food was delicious and I don’t mean like it’s good delicious I mean it’s delicious ….delicious!!! I took a couple of my young friends over here and we all enjoyed our meals. I got the turkey sandwich which was big and tasty! Would go again and also the carrot cake was also a great addition to the end of our meal. Also the waitress which I forget her name was also very patient and kind. Thank you again for this wonderful food.
Great stop while in the San Diego backcountry having adventures. This was my second visit after hiking in the area. They have all the food you are craving! I had the fish and chips the first time. Crispy and nicely prepared. This time I had the cowboy salad, minus the bacon. A hearty and delicious salad. Both times I enjoyed their fries. Not too thick or too thin, cooked properly and not overly salty.
We both had the Chicken Pot Pie. It was delicious. The crust was Puff Pastry that went down into the bottom.

Stopped on our way to Julian. What a treat! Adorable atmosphere and food was delicious. The hot honey chicken sandwich? The best!!! Our server Cindy was so sweet. She was very helpful and kind. Thank you for a wonderful experience 😀
Unplanned stop for lunch on our way to hiking in Julian. Wendy the server was nice . The food was good with large portion sizes. Large dining room with cute farmhouse decor and a relaxed setting. I had fish and chips with homemade apple slaw and tartar sauce. My husband had the pastrami hoagie with tomato basil soup. Both were good. Will come again to try the chicken pot pie. We left happy and full.
Great place for lunch in Santa Ysabel. This was our first visit but not the last. Staff were friendly and seemed happy to be there. Food was delicious and really tasted homemade. Big, bright and very clean inside. My only (minor) complaint was the chairs are really heavy to move. Highly recommend.
Good sized menu, fair prices. We had already had dessert (apple pie) nearby, so we shared the fried pickles and a grilled cheese sandwich and tomato soup. Sammy comes with so many fries! All very good. Place was quite busy at 12:30 on a chilly Saturday
Clean, friendly, and incredibly dog-friendly—dogs are totally welcome without any extra hassle. Super chill vibe. My dog, who sometimes barks at servers, was relaxed here. The ahi appetizer was tasty, and the Farmhouse Burger was excellent.
What an awesome meal! The fried pickles, crack tacos, and potato salad were incredible. The kids also really loved sharing the chicken tenders and lemonade. The service could have been a bit better. We will definitely be back.

I meet with my family there every year for our Christmas gathering. Food is decent. I had the "triple B". Also, got a piece of carrot cake, was pretty good. Nice drive out to the place as well.
We came here around 11 a.m. and got seated right away. I ordered chicken tender with kale slaw and French fries. They’re all pretty tasty. The fish and chips were great as well. They also have apple cider and apple pie for dessert. I really like the southern style decorations. There are plenty of parking spots. A great place to visit.
On the way to Julian, CA., I've always passed by this unsuspecting little restaurant on the corner Hwy 78 and Hwy 79 intersection. (To be honest, we should stop at this corner to go to the Julian pie shop and just overlook this restaurant, BUT NOT NO MO!!). Wasn't sure what to expect walking in here, but was pleasantly surprised. The greetings were warm and we were seated fairly quickly. Our service was great and our server Wendy ( "like from Peter Pan", her words not mine) was attentive and great! She had some great recommendations and suggested we get the French toast ( $12). It was light with a great outside crunchy texture and chewy inside. Also, she suggested getting the hash browns with our orders vs. Farm potatoes. We ended up getting the Farmers Wife ($16), our friends the chicken and waffles ($17), and Mushroom frittata with a side of sausage patties. All pretty exceptional. Also, mimosas and beer are served here with suggestions of food pairings with beer! There is plenty of room for the family, toddlers, strollers so bring the fam. When you're in the area def drop by!
Girlfriend and I stopped here for brunchnon way to Ocotillo Wells. Nice inside, clean and comfortable. Food and service was mostly good. Only two minor issues was #1 hashbrowns and toast was almost swimming in butter or oil, so be sure to tell them to go easy on it. Photo shows empty hashbrown plate and you can see the oil. #2 All we wanted was a breakfast sand wich but the item was not on the menu. Server said they cant make it. Ridiculous. I said, do you have bread? Yes. Do you have eggs? Yes do you have a meat like sausage? Yes. Uh, you can't put them together to form a sandwich? Nope, they wouldnt do it. I literally had to build the greasy sandwich at the table. All ingredients tasted ok, just a little greasy.
This was my first time in town and we came here for breakfast. My goodness the food was delicious! We were surprised it wasn't packed on a Saturday morning when we walked in. We were seated promptly by the very kind hostess. There was a beautiful piano in the restaurant that I wish someone was playing! We ordered The Farmer and the Classic Combo. The Farmer had a delicious and large home cooked buttermilk biscuit on top with a very good house made sausage gravy! It was a so good! And for the Classic Combo, I got sausage with Sunny Side Up eggs and an English muffin on the side. The sausages had great flavor and the hasbrowns were cooked so well! I also ordered a hot hocolate and it was quite large but also very delicious! When the server brought put our food she asked if we wanted yot sauce and I asked what kind they had and she named 3 and we asked for all three and she gave us an annoyed look that made us feel uncomfortable and I actually thought it was pretty rude.. she made us feel like she was fake nice to us the entire visit.. that was kind of weird but the hosted was genuinely sweet to us, she even gave us a refill on coffee and greated us even we left. The food is good, definitely worth a visit!
Went to Palomar mountain and end up Farmhouse 78 Came here with friends. Restaurant had strong reviews. Reviews showed great menu with great food choices. Place was busy for a Saturday afternoon. We waited about 10-15 minutes for a party of 3. Which is pretty reasonable for today's restaurants. I chose the Jay-bird... Chicken sandwich with fries. My choice was perfect. The food came out in a timely manner. Our drinks were refreshed and plates cleared. Service was spot on and we were happy with our choices. Definitely coming back when we are in the area again. The reviews were spot on. Can't go wrong stopping here for breakfast / Lunch or Dinner

Stopped here to treat my sister to a belated birthday dinner and we were so excited looking at the menu options and learning that everything was cooked from scratch. We ordered the blackberry shrimp to start (delish) she ordered mushroom ravioli as her entree since that's something she doesn't get to have very often, and I ordered the chicken pot pie. Everything tasted great until she found a short, curly hair (you know the kind) in her ravioli a little over halfway into eating it. Unfortunately I was in the restroom when she notified the server who said "I'll tell the kitchen" and that was the last we heard of it. She did bring us a couple cookies and mini muffins at the end, to make up for it, I'm assuming, but my sister would've loved to take home her entree leftovers that she didn't get to eat, so either a comp or replacement would have been appreciated. Also, we ordered ciders, which we didn't realize came in large bottles, enough for 2 servings each, so we easily could have split one. We didn't have drink menus so we just asked the server if they have any ciders and she told us the flavors, so we weren't aware of the size before ordering. The server was really sweet and it's not her fault of course, I just feel like for a meal that cost over $100 including tip, something should've been done. I was too stunned to take a picture but I should have. The atmosphere is cute and they have lots of great menu options.
Everyone else received greeting muffins. Never got a refill on water. Had to ask for the check and had to ask to pay it. They need to hire more wait staff. Food was very good. I would eat there again. Had frittata and breakfast tacos Just eat there again! First ones in. Had wonderful service and the food was absolutely awesome!

Been here several times and really like the food and service is generally good ….. but we went yesterday for lunch and we sat for like 10 mins before anyone brought water or took our order …. but once the food came out, as we were eating , they asked if we were done. said, we are still eating. two minutes later another person comes and ask if we want a box. no - still eating. very weird. then pre-input 22% tip (on top of the 4% surcharge). 😔
200 bucks for 2 people with tip for a steak that's over cooked. The staff is very nice which is why they get 2 stars. They were under staffed it seems because until it was time to pay i didn't see my waitress. At that point I lost my hunger. They tried to give a complementary slice of pie but the price of the meal ruined the night. The place was beautiful and I'll give a second chance. But don't get the special. Stick to the burger
My experience at this restaurant during their Thanksgiving special event was unfortunately very disappointing. We waited an unusually long time simply to be seated, and once seated we waited an additional ten minutes before anyone approached our table. The hostess did not clearly explain the special event menu, which created unnecessary confusion, and the staff appeared overwhelmed and inattentive throughout the evening. The service felt unprofessional and at times even rude, which made the overall experience far below what I expected for a holiday event. I hope management addresses these concerns so that future guests receive the level of hospitality that this establishment aims to provide.
I wanted to share feedback about my recent visit. The experience was unfortunately very disappointing. We waited a long time just to be seated, and once we were finally placed at a table, no one came to ask for drinks, or check in with us. We ended up waiting close to 10 mins anyone approached us at all. When the waitress finally came, she brought tea that we never ordered. We also asked to sit in a different empty section, but the staff refused without explanation and were noticeably rude throughout the interaction.
