Avis sur DimSum Express Monterey Park
This place has the best shu mai. I love shu mai and these are really a bang for your buck- cheap but big and filling. If there were more stars I would give them. Calling ahead means your food comes out as soon as you pay. It’s worth the 25 min drive and the atm run before hand.
Dim Sum Express has the best food ever. It's all freshly made. It's a cash only place. Call ahead if you have a big order. Its inexpensive price and big portions.
Love this place. My family comes here at least once a month for their delicious dim sum food, house special chow mein and broccoli beef. We also order the combination box with lots of goodies.
Quick and easy ordering for on the go dim sum. I have been coming here for more than 20yrs and the place had never changed. Same great taste every time. No small pieces.
Excellent dimsum, located in a tiny take out shack. Worth the drive to SGV. The har gow is chock full of shrimp, and I love the sesame balls. There used to be one picnic table outside for eats. Not sure if that part has reopened. It’s definitely a pitstop when I have my dimsum craving
It's like typical dim sum... But fresher 'cause it's made to order. Most of the items are also bigger than the cart-place versions. Also seems like lower cost, but it's per piece. still good value tho.
Love the Dim Sum here. Very popular place for fresh fast food. Reasonably priced items with a great variety. Food is takeout only. Close to 10 fwy exit on Garfield. Try the udon noodles and the pork sticky buns.
Small spot but amazing food!!! The price is perfect and if it's your first time I would definitely recommend the bbq pork steamed bun. You really can't go wrong with any pick. They also have a type of sample order so you can try multiple items.
Great! As always! Love this place. Call ahead for faster service. Great people. Always, always get extra pineapple buns... always
Everything from this little joint is absolutely delicious! Even though it's only a takeout place, all the food here is made fresh for its customers, and at a lightning pace. I couldn't ever recommend Dim Sum Express enough.
Foods great, service is ok, atmosphere is ok. I live in another state and come back to this place each time I get a chance.
Love, Love, Love this place!!😁😁😁Great tasting food, fresh, fast and affordable!! Outside seating is limited so i suggest going to a cozy popular park not too far from there. Cascades Park😁Enjoy and be sure to stay alil longer to enjoy the LED Lights in the waterfall!
The pork buns are massive. I always feel this place gives me a generous amount of food for the price. Might not be the best Dim Sum ever, but to have it available to carry out any time during the day, this place can't be beat.
I remember eating here after school in the 80's. I always ordered BBQ pork steamed bao. That taste was the same. I enjoyed every bite.
We drive past here weekly and noticed there were always people getting food. My wife and I thought it had to be good. Decided to check it out today. Dim Sum Express is cash only and we had enough to try a few things. We got Pork fried rice, chicken chow mein, crispy egg rolls, and pot stickers. Everything was good and the prices were not bad. Will definitely be back. I want to Tru the dumplings and BBQ pork buns next time.
It was our first time here. I've always wanted to tried this place and never did until today. I order a little bit of everything to try out their menu. Everything was made to order and fresh. Seasoning was on point and I didn't miss the restaurant vibe at all and the push carts, like traditional dim sum. It is fairly priced with no complaints here all around. THIS IS A DEFINITELY A MUST TRY. Highly recommend. (Please note, cash only like most other spots in the area.) We will definitely be back for more.
Best Dim Sum around. This hole in the has been around for as long as I can remember. Call ahead if you have a large order. And she only takes cash. But it is always well worth it. Great for parties, pot lucks, or just to have for an easy meal. You can't beat the meat pies, pork or chicken buns and especially the sesame balls! Delicious! I can't say enough about this place!
I love Dim Sum Express. My family has been going there since I was a child. It always reminds me of my deceased relatives, especially my grandmother, aunt and mother. The Dim Sum is so delicious I picked up and dropped off for my girls too. I'm craving it now!!! I can't wait to go back and load up on their food. It is so scrumptious it always hits the spot. Thanks for cooking it so good!
These are the absolute best steamed pork buns I have had in the area. The other plates are as good, but for a quick snack you gotta check this place out. At $1.45 each, I feel like I am taking advantage of them.
The size of their dim sum is double of other restaurants or take outs. Cash only keeps their prices reasonable. They also offer noodle dishes but I come specifically for the shumai and har-gow.
Har gow has so much shrimp, they are huge. I ordered a lot of food and they made it pretty quick. Thank you to the other reviewers for the cash only warning. Just grab the paper, grab a pen, and fill out what you want. There are pictures on the front of all the dim sum. I will definitely go again.
Remember: CASH ONLY . Been coming here a long time. Always satisfied. Well priced. I recommend coming here early, a few times I went there were out of some of the items on the menu. Parking is in rear of building. For New Comers: you go to the window and grab your self a paper menu and pencil. On the paper menu under Qty: you write how many you want of each item. ( sell individually). You can see photos of them on the wall of the building.. get in line, when its your turn, give them the order sheet and pay.
Place is so good, if you like the taste of authentic Asian cuisine, this is a place to go to when visiting or passing through Monterey Park it’s a hidden gem and has been here for a long time. Stop by and have the Steamed Beef Balls (Ngao Yuk) those are the best!! That and have some of the shrimp.
A walk up with great dim sum! There can be a wait at the order window - very popular - Cash take out only
Small resturant, order with paper menu and pencil, outside seating limited to 3 tables. Excellent food items and drinks. My kids love this, as do I, and dont mind bringing them once a week. Huge shrimp dumplings, the pork dumplings and steamed bbq buns are also excellent. Also cant forget about the honey tea, always have two of them because its sooo good. Definitely recommend this place. CASH ONLY
Enjoying many different locations for "Dim Sum" and after nearly most of my childhood growing up in Monterey Park always seeing this spot while driving by. Took about 30+ years to finally give it a try. Before I review this particular location just want to make a PSA. Please be sure to take cash when you visit. Cash only here! To my surprise Dim Sum Express has one of the best Dim Sum in the city of Monterey Park and even throughout Southern California. My wife and I love Dim Sum and have been all over L.A. Basin for the delicacy. Ordered their Chicken Chow Mein(photo not shown), Sui Mai, Hargow, Sesame Ball, Hom Sui Gok(photo not shown), for the first time, Chicken Udon second time. Everything was so flavorful and delicious. All the textures of each item are made to perfection. All flavors were on the authentic point. Prices are a tad bit more than the usual places, however worth every cent. Our daughter loves their Sui Mai and our second visit ended up purchasing 2 dozen!! They practice social distancing, where your mask! Easy to order, just fill out the item order sheet with pens provided, hand it to the order takers, pay and wait for your number to be called. They have a loud speaker so you can hear your order number when it's ready. Order lots, and enjoy your Dim Sum. We will be frequenting this spot from now on. They are amazing here!
Heard great things about this place for many years. Finally decided to try them out and I must say, they are good! Each order of dim sum is comes in individual servings, which gives you the opportunity to sample everything! Each serving size is gigantic too! Will definitely come by again !
I love the food from this place! Tiny little building, parking can be tough in the back because it's always busy. Everything made fresh to order, home cooking, full flavor on every single thing that you order And delicious. This is the only place I have ever been to where I love every single thing on the menu. Cash only though. Absolute favorites are the steamed pork dim sum and the steamed shrimp dim sum, the sponge cake is light and not too sweet, the cream-filled fun is so light and has a delicious crispy sweet coating on top while the cream in the middle is rich sweet. Last but not least, the reason I drive cross two counties to eat here is the sesame seed Lotus ball. If you like sesame and you like Asian sweetness than this is the treat for you! The sesame seeds are always is perfect. I highly recommend you take a fun trip out and enjoy!I
Shrinkflation is real, haven't been here since 2019, but they're still quite tasty. Cash only, prices aren't as high as expected. You don't really need to talk to them if you prefer that, just fill in what you want on their menu and pay. Familiar HK fare but quite delicious
I've been coming here for over 30 years and it used to be a hole in the wall and actually it still sort of lol. They make everything fresh so you will have to wait about 15 minutes for your order. They have a PA system that calls out your order number loudly so you don't have to stand so close by the pick up window. What I would recommend there would definitely be the #1 pork bun, the #8 xiu Mai,. The har gao. The egg rolls suck so don't get those, not worth stomach space. The chicken pies are good. This place is a must try. Pricing is affordable as well.
Huge cha shao buns! Lots of breading though. Baked buns are the best. Good flavor. Pretty good selection for a tiny kitchen. Great turnip cake. No wait, decent prices, ok parking lot. $ cash only!!!
When in the area and craving some dimsum and don't want to dine it . Then this place is good and fast. They only accept cash and they have a small parking area . Overall gets your basic dim sum cravings fulfilled . They also serve plate lunches as well .
You won't find the delicate noodle creations of a Din Tai Fung, but you will enjoy some of the best tasting dim sum without the hassle of a sit down restaurant. If you are driving by and have a pang of hunger, pull over and order extra for a friend, which you will end up eating in the car on the way home (sorry Jeff!).
If you're looking for fairly authentic dim sum fairly quick, look no further. It's a hole in the wall and don't expect friendly customer service. You either call ahead or complete a paper order form. You hand your order through a small window and pay CASH only. Then you wait anywhere from 5 to 20 minutes depending on how crowded or how big your order is. A computer synthesized voice reads out your number and you go to another window to pick up your food. There is no glamor or pretense here. Parking is extremely tight, so if you have a full size truck, consider street parking. Lunch is very packed due to the nearby hospitals and businesses. 3-4 pm is the sweet spot before the dinner rush heads in. The food is tasty and they can accommodate some food allergies like my son's egg allergy. (They made fried rice, no eggs and my kids loved it). The chow mein and beef with brocolli are kinda expensive but for the occasional splurge, we get it. Our go to is the shui mai, steamed BBQ pork bun, and hargow. All 3 won't disappoint. Just don't go expecting a smiling face and a soft voice when you place your order. It's not that kind of place.
Wow. Food is good. Service was okay, too bad the lines are longer than expected. Overall, pretty good experience. First off there’s a good beef ball dish, very Hong Kongish style. Then there was the chicken rice and pork dish wrapped in bamboo paper. Another one we ordered with my family was the chicken feet dipped in spicy sauce.. it actually taste better than it sounds. Will come back again here.
A great place to get food to go if you have to take some food to a gathering or a office potluck. If you plan to take food to the park like I did, just remember that they don’t always give you utensils.
I very rarely make a review but I thought I would share some information, The food is excellent!! However when you order your food make sure you specify how many pieces per item you would like! Other then that it’s a very good place to eat! Everything is nice and fresh…
A bit of a wait, but that hopefully means it's being made/cooked fresh. Prices are only on the order sheet, not on the photos. Some photos areisleading, like the hom gok. Vegetarian thought it had no meat, she was surprised it had meat, so I ate it for her. :) Overall a nice place but I only came here because my favorite place closed down due to the pandemic. My search for a new favorite dum sum place continues....
Solid, but not spectacular I think there's certain items on the menu that must be great the shrimp har gow was really good, the egg rolls were not. The sumai, good. The potstickers were good as well coming for a walk up fast food dim sum place, I like it but if you arnt in the area, I wouldn't go a long way out of my way.
Love their food. Always fast and fresh. Great prices for amazing quality and amount of food. Only reason for 4 stars is they only accept cash, no cards or tap to pay of any kind
Love this place!!! Dim sum without the lame mcdonalds hours. Can get it any time of the day up to dinner time. Big down sides though! 1. Parking sucks 2. Cash only
I've passed by this place many times. Sometimes there's limes of people. Always wanted to try their char siu bao. They have both steamed and baked types. I bought both types. I usually like the baked type more. But here both were good but I preferred the steamed ones more.
Parking is horrible. You have to quickly turn in the parking lot off Garfield, but you have to go slow, or you will miss it the entrance. Order window is right on Garfield Blvd. On really busy days, they run out of food fast. Everything I have ordered has been delish. Just don't l like that they close by 5:30pm and you have to have cash. Food, price, and amount are 👍👍😁
Ordered pork shumai, shrimp hargow, steamed BBQ pork bun and custard tart. All very yummy and they aren't stingy with the dumpling sizes. Whenever I'm in the area, this is my stop.
This place is great to get a quick bite of Dim Sum or Chinese food. their food is great, and the price is still reasonable. They used to have this breaded chicken thigh with teriyaki sauce over rice, that I loved, but they eliminated it from the menu. I wished they'd bring it back.
Quick take out dim sum place that has decent food and the prices are reasonable though higher than one might expect from this establishment. While the food quality is not necessarily better than most dim sum restaurants, the pros to eating here are the relatively reasonable prices for the area & the fact that it is open till 5:30pm. Contrast this with most Chinese restaurants which serve dim sum ending their service & menu after lunch.
So I was in the area and had a craving for some dim sum. Pulled out my phone and did a search and this great little gem popped up. The reviews seemed pretty good and I was 3 minutes away. There were a few people waiting for their order so I walked up, grabbed an order sheet and made my selections. Got a variety of dumplings in about 10 minutes and drove home. When I got home I opened the boxes and saw these HUGE pieces of dim sum sitting there. Omg. They are about 3 times the size of the ones I'm used too. Lol. They were pretty tasty and filling but gave me a complex. Part of me wished they were a bit smaller so I could just pop them into my mouth. The portions are great for the cost and I'll probably stop by again when I'm in that area.
This was our first visit. The items were good. Most dim sum items are priced per piece so the price seems good. But if you're familiar with dim sum, you don't eat just 1 piece; you can eat 2 or more so then the total starts to add up. And they don't accept credit cards or touchless payments so it's CASH ONLY and handling cash is not a good idea during covid pandemic. Lastly we waited about 20 minutes for our order and that seemed like a long time to get dim sum and there seemed to have only 2 orders ahead of us.
I like Dim Sum Express. It is worth noting that the dim sum selection is limited - you won't find congee, chicken feet, or steamed beef tripe on the menu - and parking is sparse. But it's nice not having to deal with the long waits and large crowds one would expect at a sit-down joint. Ultimately, there's nothing like the traditional sit-down experience, but Dim Sum Express is a great place to pop by for a quick bite or a snack. Cash only!
It's dim sum on the go. Can't sit around and yum cha but still get to enjoy dim sum. Unfortunately, when we went on early Friday morning, they didn't have any egg tarts nor pineapple bread. Also, they forgot my order of Cha siu bao and no soy sauce! That was the most disappointing, wasn't even that super busy. My fault for not double checking until it was too late.
Great place to get your dim sum fix when it's not the weekend or early morning. They close at 7 but that still enough time to get it for dinner!!! The place has very little place to sit and eat so it's a grab your food and go type of place. The hom suey gok is awesome!!! Best thing there IMO. It's got this crusty exterior while having a soft mochi interior! Only thing I have a problem with is the fact it's cash only. I never have cash on me so I can't buy to many things when I randomly drop by
There’s a lot of food to pick here and some is hit and miss. I’ll start off by saying to avoid the chow mein. It does the rest of the food an injustice. Their pork dumplings are so juicy and fat, it’s amazing. Their pot stickers are equally savory. The orange chicken had all the right flavors, but some of it just needed to be a bit crunchier. It bordered on that soft steamed feel but it was still delicious.
If you are a fan of fried foods then this is your go to.. their fried foods are so Crispy, and the size of their dim sum is huge. Totally worth the money. Definitely be back again and again. Only take out.
Long ago it was my favorite taco place (the 1970s) food is good service a little slow. There was a festival down the street, so the extra customers were most likely the reason.
Cash only! They sell it by the piece so think about it, look at the picture, count your dollars and wait patiently because it's worth it. They are not skimpy with the meat I was very pleased with the barbecue bun full of taste and dumplings packed with meaty flavor...see pic. Waiting to come back and we'll know better to bring more cash
Update on 8/19/23. The food quality is still good, but like everything else the prices have gone up a lot. See attached menu with prices. I still purchase from here but with the increased cost, I give more thought to what and how much I order. There’s a parking lot in the back but sometimes it’s full from other businesses or nearby residents. Still cash only. Ever since Covid they got rid of the few outdoor tables they had on the side. *****original review****** My go to place for Dim Sum takeout when all I want are the basics. Good sized items to go along with good quality. They are fast at making what you order and haven't really seen long lines here. I wish they offered a few more options, but what they do offer is solid. Aside from the Dim Sum items, they have lunch plates, but have only tried a few of them.
I believe their pork steamed buns are the most popular item. It is big size rice flour steamed bun with a sweet BBQ pork filling. The egg custard had a flaky crust and very buttery. Both were good. Other items were a bit doughy - meaning the glutinous dumpling dough was a bit think and thus made the filling taste less prominent. Overall it is an affordable option in eating dimsum without much waiting in queue. There are some picnic tables in the side and this is cash only.
Dim sum here is huge compared to most sit-down restaurants. This is a strictly take out place. There is no seating area to eat here. Parking is limited. They share a lot with a chiropractor's office. The ordering is done via a write on menu where you can tell them how many pieces you want. Once you place your order you just wait until a device calls your number. Human interaction is very limited.
The concept is in the name, dim sum Express. I wish these were everywhere. The idea of being able to buy a small dish of Chinese food for around a dollar is great when they bring it by in a little cart at a dim sum restaurant. To be able to walk up to a window and order it like at this location seems even better. I've been coming here for probably about 15 or 20 years the reason for the three stars is the price has gone up quite a bit. This place has gone from being a steal, to being fair priced and now most recent trip I would have to say it's more expensive than going to a regular Chinese restaurant.
It was ok. Parking was small and difficult to enter. I feel bad for the employees though. 3 people in a small room with only a fan to keep themselves cool seems to make them a bit more irrated than usual. The food was pretty good, a bit oilier than most dim sum places.
They shorted me food. They sure charged me for it. But failed to include it. They wrap everything so tight, you dont notice until you get home
First time visit to the place a since the pandemic started. The food quality has since deteriorated. Har Gow and Siu Mai are the standard of all dimsum place to be judged. For some reasons the taste are not the same as before. The sizes of the items remain bigger than normal as before. One thing never change is this place is CASH ONLY. Something to note nowadays that people seldom carry cash because of a threat of robbery.
Egg Rolls -- (Old) FONG'S (dim sim takeout) - CRISPY!!.... JUST like dim sum restaurants in general. PARKING: Park on Emerson Ave.
Food is tasty and fresh, I’ve never had Dim Sum until I tried it here so I have nothing to compare it to. Place is small seating is outside, parking lot on the back. It’s been Three times now that I show up 30 minutes before closing and they say they’re closed then they pretended not to understand me which is frustrating because I’ve had enough brief conversations with the employees that I know we can communicate. Twice that I ordered food and other people ( customers that look more like the employees) get their food before I do that have ordered after me. Good food in my opinion but from my experience the service depends.
Dim Sum tastes great and inexpensive. Portions are big. Most items are sold by piece. No indoor seats and outdoor seats are very limited. Good place for a quick bite or take out. Cash only. Will definitely come back again. Update: I recently went there again on a Friday morning. Changed my review to 3 stars because they forgot about my order and I was the only customer standing there waiting to pick up my order. Name should change to Dim Sum Sluggish. 😕
I saw this place while driving by and decided to give it a try. Luckily, I had cash because that's all they take. I got the har gow, siu mai, rice wrap, turnip cake, and peking porkchop. Take out only. Some items were pricey. They all tasted just okay. I've had better. They have a small parking lot behind the business and also street parking for free.
This place has good food for relatively cheap. Only issue is that you have to make sure you double check your order because sometimes they forget some items.
Dim sum fast food to go, cash only. OG establishment. One way driveway from Garfield Ave to a small parking lot. Not my choice of dim sum but we were hoping for something quick and it was just a block away. Took maybe like 5min wait at the pick up counter window, left of the cashier order window. $1.99 steam BBQ pork bun - larger than expected. It's okay. Buy for a $2 buck snack from the area, it's fine. $1.99 pineapple bun - bought for a friend. Hope they enjoy it. $1.65 har gow - Only 1 for $1.65 though. Better than expected. $1.75 Sesame ball dessert - larger than expected. Very crispy. Filling is mostly the mochi rice stuff vs flavor. But I would order this again. $8.15 total cash. Place is probably good for quick buns to go? 3.5 stars for convenience and price for them.
Cash only and doesn’t have a big storefront so I don’t understand why they charge more than those other big restaurants. Menu is very limited too. Food ok but not better than the other restaurants. My one and only time there but I ordered 4-5 different typical dim sum items. I will not come back again.
Ordered BBQ fried rice. Asked for extra Siracha..they gave me one. Asked for more, they gave me one more tiny packet. Really??!! Rice was ok. Chunks of BBQ pork were really good. I didn't enjoy my food based on not having it to my liking. If u like food spicy.. take your own bottle of Siracha or don't go here.
Food was well priced and delicious, but they didn't include everything in our order. Since they took the receipt when we collected our order we also had no way to prove we'd been shorted
this place is a bit pricey to me to be honest! $1.45 for only 1 pc of dimsum, crazy! also no spare ribs and no Phoenix feet? there buns were ok, really small for the price. just go to any Asian bakery, would get a better deal!
Asked for bag pork bag, they said, not hot not steamed yet, so I said, if cold it is ok. They gave me from fridge, old dim sum left over from prevoius days. It was hard and over cooked then refrigerated. I was expecting fresh new not yet steamed. Not old stuff days old ones. Plus the cooked ones we’re all sitting all day quality. Not coming back, treat Asians badly.
Very disappointed. The prices per piece was the same as dim sum restaurant but their food was horrible. The pork in Sui Mai was stinky and tased old. The Chicken Rice in Lotus Leaf was cold and the pork inside was also stinky. Hom Suey Gok was too hard and too thick to bite. I won’t go there again.
Egg Rolls #11 $1 each....too expensive for frozen Egg Rolls not home made at location..they were very, very greesy, the Sweet & Sour condiments were not given out without asking for them.....Not tasty at all, ate 2 of the four Egg Rolls..$4 FOR #4 ( 2.5 INCH)...before going somewheres else to eat that makes fresher food and better customerservice..oh well you live and learn...thats what they call experience....we learned a valuable lesson today...Please try for yourse, and post a reply....Truth is;as for my enjoying homemade Egg Rolls so much... I have paid as much a $3.99each...but if you want repetitive business..You give a hardy snack...not frozen from Smart & Final ...I could be wrong....The owners seem to have a very nice store, great location too...I alway give new business a few weeks to make improvements ...I be back. for a second time to see before giving up on this establishment...Because everyone deserves a second chance....Thats the only fair way to approach business....God Bless you and have a great day... Suggestions: make large homemade Fresh Egg Rolls, and serve with home sauce...and serve with a smile...People enjoy tasty food and are willing to pay for satisfaction...
