Genuinely amazing food. I'm literally still here at the table having just finished eating the food while writing this review. I ordered a mountain man burger with coleslaw and a peach blackberry tea and it was all so good. I also tried a bite of my mom's tuna wrap and my brother's chorizo breakfast burrito and both were so good even though I don't even like chorizo. One thing I hate is when there's too much oil used to cooked the food but here they used the perfect amount of oil and the coleslaw had just enough dressing, not too much of it. The tea I ordered wasn't overbearingly sweet but it had just enough sweetness that it didn't taste like nothing either. This was genuinely amazing food. Our family didn't get to explore as much of death valley as we wanted to, so we are definitely going to come back sometime in the future and eat here for breakfast. And I definitely want to try the mimosa next time. And also our server was great and friendly and I really liked her vibes. Overall great place, we did get lost looking for it but it's definitely worth it.

Stopped in for breakfast during a trip to Lone Pine and the Alabama Hills. Great little breakfast spot. It was busy and we were there in November when everything else around town was very quite. This place was non-stop busy with nearly every seat in the place filled for breakfast. Typical breakfast fare and everything we had was great.

Glad we stopped here for a late breakfast! The cozy, welcoming vibe was perfectly complemented by the delicious, reasonably priced and mostly house-made food (my salsa was FRESH pico de gallo). If you have room - or want something sweet to go - there's a bakery case full of tasty temptations!

Pricy but worth it. Nice sized breakfast that doesn't taste like cardboard. They also have delicious pastries and baked goods.

This is one of those places you’re grateful for every single time you pass through Lone Pine. What many people don’t realize is that they have two locations, just about a 2-minute walk from each other. The smaller café runs from 5am–3pm and is perfect for early mornings. Expect comforting hot breakfasts, flavored lattes, and some of the best pastries and freshly baked breads in town—exactly what you want before a long drive or a day on the trail. The larger property opens at 3pm and stays open until around 11pm, and on weekends often stays open until 2am. It has a full bar, and it’s pretty much the only place in Lone Pine open past 8pm, which means this is where all the fun happens. It’s lively, social, and a natural gathering spot in the evenings. The property itself is gorgeous, and they also have an event space, making it great for group gatherings and celebrations. Location-wise, it couldn’t be better—just one block from the famous Alabama Hills Geological Formations and of course, just below Mount Whitney Portal, making it an ideal stop before or after outdoor adventures. We ordered the breakfast burrito, short stack, bacon and eggs with fruit and toast, the Gene Autry omelette, and biscuits and gravy—every dish was hearty, well-prepared, and deeply satisfying. Portions were generous and everything felt thoughtfully made. Whether you’re passing through, hiking Mt. Whitney, road-tripping through the Eastern Sierra, or spending a few nights in Lone Pine, Alabama Hills Cafe is an absolute must—morning or night. Highly recommend.

Charming Café, Wonderful eats, Welcoming and inviting staff smack dab in the middle of a breathtaking view of Mt. Whitney. Jess was our Waitress and she made us feel like a local - no better feeling. If you are in the area heading through - don't rob yourself the pleasure of this amazing establishment

Ive visited lone pine for years. Typically id eat breakfast at one of the other diners located directly on 395. My experince there has always been "eh" and the employees looked and acted like they didnt want to be there. On the contrary...the food at Alabama Hills was very good! The attitude of the staff was friendly and energetic. A nice surprise!

Best breakfast in Lone Pine. I had the tasty hamburger patty and egg breakfast while my wife had the excellent French toast. Maybe, it's my imagination, but the beef seems better in Lone Pine. Fresh from a local ranch, maybe? I started out with the hot cocoa which I watched being made with real milk and chocolate syrup. A Plus: I am glad to see that they are holding the line with no dogs. I don't want to eat with your dog. I am tired of people lying that their dog is a 'service dog' when the dog is clearly not a 'service dog'. I see complaints in the reviews, but I applaud the owner on this policy! A Minus: A 'biscuit' is included with breakfast, but 'biscuit and gravy' is $2.95 extra This wasn't clarified when the waitress offered the option. I would have gone the 'with gravy' anyway (it's very good gravy), but the extra charge should be mentioned when ordering. (Yes, the extra charge is shown on the menu, but it should also be mentioned when offered by the waitress.)

Open early on a Tuesday morning when no one else was AND served up a warm, delicious ham, egg and cheese breakfast sandwich. The croissant was fluffy but not flaky which was best for driving. Hot tasty coffee and we were good to go. See you next time!

Very nice place! 😍 But it seems like it’s always packed, so you might have to wait a bit to get a spot. But trust me — it’s worth it! Haha! And let me just say… TRY THEIR PIES!!! 🥧 Absolutely amazing — yummy, tasty, delicious! No words to describe how good they are! We had breakfast there, and of course, we couldn’t leave without grabbing a pie to take home. We enjoyed it later with coffee and a beautiful view. Highly recommend! ☕🍰

We stopped in for lunch on our way to mammoth mountain. We had eggs Benedict and breakfast BLT. We shared a small cherry pie and the crispy crust was amazing! Food was delicious and service was quick. We sat on the front patio.

We stopped in for lunch on our way to Big Pine. I had the hamburger I forget exactly which one but it had avocado bacon and cheese on it and I have quartered pn sourdough bread. I got a side of onion rings. Everything tasted good. I've been here before and my favorite thing to order is breakfast here but we came too late. When I do get here in time for breakfast I always order the pancakes although I've had their omelets and breakfast burritos before, and those are amazing as well!

First time here and it was super delicious. It’s a small restaurant but with huge flavor. We had to wait about 20 minutes for a table but it was definitely worth it. The service was phenomenal. They all worked as a team to serve us and the food quality was good. You can tell they make everything fresh. Even the fruit tasted fresh. My family loved it here. And definitely making this a stop every time we drive through here.

Partner and I had the French Toast Combo and the Sierra Scramble, respectively. The portions were okay, but not quite fitting the hefty price. We each had coffee, which was surprisingly good. Service was great.

13 December 2025 a member of the PiHead group of Texas visited, Alabama Hills Cafe and Bakery, Lone Pine, CA. This group visits restaurants searching for perfection in their pie menu. Today we sampled the Apple-Blueberry mini pie, (no full-size pies were available). The pie filling was above excellent the crust, however, was more like cobbler than pie. Overall it was tasty, but a mini pie at $13 is way over priced. We asked for four forks instead of four pies. We should mention that the food and service were excellent, but again, the food was overpriced. We recommend you stop by and give this Cafe a try.

Was given a very dry cinnamon loaf today. After tossing most of it and returning to pick cup my take out order, I noticed they had a tray with “one day old” $2 cinnamon slices in there. My receipt showed $7 charge. When I inquired about it, letting her know it had been very dry unlike the last time I ordered it, I was told she took it out of the glass case not that tray. Untrue. There had not been ANY in there. We had all already acknowledged that when I ordered it and she was told to “go in the back” to get one for me. I don’t care about $5. I care about honesty and customer service. Sadly we won’t be returning. They have some very tasty food there, but integrity means more to us.

Stopped by this café and found it packed. The staff seemed overwhelmed, and it took a while to get our takeout order placed. The waitress eventually helped us and was polite, but the overall vibe felt disorganized. There was a $1 upcharge per entrée for takeout and a 4% card processing fee, which felt a bit excessive with the already high prices ($19 for a club sandwich & fries). The food was okay, decent but nothing special. Everyone was nice enough, but the experience lacked smooth service and left us underwhelmed. Hopefully, it was just an unusually hectic day for them.

I don’t understand the good reviews. This place is still running because there isn’t anything else in the area but everything from customer service to food and general set up are pretty mediocre. The customer service defies logic. I waited for the woman at counter to become available to talk to me, which she did, only to tell me that - despite her being right in front of me and already logged into her machine and available to take payments - she couldn’t take my order and I could t pay her and I had to wait for someone else. So I moved out of line and let the person behind me pay because …. I still don’t understand why. Food was bland, sloppy and unseasoned (I had a veggie wrap). The bacon, eggs and potatoes - equally unseasoned. The whole experience was so disappointing.

Rude service. Don't feel welcomed. It was crowded so I usually try to be understanding because I also work in the service industry. Being busy doesn't excuse rude behavior. We walked out.

Restaurants in Lone Pine and the people of Lone Pine are some of the loveliest I have ever known. But this is one restaurant I will always avoid. The server was extremely rude, not just to us but to her coworker. And when we nicely asked her to be polite, she asked us to leave and we were happy to. Before leaving we spoke to the manager who could not care less. They are probably related if I had to guess. Avoid this place and take your business to other lovely spots in lone pine.

Sure didn’t feel right…. Drive in town like we do often. Went in Sunday at 7:30am for breakfast. Was treated with disrespect while the hostess lady repeatedly told us to stand in line by the bathroom behind some other couple where there was literally no room to stand. We just wanted to order takeout. She did a bunch of other stuff in front of us completely ignoring us, and then She had to write the pastries on the case glass before she could even take a takeout order from either one of us standing there 5-10 minutes and finally said oh my gosh this is insane. Obviously the restaurant doesn’t need customers. Was so flabbergasted by the disrespect because by the time she told us twice to stand over by this other couple standing which we thought was waiting for the bathroom, she could’ve taken our order. Wasn’t very nice saying that there were no service outside to sit either, which was why we were taking it to go. I was just so surprised and don’t plan to go back. I get it people have bad days. I just feel like the service has gone downhill. We’ve been going there for years as a family. Maybe the people are overworked and underpaid, at least that’s how it seemed. She just looked miserable …who knows but I guess it’s just not working anymore. She could have said hey really sorry for the wait…. This is why… but basically expected us to stand there and ignore us. It was just weird!

TERRIBLE SERVICE!!! DO NOT ORDER A BURGER HERE! I usually don’t write such negative reviews, but I simply can’t stay silent about this experience. My husband ordered a medium burger — what we received was a plate with potatoes, two fried eggs, and a paper-thin patty. They also placed a slice of bread on the side. We honestly couldn’t believe this was supposed to be a burger, so we asked the waitress — and she confirmed that it was. Does anyone in this place even understand what a burger is supposed to look like? No one offered to replace the dish or explain anything, even though we made it clear that this was not what we expected when we ordered a burger. Also, when we first arrived, we were told they don’t serve customers outside and only offer service for indoor seating. We were really disappointed, especially because it was loud and dirty inside. Our table had crumbs all over it, and there was a piece of cheese or some other yellow food on the seat that I had to clean off myself before sitting down. But here’s the worst part — about 20 minutes into our meal, we saw people eating outside. Why were they allowed to sit outside, and we weren’t? This is absolutely unacceptable. This place deserves zero stars, but unfortunately, Google won’t let me give anything less than one. I will never come back.
