It is a perfect place to eat quality hamburgers with their French fries or a good teriaqui but the cheese steak is delicious with a fresh water is the best
Me and Ray go way back. He’s the only one that I’ll travel to if I’m craving a burger I’ll go to. I get the teriyaki burger with avocado and they just know how to make it. Ray knows me by my first name because I used to work across the street from him I need him to open multiple locations.
The BEST burgers hands down! They are HUGE! I’ve had just about every burger on the menu and they’re ALL good! I recommend EVERYONE to go to Ray’s and get something to eat. It’s reasonably priced and the food is to die for!
The bacon cheese burger and fries are my self care meal. Everything is delicious and fresh; you can tell they get high quality ingredients. Staff works very hard in a small hot space and is still kind while putting out great food.
The pastrami breakfast melt was delicious! Wow! Half eaten and I am stuffed! My husband ordered the breakfast burrito and it was also delicious and huge! The coffee was good too. I highly recommend Ray’s. The food here is hot, fresh, creative, and satisfying.
Ray's is a great small business with BIG portions. The staff was very friendly and helpful in suggesting a meal. The food was made fresh and quickly. The portions were big enough for 2 solid meals. I will definitely be visiting again soon. I've been here twice now and we've had a teriyaki plate (huge portion), breakfast burrito (stuffed with grilled veggies), tuna melt (large portion and three different cheese), and a tuna sandwich (so much fresh veggies). Enjoy coming here and will continue to support Ray's.
Food here is great, staff is friendly and always give great service. Been coming here since forever. The chicken teriyaki, and burgers are delicious with every bite. My newly found favorite recently is the cheese steak sandwich. My mouth waters and taste buds dance everytime I crave one. The specialty lemonade is a great beverage to help wash down the deliciously, fresh food that Ray's has!!! You won't be disappointed!!!!
My new favorite lunch spot! Nice people and small business feel. So far I've had a delicious breakfast burrito and a cheeseburger. Good ingredients: ripe tomatoes, perfect avocados and ..is this a brioche bun? (It's really fluffy and good). There's no skimping here. I hope they get lots of business because they're quality!
I love coming here for lunch. My crew and me always eat here on Thursdays. They have delicious burgers . My guys always get the beef and chicken teriyaki. It's a small place but food taste good . The servings are big.
This is a local burger place in Sawtelle. Their burgers are really good and affordable. Line is a bit long during lunch hours and they close early around 4pm. So make sure to check their open hours before driving. Try their bacon burgers or avocado burgers w/ fries!
My nephew and I ordered Philly Cheese Steaks...OMG, it was AMAZING. their fries were thin and had the perfect amount of crunch. We both thoroughly enjoyed our lunch.
A little hidden gem in West LA. Amazing food, portions, pricing, and flavor! I’m going to be a regular from now on. The hamburgers and teriyaki chicken is amazing. So happy to have discovered this joint.
Delicious! Incredible food, love these guys! Yummy teriyaki chicken plate, cheeseburgers, pastrami melts and grilled cheese sandwich!!! 😋 They also have aguas frescas like limonada and maracuya, so tasty! Everyone is very polite and a pleasure. Always a go to.
I've been looking for a reason to visit Rays and today I had an express mail to send @ the USPS so I thought I'd hit up Rays and I'm glad I finally did. I had a pastrami sandwich, which was wunderbar and fries well done but sadly no blue cheese dressing...well you can't have 'em all...I had a nice chat with what I was assuming was the owner and this person whomever he may be was very gracious and courteous.
Forget gourmet, small plates, fancy in places. Give me the simple decent good food that tastes great and is reasonable.Cudtomer service fine but give me the teriyaki anytime, burgers too. I been coming here for years and every time I am in the area you will see me at the counter ordering.
Okay this place fell into my hands from heaven. They have breakfast, lunch the breakfast burrito I had super huge and tasty. I have also eat their burgers and they are amazing. If you pay a few dollars extra they add fries and soda. I alsor have tried the teriyaki chicken and it's delicious. Plus with all plates they give you a roasted pepper. Ih and also the patrami sandwich is super delicious as well. Pretty much I'm a bit of an eater and this place won with all titles. I highly recommend.
Highly recommend, very clean and efficient with their space. The owner Ray and his staff are great and the food is better! Hip Hip HooRAY...I have to also say the "Denver" omelette should be renamed to Texas because it's big and delicious!
Hearty Deli aka Ray's is a great quick pick up lunch spot. They also do breakfast before 11am. I've had just about each item on the menu except for maybe the NY cheesesteak sand. and the teriyaki anything... and everything has been good.
I delivered gas to this location and the cashier / cook gave me a big meal. The price may be average not cheap, but the meal was worth it. Tasted well done and it seemed fresh. I enjoyed it.
I work nearby, literally about a block away, and even though I don't know the owner's name, I feel like I see him every time I go. It's a great little spot that's willing to 'make it right' for his customers as much as he possibly can. I highly recommend giving this place a try for breakfast or lunch.
Stopped by on a morning walk for a breakfast quesdilla. it was so good! Add grilled onions too. The agua fresca is delicious as well and everyone there was so sweet
The Pastrami Sandwich and fries are my favorite
Stopped in to this to-go burger spot for my first time and really enjoyed it. They have a large menu and portions. Service was quick, everything that we ordered was cooked well and had some great flavor. Parking can be tricky in this part of town depending on the time, but I was able to find street parking one block away. Everything that we ordered came out really fast and pricing is fair. This is not a sit down and eat kind of place, it is designed for to go, which is what I chose to do for this first visit. I chose the Patty Melt and added avocado because it’s filled with cheese and large patties. It had some great seasoning on the meat and the bread was perfectly toasted. The french fries on the side weren’t my favorite but still enjoyable. I would recommend and visit again in the future to try different items.
Had the breakfast burrito and the cheese steak. Great food great prices. Kind of a long wait but worth it.
Love the teriyaki (spicy, with grilled onions). The meat was really flavorful and I was enjoying it despite wondering where the spice was. Then I tried what likely are shredded yellow chili peppers (pictured in the upper left corner of the meat) - sinus clearing! Really great food and the perfect heat level with the peppers (if in the mood). Salad dressing not pictured but a great complement to the beef teriyaki. The grilled vegetables are a wonderful alternative to salad too. Looking forward to trying everything on the menu!
Great service! Great food! So delicious and quick! The gentleman at the counter is courteous and kind. Cheese steak sandwich and tuna melt on point! Easy order, easy parking. Best place on this block 405 & Santa Monica Blvd. Great place for a late lunch.
Absolutely delicious. Friendly service. They use beef tallow for their fries. 👍One of the best in West LA.
Honestly the chicken teriyaki might be the best takeout lunch in LA. It's huge and reasonably priced. French fries are also amazing, super crispy hot and salty. Aguas frescas are fresh and delicious too.
I eat the teriyaki for lunch almost everyday, and with it I get the lemonade with chia and mango and I just CANNOT get sick of this. The teriyaki is bomb! Huge portion, and lots of toppings. The lemonade is the most delicious thing ever. Im afraid I cant bring myself to try anything else because the teriyaki is still so good!

☀️☀️☀️☀️☀️Great counter for picking up breakfast/lunch while at West LA LAPL / courthouse, USPS, UCLA Thrift Shop, Cinephile, Sawtelle neighborhood LAPD Purdue station, etc. On a rainy day, bring your umbrella and enjoy the fact that you can hop over to LAPL with your coffee ☕️ 🫖 🧃 🌂 📚🙏 What could be better? Seat cushions 😁 Graçias, Ray’s. (No food allowed inside LAPL)
Amazing food! I got the teriyaki burger and got it spicy! So much flavor and a really generous portion. The staff were also very friendly and fast preparing the food. My friend got fries and they also were amazing! So, I would recommend getting your meal with fries. Would definitely recommend!
It’s not often that I take time to write a review. If I am taking time out of my day to leave one, it was either amazing or so bad that no one should ever experience what I did. This place is absolutely awesome. It is a local gem. The owner, Ray, is a super nice guy that works with his team, each and every day. They make great food at affordable prices. My favorite is the chicken and beef teriyaki bowl. I get it with veggies instead of rice and it is so tasty and filling that I order it a few times per week, religiously. The burger is also absolutely incredible!! The patties and nice and thick and juicy. They cook them to temp (I order mine medium rare) and load them up with all the amazing toppings. I made the mistake of ordering a double burger and I could barely take a bite it was so big!! If you are in the area, try it out. If you work/live nearby, make it a regular stop on your weekly rotation.
While slightly pricy it is more than made up for in taste and quality. Staff are decent enough for type of over the counter place it is. Only downside is the seating can be a bit dirty, but you can just take out anyway.
Great spot for lunch and great customer service. I had the chicken and beef teriyaki plate, lots of protein and flavorful. Will be back!

1/9/26: Had the pastrami sandwich. Pretty good, filing.
The burgers here are pretty excellent. The french fries were pretty good too. The onion rings I ordered were mediocre. There's outside seating that is next to the sidewalk. Some people might say it adds to the vibe and others may say it would detract. For the cause, it's a pretty excellent spot.
A charming burger stand right off Santa Monica Boulevard, with an old school Americana and an edge of Westside experimentation. I have yet to try the cheesesteak, or the teriyaki, but the burger is done right and the lemonade with chia and mango is paradoxically just right.
Rays, side street burger joint. Let's begin! Pros: grilled bun, thick burger, extra grilled jalepeno on the side, grilled onions on request, fresh veggies on the burger, bacon thick and real and finally, each bite crutched with the sounds of the gods Cons: parking and seating is limited. Now for the price. When I saw I was paying 11.75 for a Bacon cheese burger, I felt jipped a little. This is because I was expecting a flat patty, salty overcooked bacon on a small bun with soggy veggies. I was already bitter before I got my burger, but how wrong was i. They cooked it so good, by the time I was finished eating it, I was high-fiving myself in the car. Its SOLID and worth the cash.
Great hole in the wall! Awesome for a quick lunch. Had the Philly cheese steak sandwich. I will definitely be back to try other things.
This restaurant is good and been for ages.. I'm wishing west l.a. rep stop it's game and start keeping the roads & sidewalks cleaner¹
It was definitely good. not an average spot . I spent about 20 for this meal

Had the patty melt and was not disappointed at all. The fries made in tallow make difference too. Taste so much better than other burger spots
I like this place and I would go back. But if I did I would try something else, like the teriyaki. As others have stated in other reviews. The cheese steak sandwich could use some seasoning. I drove around the corner to the 7/11 to buy salt and pepper to put on the sandwich. But I will say that the ingredients in and on the sub were really good and tested fresh.

It was better than your fast food burger joint. My son who is a burger connoisseur said it was ok and rated it 6 out of 10. Good place for a quick bite. Enjoy!
Patty melt on sourdough is decent, cheesesteak is cooked well but beef is under seasoned/bland, if it were cheese whiz maybe it would be ok but was provolone. Beef tallow fries are ok, breaded onion rings are pretty good.

I was fairly disappointed because the cheeseburger was okay, nothing note worthy, and the fries were not good. The loaded version is probably better but it’s a huge up charge. Maybe don’t get the cheeseburger and fries here? Maybe their other items are better? No idea, but I was hoping this place would be similar to big Joe’s (which closed in SM) and it was not.

The cheese steak sandwich was average and the fries were cheap and fried in that hasn't been cleaned enough. Cashier was a little rude, slammed the window in my face for no reason. Paid $22 for sandwich and fries. Will not return. I lowered the score for the owner calling me a liar in his response here.
