Service was really good. Felt like being at Nana's house and super down home. The value here is amazing. You get sizable portions for a reasonable price. Makes sense why the neighborhood comes here regularly. Several Ppl came in and were greeted by name. Food was tasty too. I got the smothered wings with home fries and pancakes with eggs and bacon. Wings were good and I forgot to take a picture. Came with gravy and onions over the wings. The home fries had bell peppers and onions mixed in. They were tasty too. I left feeling full and all the food ran me about 35 bucks. I got 2 large teas as well. All of it for under 40. I'd definitely come back no question.

This place should have at least 4.8 stars in my opinion. We had a super yummy breakfast (chicken + waffles, grits, fried catfish) and would come here all the time if we lived in Miami

M
McKenzie Fleurimond

This place has the best breakfast in Miami. If your in the mood for a southern home cooked hot meal this is the place to go. I especially love their fried snapper grits and eggs with onions and peppers. Can't forget the sweat tea and lemonade "flop" drink. Amazing.

M
Matthew Dintenfass

Stopped in for some fish and grits for breakfast, was not disappointed. Fresh, good flavor, most important I felt GOOD after I ate it all. Y’all the best.

A

Perfectly done and the wait isn't too long considering the business they receive. The waffle is soft and spongy. The wings are perfectly done. Eggs scrambled soft. Takeout and go..

The environment is like you're going to Grandma's house for breakfast. The service was exceptional, and Ms. Kat was attentive and friendly. The entrée was hot and delicious and full of favor.

YASSSSSS as the young people would say. If you are in search for some gooooooooood breakfast, head to MLK Restaurant and enjoy! They are the best indeed. My son, grandbabies and I love this place. You want some good soul breakfast, this is your place. Services are outstanding, and employees serve in excellence with loads of smiles and love. Check them out, Cass

If you want to feel at home while you eat food like it was made at home. This is the place. Everyone eats here, the post man, firefighters, police men, and the locals. The food is fabulous. Every time I visit Miami I'm here. Been coming for 11 years. Pork chops, eggs & grits is my favorite. But everything taste so good.

C
Christian Martinez-febles

Great place to eat in the morning. I loved the quality of the food honestly. The staff is very attentive as well. My go to is the bacon egg and grits. They are cheap for good quality food.

I felt like I was eating my friend grandma food. When I was younger my friend grandma would cook us breakfast every morning. So fresh and good presentation, even when you order for delivery.

They're food is always hot and fresh. Pretty much everything on they're menu tastes like somebody grandma cooking in the kitchen !

I pass by this place everyday to go to work Downtown Miami... Well I decided to stop in.. OhhEmmGee!!! AMAZING!!! Smothered liver/onions, grits, eggs, toast...I was full for the rest of the day!! I literally felt like I was in a food coma!! I wish they sold lunch!! This is definitely my go to place for breakfast on my way to work and church!!

At the moment it's take-out only. The place was really clean. The staff was very friendly courteous and professional. There's even a place to park. Food was REALLY GOOD!!! I am from out of town, and I cannot believe nobody recommended this place. I highly recommend this place!!!!

Best souk food in Miami. Excellent attention and incredible atmosphere. A superb place to eat breakfast and invest in our future. Because progress is built by the hard worker poeple like MLK. And the place, the atmosphere and the personnel are an inspiration to me. Amazing soul food.

W
Wayne Perry

The food taste like home and the prices are right. A whole bone in snapper, grits, 2 eggs, wheat toast, and coffee w/refills under $15.00. The only downside is that they close at 1pm. (Breakfast only spot)

C

My first experience here was amazing the food culture scene was so different then what I usually get for breakfast the chicken and waffles was really good they take pride in there food they make over there the wait line depends on what you order everything is made fresh to order

l

Everything is excellent about this place , from placing your order through the phone , picking it up and until you finish eating , the food is very very good , and last but not least THE SERVICE FROM THE STAFF IS ALWAYS GREAT !!!

C
Caroline Fulpher

It was my first visit there and I must say that our meal was delicious. I call myself ordering the chicken and waffles and I actually finish the whole thing 😂. My cousin had the boil fish and she finished all of her food, too. I love to see a busy place but most in importantly it was good to see former schoolmates.

The food was better than we had expected, and the staff was very friendly. I would definitely recommend trying this place if you're into soul food.

About 5 months ago I visited Pastime and wasn't pleased with the service from one server who wouldn't attend to our table. Having met and discussed my incident with management I immediately saw a change in service and a genuine desire to be the best. Pastime is committed to excellence. The young people are coachable and want positive feedback. The food is great, you just have to tell them what you want and it's done. Very professional family owned restaurant. They are open to suggestions.

And all honesty it's a small Mom and Pops breakfast restaurant. I personally love this place it's clean the staff is friendly and they work hard and diligently to have your food prepared and expedite it to you as soon as possible. As we all know majority ethnic owned businesses do not have the same support as Hispanic businesses and Caucasian businesses this is a fact and numbers don't lie. This restaurant carries traditional specials such as Chicken and Waffles smothered pork chops smothered chicken grits and eggs and not runny grits but grits that are intact just the way Mama used to make them. This restaurant is symbolic because it's located in the heart of the inner city right next to Martin Luther King Boulevard. They have been operating out of this location since the 1980s it's a family-owned business that has been passed down from generation to generation even though our communities aren't the best and aren't as clean and well kept by the city we still appreciate our environment and we love it we are thankful every cherish the ability to have something of Our Own even though it's not much.

The food is great. Food is cook to order. The waitresses are friendly, quick, efficient with order taking and most importantly respectful. Whenever I want some soul breakfast and don't feel like cooking MLK is where I go.

Like eating down home in the country. Food is cooked to order so of course you'll have to wait. The seasonings are on point and the food is delicious! Sis took me and mom here. Glad she did. We enjoyed it!! 👍👍👌😀😀😀

I love visiting local community restaurants. I ordered more food than I could eat. The place was nothing fancy and small. Aye, aye my food was delicious piping hot and fresh. Everybody knew everyone there. Open at 7am and close at 1 pm daily it was busy during my visit. Only complaint was the silverware only due to the food...Yikes, try cutting through a pancake and the knife pops and hit someone at another table?😂 I enjoyed and will bring my folks.

My first time there. I packed my patience. I had Family in town from the ATL and I've always want to come here. This was the perfect time with Family. Shout out to our waitress, Antoinette. She provided excellent service with a few jokes.

Five star taste on the fish n grits and the service they gave my family. Restaurant was close but because my family came from Chicago and was going back in the am they opened up and made us five orders of fish n grits. KUDOS to the owners and staff.

So I had to leave a review because of all of the "disgruntled" reviews if you will. If you're looking for a "fancy" restaurant like KeKe's in Orlando, this is not it. If you're looking for something "chic" like Another Broken Egg in Pines, this is not it. If you're looking for something equivalent to your grandmothers breakfast on Sunday morning, baby it doesn't get any better than this. While the two aforementioned restaurants may be bigger and a little more "upscale", their food in no way shape or form compares to MLK. MLK is like walking into your grandmothers house and seeing all your cousins waiting for the food to be done. You all may complain that it's taking awhile but when it comes no one has time to complain because you're too busy stuffing your faces. Yes parking is not ideal. Yes the restaurant is a whole in the wall but you will not be disappointed about the food. I guarantee you that!! So don't pay attention to rest and try the best breakfast you'll probably find in the "not so good neighborhood".

J
Jennifer Bunyan-Ham

Food is homestyle cooking. So far everything I ordered was good. The grouper fingers, cornedbeef hash, steamed shrimp everything was made to perfection. The staff goes above and beyond to make you feel comfortable.

Ouuhhh baby this is a hidden gem! Customer services wasn't all that upon entry but you have to kill ppl with kindness sometimes and it worked. Food was goodt especially the shrimp and grits and talking bout reasonable oh Def reasonable. I tried going back before returning home but they where closed till Wednesday! If ever in the area make sure u stop by ! I'll Def be there again!!

I love this place!! Been coming here for many years and the food is still good. The staff will definitely keep you laughing while you wait. This ain't no fast food place, so if you're in a hurry be ready to wait...ijs. Ms.Kat and Suzie always on point!

Food was soul food for sure. This is not a fancy sit down, but a mom and pop joint. The food is cooked to order so you will wait. It was sooooo worth the wait, though. My husband had their pork chops and fell asleep as soon as we got in the car! My spot every time I go to Miami from now on!

Awesome place to grab breakfast. Very home like vibe. Loved coming here before the pandemic. People are great that come there. You get the occasional waiter that's ticked at life. But it's 8a.m., maybe they haven't had breakfast yet?🤷🏾‍♀️

I had the pleasure of the Liver and Onions, which is not an easy meal to perfect! This was perfection! Additional greatness was the young adult at the counter who went above and beyond woth service, care, and concern! Kudos to her professionalism at such a young age!! Lastly, the Georgia Sausage was 💯 perfect blend of spice and flavor!

Went today for breakfast and it was some good southern cooking! I had their scrambled eggs with cheesy grits and corned beef hash and my better half had the same eggs and cheesy grits but with pork chops! We left full and satisfied! Best kept secret in the city…💖 the only downfall was they needed a little more air circulation maybe one more ceiling fan.

Family owned restaurant. Food was piping hot and good! The servings are plenty for the price. Ordered smoked sausage, waffles (buttery and fluffy) cheese grits, salmon croquettes, everything was great. Coming back here anytime I’m in town.

Stopped here while waiting for an expedited passport from the Passport Agency in Miami and the food was excellent. My wife and I love finding hidden gems that are local and even minority owned. I had shrimp and grits and my wife had some waffles. We truly enjoyed our food and definitely will stop by again if we are in the area.

Literally we were on the way to another restaurant and saw this place. Decided to google it and the reviews confirmed it was a good choice. So we switched routes and stopped in. The menu has a good variety and there is something for everybody. We ordered the ‘Salmon Croquettes’ and the ‘Steamed Snapper’ both with eggs, grits & biscuits. The food was phenomenal, the reviews didn’t lie, and we will definitely be visiting again!

L
Lakeisha Bouy (Intangible Inches)

Man this place is amazing. Haven't got our food yet and we are already in love! Owners came over to say hi since we are first timers, good music playing, friendly atmosphere. Laid back chill environment. We asked about places to visit and he stepped away to call someone to tell us all the great places to go. We will probably be back tomorrow to, the menu is so big i didn't know what to choose, i haven't had southern food like this since moving from Memphis to Kansas.

My mother passed away and we stopped here to grab a bite to eat and I fell in love with the restaurant the food was amazing and the waitress did an amazing job making sure we had everything. My family from the Bahamas came inside to eat. My favorite food is the pan sausages scrambled eggs and french toast I wish they open up longer than the time they have on the door. But that was the best money I have ever spent and I will be having breakfast here every morning until I can't no more

s
shacoria spaulding

OMG. The food is awesome and my waitress customer service was beyond excellent. I decided to take my Mother to breakfast and this is where she wanted to go. I was not disappointed, we had shrimp and grits with eggs and homemade biscuits. The lemonade was also homemade and tasted so sweet. The prices are reasonable and we had a short wait. I definitely will be returning.

Delicious food everytime we visit. Ms Kat and the staff are super friendly..(She even took a pic with us). Get there early or call ahead because the food is so good, it's always a packed house. There is some seating inside. Grits, catfish and Georgia sausage are a must. They close early so arrive/order before noon.

I found this place by looking for breakfast. I ended up getting Catfish with fries. They do offer it with breakfast sides. Friendly staff. They closed around 1:20pm on Sunday. I didn't see a parking lot. You can call your order in.

OMG! 10/10, I highly recommend. The food, people and atmosphere made me feel like I was right at home. We ordered smothered chicken and catfish. Both meals came with grits and eggs. I normally don't eat grits but I found myself going back for seconds, thirds, fourth and more. We also ordered a side of pancakes and they were so fluffy and light. The ladies that hold down the front counter do it was grace, laughter and cheer. It was an experience that I would recommend to anyone if you're in the area. Thank you Google, you did your job this time. If and when, we are back in the area, we will DEFINITELY be back.

Food was good! My order was simple today. I had pork chops and home fries with onions. Good flavor. The time wait was not to bad. The workers were nice. A little more organization when it come to take out would be nice. I will definitely come back.

4th time going, it's always a 15-20min wait but well worth the food that I take home. The waitresses in there are always busy doing there jobs. For a small place they do a great great job, they never look mad or stressed, when its busy.

K

The best value for breakfast in Miami. The catfish and eggs were very good, abundant and served love and a little Miami attitude which I enjoyed. Very friendly and relaxed place. This place stays busy, which shows how much the community enjoys and values what they offer. There isn't alotta seating but it core clientele carries out from what I saw. My wife and I were on vacation and wanted to try neighbor places and weren't disappointed. We spent 3x as much in South Beach for breakfast and were underwhelmed. This may not be for everyone's comfort level but we felt welcomed and satisfied with our meal. The value alone can't be beat.

Ok this isn't a bad review just some things to take care of. I go there all the time. I really love Susie. Very nice and knows what she's doing. I try to always call ahead for my order 40/60 chance they pick up the phone. The salmon croquet, I always have to ask for extra onions and seasoning never in there and it's always bones. And 2 little small balls. Extremely small. I like liver never enough seasoning. The food just has went down over time

Best random stop for breakfast. The breakfast was on point.....pancakes were phenomenal, eggs were delicious and the breakfast sausage was a great compliment. I am anticipating the other menu items as they are available all day. Service was very welcoming and the atmosphere was very homestyle. They were busy with to go orders which tells me theyre food is sought out daily. This is excellent tp know they are serving theyre community with high quality. Thank you MLK for a great breakfast. I will be back for more.

Lola Blossom (Blooming With Lola)

If I could give a NEGATIVE-5 for customer service from the young lady(Crystal I believe) in the front I would. She was rude, unprofessional, and needs to watch how she talk to customers in front of other ppl. I came in at 9:05am & left out at 9:58am. The young lady took our order, while talking to customers, on the phone, and just not attentive as much. So the kitchen apparently made a Mistake which is understandable however, the courteous thing to have done was make us aware of the fact that food was running behind. I walked up to the counter thinking our food was ready several times and even had asked she not once mentioned that a mistake was made and a fried salmon instead of steamed one was bring out. I overheard the older lady who takes the orders as well, mention the mistake which prompted me to ask The young lady, she dismissed it as if that didn’t occur and stated she was waiting for my bf turkey bacon breakfast, which clearly shows that our ticket was neglected. I also asked her for sliced cheese and after checking my food I told her that & she shockingly said “ when you told me y’all food was almost done, what u want me to add it now?” as if I wasn’t waiting almost an hour. I understand it is a fast moving environment however, be courteous and pleasant to the ppl who are spending there hard earn money in these TRYING TIMES to support a black business. I live in Miramar and came all the way there to feel like I was just another dollar. So please talk to her about professionalism and being from “OVERTOWN” has nothing to do with being respectful and courteous. On a better note the Food was DELICIOUS. Kisses to the Chefs 😘 worth the wait but not worth the disgusting dismissive attitude.

My hubby and visited MLK today... We both had Grouper fingers w/ grits and eggs.. The service was excellent.. The food was meh... Not all what’s it’s hype up to be.. I never add salt to my food... EVER... There’s a first time for everything.. My hubby loves eating here but I think that’ll be my last time.. I drove to far to have warm instead of hot breakfast..

T
Tamairo Moutry

The food was pretty good. The Waitress still needs LOTS of training. She didn't bring our drinks out right away. When she did, she brought them out separately. Our food was also brought out separately. When you're serving people, you shouldn't walk away so quickly without first asking if we have everything we need, or if we need anything else. She walked away when I was trying to ask for more butter for my toast so I had to practically yell to get her attention for her to get more butter. When I asked for it, she behaved as though she didn't want to give me anymore. She said, you don't have enough on it already? I told her no. It was just in the middle of the bread. I told her that I wanted it all over my toast. The toast was a tad bit burnt too. I asked her to make sure that this wouldn't be the case when she first took my order. But she was just too busy to listen to me or to check on us enough. I still left a small tip. I will be back and give it another chance. I'm thinking of having a big sister type talk with the Waitress myself. This is simply because I want her to win, and to understand that she's in the business where she has to serve her customers well because tips are how she makes her living.

Prime “Doc” Flava

My first time going to the new location only went to the old location a couple of times as well! I ordered chicken and waffles with a side of grits. It was ok, nothing special Grits were ok, not creamy Waffle was made with cheap batter! It was very dense and heavy, and to top it off, you get this cheap syrup that tasted like medicine! I poured over the waffle before tasting it, and boy, what a big mistake and only finished half the waffle it was so nasty!! The fried chicken was better they were seasoned! They had a sitting area, but it was not being used by customers, only folk sitting around talking! Loud chatter or something coming out of the kitchen as well but sent out nothing special! I dont think I'll be going back!

T
TIA SPARKS

I'm only giving it two stars because I used to come when it was MLK. I went today and the grits were bland, no butter, they were scared to give you water, the fish was not cooked all the way, they didn't give any napkins. I had to keep calling her back to the table. For me, I will not be going back. Whomever is cooking in that place needs to go back to school because the food wasn't good.

This was my fave place to go for good fried snapper but their food is declining. Last 3 times I’ve purchased a fried snapper breakfast it was horrible! No seasoning, poorly fried with fish falling into crumbs and then the super small fish when normally it’s a whole fish. So disappointed.

J
JD Etienne

This place fell off completely. I WILL NEVER go back to that place. I used to enjoy when they were in 62nd street. Their new location is a disaster. This is my 3rd time going to the location in 53rd street and 17th Avenue. The service is horrible. How is it that, I'm dining in restaurant, and they have no plates, I have to eat my food at the restaurant in a takeout foam plate, how disrespectful. Is this restaurant for animals? Even animals have plates to eat in. The food is not bad, but the service tells me, they don't respect the dinning in experience. No plates no silverware, no one comes to you to take the order, no thank you, I'll passed on MLK Restaurant for now.

We were from out of town and wanted to eat at a local owned breakfast spot.. while there. wasn't to sure about the ordering process.. The younger woman taking our order was rude and rushing us . As if we were bothering her. Definitely a local spot and they treated the locals kind and respectful. . Food was just ok not seasoned AT ALL for it to be a black owned business. The older woman behind the counter was very nice though made you feel welcomed . Won't return

Wish I had been greeted and tabled wiped off. Had salt/pepper shakers(put on shelf after I came in). Stood and waited for change after getting food in bag and I told lady I was eating there)then said I’ll sit down when it’s ready. Asked for hot sauce, told in bag yet it was different and I couldn’t open. I finally got up to ask for salt, got pkgs instead of shaker and used hot sauce which I heard them comment about. Had trouble with plastic knife. No customer friendliness and smelled of roach spray even though food good. Other people greeted after me. 1 slim woman did a lot of work while others gossip but it’s family business. Bldg will be caving in soon looking at inside roof yet LOTS OF BUSINESS.

Went here because Jackson's was closed. Had the liver and onions, it was alright. Eggs were too wet for me. Had the grouper bites. They tasted cold and tough by the time I made it home. I'll stick to Jackson's. The waitresses were nice though.

I'm not sure what's going on, but MLK is definitely not the way it used to. The customer service has unfortunately declined. Some of the older workers are rude and could careless about public service. The young women has become less concerned with how they look when serving the community. We all from the hood, but we don't have to present that all day. If you are servicing 1 customer don't be rude and start servicing someone else especially without notifying the customer you disregarded. It's just a way of doing things. I too work in customer service and you would never have to worry about me being rude or disrespectful. I will treat you with compassion respect and like a human being. Respect is due to a dog. I am 1 less customer MLK has to worry about

Where should I start, it's a decent size diner which sits on the main road of MLK. Customer service isn't One of their strong points, so I definitely recommend getting your food to go ! Upon entering the establishment with my boyfriend, no one proceeded to greet us! We were simply stared at by staff that were to busy running their mouths! No hello! No Goodmorning ! No how can I help you ! NOTHING ! Worst customer service ever! So if you're someone who is fond of great customer service I recommend you eat somewhere else! The staff wasn't very welcoming and far from friendly .we sat ourselves at the last table near the counter were most of the staff continued to flap their gums, even after watching us take our seats no one approached us or even Knowledged Our presence! We sat there for a good 10 minutes without being approached, before my boyfriend took it upon himself to address it. Even after we continued to wait another 15 before anyone came to service out table .Food was average, being that I simply ordered the fried chicken& waffles with a side of scrambled eggs. But overall I hear the rest of the menu is pretty good !But I will NOT be back ! Nor will I recommend this place to anyone else ! I'm all for supporting black businesses but black businesses should also provide outstanding customer service that actually makes you want to come back !

I woke up this Saturday morning and I wanted some MLK breakfast, I placed my order over the phone and was told it will be ready in 15 minutes. My biggest mistake is, I didn't check my order before I left the restaurant. My smoke sausage was burnt to a crisp and so were the eggs. The salmon croquettes weren't full cooked in the middle. I was so disappointed with my breakfast. Not sure if I'll order my breakfast from them again.

I happen to be in the area and was hungry, so I decided to stop by. This is they're new location. I've been to the old location on a daily basis and had excellent service there. I ordered fried snapper filet, grits, and egg whites. After about 10 minutes I received my order. The fish was tasteless, in other words, it had no seasonings on it. This was a $12.00 dish so I expected to be decent. So I sent it back. I here the cook in the background arguing about a fish I paid my money for. Meanwhile, up front the old lady gossiping about some marriage or what have you and then she started complaining about a pet bird I had in a carrier. The older woman yelled to me this is no animal shelter. And she said "That bird better not be sick!" At that point I literally wanted to get my money back, but I carried on through with my order. What's the big deal? The bird was in a carrier, posing no harm to anyone. The staff is so unprofessional except for the 2 young ladies in the front. They were more productive and professional than the older woman tallying orders at the register. Will I go there again? Probably the day after never. Spend your hard earned money elsewhere to a place that appreciates you as a customer. MLK restaurant has lost a faithful customer for good.

Finally getting around to writing this, but: Roaches and rude management you can hear her talking about customers and employees. I'm not sure if it's a "Miami thing" and normal here, but it was the most disgusting thing I'd ever seen. I honestly lost my appetite. This restaurant was recommended by family in the area, but I'd never eat here again. hunny I'd never drive by it.

The ladies service was good... However since I wasn't a regular I waited longer than the other guest that ordered after me and they didn't call in their order! (Unfair). The sign on the wall stated: "If you can't wait then oh well" in other words...(Not the exact words but close to it) They meant just that! Food was hot and I noticed after I ate my food they used sandwich bags as gloves 😒😒😒 A big hell no and I didn't see a sink being used after handling money, and taking orders! Department of Agriculture should visit this place real soon!.

I am here for Jazz In the Gardens and wanted breakfast before the concert. I am so disappointed. 3 people waiting was a sign that we would be in and out. WRONG!! The service was slow. 50 minutes for grilled shrimp, fried fish and liver and onions! The food was okay. The person takong our order was more than rude. However the other order takers were more pleasant. I was sad because the reviews were amazing. Another couple sitting beside us left. I will not return. I left the review in hope that the owner will read it. The business appears to be good. Sad this was my experience!

Planificando tu Visita a MLK Restaurant
