A friend of mine took me here last night. Love the atmosphere on a Friday night. The staff were very efficient, can tell they were all working together and made sure all the guests are being tended to. The food was amazing. The octopus carpaccio was delicate and had an amazing texture. Scallops were tender. The pappardelle and rigatoni were phenomenal. I have to go back asap!
I have to say, I truly enjoyed the vibe of this place - it definitely had that authentic Italian mood. The atmosphere, food, and wine were all amazing. We shared a pasta and a rack of lamb. The meat was cooked fantastically — perfectly rare and tender. The best part, though, was how quiet it was inside, which made it easy for us to talk and enjoy the evening.
Lavagna is a restaurant that consistently delivers an excellent dining experience. Whether you are visiting for the first time or returning again, the quality of both the food and the service stands out. The menu is thoughtfully composed, and every dish reflects care, balance, and strong execution. From pastas to entrées, the food is reliably delicious, showcasing high-quality ingredients and confident cooking. There is a clear attention to detail that elevates even the simplest offerings. The service further enhances the experience. The staff is welcoming, professional, and attentive without being overbearing, creating a relaxed and enjoyable atmosphere throughout the meal. Lavagna is the kind of neighborhood restaurant that leaves a lasting impression and rewards repeat visits. With excellent food, great service, and a consistently pleasant dining experience, it is easy to recommend and a standout choice in the East Village.
Fantastic neighborhood Italian spot. The food is incredible with great service. I would come back weekly for the Sweet Pea Ravioli if I could.
This was a phenomenal restaurant with really good food & incredible service. My wife has food allergies which I indicated in the reservation. Before my wife could even note to the server her allergy, as she normally does, our server told my wife right from the beginning that she already checked with the kitchen about the allergy and assured her that her allergens were not used in the food. This place also consistently kept refilling our waters without us asking ensuring we would never go more than just a few moments of being thirsty. The staff was really friendly as well. My one tiny note, which has nothing to do with anything but I just wanted to point it out -- I saw all the reviews of this place and many people described it as "small" or "cozy." So for whatever reason, in my head, I was expecting a tiny spot with maybe a total of like 10 tables. But they actually pack a lot of people into this place and there is not a single table that is "on its own." In other words, if the restaurant is crowded, as it was when we were there, you will be GUARANTEED to be sitting literally inches from a stranger (and possibly one both to your left and your right). Your shoulders will almost be touching. This was not a big deal of course but if you like the vibe of having your own table or booth tucked in a corner and being able to have a nice private conversation, that is not something that is possible here. Again, this isn't a big deal. It is just something that caught me off guard when I walked into the restaurant and then was seated. This also made the restaurant quite loud since there were so many people in such a small area. The loudness does actually give you that ability to make your conversations feel more private in a way. But yea, I just wanted to point that out for others in case for you this IS something that would be a big deal.
Rigatoni is AMAZING. And love the focaccia they serve from a local bakery. Such a cute, homey, neighborhood spot. The staff is really friendly and kind as well.
A hidden family-run italian restaurant. A lovely date night spot or for a long overdue catch up over wine. Always skeptical about italian restaurants, but the food was extremely flavourful. Had the arrabbiata spaghetti, usually not a fan, but SO good. Lovely wine pairing as well. The artichoke and bean puree started was divine
Absolutely a Gem! One of my secret favorite places to go. Typically I would go alone enjoy a three course meal some wine and head home super relaxed and at peace! This place is such a classy soulful place! Cozy; the food is always beyond my expectations! Always looking forward to sharing this place with truly special people. Definitely a memorable romantic date kind of place. Where you go for your anniversary. It’s really that special!!!
Rarely rate anything 5*s and feel like to restaurants in NYC are overrated. But this super low key place exceeded all expectations. Our waitress was genuine in her recommendations which we loved. Scallops, salad and octopus carpaccio apps were well seasoned and fresh. Pasta we tried 2 (ragu & tomato) in half portions which was perfect to try both. Panna cotta is light and great end to meal. Will def come back to try pizza and other mains like lamb.
For us, it's the best Italian restaurant in NY, and probably the best one globally. We first ate here years ago, during a visit to NY, and loved it so much that we returned the following day. We had dinner there this week, during a visit to the city, and the magic remained just the same. Simple, but super tasty food, creative but not presumptios, a great and friendly team, led by the owner, Jorgos (Greek name, that I'm probably misspelling). Don't skip this place!
Lavagna is a quaint, hidden gem in the East Village! We were there on Saturday night with 21 people for a large family celebration for my Mom's 80th birthday. The food, wine, service, ambiance, and value were all exceptional. The food was so delicious and at prices that I was blown away by. I regularly frequent some of NYC's finest restaurants, so have a pretty good benchmark. Our server Rob handled our large party with grace, skill, and great humor. Owner Yorgos is a first-class restauranteur and a great guy. Everyone in our group was incredibly impressed and had the best time. I could not recommend Lavagna more highly!
Very tasty Fedelini Fini which was a fine pasta that’s a little like Angel hair. A basic but delicious and well balanced sauce with garlic and fresh basil. Very satisfying. Fresh baked focaccia served with olive oil and balsamic vinegar. Crunchy exterior and chewy interior. The pana cotta with balsamic reduction was perfect. As someone who has worked in catering, it needed a nice garnish I think but was still delish and that’s the main thing!
This place is an absolute gem! On a quiet peaceful side street, the indoor space is just beautiful, and outdoors is well spaced, separated by plants creating a cozy atmosphere. The FOOD is so good! We had the pasta rigatoni and pork chop and they were both cooked absolutely perfect. Pasta was cooked just right with creamy tomato sauce, sweet peas and fennel sausage yummy. The pork chop was huge served with spinach beans and bacon. And the Service was so friendly, attention was great. They brought out to dog bowls for the pups and kept filling it up with ice water since apparently they were very thirsty. Great attention to detail, service, food, just everything. Will definitely be coming back again regularly
Went on Valentine’s Day and there was a prix fixe. We didn’t know this on the booking and we went for pasta but unfortunately couldn’t try. The food was okay but not particularly good. The service was great though and everyone was friendly. The rose was also a surprise! I heard the pastas their specialty though so maybe I’ll try that next time!
1- Food = Average . 3/5. Nothing memorable about our 3 appetizers. My Main was delicious which was Rigatoni. Pizza was unusually small and not the best tasting. Red sauce was average. Martinis were small and 3/4 full probably because she spilled each one she delivered. 2- Service = Below average 2.5/5 Shout out to the kitchen for managing a very busy dining room pacing the courses perfectly. We don’t like being told that we must order all appetizers and meals all at once especially with an attitude. It’s an immediate turnoff. We’re friendly and expect the same in return. 3- Ambiance = Average 3/5. Very tightly packed tables in one Main dining area. Not the cleanest and needs a bit of updating. 4- Reservations = Excellent 5/5. Open table. 5- Value = Average 3/5. Manhatten has much better options.
Cute space, extremely disappointing experience. The restaurant itself is nice, but the service missed the mark from the start. Our server brought four small pieces of focaccia to the table without saying anything or asking if we wanted bread. At the end of the meal, we were charged $6 per person for it, which felt misleading. If bread isn’t complimentary, that should be clearly explained before it’s brought out. Later, when we asked to split the bill four ways, we were met with resistance. The server said it would “take an hour”. Having to push just to get the bill split felt unnecessary and unprofessional. I ordered a pizza described as being from a wood-burning oven, but it didn’t resemble one at all — no char, no texture, very disappointing. My friends enjoyed their pasta, they took the pappardelle. Overall, between the poor service and the underwhelming food, this was one of the worst dining experiences I’ve had in NYC, which is disappointing given the city’s standards. I wouldn’t advertise this as a Tuscan restaurant - literally no Tuscan dishes are served here.
