This is a really sweet sandwich shop! Outside seating only and a walk up counter. Really love their website and branding. We ordered the Larry Mantle sandwich which was delicious. Really generous portion, loved the extra cheese on top and the pickle spear. They also give you an extra side of dressing in case you need it. My only note would be that the bottoms were a bit soggy because of the dressing that was pre-added. This didn’t ruin the sandwich by any means, but if we were taking them away and not eating there, it might have. Their seating area is really cute and gives you a nice view of the little street. Great sandwich shop, would recommend!

First visit, had the Audie Cornish which is the best ham sandwich I've ever had. 7/31/25: Second visit had the Steve Julian which was good but didn't love.

Few places surprise me, this one was one of them. We ordered the Ira glass with turkey, which was amazing. One sandwich was enough for two, a bite full had tons of flavor. We also got the pepper flavored chips, which tasted home made, lacked the pepper flavor. However, they were still very good. They have plenty of food and drink options. This place closes early, so you need to get here early. Parking can be hard, and seating is only available for a handful of people. But the experience is worth it.

I recently visited Wax Paper, and I must say, it was an outstanding experience from start to finish. The quality of the ingredients was exceptional—everything tasted fresh, flavorful, and perfectly prepared. Their bread is baked to perfection, with just the right balance of crunch and softness. The variety of sandwiches on their menu is impressive, catering to all tastes and dietary preferences. I tried the [specific sandwich name], and it was hands-down one of the best sandwiches I’ve ever had. The combination of ingredients was thoughtfully curated, and every bite was a delight. The staff was warm, friendly, and attentive, ensuring that my order was prepared just the way I liked it. The atmosphere of the store was inviting, clean, and cozy, making it a great spot to enjoy a quick meal or linger for a bit. Whether you’re in a rush or looking to savor a high-quality sandwich, this place is a must-visit. Highly recommended!

Brunch!! Stopped in right as they opened. They quickly filled all the seats. But I do feel I could have happily walked around; snacking. Although- this sammy does require two hands!! My sister went for Ira. While I gorged on Lakshmi (I did add pepper jack). We shared the slaw & I chugged the cold brew quicker than a man in the dessert.

Ira Glass add salami is a truly brilliant sandwich! The bub and grandma’s bread puts it over the edge as well. Finish with soft serve and you have a perfect lunch. Chef’s kiss!

Came here on the spur of the moment based on a faintly remembered article about cool sandwich shops in LA. I can imagine any of them even coming close to this. I had the Larry Mantle as recommended by the staff. When I opened the little box it was like a ray of light shone down from the heavens, celebrating the fact that I had found my new favorite sandwich. Tasty, substantial, and perfectly squishy bread. Allegedly, there was other food at my table but I was too busy inhaling my sandwich to notice. I HIGHLY recommend finding this little out of the way place.

For those who love their sandwiches with lots of layers :) If you're a fan of bahn mi (Vietnamese sandwich), I recommend the Steve Julian sandwich! It has pickled daikon and carrot with a spicy jalapeño vinaigrette. I like my sandwiches with lots of layers and most of their sandwiches are stacked with flavors + layers. It's also big enough to share half with someone but if you're hungry I recommend ordering a sandwich for yourself. Parking is not the easiest but you can find spots around the neighborhood. There is a patio outside for outdoor seating and it's a cute spot for a mid-day lunch :^) You order and pick-up at the storefront window. Amazing spot if you're nearby and craving a good, healthy sandwich.

The Terry Gross / roast turkey, green chili aioli, jalapeño/cilantro/radish slaw, hominy, tomatillo vinaigrette, pepper jack, focaccia - 5 🌟 Thai tea + raspberry soft serve - 5 🌟 Wax Paper Frogtown is a bit out of the way but they are worth a visit. They gave a fun container space with a tiny patio. I went on a hot day but it was comfortable in the shade. The sandwich was excellent. Tasty blend of flavors and textures on super fresh house made bread. The slaw on the sandwich was great. All of it was and filling. I couldn't resist their soft serve. Perfect way to end a lunch meal on a very hot day. They have two locations. I'll be making sure I stop by their Chinatown spot.

I love the sandwiches here. I’ve been a few times and am a fan of the Terry Gross and the Garth Trinidad (pictured here). Lean slightly in favor of the Terry Gross, but all around fabulous textures and great combos of sweet / savory in a sandwich. Delicious. My only notch is how long it takes for the sandwiches. Even when you order ahead it takes a while. I obviously like the sandwiches made fresh, but perhaps a little pep in the step would be a welcomed change. Also not a ton of places to sit so can enjoy it in the park nearby or take it to go.

It’s a hole in the wall so be prepared that you may not be able to get a seat. We went on a Friday lunchtime and managed. There is a park around the corner you can sit in The sandwiches are delicious and super fresh. They bake their own bread and all the combos felt nourishing and healthy in their own way. Be aware that they don’t do substitution! I would recommend the Ira Glass, which is a super tasty veggie option.

Had a delicious Saturday lunch. Drove from Orange County 🍊 to have lunch here abs it was worth it. During the time waiting for our lunch to be ready we walked around the cute steers and visited the local shops. Cutest and healthiest sandwich ever

This is so sad to write because I loved wax paper and have been multiple times, but this last visit really pushed me to not come back. We got here at 11:20am on a Saturday and there was no one in line in front of us. We ordered 2 sandwiches and it took 45 minutes!! Insanity. Yes there are some to go orders but there were 4 employees working inside. Then for the food, I’m one of those people who forgives wait times and service if the food is amazing. The Larry mantle is my favorite but I asked the employee at the window what her favorite sandwich is and she recommended the Kai Risdal. Please don’t get this. It’s a tuna based sandwich but it literally feels like they dumped a can of tuna on the sandwich, put some dressing on it and called it a day. For a $17 sandwiches, that’s disappointing. The tuna was bland and dry—straight from a can. Unfortunately wax paper has really gone downhill and the experience of waiting and eating is just unpleasant.

These are solid sandwiches if you want to feel healthy and want a bite to eat… however despite using all sorts of ingredients, the taste comes out flat. We got the Terry Gross and the Garth Trinidad and felt all in all that it tasted like a regular turkey sandwich. I was really hoping to taste an explosion of flavors but it just never came! I don’t know if it’s whether or not the flavors are all very bold and competing so it all culminates to one note, but I was slightly underwhelmed especially with all the hype this place gets on social media. Note, they don’t offer any substitutions for anyone looking to substitute anything.

Waxpaper is just okay. The sandwiches are pretty tasty, but a little over priced. I don’t think it’s worth it to trek over to frogtown with this as your culinary destination, but if you happened to be in the area and hungry, it’s a decent option. Most annoying thing is how god awful slow they are. I went at 11 am when they first opened and was literally the first person to order and it was a 20 minute wait for a deli sandwich! Every time I’ve been it’s been incredibly slow and not that busy.

Review: From Terrible to Very Good. Arriving for the first time to this space the window is open and I'm saying hello to the staff and no one answers... First rule for restaurants: the customers are not an interruption of your work. They are the reason of your work. Subsequently, I learned that the staff had just arrived as the place was just opening, fine. I get that, but not able to say hello or be kind is just not going to lead to a nice experience but rather frustration. Also, you could leave the window closed and then it's obvious you're not ready for business yet...simple. After ordering and sitting outside at the small tables (there is no indoor seating) It was delightful to open up the box and see such a delicious lunch. The food surely redeemed the poor service.

While the sandwich was delicious, the wait time was unreasonable. We waited 45 minutes for two sandwiches and they are absolutely not cheap. Also, you aren’t warned about how long the wait will be until after the order is placed (via the website). The staff had zero urgency. Pretty disappointing.

Got the Terry Gross, which was a pretty good sandwich, but the service is so bad I probably won’t come back. The system for this place makes no sense. One window and line handles both new orders and pick ups. Staff seem at best uninterested in making things run smoothly and at worst straight up rude. There’s no reason a sandwich should take 30 minutes to make. Do they not have the ingredients ready to go back there?

They've lost their charm. Maybe I caught them on a bad day, but I walked up for 2 sandwiches with no line. 30 minute wait that turns out to be nearly an hour.. They don't have hot sauce for people eating at the establishment anymore, but they'll sell you a bottle for $8. As far as I know, it's always been a popular spot. They certainly haven't been blindsided by demand. I've lived in the neighborhood for 10 years. Consider the place online only for ordering. Not a place you can walk up and grab a sandwich with a friend anymore.
