Dine in Providence almost 15 years . All ways deserve for michelin ☆☆☆ finally got it. One of the top restaurants in the world!!!
Everything I would expect from such a restaurant. With the BEST service. The food was well executed, constantly evolving, and offers add ons to the tasting menu. We took the classic wine pairing and the chef opened a bottle of Krug for us just because we waited for our table for a few min🤯.
What an EXTRAORDINARY experience at Providence!!!❤️😍 My sister and I had an incredibly special dinner here! The moment we walked in the door, the service was impeccable. Every single bite we had was BEYOND DELICIOUS! The team made every moment so special and were so attentive and caring thorough every minute of our 3.5 hour dinner! Chef Natalie was AMAZING and treated us like VIPS! Thank you as well to our amazing servers - Enoch, Bobby and Jose! We are already dreaming of when we can return for our next meal - this was a truly magical experience, with every dish created to PERFECTION! It has 3 Michelin stars for a reason! 🌟🌟🌟
Every time I fly back home to LA, Providence is my first and most essential stop. It is the absolute pinnacle of seafood and truly earns every bit of its three Michelin stars. Chef Michael Cimarusti’s vision is flawless. I have a huge appreciation for the Japanese aesthetic woven throughout the experience (from the minimalist, elegant plating to the profound respect for the ingredients). The seafood is unparalleled in its purity and technique. The wine list is world-class, the service is intuitive and warm, and the atmosphere is the perfect blend of luxury and coastal serenity. If you are looking for the best seafood in the country, this is it. A heartfelt thank you to Chef Cimarusti and the team for maintaining such incredible standards year after year.
5 Stars – A Transcendent Masterpiece: One of the Best Three-Michelin-Star Experiences in the World I deliberately planned our New Year's Eve dinner at Providence on Melrose Avenue in Los Angeles because I'd heard such incredible things about Chef Michael Cimarusti's fine-dining seafood destination. And wow—it absolutely delivered. This wasn't just a special holiday meal; it was pure culinary artistry, ranking among the finest three-Michelin-star experiences I've had anywhere on the planet. Fresh off earning its coveted third Michelin star in the 2025 Guide (along with its long-held Green Star for sustainability), Providence is firing on all cylinders right now. The tranquil, elegant setting immediately sets a refined yet welcoming tone—perfect for welcoming the new year. We chose the earlier seating on the prix-fixe New Year's Eve menu so we could return to another celebration at our hotel afterward. Every detail was thoughtful and executed flawlessly. A quick note on pricing for anyone considering a visit: The special New Year's Eve tasting menu was $550 per person, with an automatic 20% service charge and taxes added on top. This is well worth the money and directly in line with other Michelin 3 star restaurants. The sheer innovation, impeccable ingredients, flawless service, and memorable experience delivered exceptional value in the realm of true luxury fine dining. As a former Kentuckian and dedicated bourbon connoisseur, I was thrilled by the whiskey list—it featured more than enough top-shelf bourbons to satisfy any Bluegrass State palate. They even pour their own private single-barrel selection: the Weller Full Proof Providence Single Barrel (2021 release) at just $35 an ounce. It went down incredibly smooth, rich, and complex—pure bliss. My wife opted for a cocktail and wasn't disappointed; the Shi Shi Ru Yi (柿柿如意) was a beautifully balanced gem, blending Wheatley vodka with touches of persimmon, Aperitivo Mazurka, tangerine, and cinnamon. The flavors danced in perfect harmony. Here are a couple of the opening highlights that blew us away: The bluefin tuna tartare with black truffle was out-of-this-world sublime—meltingly tender, bursting with umami and luxurious depth. My wife added the iconic Uni Egg, presented in a delicate ceramic egg with charming duck feet accents. It featured creamy sea urchin, champagne beurre blanc, and crisp brioche croutons—decadent, surprising, and utterly unforgettable. The entire tasting progression felt like wizardry: intricate layers of flavors that explode, evolve, and harmonize with every bite. The chefs here are true masters at composing such complex yet balanced "arithmetic" in each dish. Providence boasts an incredible list of accolades—"Top 50 Restaurants in the United States" by Gourmet magazine, "Best Seafood Restaurant" by Los Angeles magazine, #1 in Jonathan Gold’s 101 Best Restaurants in the Los Angeles Times, a James Beard Award, and now three highly coveted Michelin stars. It's easy to see why. This New Year's Eve at Providence was more than dinner—it was a masterpiece of art on the plate. If you're chasing an extraordinary fine-dining experience, make the reservation. You absolutely won't regret it. 5 stars, hands down!
Providence remains one of those rare restaurants that does not chase relevance because it already owns it. This is seafood as high craft, quiet confidence, and discipline meeting deep pleasure. Every course feels intentional without ever feeling precious. The room is calm and composed, the kind of place where the noise of the city falls away and attention sharpens. You are here to eat, to notice, to slow down. The tasting menu is a master class in restraint and clarity. Santa Barbara spot prawns arrive pristine and sweet, treated with reverence rather than theatrics. The uni course is luminous, briny, and balanced, never heavy, never fussy. Their legendary salt roasted Santa Barbara prawns deserve the reputation they carry. Perfect texture, pure flavor, nothing to hide behind. The lobster dishes show technical precision without losing warmth. Sauces are exacting and layered, built for depth rather than volume. Even the simplest preparations feel studied in the best way. Presentation is elegant and modern, never distracting. Plates land like punctuation marks, not exclamation points. The wine program is world class, with pairings that elevate rather than overpower. Thoughtful selections, confident pours, and pacing that respects the arc of the meal. Cocktails follow the same philosophy clean, restrained, and purposeful. Service is among the best in the city. Polished, knowledgeable, and genuinely hospitable. Questions are welcomed. Timing is flawless. You never feel rushed, and you never feel forgotten. Providence is not trying to impress you. It simply does. This is Los Angeles fine dining at its most serious and most satisfying. A benchmark restaurant that earns its reputation every single night.
My husband and I dined here for our 28th anniversary. We also went to Somni, the other 3 Michelin star restaurant in LA. The two restaurants are totally different. We thoroughly enjoyed both. The service at Providence was professional and warm. We loved the diverse FOH staff. Every morsel of food was cooked perfectly. The cooking temps and textures were on point within seconds of perfect. This is no easy feat to do consistently. We also got to meet the chef who is a very warm bear of a man. He exudes joy and work ethic. The sommelier was exceptionally knowledgeable. I went with the premium wine pairing. Good grief, what an experience.
If it's not the best restaurant in the LA area, it's in the top 3-5. Been coming here for really specialy occiasions over the last 10+ years. As a seafood lover, it's hands down my favorite restaurant in the LA area. Service: Friendly, extremely knowledgeable, attentive, and unpretentious, exactly what you would expect from a 2-3 Michelin star restaurant. Drinks were fantastic as you would expect. I tend to opt for beer and Providence consistently has had small brewery interesting and delicious beers. Amuse-bouche - 4 bite size preparation with nice textural elements, and nice flavors. Lots of preparations of seafood which were outstanding, the intersection of extremely high quality seafood, perfectly prepared or raw, in fantastic tasting sauces. Exactly what you would expect in a 3 Michelin star restaurant, absolutely perfectly done with interesting textures and tastes. We opted for the Prawns, which were an addtion. Came with a cool show as they came encrusted with salt and cut tableside. Absolutely amazing, sweet and delicious with nothing more than a bit of salt and lemon. Bread- Red Fife Sourdough- House made and delicious, i liked the story that came with it, and the butter of course... the butter! Some interesting preparations of chocolate including a chocolate tea. They were good but I would say the dessert was the least memorable part of the meal. Highly recommend if you are in the area and if it's in your budget!
Came from Vancouver, BC to try their menu. It definitely deserves a 3-stars. The restaurant has a very relaxed and elegant atmosphere, the background music has the right volume and good album that improve your appetite. Staffs are very friendly and welcoming. Great items on the menu, every dish is a highlight. Great job!
I dropped in on Providence recently, a 17 year hiatus from my initial visit in 2008. The restaurant has gone strength to strength since then, garnering the highest Michelin star status and elevating the overall fine-dining scene in LA. Service was impeccable and the food did not disappoint. It was one of the better Michelin-starred experiences I’ve had nation-wide in the United States. The wine list surprised to the upside as well, they have a good collection of Burgundies which I thought were pretty well priced. However, not to be overly nitpicky, I did want to provide some constructive feedback. For context, I reside in Asia and I made a reservation on-line a month ahead of time. About a week away from the reservation date, I got a call from the restaurant to confirm my attendance. This is standard procedure for any high-end restaurant and I completely understand the need to do so. The problem was, when I got the call, it was 4am my time in Asia. Being rudely waken up from my slumber, I proceeded to be peppered with questions regarding my reservation/food allergies etc. I was a bit annoyed since whoever made the call should have noticed the international country code and could have been more aware of time zone differences. To the say the least, it was not appreciated but since it was Providence, I made an exception. My second nitpick is with the wine experience. As I mentioned previously, I was impressed with the Burgundy selection. I had my eye on a bottle of red from a producer which I never had before. After consulting with the sommelier, I decided to go for it. As the wine was being served, I noticed the cloudy nature of the wine and upon further investigation, realized the wine was non-filtered and made from whole-bunch fermentation, ala Prieure Roch. I happen to like this style of wine making a lot and did not have any complaints. However this wine making style is not everyone’s cup of tea. I was a bit surprised that the sommelier did not flag this upfront since I made it pretty clear that I had not any wines from this producer before and was looking to him for some advice. With that being said, I enjoyed the overall experience and thought the 3-starred distinction thoroughly deserved! I will definitely come back, shout out to bar man Kim.
The food was great, but the portions were extremely small—which is to be expected at a Michelin-starred restaurant. Each course was beautifully presented, but the bites were so tiny that it felt more like a tasting experience than an actual meal. You do get a lot of courses, though, so you won’t leave starving—but you also won’t leave feeling full. The dishes themselves were hit or miss. Some were absolutely amazing, while others felt unnecessarily experimental and honestly just kind of strange. The cheese add-on was definitely the standout—I’d highly recommend adding it if you go. Overall, Providence is a place I think is worth trying once for a special occasion, especially if you’re into fine dining experiences and don’t mind adventurous flavors. The service was impeccable and the atmosphere was elegant but not stuffy. That said, for the price point, I wouldn’t go back. It’s a one-time experience for me.
We recently dined at Providence in LA for a friend’s birthday, and it was truly an outstanding experience. The food was absolutely amazing — each dish was beautifully presented and delivered incredible flavors that exceeded our expectations. The level of creativity and attention to detail in every course was top notch. The staff and waiters were also exceptional: professional, attentive, and knowledgeable, which made the entire evening feel special and seamless. Overall, this was one of the best dining experiences I’ve had in Los Angeles. I would definitely go back and recommend Providence to anyone looking for a memorable fine dining experience.
So we visited again, our annual June dinner at Providence. It's nice that the automatic Yelp-sort defaults to your own past reviews; so I did a quick rereading of past write-ups. And there's no real change of how I feel about Providence. Our experience, like the menu, was different; though, there is no change in how I feel...I still LOVE them. This year, we brought another couple so when the call came to confirm our reservation and check for allergies/dietary restrictions (there were none), they also asked if we'd like the Chef's Table!!! Well, YES, absolutely! We had dined at the chef's table once before. And in the time in between, there was a remodel. The chef's table is a luxurious U-shaped booth: it seats two facing the kitchen, and one seat each side, with a fifth seating (a chair) with the back to the kitchen (so optimally, you'd want no more than 4, but a fifth seat is available should your party need it). After a quick review on OpenTable, my guess is that we were long-time diners (since 2010) and a party of four (instead of our usual two) that lead them to offer us the coveted table. Then came the cocktail and food menus. Carlos, who appears so serious and professional, is actually very charming and engaging. In fact, they ALL are; they all have this air of professionalism, astuteness, and graciousness, but they are all so extremely personable, each in their own way. Enoch, our other service professional, is mellow, sweet, funny and informative. Then there's Mr. Poto, famous for his congeniality (admittedly, I'm a fan), who has the best table-side manners anywhere. He comes by, welcomes us, shakes our hands, and everything feels right with the world (even though this administration just bombed Iran that evening.) New this year is that there are now TWO menus: a $325 Classic and a $450 Chef's Tasting. The difference is that for the Classic, you'll select your main (usu salmon, duck or A5 wagyu); with the Chef's Tasting, you get all three. Knowing our appetites, we all elected to do the Classic (the men ordered duck; my sister and I chose salmon) and added a couple of their sinfully delicious and artfully beautiful uni egg. (The only reason we did not select A5 wagyu is that we all visited Japan this year, where we had wagyu. Also, Providence being a seafood restaurant, it only made sense for us to stick with seafood [duck, while poultry, is kinda seafood adjacent].) The thing about Providence that I - who spent half my pre-adult life in Japan - absolutely love is the Japanese aesthetic, through and through. Their logo is evocative of the Zen/Japanese enso/circle. Their approach to seafood is of a thoughtful, masterful craftsman, continuously working toward improvement or kaizen. The flavours are deliciously understated. Everything is just enough, nothing is heavy handed or 'extra'. Both the food and the flavours are delicate, ephemeral and harmonious. Their service speaks to 'omotenashi'. For anyone who's been to and raves about Japanese service, omotenashi is that underlying trait...with an Italian flair (a nod to Mr. Poto's warmth). The evening went by extremely smoothly and far too quickly; a three hour dinner sounds long, but our evening went by in a flash. The first-timer in our group was wowed by the evening. He was in amazement with the 'inexplicably delicious' food, the mindful service, and being able to see a busy kitchen working so smoothly. I had to apologise to him that this experience will ruin him to all others, because nothing will compare. And huge appreciation to Chef Michael Cimarusti for acknowledging us in person. My apologies that you had to chase us down during a busy kitchen service, but I'm extremely grateful you caught us at the front door. It was an exceptional, memorable dining experience and we look forward to visiting again for many years to come. Congratulations on your 20 years and your third Michelin star!
WOW OMG WOW OMG WOW OMG WOW !!! From the moment we entered this outstanding restaurant we were captivated by caring staff, zen like ambiance & some of the best food in the world. Superlatives would spring forth with every bite taken into each & every dish we consumed. We were truely amazed & full of gratitude. Having been fortunate over the decades to have eaten in some of the world’s best restaurants, this restaurant was a highly successful stand out of pure perfection on a plate, from preparation to presentation. Our celebratory evening with our son was a truely memorable event thanks to all the staff involved. We normally don’t take photos at restaurants but felt compelled on this occasion to capture the sensational attention to detail in every serving. Finally, to be invited back of house into the kitchen to meet with the head chef & legion of staff preparing our food & to be able to provide them first hand with the praise they richly deserve was also a privilege. . THANK YOU ALL FOR CREATING MEMORIES TO LAST A LIFETIME !!
At a cost of $800 for two people this place better be damn well 5 stars!! A 2 Michelin Star establishment that delivered and excelled in their service. Made me feel like I was a Bond villain the way staff was at my disposal. The tasting menu was amazing and also 3 hours long so be prepared and bring a pillow. There is a briefing of every dish so be prepared to listen! The craft cocktails were great and for $50 I got a table side show. Awesome, I’m paying so much already so might as well go all in. I decided to break my sobriety on this fancy cocktail! Shhh don’t tell my AA groupo about it though. I left full so that’s a plus. I lost count of the courses but they were all very pleasant. There is an Asian version influence in there ingredients used and the seafood was fresh. My main was duck and my partner had seafood. Both were prepared perfectly with accompanied sauces. (The sauce for fish felt slightly salty). There are several upgrade options, I did not care of the A5 supplement nor the cheese. I was more interested in seeing labor and skilled put onto a micro dish. I want to feel the hardship and hours spent putting a puzzle together. At one point the came out with some home made sour dough bread made with grains “grown 100 miles from Los Angeles”. It was paired with French butter that was divine. Although the crust of the bread was hard enough to cut diamonds, the inside was soft and fluffy. I broke my molars making sure to eat all the bread because I couldn’t justify leaving even a crumb left. The variety in their courses deserves a round of applause. The creativity and presentation was very fun and unique. At the end of dinner came a few varieties of desert accompanied with tea. Great way to round the dinner. The plating was most impressive, so unique it left a lasting memory. Food is art for sure here. A great signature of their experience! At the end, as I prepared to leave they went ahead and called my vehicle for me. I never had that kind of service before so it is worth mentioning what a 2 Michelin experience gets ya! Over all it was amazing but it does feel a bit dated on the inside. Interior was intimate but did not feel new which I did not like very much. I’m not sure if I can handle a 3 hour dinner (as opposed to a 3 hour lunch) but it was definitely an experience worth trying.
The food was good for the most part, however, the disappointment was the bread. It was so hard and stale it actually hurt to chew. And the bread course is usually my favourite. The staff were all very attentive and kind and the restaurant is nice. But paying the cost of a tasting menu (and this one is definitely on the high end) and one course be of poor quality, really throws it off.
We had to wait for over a month to reserve a slot at 8:45. The restaurant was very popular. It was located in an inconspicuous spot by the roadside and didn't match the surrounding environment well. We chose the special recommendation from the chef, which was basically the three optional main dishes provided in the daily menu included. Each dish was not very large, and it was almost enough to finish in one or two bites. We finished the food in the set menu around 11:50. We felt very full. We also ordered the dessert (chocolate) to go. My favorite dessert is the one in picture number fifteen. Overall, I think the taste of the dishes here doesn't meet the standards of a Michelin star restaurant , delicious but not impressive.
I came to Providence with very high hopes for an unforgettable dining experience, but honestly: “Quite ordinary.” Appetizers: Caviar and uni were disappointing and uninspired. Then salmon with cream, crispy bread, and black truffle – ingredients I expected to be more creative at a 3-star level, but instead felt very common. Sashimi & king crab: Nicely presented, but the sauce was overly salty and once again paired with caviar – repetitive and dull. Santa Barbara prawn & egg yolk with uni: Lacked impact, not memorable at all. Scallop with XO sauce: Finally, a highlight – flavorful and well executed. Abalone – nothing special, slightly salty Risotto with Italian white truffle: Overly rich and heavy, lacking finesse. Duck breast & king salmon: Average at best, nothing special. Desserts: The best part of the meal – especially the in-house chocolate, which was delicious. Overall, I was looking for something extraordinary from a Michelin 3-star restaurant, but what I got could easily be found in many non-Michelin places. Outdated ingredients, unimaginative execution, and little creativity. Don’t get me wrong – the food was good, but it was not remarkable in terms of ingredients or creativity. I give this restaurant 3 stars (just okay), not because the food wasn’t good, but because it was overhyped. Good food doesn’t necessarily come from the most expensive ingredients. True culinary artistry is about creating unforgettable flavors and experiences from even the simplest ingredients.
