Big things comes in small packages. And let me tell you this place gots the goods, first time eating here was the right choice I don't know how I never knew about it, and now I'm glad I know really good food and menu grate place to eat to pick up or dine in.
This is my favorite Mexican food place in Long Beach. It's a small place with friendly people and an open kitchen. My go-to is the chile relleno burrito with green sauce. Absolutely perfect.
$1.00 Tacos Tues/Fri. Only $1.25 all other times. $2 Dos Equis & Tecate all week. super tasty food!! The owner and staff are all very friendly. I recently found myself frequenting this place.
I love love this place. Friendly staff and great food. Best breakfast burritos in town! Guacamole is fire and their Diablo spread is to die for. Btw I love the run down look of the place.
I live in the part of long beach where there is nothing but Mexican and Thai food restaurants so I've tried taco Tuesday at a different restaurant every week. My blackened fish taco, and blackened shrimp taco were the BEST. Well made, don't fall apart after 1st bite, excellent sauce, and not using all that other fillers like cabbage and cream fresh. They also have a well stocked sauce table, and outdoor dining.
I've been eating here through ownership and name changes for years and the place has had a few valleys. Right now however this is my favorite place to grab some great tacos in Long Beach! Ate here today on Friday and had some of the best $1 tacos ever. Plus I had $2 bottle Dos Equis beers! 5 tacos and 3 beers later I'm a happy man! Hope the quality to value stays as high as it is because I'll be customer for life.
This was some good cooking! Looks small from outside but the taste is huge! I love this place! They were a lil rude to me while placing my order as if trying to figure out if i actually have money or not... the food makes you forget....tender parts were tender, saltly parts were perfect, and it was a perfect burrito! The salsa on the other hand needed help... An unfortunate mix
Corner dive with good eats and excellent service
Grew up in LA county but just came back after 50 years. Dropped in Cantarito by chance & the tacos taste the way they are supposed to! I had forgotten until that first bite. Nice staff, too.
Cantarito, how do I love thee, let me count the ways. For 5 years, this has been my favorite Mexican restaurant. Everything made in this little tiny building is delicious. The servers are always friendly and the orders are always 100% correct. I always get the fish burrito with a bunch of substitutions when I'm eating healthy and they always make it perfect. One time they messed up one tiny thing which was fine (no complaints, it was still great) and the next time we came in they remembered without me ever telling them, and gave us free chips to make up for it. Best service ever. When I'm not dieting, the nachos are out of this world. I am moving soon and it feels like there will be an empty spot in my heart with no cantarito to fill it. I'm going to eat there as much as possible before I do. Thanks for the years, cantarito!!
It is my favorite spot to eat in long beach. Hole in the wall Mexican joint with the BEST potatoe tacos, and I'm talking the $2 ones, worth it. They also have a green sauce I am obsessed with. I eat here once a week. The staff is so friendly and by this point know my order when I walk in. Haha, please check it out! Support local eateries.
I wanted an authentic Mexican breakfast and saw this cantina. It's small, with little space to hang out, but just enough to eat your breakfast and enjoy it.
The asada is so good a flavorful! Burritos are good and comes with cheese. Tacos are awesome and big. They never disappoint.
It's the neighborhood mexican spot. Straightforward and tasty offerings, great staff, and just enough space to stay and sit down every once in a while. The only shortcoming is their 9 pm weekday closing time, but I still love them to a fault. Please eat here. :D
They have poppers! And they are absolutely wonderful. Perfectly cooked with bacon wrapping it up nice and crispie. If you know anything about Jalapeño peppers then you know sometime you get mild like Anaheim chili's, or high heat as the Serrano. Mine were just right, not too hot so I could taste it. Street tacos for a buck each were also just right. 4 salsas and several other crudités
It's tiny but the food here is dope. Definitely my favourite place. The lengua is good, you'll wanna forget about getting Carne asada. They toast the tortilla on the burrito and more often then not it's done juuuuuust right.
Friendly service and they are pretty quick with preparation. Foods are good sized portions and the nachos are excellent. I've tried a lot of their dishes and they never disappoint.
This is one of those places I always drive by when I’m in Long Beach but have never eaten at. We were looking for a place to have lunch and thought why not give it a try. Upon entering, we were greeted really warmly by the woman at the front counter. She was very kind to my friend and I, sporting a big smile on her face and made us feel at home. She recommended me the Quesabirria plate which comes with three quesabirrias of good size, and a side of consomé. It was pretty damn good. Quesabirrias are not something I get to eat very often but I was happy to have tried them here. I am already looking forward to coming back and trying something else on the menu as some of the other items looked delicious. Even though the interior is not the biggest place, it still feels nice and homey. One thing I also enjoyed was the small basket of tortilla chips they gave us topped with some beans and two salsas to put in our food. A green and orange one.
I e been coming here for years. The owner and staff are extremely friendly. The food is served fast and has a salsa bar. You can get a Mexican come or a beer from the cooler. There is open tables in the back if you prefer to dine in.
Cantarito Cocina Mexicana is like a culinary hug from your favorite abuelita, with dishes that will make your taste buds do the salsa. They just renovate and the place is amazing, the ambience takes you to your favorite destination in Mexico. And let's not forget about the heart and soul of this place - the owner Jorge. Not only does he whip up some of the best ceviche and birria quesadilla tacos in town, but he's also the kind of guy you'd want to share a cold beer with. The beer is always cold, the conversation is always great, and the food is always on point. This spot is a true gem in the LBC - ¡Salud to Jorge and Cantarito!
Food is good. We ordered a camarones costa azul, Carne asada nachos, and a large Jamaica. We were also given a complimentary basket filled with handmade tortilla chips and chunky salsa. It’s a small mom and pop shop located in the heart of Long Beach.
Wow, let me start with the fries. They’re amazing great flavor great seasoning right temperature as well. The burger it’s great. The flavor is juicy. The cheese is good. The customer service is awesome. I enjoyed ordering my order with the great staff and service. Restaurant clean 10/10 Customer service 10/10 Food 8/10 Try the breakfast burritos The burgers Tacos fire 🔥
These place is my go to for authentic Mexican food. If I'm having a bad day this place always cheers me up. Feels like a families home.
Best Menudo in the area bar-none! Couple that with personable service and you've got a winning combination that makes you feel right at home.
Amazing Mexican food is very authentic as it should be. Friendly staff. I recommend this place 👌 My only constructive criticism is that the parking has been sort of converted unto an outdoor dining patio with tables and umbrellas, very nice actually, but the large trash bins are noticeable. I would recommend adding several large foliage trees on planters to cover the ugly trash bin area. Other than that, nice place overall. Thank you for the friendly service Señor. LGBTQ Friendly 🏳️🌈 Gracias 🇲🇽
This place is amazing, excellent customer service, very clean and the most important the food, so tasty. I will come to this place again. Highly recommended
They have specials every day of the week,Wednesday burritos are $8.99 I got a wet Carne Asada burrito with no rice cheese and a yolk egg in side super delicious 😋
The burritos are crazy. This place delivers serious flavour. Taco truck on every corner but this place stands out.

Best birria tacos I've ever had
This is a tiny place with delicious food. Tasted like my grandma's cooking. We ordered cheese enchaladas, crunchy tacos and asada sopes. So good! They serve their chips with beans on top! Yummy!
My favorite Mexican food in Long Beach. The food is tasty and the service is great. We’ve had the machaca and chorizo breakfast burritos- both really good! The guacamole also tastes fresh and the salsas are flavorful. The place itself is really small but it’s clean and quaint. Will continue to go back!
Best tasting shredded beef tacos I’ve ever had! This was my first time but I’ll be back and often.

I’m a local and I have never been here, until this morning. Me and my girlfriend got a burrito each, and it was great. Very kind, and hospitable people working there.

Amazing food, nice atmosphere, and good service. They do need to replace the porcelain and tile in the Men's Restroom, and install a more efficient exhaust fan.
This is my first time here & this place is the perfect little SoCal taco shop. Nearly everyone coming in have their boards & theres nothing but chill vibes with a good atmosphere. This is my new weekly hang out to eat spot
Great for walk up takeout/phone orders. Favorites: chili relleno burrito & hard shelled potato tacos. Chicken nachos & tacos also 👍
If you want some quick Mexican food, this is the place to go. The food is pretty decent and the small restaurant makes it pretty cozy. The place isn't anything too crazy but a good place to go from time to time. The only thing that is a problem is parking.
This place was our to go place for burritos. They usually had amazing and delicious burritos and enchiladas and we would go there often. However, the last couple of times we have not had as good of an experience. The burrito was super dry and it was basically just rice and old asada, barely any beans or anything else. We usually order wet burritos and there was not enough sauce on top either. The asada fries were stale, they were nice enough to replace them.
Food was really good and tasty, but by the end of my meal, I found a giant fly in my food! The place had many of them flying around anyways. If the fly problems are fixed, this would be a five star place!

Used to go here everyday. Had good food, great salsa, and even better prices. Got sick from a bad batch of salsa and they had to put in a cart to try to prevent future cross contamination, and right around that time they must have changed ownership, because there was a marked decrease in quality along with a noticeable hike in price. I took a break and thought things might improve, but after returning to give them another shot, I have seen no change. If courtesy were everything they would surely recieve 5 stars, but unfortunately I need more than that when factoring my mealtime choices. Might give them another shot sometime in the future, but it won't be anytime soon.
Ridiculous they charge extra dollar for that much sauce what a rip off it's good but come on don't rip off you're customers

Ordered online. Went to pick up the order but it wasn't ready. After a sincere apology for having no record of it (their error), I watched the cook frantically prepare my meal with no gloves on. The place smelled of cheap cleansing products and the salsa bar looked like a bacteria trap (watched a guy dip a chip directly into the salsa bowl). Hard shell tacos and fries were decent. They overcharged my credit card (main reason for this review).

1. None of the salsas tasted good 2. Rice was dry 3. No salt in any of the dishes we tried 4. Asada was too chewy and lacked any kind of flavors 5. All tacos tasted the same. Tasteless. Overall, worst "Mexican" food I've ever had.
Carne asada fries tasted like they had been sitting out for at least a day. The tacos and burritos were flavorless and featured old/hard tortillas. Will not be ordering from here again.
Dont recommend you dont get what you pay for 7$ for a small burrito and to bland. You really want a carrne asada burrito go to Louse 6th st and Atlantic in LBC.Visited again 1/21/2024 Ordered a chicken burrito and 2 Sopes and a taco. The meat was very old.My doughter even said that my burritos I make at home are way better they didn't even care about having condiments for your food......Guys come on stop being lazy and serve us fresh food not old.Any body can make a better burrito than El Cantarito. Not going to recommend this place to anybody find out for yourself.
I ordered the Chicken nachos and this dish was poorly put together and had no seasoning on it at all. The worst nachos I ever had very disappointing. I also order a asada burrito as no favor, no seasonings on the meat. The meat was cheap and gummy with fat. I will never order again from this place
Not good. The Enchiladas Plate was gross. The enhciladas were dry and the sauce was weird and sour, not like usual enchilada sauce. I've never had enchiladas with no melted cheese on top. The rice was dry and overcooked. The beans tasted canned and lacked flavor. The chicken tacos were so dissappointing. I would not recommend this place in the slightest.
