Wow, this dinner experience was one of a kind and am so glad to have had it as our last dinner of our Portugal trip. Chef Mateus was phenomenal and truly cared about his guest and his creations. Incredible food that helped give us a taste of traditional Portuguese food. Ambiance was unique, beautifully decorated, and welcoming. We were very blessed to have had the opportunity to be a part of Mateus’ project and passion. A MUST if you visit Lisbon!
It was my 2nd time dining with Mateus but the first time for my friend who was over visiting from US, and who has special dietary requirements. We enjoyed a very personal and private dinner, with gluten-free and lactose-free options and without any pork/beef for my friend. Traditional Portuguese dishes with a twist and adjusted to dietary needs. Mateus is such an amazing chef and host, very passionate about what he does, as is Alex, the owner of the hostel. We felt at home and very comfortable, eating and trying all these delicious dishes. It was truly an explosion of flavours. Super tasty wine as well. Great conversations with the hosts. Both Mateus and Alex are so lovely, very warm and welcoming. I will definitely be coming back many times and I can only recommend this experience to everyone living in Lisbon or visiting! It will surpass your expectations, and also give you great new encounters!
A real modern Portuguese tasting menu elaborates with skills and excellence by Mateus, a typing talented Brazilian chef. We were welcomed by the host Marcos and his twin brother Mateus to a comfortable dinning room where we met other guests. It was our second time here as we heard that there was more than one tasting menu so we had to come and try a second time! The first course was cheese (can’t go wrong with that), served with 2 different kind of butters, 2 types of bread, some sweet tomato relish and a ‘tremolos’ pâté… all home made! Then we had other starters such as a white gaspacho Alentejo style, a chorizo flambé with aguardiente (local brandy). Marcos then presented a bingo interlude that was super fun 🤩 We then had a cod dish served with a side salad and a second main course which was a duck rice course. All delicious. To finish off, we had a pear poached on a slow cook in different wines, served with home made ice cream. I cannot praise Mateus’ passion for food and to entertain his guests enough. The quality of the food is top grade and his cooking skills combined with an enthusiasm to host made this experience unique and delightful. Can I come back next week?

É a segunda vez que vivo a experiência de um Menu feito pelo Mateus e foi mais uma vez memorável. Todo o cuidado é proporcionado do início ao fim. Com todos os pratos sendo explicados e também nos fazendo sentir especiais mesmo possuindo alguma restrição. A história do Mateus é incrível, e ele respira a cozinha e a culinária 24h. Assim que você chega no ambiente e sente o cheiro da comida você já percebe o que está a sua espera. Os menus são pensados pra você vivenciar a comida portuguesa com maestria. E os vinhos super bem selecionados para combinar com os pratos servidos. A minha parte preferida é quando ele me surpreende me fazendo amar um prato que eu nunca imaginaria. Como foi com as Ameijoas e a sopa que leva feijão. E os pães feitos por ele com a manteiga caseira são um show a parte! E mesmo as azeitonas ele não deixa ser simples. Foram as melhores que já provei com um frescor sem igual! Definitivamente a junção da cozinha rústica portuguesa, com o toque de simplicidade brasileira e a elegância do servir e receber ao modo europeu.
Uma experiência para ficar na memória, com pessoas muito agradáveis, muita comida boa, bebidas com fartura, uma troca de informações culturais e o espaço ideal para fazer novas amizades e experimentar as delícias da cozinha tradicional portuguesa com um toque a mais de requinte e sabor , pratos muito bem elaborados, desde o couvert até a sobremesa, sendo explicado cada por menor desde os ingredientes até a forma de preparo presente em cada prato individualmente pelo jovem, carismático e talentoso chef Mateus, além de ter a atenção em desenvolver o menu de acordo com às necessidades dos clientes. Deixo também o apreço pela forma em que fomos recebidos por Marcos e Alex, sempre atentos à todos e muito receptivos. Super recomendo essa experiência para quem venha a Lisboa e que queria ter uma experiência íntima e especial nesta cidade!
Ótima experiência. Chef Mateus preparou vários pratos de cozinha típica portuguesa, explicando a origem de cada um deles. O ambiente (no Ambiente Hostel) é muito amigável, os funcionários são 5 estrelas. De certeza que volto mais vezes e vou recomendar aos meus amigo. 🤩

It was an amazing experience with a really delicious dinner! The explanations of each course and the specials were done beautifully, and the atmosphere was just perfect. They’re also very accommodating, you can ask for adjustments to any course if you have allergies or dietary needs. Thanks for such a wonderful evening!
Mateus and Marcos Alves deliver an outstanding dining and social experience. When you enter their dining room, the magic begins with a spectacular table layout that promises a wonderful evening. They attract an electric group of guests from all over the world, so you can exchange travel stories and tips during the meal. Over 5 courses of food, you experience a wonderful meal with lots of great flavors, sourced from local farms, explained by a talented chef, complimented by delicious local wines, all in the company of a great, fun group of travelers. Highly recommend this experience to everybody.
I was visiting my friend Maren in Lisbon. She invited me for a complete Portugese dinner prepared by Chef Mathiue. What to say....it was an incredible 3 hrs dinner. Since I can't eat gluten and lactase, Chef Mathieu prepared the whole dinner without those and I must say....it was so fabulous! I could enjoy Portugese meal without worrying 😊 plus the chef and his partner were both so kind, friendly and took care of all our needs the whole evening. It felt like a private dinner at a friend's house. They make you so comfortable and in-home experience. The place is so cozy as well. If you're visiting Lisbon and want to try complete Portugese dinner (even customized per your dietary need) without paying very high then you should definitely go there. You just need to call at least a day ahead to them and they will prepare everything for you plus lovely Portugese wine is in the house with your meal 😉

Uma experiência para ficar na memória, com pessoas muito agradáveis, muita comida boa, bebidas com fartura, uma troca de informações culturais e o espaço ideal para fazer novas amizades e experimentar as delícias da cozinha tradicional portuguesa com um toque a mais de requinte e sabor , pratos muito bem elaborados, desde o couvert até a sobremesa, sendo explicado cada por menor desde os ingredientes até a forma de preparo presente em cada prato individualmente pelo jovem, carismático e talentoso chef Mateus, além de ter a atenção em desenvolver o menu de acordo com às necessidades dos clientes. Deixo também o apreço pela forma em que fomos recebidos por Marcos e Alex, sempre atentos à todos e muito receptivos. Super recomendo essa experiência para quem venha a Lisboa e que queria ter uma experiência íntima e especial nesta cidade!
