Avis sur Bob's Well Bread Bakery Los Alamos
We found a hidden gem on our way from Santa Barbara to SF, stopping to charge our car. It felt like we'd stepped into a Parisian bakery! The quality of their bread and sandwiches competes anything you'd find in Paris. We enjoyed coffee, sandwiches, rosemary olive bread, a baguette, and croissants – all absolutely delicious. Even the simple salad alongside the sandwich was perfectly fresh with a light dressing of lemon juice and olive oil! We loved it
We arrived a little before they were closing but enjoyed a couple of great sandwiches. We sat outside on their tables under their trees and had a very nice lunch. Will be back to try their breakfast next time.
The best English muffin sandwich ever. And the chai latte was delicious
Really nice selection of breakfast items...everything is freshly baked and delicious.
Bob's is the best. The premade sandwiches are all perfect. Love the scones and bagels, wish there was one closer to Santa Barbara
Everyone here is super friendly, and I love the repurposed gas station! The coffee, the croissants so good ...worth a detour if you are heading North of LA Ample parking and check the hours to be sure you can stop in
One of my favorite Reuben sandwiches ever and certainly the only one that's bread-forward rather than meat-forward. And yet, delicious! Someone at a winery 100 miles away recommended we stop at this bakery. There's a line. You should wait. The challah, recommended, was excellent. The woman working the register had boundless energy. Worth a detour!
Although the three of us had to get our lunches to go because we were on our way to Arroyo Grande, the kids and dog could play behind the deck outside. Pure necessity on a road trip. Food entirely worth waiting for. Croissants, avocado toast, poached egg, egg in a jar, cookies, and more. Absolutely delightful! Thanks to the owners & staff for making such a cute atmosphere, tastefully decorated, and running a smooth operation where staff meld into one fine-tuned machine. EVERYONE was working together and included bright smiles.
I had an avocado toast tartine on bread baked in the store. Their breads are phenomenal. Wonderful smell of bread baking. Great food. Fun place. Highly recommended. Took a loaf of their Pain au Levain "Our signature Country Loaf" home. Photo shows their Brand baked into the bread crust. Wonderful.
Get there early, the freshly baked bread, pastries and croissants sell fast. Theniutdoor seating with fresh baked goods and a hot coffee is perfection. PRO TIP-while you're there order picnic sandwiches and salads to enjoy later on your travels.
This is truly a hidden gem of a place. I’d like to recommend the Kouign-Amman and Egg in a frame #2, in that order to boot. Flaky mildly sweet pastry to start with and then to finish it off with dense but very flavorful gravy with a thick slice of toast and homemade bacon bits (it’s way bigger than your average bacon bits however). I also recommend a second glass of coffee. I’m pretty glad to have come across this place only because I was in the area too early to try other restaurants, but this was what my fatigued self needed. All in all, I’d highly recommend if you were passing by Los Alamos to begin with and maybe you should think about visiting this gem yourselves.
We went for coffee and breakfast sandwiches and left with a great memory of quality food and beverages. A must stop if you're in the area.
Get there early, when I went they had a small selection remaining. Although, what I got was amazing so I didn’t really mind. The meat wasn’t your typical lunch meat, it was clearly quality meat. The bread has a great crunch to it. Overall it was a great lunch for a decent price. Will definitely be back.
Wow! Bob's Well Bread Bakery did not disappoint. Rave reviews that I read beforehand are well deserved. Had to wait in line midday on a Monday, but well worth it. Had an open faced sandwich on chewy crusty bread and it was as delicious as it looks. Limited hours still due to Covid, and Los Alamos is a bit off the beaten path, but lunch at Bob's and a look through a few antique stores made for a perfect afternoon!
Breakfast was delicious. Pleasant table under the oak tree. The egg in a jar is savory and rich. Also the oatmeal cookie is chewy and satisfying. Just the way I like it.
I’ve visited all bakeries all over the world, and the food here stands out as the best by far. If they keep this up, they might just become the defining bakery of the Anthropocene.
My family can’t get enough of Bob’s. Every time I am in the area, I have to make at least one stop here, the bread and pastries are phenomenal and the breakfast is amazing. It’s seriously addicting. SO GOOD!
We stopped on our way down to Ventura from SLO and am so glad we did. We had the pastrami sandwich and the salad Nicoise. Both were perfect. The highlight of the meal was the iced coconut milk mocha that I ordered. It was sheer heaven in a glass! The best coffee drink I have ever had! I'm looking forward to our next trip south.
Cute shop! On a roadtrip driving through town. We stopped into Bob's for a latte. Entranced by the loaves of bread as we were parking. We picked up the sourdough round & everything bagel. Yummy! Can't wait to return to try the other offerings.
Holy cow! I am not normally a bread eater, but I made an exception this morning, and boy am I glad I did! The ambiance is low key, comfy. We got there at 7:30 before it got crazy. The coffee is from Stumptown and my soy latte was great. I had the egg In hole with tomato on their signature bread, and my friend had the breakfast sandwich on the English muffin. We were so happy! Quality food, space and ingredients. I can't wait to come back!
I don't think I've ever seen such attention to detail at a bakery. Salad presentation was beautiful, every ingredient looked specially sourced, not Sysco food. The yolk on the egg was creamy and mango-colored. Pastries were bursting with flavor. Even the bagel was unique and came with what at least tasted like homemade cream cheese. Coffee reportedly on point. Lady at the register was super efficient, asked all the pertinent questions for every item. Cool vibe. I don't hand out glowing reviews easily but they deserve it.
Bob’s Well Bread is the best. We have been coming here for easily 4 years. We have watched it grow, justifiably, into the Los Alamos staple that it is. Bob’s is a never miss when we stay in the wine country, or at the Alamo motel, or passing through as we head north or south on the 101. His attention to detail with his pastries, breakfast or lunch fare is wonderful. You are always treated with a professional and well trained staff. The English muffin toasted with strawberry mint jam and butter, the Egg in a frame #2 (the lardons are delicious) served on Pain de Mie with bacon béchamel sauce is addictive. The vinegar based mushroom toast is a must. I could go on and on as we have gone down the menu over the years. Make sure you grab his Levain Sourdough and a Baguette to take home. Thanks Bob’s Well bread for always being there.
We were visiting Los alamos for the day, I got the eggs on a fence #1 and an iced coffee. The bread was sooo good!! Was hard to choose the menu was extensive and I’ll definitely try something different next time. Cute patio to sit on, busy spot though so be prepared for a little line if you go on the weekend.
We luckily stumbled upon this place during our road trip up the coast. The food was so good that on our way home we stopped at the Ballard location. We all wanted to try the items we had missed the first time around. And it did not disappoint the second time. Everything was great. A new favorite. Baguette, Prosciutto and Egg Sandwich pictured below. This is the winner.
Amazing food and great atmosphere. My wife had the best French toast and I had a super tasty sandwich. Highly recommend!
We go here multiple times on vacation in Cali, so if you stop by it will be an instant favorite. I've never been disappointed by a meal, pastry, or service. My favorites are the Egg in a Frame #2 and, as of today, the Meatloaf sandwich. The morning buns are perfectly sweet, flaky, buttery and rich in flavor. Menu items are consistently delicious and fair prices for a cafe serving fresh and quality meals. Service is polite and professional.
Atmosphere was great, service was very friendly. You can tell how fresh everything is. Even though the line was long it moved very fast. I did wish they had a savory meatless croissant option, but there were caprice subs and pastries. I ended up getting a sesame bagle with cream cheese that was So Good. I will definitely be returning next time I drive through town.
Wow. The Avocado toast was bursting with flavor on their wonderful bread. Also bought the Rosemary bread which is a real treat. It's a little out of the ways but if you're in the area or happen to be driving by, worth a stop to grab a bite to eat or their pastries. It's just off the 101 too so reasonably convenient.
This place serves fantastic food. I had the daily special, the Philly cheese steak. The meat was tender and had good flavor. The fondue was just the right amount of cheese. The side salad was perfectly lightly dressed and had fresh greens. The bread of course was good too, not too chewy or tough.
Bob’s Well Bread always hits the spot! Delicious eggs and sweet pastries. They are even dog friendly. I brought my puppy with me and all the servers were beyond nice to her!
We Came in hungry and left very happy. We got a breakfast sandwich, huevos rancheros, almond croissant, and a Snickerdoodle cookie. If there’s a line, I recommend getting the pastry to hold you over while they make your food. We waited in a long line, but the food came out quickly. Even though they were extremely busy most of the times we went in there, the staff was very helpful and did not rush us in anyway. Huevos rancheros were our favorite item. And the almond croissant is not a must—it’s a necessity!
This bakery is a must stop for breakfast lovers! The food and bakery products are very good and well made. Pleasant outdoor seating, and just very good food and at a pretty good price for the quality. Its a little expensive but not to bad for a weekend out or get away meal. Pleasant staff, would God back. We went twice!
Not likely you'll ever just happen to drive through town on your way to someplace because you are on 101. But this place should make you take that exit and stop to enjoy a fantastic meal. The star of the show here is bread. Perfect caramelized crusts and textured interiors. We got there early for the breakfast and to sample the croissants and pastries. All goodness. And great coffee too. Take the exit, you won't be disappointed.
An absolute gem of a bakery in a small town. Phenomenal breakfast spot in Los Alamos. Every single food item we got was made from high quality ingredients and cooked to perfection. You cannot go wrong choosing between ordering a biscuit or a croissant, trust me, they’re both amazing. The Salmon Lox spread was great from its presentation to the flavors of each ingredient. Really enjoyed their everything bagel. The all star of the morning was definitely the Egg in a Frame #2. The toasted, but fluffy bread was something I’ve never eaten before. It’s called Pain de Mie and it was a delightful piece of toast. The eggs and bacon absolutely hit the savory spot for me. Flavor was exploding from each bacon bit. Just a wonderful breakfast experience at this spot. Highly recommend getting there no later than 8:30am because it will get busy fast. Will be back!
Wow! I had no idea what to expect when we pulled up. So glad we stopped in! The food was absolutely fantastic (the menu has a great variety and something for everyone). There was plenty of seating inside and out. Plenty of parking out front. Only drawback is that it might be a bit tight for wheel chairs on the inside.
Love this place for brunch. Had the breakfast sandwich and a sticky bun which were both good. I do think the sticky buns are a bit dry, but it was still very tasty. All things considered together, I really like this place and will be coming back as often as I can. The food is very nice and the staff is very friendly. I'd say the only real demerit on this place is that it gets so busy that the line to order fills up most of the inside of the cafe and makes it uncomfortably crowded if you're trying to eat inside.
We first saw this place when featured by Westways, AAA magazine. Went to see it yesterday and had the pistachio and butter croissants, also the pretzel. All are wow!!! We came back for more today but the pistachio croissants are all gone. We bought the chocolate almond croissant. Oh so good too! Pistachio croissants will still be my favorite.
We enjoyed our little stop over while charging the car. Bought croissant and sourdough loaf of bread. Cashier and this other Individual (perhaps owner or owner like great attitude) serve people with smile. Clean restroom. Plenty of sitting options. Another customer spoke highly of all breads they make. I recommend this place.
Bob’s Well Bread is one of those rare places that manages to feel both like a small-town bakery and a world-class destination at the same time. The pastries are on another level entirely. The pistachio croissant is already a masterpiece, but when you add chocolate to it, it becomes something unforgettable. The savory side is just as strong, the ham and cheese croissant is perfectly balanced, flaky, and indulgent without being heavy. Seasonal fruit pastries showcase what’s fresh and local, and every loaf of bread is treated like an art form. Organic flour, sea salt, filtered water, extended fermentation, and a radiant stone hearth deck oven, this is the stuff serious bakers obsess over, and you can taste the difference in every bite. Breakfast and lunch both deliver, whether you want to sit in and enjoy the warm atmosphere or take something on the road. Signing up for their newsletter is smart if you want the inside scoop on special events, like their wine tastings, which pair naturally with their food. And if you’re heading out for your own wine country picnic, picking up a bag of their bread and pastries is the right move. The whole experience is infused with care, precision, and what really does feel like love. If you’re lucky, you might run into Bob himself, whose attention to detail is the quiet engine behind everything that makes this bakery so good. Bob’s Well Bread is absolutely a must-stop before or after wine tasting, but honestly, it’s worth planning a trip just for this place.
Great place to stop for a bite to eat while headed north. Wanted to try this place a year ago but it was closed. So glad I finally got a chance to try it. The food here is really well done. Ingredients are fresh and the breas/pastries were top notch. Lots of outdoor seating and great staff.
Nice place to pick up a sandwich - their bread is especially tasty. Order at counter and they deliver to your table. On the expensive side for the size of some baguette sandwiches. The avocado toast was very generous in size and delicious.
Those lines.... oh those long lines! I wish there was a different type of transaction to get these lines moving. For example, if I wanted an iced coffee and baguette, there should be a faster service line for that. By the time we ordered our brunch and sat down, I was ready for a nap. We couldn't wait to get off on this exit and see what the buzz was about. Bob's bakery is located in this beautiful Los Alamos town. They have plenty of outdoor seating and views all around us. I ordered corned beef on rye and potato salad, Egg-in-a-Frame #2 (A local farm egg, over easy, in a grilled slice of Pain de Mie with bacon béchamel sauce & bacon lardons), Turkey sandwich, with roasted Turkey, cheese, dijon mustard and butter lettuce. I also picked up a baguette for the road trip ahead. If you want the farm to table experience and want to taste some really good delectable food, I would recommend this place. And grab some pastries to go!
Got there an hour before closing, a lot of things has run out. We got iced Americano which was pretty watery. And the last available chocolate croissant, that was pretty good. We enjoyed the back area with the trees and benches while waiting to charge our car across the street. It's also a very dog friendly area.
This is where you should stop for excellent baked goods and casual meals. I had the Croque Monsieur sandwich which came with a small side salad. It was pretty tasty, except I just wanted a little more Bechamel sauce so it was just a little more moist and creamy on the inside. Still, it was delicious, and I would get it again if the mood struck me. I also tried a pain au chocolat. I had read several rave reviews about their chocolate croissants. It didn't disappoint! At $4.50 each I thought it was a little overpriced, however it is almost twice as big as a typical chocolate croissant. I ate half of it after lunch and the other half later when I got home. The croissants are like the proper ones you get in France that are crisp and so flaky they make the appropriate and expected mess when you bite into it. It's all about the baking technique and right ingredients. I bought some chocolate croissants and bagels to-go to enjoy with my family the next morning. Of course being a day old they weren't quite the same, but they were still very delicious. To refresh the chocolate croissant I bake them for just five minutes in a preheated 350° oven. That got them close to being back to freshly made, but just a little more toasted. The bagels were pretty good, but didn't match the very best bagels I've had in NY. They (all 4 of the bagels I bought) weren't evenly rolled, so one section was very narrow and needed more "inner" bread for spreading and chewing. Overall, the quality and care was definitely apparent in everything I tried, and I would definitely recommend this bakery and go back myself.
Wonderful food and outdoor seating. I look forward to stopping for bread and breakfast on my way to the bay area. What I don’t like is being yelled at by the manager because I asked for milk for my coffee. VERY UNPLEASANT GUY. Take home lesson: 1. bring your milk if you don’t want to charged extra or maybe you like coffeemate ARTIFICIAL creamer. 2. The customer is an UNPLEASANT inconvenience.
Passing through and a homemade bagel sounded good. Since this place had good reviews, i stopped by. Upon arriving there were several customers in line. The server had asked if anyone was picking up. People in line both in front of me and behind me said yes and they got their order. Which is fine. But he kept doing it and not taking the orders of those in line. Which is not great customer service. I finally got to order and got my everything bagel and cream cheese. The seasonings were a little different (no garlic, onion flakes, nor salt) with pumpkin seeds, fennel, etc. Not a favorite seasoning but it was ok. At least the bagel was chewy with alittle crunch from being toasted. They hardly put cream cheese on it. Overall, it was okay. If i go back, will have to go for something else.
Great place for simple but high quality breakfast lunch coffee and baked goods in the lovely little town of Los Alamos. MacReeves said don’t fret the long line which moves pretty efficiently if it’s not out the door. We got a levain loaf to go, and ate brunch there on the lovely rustic patio under the trees. Started with dessert bc why not. Apple kouign amann, so buttery and caramelly, and chocolate almond croissant crispy and flaky but paltry on almond filling, plus coffees. Next our entrees came out pretty quickly: lardon and creme fraiche sauced mushroom medley on biscuit with a poached egg, and eggs Benedict on house made English muffin. Pretty good but both dishes needed seasoning, and there was nary a salt shaker or pepper grinder in sight. My only other complaint would be for the food to come out hot, as room temp eggs aren’t appealing. Overall though, what a nice way to spend an hour in wine country on a gorgeous spring day with your loved one and happy ppl and doggoes all around.
Delicious delicious delicious. It's counter service and line management could use some work but the pastries, and breakfast were fresh, unique, colorful and delicious. My matcha latte was undrinkable and quickly overshadowed by the eggs in a jar and ricotta toast! Those two items were easily 10/10 and would come back just for these!
Walked in to order some coffee and a Danish. Place is really small and was extremely crowded at the door. Unfortunately, the register is in front of the entrance so it is hard to get in and out. The place looks clean but with it being jammed pack with tables and chairs as soon as you open their door, I could not tell that well. Bakery had little to choose from but with what I did order, which was cold, was delicious. The latte was done to my liking. The cashier was not that friendly, he didn't smile much. It was an early morning and maybe it is not always crowded. The outside area is nicely manicured. Would love to return when not so crowded to give place a second chance.
Delicious bread and sadly not so good coffee. How is it that a great bakery can’t make a good cappuccino? Had the egg toast #1 which was tasty but found the single egg portion left something to be desired. Otherwise very friendly service and a nice chill atmosphere. All in all would definitely come back for the bread and pastries. Maybe next time I’ll just have a tea.
This café is truly a hidden treasure. We stopped in for a weekday brunch and overall had a really pleasant visit. The staff was not unfriendly, but the welcome felt a little neutral rather than warm and enthusiastic. It did not ruin the experience, just something we noticed. We chose to sit on the patio next to the café, which was such a charming little space. They also have additional outdoor seating that looked equally inviting. The wait for our food was pretty standard, which we appreciated. I ordered the ham and cheese croissant. It was served at room temperature since it had been prepared earlier in the day. They did not mention warming it up, and I did not think to ask, but I probably will next time because it would have made a big difference. I felt similarly about the glazed pastry, which also would have benefited from being heated. That said, my wife ordered the Egg in a Jar and we were both completely obsessed. It was easily the highlight of our visit and honestly the reason we plan on returning. The items that are served fresh seem to really shine. I am still thinking about that dish a week later. Overall, we would give it four stars. The room temperature pastries were a bit of a letdown, but the adorable patio and the incredible Egg in a Jar definitely won us over enough to come back again.
Very foodie and expensive. It was hyped up and seemed it had sort of a cult following. The food: The breakfast menu had fancy names for the entrees . A ducky-wucky ( one SMALL egg in the middle of a slice of bread fried ) was my pick. They put a few cooked cherry tomatoes on it and charged $18. The egg on an English muffin sandwich, with a weird tasting sausage patty, was $17. We surmised it was dark meat turkey with a strange spice addition cooked into it. Now the croissant was about the best I have ever eaten. Coffee was good. The blueberry scone was ok, but had a stale day-old taste. The seating inside is limited as the building is old. The outside seating area was very nice and inviting with shade trees and a garden like setting. I would suggest that they replace the antiquated picnic tables with some dining garden furniture commensurate with the foodie setting they are trying to project. I might try the lunch menu if we are ever in town again.
I HAD many fond memories of this place, unfortunately something must have changed, at least as far as the croissants go. The $6 croissants are now comparable to Costco croissants---so sad. I don't know if they were day old or just a bad day at the oven. But so disappointed.
Dang. Last time I was here the young female at the register was rude and indifferent. Fast forward 6 months I try to come back again. I walk in the door and hear a young man at the register tell a nice group ahead of me (in a lo-key chastising voice) to line up by the pastry counter and not block the door. I thought maybe it was just me being a little sensitive after my last visit but the group in front of me walked outside and all of them felt and were annoyed by the negative vibes too. I assured them the food is decent, the coffee mediocre, and because there aren't a lot of options here I think they chose to stay. Not me. When is someone going to teach the counter staff here how to be friendly? And I work in the service industry. It's early and not even crowded in there acting so entitled. 🤷🏼
it was a good pastry, but a horrible 30 minute wait. There were 17 people with numbers ahead of me. Even though 5-8 if then gave up, it was still 20 minutes before we were even able to place our order. If it hadn't been a beautiful warm afternoon I would have bailed! Do they make the pastry AFTER you order? Wow!
The food was very disappointing. The tiny soup (8oz for $8.50) was so watery I drank it rather than use the spoon. It came with a random piece of what was almost certainly a piece of day old bread. The caprese sandwich was also disappointing. For $15 I got a small sandwich with similarly stale bread. The accompanying salad was gritty so I didn't eat it. I'm really bummed because the staff are super friendly and the location is great. However it's probably my last visit.
I visited on Saturday, August 16, 2025, around 2:30 PM, hoping to enjoy some pastries with my coffee. While the coffee and iced tea were actually quite good, I was really put off by the sight of a fly inside the countertop display case. I quietly mentioned it to the cashier—a blonde woman—expecting some concern or action. Instead, she simply said, “I know and I cannot do anything about it.” That response was honestly disappointing. It made me question the overall cleanliness and care for the food being served. I ended up not ordering any pastries, and left feeling let down. A good drink doesn’t make up for poor hygiene and indifferent service.
The customer service was good, but I was uncomfortable with how the food was handled. The staff weren’t wearing gloves, and the cleanliness didn’t seem up to standard. It made me lose my appetite a bit. I hope they can improve hygiene practices, because everything else was great.
we ate there with a friend who is allergic to tree nuts. While ordering, we asked if there was any tree nuts in the food we were ordering and was assured there was none though there may be trace amounts from baking. Our friend ate the first pastry, and hazelnuts were a main ingredient and he suffered an allergic reaction. Please be careful when eating their food!!
