Ate from the Outpost 36 food truck at Cowtown Brewing Co in Ft. Worth. Absolutely love every food item we ordered and paired perfectly with the Cowtown beers. I would drive the 4 hours back to Ft. Worth just for another bite of the Smokehouse Burger!
Food was on point! We had the Chopper and Home Slice, okra, and potato salad. All delish. Chef D was super nice and accommodating..he knows the story😏....ty, sir! Sadly they were out of burnt ends for the day, but there was plenty else the hubs wanted to try. Just means we need to go earlier in the day. We will be back for sure.
This is a second outing to Outpost 36 and quickly becoming a fav place to visit. Pricing for meals is on par with other BBQ restaurants, but portion sizes are great. It's a bit more expensive, but I like to get the family size order that feeds about 4 people. They don't skimp on the sides! If there is any criticism, I'd like to order the family version of their dinner online. For some reason only individual plates are offered. If you haven't heard of or tried them yet, you're missing out. Becoming a repeat customer for sure.
Kristin is a great server!! She is SO nice and really made our meal spectacular. Thanks, Kristin!
Amazing food. The brisket has a great bark and the jalapeño sausage has just the right amount of kick to it. This has become our go to BBQ place.
Wow. Where to start?...Having Chef Dwight personally involved in our visit completely elevated the quality of our meal! When we came to the register to order and mentioned that it was mine and my husband's first time there, he said, "OK, go ahead and order and I will bring several other items for you to try." Well, once we each got our trays of food, Chef brought out samples of coleslaw, potato salad, bacon burnt ends, sliced turkey, pork rib, brisket(regular and fatty), mac-n-cheese and elote... Oh, my! The brisket, turkey, jalapeño/cheddar sausage, gouda grits and shrimp, onion rings, the fresh-baked bread and the macaroni were all on point! I won't wear out this review by describing the food but I'll just simply say, this meal was top-notch. We have leftovers for 2 or 3 more meals, easy. Thank you so much, Chef Dwight and all the staff at Outpost 36, for letting us taste the ❤️!!!
Texas soul has landed in the heart of Keller. Tender brisket meets the burbs. Today was my partner and I’s first visit at Outpost 36. Conveniently located off 377, we’ve been eager to give Outpost a go for some weeks now. Upon first impression, we were pleasantly surprised with the cleanliness and decor of the establishment. There’s a large party room adjacent to the front door and after sampling some of their specialties, there’s no doubt in my mind that this would be a great venue for a business luncheon. We ordered a 3 meat plate to share— brisket, burnt Ed’s, ribs, coleslaw & elote— all for 28$$ before drinks and our additional side of Mac. Not only were the flavors giving home town, but who I assume to the be the manager checked on on us mid meal. I really appreciate the customer service and the fair prices at Outpost. We usually have to trek downtown to get good BBQ. I’m happy to introduce a locally owned Mom & Pop into the mix. When we return we’ll make sure to bring the whole family.
Amazing. The banana pudding is incredible. We loved all the food. Brisket sandwiches, Mac n cheese and corn. The kids chicken nuggets were amazing too.
Wow! What can I say? I have been waiting for a BBQ restaurant of this quality to come to my area for so long now. My husband makes wonderful BBQ at home, so if I'm going to go out and pay for it at a restaurant, it better be top quality. And this place is that! Their pork belly is the best I've ever had! Can't leave without trying their fried pies or their banna pudding! Highly, highly recommend Outpost 36!
Brisket was great, smoked picanha good, smoked chicken very good. Heard an angel choir when I tasted the burnt ends!! Texas Twinkie was really good, stuffed jalapeno with chicken and cream cheese. Jalapeno cheddar sausage was just ok. Sides were fine: green beans, fries, Mac and cheese,
Honestly I cannot remember a better BBQ meal in a long time! The recent write up in Texas Monthly was spot on. Chef Dwight is an amazing chef and a really great person. Every single course I had was better than the previous one! Worth the drive from Fort Worth and even Dallas. Chef and the staff prepare an amazing set up on food and I can only provide my highest recommendation!
Was my 1st visit & was with a church group. We had a great time with friendly, helpful staff; good food & great rustic atmosphere. It's a road trip for me to eat here but its worth it & I will be back again soon.
The best atmosphere I have ever been to. Dwight (owner) made sure every customer felt welcomed and needs were met! Then you go and taste the food, it is the BEST turkey you ever had. Then you try the burnt end and it is candied glaze bacon. Then you go and try the brisket, the tenderloin, and the bread! Woah. Let’s talk about the bread, it’s a simple three ingredient bread that compliments the meal so well! They also own Horizon76 if you want good food you go and try this place. It’s the best BBQ in Texas hands down! They also have a meat market, you get the cleanest food, no bad ingredients, GREAT atmosphere, and a full stomach! Thank you Dwight for the great experience and building such a great place!
First time to go. We got there after 8pm. They close at 9pm. They were out of ribs so I ordered the smoked sirloin with Mac n cheese and fried okra. It was ALL so delicious. The sirloin was so tender and flavorful. My husband ordered a hamburger and fries. He says it’s the best burger he has ever eaten. They offer free banana pudding. Yummy! This place was so amazingly good. We will definitely being going back! Highly recommend this place!
Delightful and delicious experience here this evening! We sampled brisket, turkey, Mac and cheese, elote, green beans. Everything and I do mean everything was delicious! The owner visited each table in the dining room to make sure everyone was well taken care of. We mentioned we were sad we’d missed the smoked tenderloin for the day and as soon as he had some ready, he brought us a sample so we could try it! Really friendly environment, all the staff very welcoming. Generous portions mean yummy leftovers for dinner tomorrow as well! Highly recommend!
Texas BBQ at is heart. You'll be welcomed in with a big smile and I hope you brought an empty stomach (and a little cash). Don't be intimidated by the menu. I ordered the Texas Brisket chilli burger. I was not disappointed with the taste. I went up to let the guys who made the burger know how satisfied I was.
The food here is so good! High quantity meats prepared perfectly. They were out of several items on the Thursday night we visited but I'm not sure how common that is. The portions were large and in line with their prices. The desserts were also very good. The staff was very friendly and genuinely seemed like they enjoyed working there. They have a sign that says that they pay everyone there enough that they don't have to rely on tips and to not feel obligated to leave one, but that if you did it would be shared with all hourly employees. I appreciate that and did still leave a tip.
The food was great, we had a brisket and Turkey sandwich. Fries, rings and Mac and Cheese as well. Elite was on point. Overall we will return. Kids eat free w adult entree on Sunday's.
First time here everything was great. I like how you can get served or just get counter service. Texas twinkies were delicious. Chili had great flavor. Mac and cheese was very creamy. Will be back in future.
Went in a Friday night and had Dino ribs. So delicious! Everything we ate was so good. I’ve been to Terry Blacks and to be honest I liked Outpost better. Plus owner was there. So friendly and they grow their own meat in East Texas and you can buy from them as well. Highly recommend
If you are looking for smoked well seasoned barbecue this is the place. I have eaten at Outpost 36 twice now and have not been disappointed. I tried the brisket flautas and they are outstanding. The only draw back from my two visit this far is that the mac and cheese could stand to be a little bit hotter in temp. For me all other local barbecue spots need to be put on notice.
The only thing I can complain about is that I can’t stop eating here. Everything on the menu is better than anywhere else. Yes, the sides are better too. I love the staff, the bar, the atmosphere. Just wow!
We've been to this place twice now and ooh, is it GOOD! I've had the pork ribs and brisket, and oh my goodness. The brisket is delicious! Good amount of fat marbling, great smoke ring, just tender as can be! The pork ribs are smoked to perfection and are just fall off the bone good! I cannot wait to try out the beef ribs sometime! I've also had the potato salad, which is fantastic, and the fried okra, which is probably the best I've ever had anywhere. I love their bbq sauce, too! I have tried both the mild and the spicy and like the spicy one better. It's JUST the right amount of spice, not actually hot hot. But you get to get your own cup of sauce and the sauces are in warmers so it's nice and hot! Also, the sweet tea? Amazing. Can't wait to go back and try more food!
We stopped in tonight for the first time, although we have been wanting to go since we moved here in August. The Dino ribs are so delicious and fall off the bone. My husband and I shared a medium Dino rib and Mac and cheese; it was very filling for both of us! Someone named Dwight (maybe the pittmaster?) came out and asked us how everything was and even gave us a sample of the filet mignon and a loaf of bread for all of us. He was super sweet and we will definitely come back because of his recommendations! Food was delicious and environment was fun and welcoming
Just off the main strip of Hwy 377 in Keller is a pit stop for all kinds of hungry. Outpost 36 is deceptive from the outside. It’s huge on the inside, including indoor seating, bar seating, 2 private rooms and a spacious patio. A large menu of smoked meats and sides to feed your belly beast. My only complaint was the fried okra. Blander than flour, especially compared to the perfectly seasoned onion rings. Western decor without the mess of peanut shells. I’m almost 99.9% their bread is homemade. The soda fountain is old fashion non-gmo good good classics. I wish I had grabbed a second cream soda with my to go order. One for lunch and one for the road. Regular, spicy and white bbq sauces available. And don’t leave without checking out the live feed of your favorite smokers Willy & Waylon!
This was our first time trying this restaurant. My wife pulled up the reviews, and I thought it would be a great place for my birthday dinner. The food was very good and portions were a good size. It's either you like the sauce or not. I did, my wife, not so much. Will most likely visit again and maybe try some different selections.
First time visiting and we had an amazing time! The food was some of the best bbq I can remember having and the staff is friendly and helpful. We had the following. Chopped brisket sandwich (5/5) with fried okra (5/5) 2 meat plate with brisket (5/5) and pork ribs (5/5). Sides of Mac n cuz (5/5) and corn (3/5) 1/4 lb of bacon burn ends (5/5) 2 drinks Total was about $50. Great meal and looking forward to going back!
Service was superb. Staff was very friendly and accommodating. I had the Trinity BBQ Meal: ribs, brisket and sausage with two side. I had more than enough. They food was awesome!!! Will definitely visit again.
Great BBQ and super friendly staff! Their brisket is excellent, but you've got to try the smokehouse burger. Absolutely superb!! Big and juicy with brisket and onion rings on top.
Our server Kristin was fabulous! And the food was amazing! Chef Dwight stopped by our table to check up on us and make sure we were enjoying ourselves. We will definitely come back again! Thank you for a wonderful time!
If I could give 10 stars I would! My honey ordered the three meat plate with mac and cheese and onion rings. I ordered the loaded brisket potato and we also had the deviled eggs. All I can say is wow!! Everything including the complimentary banana pudding was delicious and dare I say, better than my own home cooking... and that's saying something if ya know me. 😉 I loved the cornmeal onion ring batter that gives hush puppy vibes. The mac n cheese was so creamy and the cheddar jalapeno sausage was loaded with spicy flavor. Of course the peppercorn crusted brisket was tender, smokey and had great beefy flavor. Kayla did a great job telling us about everything they have to offer. We absolutely will be back with the whole family!
By far, best BBQ in this area! I recommend the ribs, meat falls off the bone! Mac n cheese also good. Sundays kids eat free and have free banana pudding. Also the service is very nice, there is a bar inside, plus it's extremely clean!
Best BBQ in the DFW area! Had the cold smoked salmon appetizer and three meat plate, everything was amazing! Had the crunchy but soft onion rings and refreshing cold slaw as sides. Everyone was so friendly. After lunch went to the butcher, their products are so fresh and delicious!
This place is great. We got the baked potato with chopped brisket which was excellent. We also got the slow cooked pot roast over mashed potatoes and it was delicious. This was our first time coming here and we were definitely not disappointed. They gave us a banana pudding as a dessert which was great as well. The ambience here is really nice. Highly recommend.
I recently visited Outpost 36 and was thoroughly impressed. I ordered the brisket and ribs plate, and both were executed perfectly—tender, flavorful, and definitely hit the spot. But the real surprise for me was the tallow-cooked French fries. They were absolutely delicious and easily some of the best fries I’ve had in a long time. If you’re looking for high-quality BBQ with sides that actually stand out, this is the place to go. Highly recommend!
Food was delicious. Very tender meats smoked to perfection. Side of beans was very good or what my wife left from eating most of them. I know she loved them. Recommended the Twinkies..
Outpost 36 BBQ in Keller, Texas, the barbecue was delicious. I had their horizon hamburger and it was good. The sourdough bread, hamburger meat and fries that were cooked in tallow, were so good. Their brisket nice and juicy. The people were very nice too. Great customer service! That team should be praised on their attitude there. Their sweet tea is good too. A wonderful place for a family to sit and enjoy a great BBQ meal. They also have tasty ice cream! Sunday kids eat free.
Outpost 36 is so good that my wife and I happily make the drive from Arlington just to eat here, and it has become our new favorite spot for burgers, tallow fries, and ice cream. The combination of juicy, ranch-to-table burgers, crispy beef tallow fries, and rich house-made ice cream makes it worth the trip every single time.
So I've ate here twice. The reason I gave it a 5 star is because the first time I ate was amazing. Exactly what great Texas barbecue should be. The second time there was a few issues. But as a human, I make mistakes. So I'm gonna go off the first time. It's a really great place barbecue in itself is expensive. This place is pretty reasonable. All together. It's a great time. And I would definitely recommend
I was born and raised in Texas, and let me tell you — I’ve chased good barbecue from the Panhandle to the Gulf, from the Hill Country to the Piney Woods, little backroad smokers to the big legendary spots. Brisket joints, rib shacks, sausage temples, you name it… if there was smoke rising, I was there. And after all those miles and plates, this place stands at the top for me. The brisket here? Melts like butter, bark that snaps with flavor, and smoke that hits deep without ever getting harsh. The ribs don’t fall off the bone — they pull just right, the way real Texas ribs should. Sausage is house-made perfection, juicy with that snap when you bite in. And the sides? Not an afterthought — someone’s putting love into those, too. Service always feels like family welcoming you to the table. Place stays clean, atmosphere is pure Texas, and every visit reminds me why I keep coming back instead of chasing the next big name. There are a lot of great barbecue joints in this state — it’s kind of our thing. But after eating my way across just about every corner, I can say without hesitation: this is my favorite barbecue in all of Texas.
Absolutely EXCEPTIONAL! We were invited to join friends, since we never considered dining there, despite passing by countless times. What a surprise! My wife had the chicken pot pie, and it was an unbelievably large portion, made with puff pastry and fried tenders, very delicious. The brisket pot roast portion was enough for 2 man size meals, and better than grandma ever made. This place has it all, bbq section…including with beef ribs at a great price, a bar area, a separate fine dining area with select your steak (with wagyu beef selections), a butcher shop, and with the merger of Horizon 76 menu, there is something for everyone. The service was incredible! The chef even spent time talking to us at our table. They have a large outside patio dining area also….too much for us to take it all in our first time. The pricing is very accommodating in today’s economy. We WILL DEFINITELY BE RETURNING to TRY ALL MENUE ITEMS and dining areas. Mark Rogers
Boston, MA girl here. I have never had real Texas BBQ...OutPost36 is absolutely fantastic! The food was amazing with generous portions that left us more than satisfied. The staff went above and beyond to make our visit enjoyable. A special shoutout to Trevor, who was incredibly informative, checked on us throughout our meal, and patiently answered all of our questions. He’s truly an asset to the company. Ribs, hushpuppies, fried okra, brisket, turkey, sausage....fried twinkies......WE ATE SO MUCH FOOD. We’ll definitely be back and highly recommend this spot to anyone looking for great food and excellent service!
There is a very special reason why I celebrated my 50th birthday with my friends and family at OUTPOST 36! Chef Dwight has mastered BBQ and his friendly staff, Sam, Josh (who will give you the shirt off his back) and Trevor take it to the next level of flavor and service. Chef Dwight has been all over the country trying all the best BBQ joints and has turned OUTPOST 36 and its sister restaurant Horizon 76 into the perfect amalgamation of everything he loves about BBQ. The smoked beef tenderloin is my absolute favorite and I’ve never had anything like it before. The smoke ring is always executed beautifully and it’s tender beyond belief. The brisket and pork ribs are juicy and fall off the bone with good body. The Friday and Saturday only Dino Ribs are a must. Our dog loves the bone when we’re done. The sides are delicious and not overly salty. The slaw and potato salad pair perfectly with all the meats. You can’t go wrong with any of the sides. The fried cherry pie and banana pudding are my favorites to finish. What’s even more spectacular is that anything fried is fried in beef tallow. That’s a game changer for us!! The vibe and atmosphere is relaxing and proud of its Americana! There are no disappointments here. We still discover new things every time and the burgers call to me everyday. The bourbon glazed smokehouse burger is the best I’ve had because it’s pretty and absolutely delicious. Thank you to the entire staff at OUTPOST 36 for the warm smile and well wishes. Also, go say hi to Jordan in The Market at Outpost attached to the dining area. He will guide you through all his premium cuts. You can’t beat the quality and price!!!
Texas BBQ & Southern Hospitality = Outpost 36. Everything is simply amazing. As a person who knows phenomenal food and fantastic customer service, let me tell you, whatever my expectations were, the team at Outpost 36 exceeded them from the moment we walked into the restaurant. My family and I met Mr. Dwight Dowell and instantly claimed him as one of our own. We tried several items on the menu and were treated to a few tasty samples. Tender meats, savory sides, delicious desserts, more-than-generous portion sizes, and service with a smile and a hug. We left with our stomachs and our hearts full. This was hands down the best dining experience we've had in a long time. P.S. I already know what I'm ordering the next time we come!!!
You really can not ask for a better place! The best BBQ place I’ve ever eaten at-hands down! The owner served us and was so friendly. Got to hear some of the story of how the place started , it was pretty neat. My friends and I went for my brother’s birthday and it did not disappoint. I’m super pleased with the food and taste - it’s like my taste buds were having a little dance inside my mouth. My favorite dish was the brisket and elote con creama. Loved loved loved this place. I will for sure be going back!
Service - five stars! The staff was great! Atmosphere - FG I've stars! Very cool place with great decor and plenty of room in space. Food - three stars. The ribs were good. At least half of the sausage I got was overcooked. The brisket did not have much on the flavor profile. Fortunately they have really good sauce. I used to aid with the flavor. With all that being said, barbecue is a highly competitive market here in Texas and they've only been open for 3 weeks. I'll definitely check them out again after they've had a little time to settle in. If you live in Keller, definitely check the place out.
I knocked off a star because they bought out the restaurant next door and now there are way too many servers and the prices have gone up a lot. God bless the owner for bringing all those servers over to his place. So they are not out of a job , but too much is too much. Plus they used to have a specialty Margarita. That was fabulous. But none of the new people know anything about it , and they've taken it off the bar menu. Now it's just a regular Margarita , nothing to write home about just expensive. And the new staff is not nearly as friendly as the old staff was, it was more like family before now. It's just overrun with servers. But the barbecue is still the best we've ever had just more expensive than the usual expensive
The barbeque is good, the sides are really good. The chopped brisket chilli sandwich was good. The chopped brisket baked potato was good but had a lot of grease/oil flowing out of the chopped brisket. The dining area is really clean with a very nicely themed atmosphere. Service is very friendly and fast.
I have been anticipating the opening of Outpost 36 for a while now and was excited to finally get the chance to try it out. I feel like they are a very solid BBQ joint. Not going to beat out any of the smaller craft BBQ places, but better than any chains you could go to. I got a 3 meat plate with brisket, jalapeno cheese sausage, and smoked filet mignon with Mac n cheese and fried okra. Boy was I surprised at how much food came on that tray! Huge plus for the amount of food and I was a big fan of the thick slice of bread. The Mac and okra were great, though I will warn you, the okra was VERY VERY salty. I happen to love that, but I know most people will think it was too much. The meats were all very solid. Nothing to write home about so they landed at a 4 for me but it was a lot of food and it was a pretty cool place. Definitely the best BBQ I've found in the close proximity but not close to my top 5 for the DFW area. Other photo is my wife's three meat plate with the pork ribs, JC sausage, and bacon burnt ended with the Mac and onion rings.
Outpost 36 is a very cool environment with a pretty decent size menu. The meal is good, nothing to sacrifice my wife for but I would certainly go here again. The market part is really cool and the options for the sitting area is also very neat. I recommend visiting this place at least 2 and half times before you go to sleep.
First time visitor. Good to have a decent BBQ place in the area. Tried it on Thanksgiving eve so they were out of sliced brisket and burnt ends. Sides were fine, a bit lukewarm. Again, had that rush id folks picking up holiday meals. Staff and folks were extremely polite and friendly. Gonna give them a other chance for sure!
I was having a birthday and was thinking about what D Magazine BBQ place try. I didn’t feel like making a drive and spending a a lot of money with the family going, so I looked closer to home. I stumbled on this place that I’ve never heard of before and I hit the jackpot. 1. I love the interior and exterior of the place and atmosphere, place was warm and employees inviting. 2. Family Meal was priced right. 3. The ribs were a hit and so tender, sliding off the bone. One kiddo said it’s these best rig they ever had. I wouldn’t go that far, it was good. 4. Brisket was good. 5. Star of the show was the turkey, it was moist and flavorful, that’s hard to do. 6. Sides- liked the beans and ellote corn, Mac and cheese was okay. Overall this is a good BBQ place and we definitely will be back to try more delicious offerings. They only knock was my wife asked for a container to take home liquid filled beans and a worker had to check with a manager before giving the correct container for it, that was strange or too cost conscious.
Pleasant surprise finding good BBQ not too far from home. We ordered a family meal, which they brought to us on 2 trays. No plates. It had brisket (hiding under the bread in the photo), ribs and turkey. It came with 3 sides and 3 banana puddings. For our sides we chose Mac and cheese, elote and beans. Beans tasted great but were too soupy. Meat was flavorful and cooked well. Nice spot, well go back, and hopefully gets plates next time. Seating was comfortable and atmosphere was nice.
TLDR: Just go to Shady Oaks, folks. I'll let the numbers speak for themselves. I've included a picture of our receipt and one of our food. You can see here that they are extremely proud of their ribs. They don't have Coco Cola products, which was a bit disappointing. My wife is diabetic and it's always nice to see good zero sugar options, but their diet soda is honestly terrible. For 91$ I had to bring my own food to our table and clean the table when done (no waitress or waiters). I don't want to sound like a Karen, but you expect certain things at certain price points, for example, ketch up packets??? 91$, and you have me ripping open annoying little packets to get ketchup. I'm disappointed because the food was decent, and we do need another good BBQ spot in the area. I hope they continue to improve and think more about the experience they are giving the customer for that price.
My wife and I went here for lunch today. We were met at the door with a boy telling us a very confusing choice of going left for full table service, or going to the counter and ordering ourselves. Apparently the restaurant next door is closed now? Anyway, we placed our order, and sat and waited for buzzer to go off. We got or order and noticed a few things off: The turkey-a little too salty The brisket-a little too dry The sausage-ok,but not great The bbq sauce-all served ice cold. The staff-all standing around on their phones, no interaction. This place is nothing special.
It wasn't bad, mac n cheese was grainy, not smooth and creamy and had no smoke flavor. Got the beef tendy and it was cold. But the sausage and rings were great.
Everything is super bland. The potato salad tastes like Costco mustard potato salad. Mild sausage tastes flat if that's possible. The BBQ sauce is warmed but tastes like 2 sauces bought from a store and mixed. All and all, believe it or not Dickies tastes better. Which isn't saying much. Save your money and go to Rudy's BBQ and get better tasting BBQ. Sorry this place just didn't hit the mark.
The sides were the best part. The meat wasn’t very flavorful and the brisket tasted like something I can microwave. It looks a lot better than it taste.
I would have to agree with the general comments. The merge of Horizon 76 has really changed this restaurant, I have noticed that there has been a significant change in both the quality of food and the service, to the point where I went twice after the merge and given the price point I’m spending I do not plan on returning. The quality of meats were very dry, supply seems more limited earlier in the day even with similar amount of people in the door, online orders are a mess, and the service is out of place for what I used to enjoy as a casual good barbecue restaurant. I feel like Outpost was just finally getting the recognition it deserved and then a tough decision was made to combine restaurants and now Outpost is just a shell of what it used to be for the market price barbecue is at today. I am sorry this review is so blunt but I am hoping to go back again when there are some significant changes.
Mixed reviews for this restaurant. The turkey was moist and flavorful and the jalapeño sausage was great too. Also, the mac n cheese and fried okra were really good. However, when I eat BBQ in Texas, it’s all about the brisket. And unfortunately, this place serves the driest brisket I’ve ever had! It was crumbling because there was no fat and no moisture. Super disappointing. The restaurant is nice, but the setup is weird and our waitress wasn’t very useful. So, while some things were very good about Outpost 36, I just can’t recommend a bbq place with bad brisket.
New BBQ restaurant in Keller TX area. Pretty good but still in start-up training phase. Sausage was average nothing special. Ribs and brisket were pretty good but very salty. Potato salad was dry. Cole slaw was good. BBQ sauce was not thick enough too runny for me. Bread should have been Texas toast. Atmosphere was nice but very bright for a BBQ place. Service was excellent, chef took care of us on an order issue. Hoping for better experience on our second visit. I'm sure these are growing pains. Recommend and Good enough for a visit.
Brisket was very dry. The ribs were also dry, and didn’t taste fresh. Since ribs and brisket are my go to at a BBQ restaurant, I don’t recommend it.
We went here for brunch and were very, very disappointed with the food. We ordered the lumberjack tray and biscuits and gravy with ham and a side of scrambled eggs. We thought the biscuits would be two big biscuits, but we were wrong. The biscuits were two small biscuits with not much gravy on them, and they were dry. We didn’t get the ham but received chopped meat instead. The wait for the food was long, so we didn’t want to send it back. The chopped meat was clearly old and dry. The potatoes tasted rubbery and had no flavor. The lumberjack tray didn’t come out until almost 30 minutes later. The only good thing about it was the ham and scrambled eggs that came with it. We didn’t finish our meal. I would not recommend this place for brunch—maybe for lunch or dinner. It's overpriced for what you get.
Was forced to eat here after making the drive for Horizon 76 only to realize these two restaurants have combined. The staff was wonderful, friendly, and attentive. The food was a let down. We ordered two kids meals(grilled cheese with mac and cheese and chicken tenders and fries), one meat plate with two sides(turkey with mac& cheese and salad) lastly the smokehouse burger with fries. ALL the items came out barely warm. I didn’t even have to do anything to cool off the kid’s food. We didn’t send it back because I watched them put it in the window and we got it almost immediately which means it’s obviously not fresh. Apparently they only season with salt because all of it was incredibly salty and had no other flavors. So pretty disappointing to spend over $60 for luke warm, salty food.
This was the most dissappointing trip to Outpost 36. I had just flown in town to eat at Horizon 76 and found out it merged into 36 BBQ. None of the best menu items were available (could not believe no steaks or the great pork chop). The drinks at Horizon 76 were the absolute best and it was supposed to be the same. They just flat out sucked!!! We ordered deviled eggs and those were not good, so I asked for the bill. The owner was nice and they did cover the bill, but honestly just so sad about this whole experience.
Went Friday night with a friend. Very expensive for tough tenderloin that you are given a butter knife to cut the meat with. Beans had no flavor and the brisket was greasy and the brown paper stuck to the meat. $80 for two people.
I come here every Thursday night for trivia. The trivia is fantastic! That is about where it ends. In the past couple months they have combined Horizon 76 and Outpost into one restaurant. To say it isn't working, is an understatement! The bar service used to be on point! The bartenders remembered your name, your drink and your tab. Now it is like you are a stranger every time you walk up to the bar. Same questions-what are you having? Do you want to start a tab? (Already have one) What's the name? Oh and Sorry, what do you want to drink? (Asked twice) it has been like that since the bar staff from Horizon replaced Jazzy-additionally it takes forever, even to get a bottle of beer. You order at the counter and they give you a number (new this week) to hang on your table. When your food is ready, wait staff literally wanders around 3 different sections looking for your table. When they deliver your food, they don't take the number -this seems like an obvious thing to do. The food and drinks have all gotten more expensive since the merge also. I used to order WTF (whisky that's frozen). They no longer know how to make the slushie machine the right consistency. The bartender said she will blend with ice -not the same! The machine works but you have to know how to do it. Chef used to come out and ask how we were doing and remembered us. Now there are 2-3 managers that seem desperate for interaction-to seat you, to get you to sit in a certain section, etc.... Very uncomfortable. Trivia has now been banished to the back room which can run hot and there isn't as much room. Will continue to come for trivia but we eat before hand and get a drink if we are lucky.
Im very sad to write this, but since the merge, the food has been super different. The ribs were dry and just tasted like smoke. The turkey, which was always my favorite, also had no flavor and just tasted like smoke. The sausage was still very good. The white sauce was served to me warm and was like gelatinous goo, and tasted nothing like white sauce (as some from Alabama). The service was excellent as always, but the food has gone downhill. Last time I went it was excellent and flavorful. For the price I paid incredibly dissatisfied
Update: We were fans went multiple times a week. But they merged with the restaurant next door and they removed all the reciept discounts and even the kids eat free its now dine in only. I honestly doubt well be back. They literally messed with perfection. Also they preach seed oil free but its not. Their kids chicken nuggets have seed oils in batter yes they are fried in tallow. But when someone's allergic to seed oil it matters. We are fans and now come back every week. We love that its seed oil free. We are so happy we found this hidden gem. Went for trivia night
Tried to dine in but there seemed to be a problem with everything I tried to order. You had a list of meats to choose from but everyone I said I wanted they said could be on a plate. Also had no brisket so you had to pick sausage or chicken to go on a 2 or 3 meet plate. When they go out of business..and they will it's because they worked harder at what they couldn't do for the customer..
So very displeased with my $17.32 sliced Brisket sandwich. I've never had poor service on any of my many visits! Visited the restaurant on 2/1/25 around 6:30, and they were very busy. I waited in line about 10 mins and was able to view my surroundings and in doing so I noticed the staff that were cutting the meat wearing their gloves "kudos" while handling the food, then I saw them wiping their hands on the aprons they were wearing and then saw one of them removing the hat from their head then place it back and adjust it with their fingers that clearly touched their hair without changing the gloves and proceed to get sausage out of the warmer, so I requested that whoever cuts my meat to please change their gloves. So when I got home I looked at my sandwich and had 5 small slices of beef not worth the price on no day of any year ever. The portion was small that a child wouldn't be full after eating. The food is worth trying if you've never been just my experience this visit.
Use to be one of my families favorite..unfortunately closing the Horizon 76 an combining them has been a horrible idea... they have removed several of my family favorites.. such as the Chicken Fried Filet... just went tonight 01/15/2026 and was told that they were no longer offering it or several other steaks options... love the owner great guy and a fantastic cook.... I hate to say I guess it's back to Babes for CFS....
Came here for my birthday dinner. Everything was going fine until we paid and were finishing up eating. My family had planned to leave a tip in cash. A lady I believe was a manager came to our table to ask why we didn’t leave a tip for our server. She confronted us and we felt pressured when they didn’t even give us a chance to leave a tip in cash. That is OUTRAGEOUS. That is NOT how you treat customers, period. So disappointing and disrespectful.
Very disappointing experience. The sausage was cold and the ribs were extremely dry and tough to chew. Definitely not worth it. I won’t be coming back.
The restaurant is clean. However, the food left much to be desired. I ordered hush puppies that were displayed on the digital menu and online. Only to be told they were discontinued. The elotes lacked flavor. The chopped brisket I received was dry and burnt. My fiancé received two wrong items out of four. Was given pork belly burnt ends that were inedible. We came here due to how highly the food was rated by others but cannot understand why anyone would waste their money here. We will go back to our tried and true locations where our money buys us quality food that we are happy to recommend to others.
So apparently, if you order from the cash register area, you are not allowed to sit inside and eat. Or at least that's what the waitress told me. Their menu is not the same as the one they give you at the table The knowledge of the waitress was terrible. when you can't answer questions as simple as what beers are on tap and end up bring me the wrong beer order. Won't be going back. Spent $150.00 and the food was not to standard temperature. Ribs had very little flavor, brisket had a lot of fatty chunks the cheesesteak meat was crunchy, the burgers were over cooked. Most of the food went into containers to go dogs will be eating it for dinner. Over all the 1st time experience was not what you would expect from a place that seems to always be crowded when driving by. The smoked meat are over priced for the place. I guess that's all I have to say.
I come here often. Today’s experience was so disgusting I could not believe I was served these burgers and I won’t be coming back. All undercooked and dripping blood the more I got to the center. They started their new menu since combining with Horizon and I realized the prices were raised to cover all the staff they brought over. You no longer get your own food they bring it you but also gave me a buzzer . Also looks like the side portion got smaller. I’m glad I didn’t tip. $77 for this is criminal.
