What a wonderful place to meet the locals for a great meal and to watch a sports game. Went to several restaurants in the area and this is by far our favorite. Best food and prices around.
It was a great first experience. I am from out of state and my friends took me there. Very good food. Tables were a very tight fit but otherwise it was a pleasure.
They made the Birthday Party a Wonderful Memorable Party for My Nephew. Highly recommend them.
I was looking for a place to do a surprise birthday party for my husband. They were low key, easy to book, accommodating and on top of that the food and service was excellent. After the dinner, we were looking for a club/karaoke or something to do with our guests and we didn't find anything. To our luck, there's a DJ who plays there a couple nights a week so we didn't have to go anywhere. The DJ was also really good.
A no frills REAL steakhouse. The food is excellent. The service is outstanding. The atmosphere is what to expect from an authentic steakhouse, background music and pictures of famous people who have visited. Server was very attentive. Kitchen staff produced my meal with perfect temperatures and changes I requested.
Loved it ... steak was good .. wish they gave more veggies only 2 broccoli and 2 sliced carrots
We were there three nights in a row and loved it. We all three had steak salads on romaine all three nights! Obviously we really like those salads. Monica and Jesus did an incredible job and you should be proud to have them on your staff. They even remembered us from six months prior and we will ask for them again when we visit in July. The drinks are awesome with a terrific pour. Appreciate it all as your operation is outstanding! Can't wait.
We went last night for the first time for my BD dinner last night. clam chowder and salad were really good . My 12oz prime rib was amazing. Sirloin steak was excellent , both were cooked to our liking . It's a very comfortable restaurant with a great vibe . Cocktails were very good . We'll be back !!!
Always the best! Great food, excellent service and good quality food for the money. My most favorite restaurant in this area . It has been for years.
Best prime rib around. We love Tommy the bartender. And food is always consistently delicious.
Recommended during a wine tasting while at the Backstage winery, this is a favorite for locals. Reasonable pricing but really high quality food. Will definitely be coming back.
Awesome place. The food is great, and drinks are good as well. Decent beer selection, and a nice bar. The karaoke nights are awesome, usually end up with everyone dancing in the middle of the restaurant. Staff is very helpful and nice.
We had a group Christmas dinner here. The service and atmosphere was great! Had live music that made the evening fun. Be sure to have the Wedge salad. Very tasty!
Great place. A little intimidating at first because of the location and some sketchy people outside but its fine. Had the sirloin with mash potatoes and vegetables and it was delicious and well cooked. A friend had the ahi tuna salad and it was great. French onion soup was also great. Very relaxed environment and much more reasonably priced than the downtown restaurants.
5 stars in my opinion. Mainly for the non stuffy attitude here that made for a relaxed evening. The steaks were phenomenal! Our server, I'm sorry I don't recall his name was humble, thorough and a consumate professional. It's been too long since we've been here, but after this night (my fathers day dinner) we'll definitely be back more often.
The prime rib was done perfectly as always. The service was excellent and they have added a QR code so you can pay with your phone at the table. We split the order because we can’t eat a full order with the fixings.
Delicious! So many favorites here! You can sit at the bar and make new friends or enjoy the dining area. The crispy steak salad is my favorite. My birthday was great, everyone joined in and sang Happy Birthday ❤❤❤
Went 2 nights in a row! Great food and terrific service! Definitely a spot for the locals. I wish I would have gotten a little more than a few spoonfuls of of garlic mashed potatoes! Service was great at dealing with the various age groups we had there. My family can be a handful.
I just got home from a late lunch early dinner there. That rare prime rib melted in my mouth. So tender & yummy & exquisitely paired with garlic mashed potatoes & steamed broccoli. I started with cream of broccoli Soup that was delish. Washed it down with their house vodka martini while my friend had a sunrise. No room for dessert despite the temptation. ❤
They were understaffed on Thursday night,we did walk in and get a table right away, but we had to wait awhile for service,,the food was great tho,so it was worth the extra wait time, waiting did not really bother me as much as others might get annoyed, the food is delicious, I was very satisfied with my meal and so was the friends I was with
excellent local bar with bar and seating on the other side
Steak, salmon, burgers, artichokes...it's all good. Great drinks as well!
Best steak I've had in a very long time. Inside looked way dated though. I guess it is all about the food cause ot really looked run down inside. Food was excellent.
Always perfect! Great food, great folks & perfect service. I've been coming here since 1990.
I'm biased since I'm the owner's grand-niece. It keeps my family coming and the manager even remembers me from when I worked there 15 years ago. We went tonight for the owner's celebration of life with only family, so I'm interested to see how it changes in the future.
Great place to hang out and have drink, some food, and with some good tunes playing in the background. The beef dip was great, the staff outstanding.
Great experience. Great food great service. Great hostess also!
Fantastic Lunch. Comfortable seats. Really really really good french dip. Update: prime rib with my dad. Was good. They made space for him and me (he is in wheelchair) The parking drop off area has regulars parking in it which really sucks for unloading someone who is disabled.
I stumbled upon this steakhouse while at an appointment down the street and just loved the sign that it was Norman's best steakhouse or something like that. And it didn't disappoint. Beatriz was doing a great job of holding down the forte by herself and was so nice and friendly. I really enjoyed the French Onion soup. Can't wait to go back to try their dry aged meat.
When heading up to Napa a couple of times each year we always find ourselves here for a dinner on our first night of the trip, and we're never disappointed. Service is always great, red meats are delicious and they have a great selection of cocktails that the wife and I are always happy to imbibe. Definitely worth a visit, just don't forget a reservation!
Love the Service and Food Both. We have been there several times and every time it was a pleasant experience. I love to try different things so this time instead of Fish or Salmon I tried Beef Stir Fry that was special on that night. My husband ordered Filet Mignon with Baked Potato. Their Clam Chowder is good as always. Love to visit again.
We love Trancas Streakhouse! We have been having a standing reservation for New Years Eve for 13 years now except with the shutdown. This years was amazing 2023 they accommodated 30 of us. The food was delicious the service was amazing and they were very attentive and friendly and of course Norm came by to thank us for the continued business. Thank you for another memorable New Years! See you soon!
What a great find after a day of Sonoma and Napa Valley wine drinking. Everything we had was fresh, flavorful and filling - they certainly don't skimp on portions! Their warm baked bread was absolutely divine and the wait staff was quick to refill when the basket was empty. Cannot wait to come try Trancas again!
Sadly, typical northern California Napa valley place. Now that it has become part of the megaopolis of the west coast. But the food was really good service was pretty good.Just super busy, so they had no time to interact. And the atmosphere was what you expected from Napa
I may have had the best filet I've ever eaten here. Absolutely the juiciest, most flavorful piece of beef ever. The ambience is low key and a bit dated - perfect for what it is. Pablo was awesome.
We read the reviews and happened to pass by, so we figured why not give it a go to see if it lived up to its claim of ‘The World’s Best Prime Rib’ This wasn’t the world’s best prime rib. It’s the best in the galaxy if there were cows on other planets! I am seriously not kidding....we’ve eaten prime ribs very extensively and this is by far the best we’ve had. If I were ever in the Bay Area again, I would drive 2 hours to get here for their awesome slab of cow! Keep it up Norm and team!
Easy menu options. Quality beef. Preference of cut & cook were both met. Exceptional service. Garlic fries and house ranch are notable. I recommend this steakhouse, absolutely. Atmosphere is something to be desired, it's plain but the company you bring and the food you experience is well worth it!
It was a great dinner, an excellent service and overall a marvelous experience.
I have been wanting to go here for some time, and it was worth it. The prime rib was delicious (the 12 oz cut will be big enough to have leftovers), the chicken and rice soup too. The bread was nice and warm, served with whipped butter. Service was fast, and everyone was attentive. I'm definitely coming back!
Truly is the best prime rib! Great waitstaff , great environment!
Moe, our server has been absolutely fantastic. Super generous, very to the point and service was insane. Before we could even finish our drinks he was there making sure we were set. If you come here, request that man bc he's a saint. Best food we've had in quite awhile. We'll worth the 5 star rating. Moe's customer service? 11 out of 10. Again, best we've had in awhile. Bring your date, this place is sure to impress.
Google has great recommendations and this one was definitely one of them. Right from the start everything was perfect. The bread (and garlic bread) was hot as if it was just out of the oven. I took the special of the day and my husband indulge in some tasty wings. We both loved the freshness and how perfectly cooked and season our food was. My steak was a tad bit over cook but still perfectly tasty. Our waitress also made it right for us, which was greatly appreciated. I would advice anyone looking for good food and a good time to head to Trancas! It was amazing and we would totally go back!
Love this place! Great food, service and atmosphere. Feels like an old school Steakhouse that generations have been coming to. Loved my Filet Mignon. Hubby loved his ribeye. Enjoyed a awesome old fashioned before dinner. Grilled artichoke appetizer was amazing. Lovely glass of Merlot with dinner. We shared a great cheesecake, for desert.
We went here twice while we were visiting Napa because we liked it so much! We tried the sirloin, herb rubbed chicken, salmon and spicy chicken alfredo. We came on Friday night and enjoyed the lovely karaoke scene! Everything was cooked perfectly and the staff were very personable. Try and make reservations because they were really busy both times we were there. Totally worth the wait though if you don't happen to make one! Definitely recommend.
Everything was fantastic. The server even brought ice cream scoops for the kid's birthday. I appreciated that they accommodated a special food order request as well. Thank you.
We are from Taiwan, and after finishing our visit to Castello di Amorosa, we came here for a meal. The restaurant has a warm and pleasant atmosphere, and the server who greeted us was extremely friendly. Even though our English is not very good, they patiently communicated with us, which we truly appreciated. As for the food, it genuinely exceeded my expectations. I ordered the New York strip steak, and the doneness was cooked perfectly—exactly as I requested. The steak was incredibly tender and juicy, which impressed me greatly. We truly hope to return again in the future to enjoy another wonderful meal 👍
An old style steakhouse with a homey atmosphere. The wife and I split an 18oz prime rib, and they graciously served us individual plates without a hassle. The steak came with seasonal vegetables and a baked potato (or fries). We ordered half a ceasar and half a baby blue salad. Norman claims they have the best prime rib in the world, and I think he may be right. The prime rib was perfectly done, and all the sides as well. The restaurant/bar had a welcoming atmosphere, where kids felt right at home. Price was commensurate with the rest of Napa.
We went for Happy Hour, there is a limited menu, but what we ordered was well prepared. Our server Monica really helped make the visit as enjoyable as it was. Highly recommend the restaurant.
Great steak and potato! Had some wine and bread! Great service. Monica was our server and was phenominal! They paid great attention to food allergies which was greatly appreciated!
So good. We are visiting from Arizona for our 40th anniversary. We wanted to try a good steakhouse and Trancas was recommended. It was so good. My husband had the NY Strip and I had the Braised Short Ribs. The food was sime of the best I've had.
20251014 Another good lunch today. 20250701 A very nice lunch today. Both food and service were great. The Wedge Salad with the Crispy Steak bites is very good. Food is always good here. I don't eat a lot of steak but other things on the menu are also good. The wedge salad with the steak tips is very good.
We had a great experience for our 32nd Valentine’s Day anniversary! Greeted by a smiling hostess! Atmosphere had a very cool rustic vibe! Always wanted to try the place! Our server was amazing! Our food was amazing! Don’t let reviews affect your decision! You must experience places for yourself! Ours was amazing!
The food was great and fresh! Loved the prime rib, burger and the steak sandwich. The garlic fries were great and the food was fresh. BUT the customer base was definitely 55 and over white people. Just to be aware!
The prime rib was served with mashed potatoes, steamed broccoli/carrots that tasted good. The Cobb salad was great has plenty of toppings that were fresh. The French dip tasted good with horseradish and aujus. The service was attentive. However, my son was not eating the fries, so I tasted one and it wasn't impressive but okay.I would go back to this place because overall experience was good. Especially the service
There were seven of us in the party and the serving team handled it well. The prime rib looked good and the calamari appetizers were good. I had a burger, which was decent and one of our party had the pulled pork, which they found too sweet. The fish and chips also looked good.
Food is VERY GOOD. Staff is always friendly & efficient. Trancas Steakhouse is a casual steakhouse, priced accordingly, with a nice atmosphere & a great local bar! Please be aware Trancas Steakhouse doesn't claim to serve premium, high-end steaks. Its lower menu prices for steak/prime rib immediately tell you that. Trancas Steakhouse is where I take my family when I crave a good, honest steak with other entree choices my children will enjoy. Think of it as a very nice family steakhouse where you can ACTUALLY & TRULY enjoy a VERY GOOD steak/prime rib with your family, & not break your bank account. If you are looking for an a la carte, $100+ Tomahawk Rib Eye steak, I must recommend you look elsewhere.
Prime rib was good. Cesar salad just ok. Service at bar very good.
We've come here twice now, both times on Christmas Eve for dinner. Both times we ordered their Rib Eye Steaks. This year was a bit less busy than last year. The staff and waitress were very friendly and very accommodating. The food was very good and, above all, very reasonably priced, especially for Napa. While the other dining area on the bar side is a bit noisier due to the hard floor, the seating there has more room. Overall, our experience was very good, and we would recommend Trancas Steakhouse for those who want a nice, cozy place to eat with reasonable pricing.
After receiving the bill for a party of 3 I felt like I was an investor in the restaurant. Good food and service but prices too high for us.
Steak, ribs, scampi, etc. Full bar. "Best Prime Rib in the World- according to Norm?!" Actually, their beef cuts are USDA Choice. Good wine selection. The bar made a decent Manhattan. All the food was perfectly prepared. Service was friendly and timely. Decor and atmosphere are updated, old school traditional. Make a reservation if you want to dine on Friday or Saturday .
Great atmosphere, feels like dining out with friends and family. Steaks are consistently good, but not always great. Still a very nice restaurant and experience.
Daily specials for dinner The place is busy, would recommend making a reservation. The T-Bone steak was juicy and both the T-Bone and Prime rib were good and made perfectly as ordered. sides with the dishes were seasoned well. We ordered a side of mushrooms and I found that salty. We would come back again
Food is consistent and while simple, it's a straightforward traditional steakhouse. Steaks are cooked perfectly and plenty of choices for sides. The artichoke appetizer and bone marrow are yummy. The cocktails aren't the best, but the perfectly cooked steak makes up for it!
My husband and I love steak, and decided to give this place a try for his Birthday a few weeks ago. We didn’t start off right, the hostess was nowhere to be found when we arrive. I get it, maybe she was busy. However after a few mins she showed up, and asked “do you have a reservation?” so I asked her “do we need one?” in the most rude way she looked at me and said “well… you’re already here” and then there was an awkward silence before she said “just follow me” (I didn’t make a reservation because I had checked earlier that day on Open Table and realized they had a lot of available tables for dinner that night) it honestly threw me off (no need for the rudeness). Luckily We had a good experience with our server Beatriz. The prime rib was super tasty (we’ve had better to be honest) but the meat was juicy and cooked as ordered, the mashed potatoes were quite tasty too. The rest of the staff were super nice and always checked on us. At the end we had a nice dinner and had a good time. Not planning on going back honestly but it was worth the try!
My steak was a little salty but well cooked. The dessert was good. And drinks are ok depending on what your looking for. I got a mojito and my friend got a peach cocktail and they were strong, mostly alcohol! The service was nice and friendly. And after 830 they do karaoke which was fun to watch! The venue looks old but feels cozy!
Okay food and service. Prime rib was easier to cut than the broccoli. Service slow. Bar side might be better than the restaurant side. If you're close by, probably worth a try. Wouldn't travel just to eat here.
My family and I visited this place on Saturday 4/20. The food was good except the peper steak; it was too salty, they put so much peper and lost the real flavor, my dad got overwhelmed for the huge amount of pepper the steak had that could not enjoyed as wanted. One other things I disagreed about this place is that the tip was charged automatically - they didn't even ask me if how much I wanted to leave as a tip. The waitress came back with the receipt and told me that they charged 20% on my card; since when tip is an obligation? Tip is supposed to be a gratuity from consumer to the person providing service. I totally hated this part - it is like stealing to clients
My wife took me to Trancas Steakhouse to celebrate my birthday. I got the prime rib and a beer. The beer didn’t come out until about 2 minutes before the food came out, it was slightly cool, not cold at all. When the food came out my medium rare steak was well. Not pink at all and so dry i could barely cut it. I informed the waitress and she apologized and took it back. We waited another 30 min (that’s not an issue, they were busy!) to get another over cooked prime rib. It very well could’ve been just an “off” night but I digress. Perhaps we’ll try again in the future when it’s not celebratory and we have loose money and see if anything is different.
We had a mixed meal here. The atmosphere is not elegant, more utilitarian, which is ok if the food is great. My wife's prime rib was very good, but my sirloin steak was not good at all - it was overcooked per my specifications, not at tasty and had a poor texture. The steam broccoli on a plate was not great either, more supermarket quality, definitely not farm to plate quality. The service is fine, but the waitress never did ask us how our food was. I feel like 3* is generous, but 2* is too harsh - 2.5* is spot on.
The food was decent. We made a 7pm reservation once seated we ordered drinks and an appetizer that showed up fairly quick (within 8mins). Around 7:20pm we started looking around for our server to take our order. 7:30 we finally got our order placed with the server. My wife had salmon and I had a 14oz medium rare steak and by 8:10 food was on the table warm enough to eat but far from hot. It also took an additional 15 minutes after the bill showed up just to pay so we could leave.
Food was good, definitely overpriced and service was good for the most part. I think having more than one server serving us compromised the service because there appeared to be communication problems (or a lack of effort) with orders/requests not being met. The most infuriating part was after having paying and tipping generously (that may have been the mistake, Don't tip until AFTER you pay), we asked for a simple bag for the food we were taking to go and NO ONE brought us one until we went in after 20 minutes of waiting to ask a staff member for one. The server took the money and tip and left us high and dry while we waited on that bag. Not a good look. Especially when I ordered more than I wanted to just to help out the restaurant and staff after the shutdowns.
I went there a few weeks ago. Service was good, but karaoke was fair. I was there a few years ago when this bald guy was doing it and he made it a lot of fun and we all got to sing. Prime rib was very good.
I would call myself a regular at Trancas. This message is for the chef. I ordered braized short ribs, what I recieved was chuck roast. Although tasty it wasn't what I ordered. If you were out of short ribs the courteous thing to do was to be honest and let me know you were out but could prepare (chuck roast) as an alternative and not simply substitute. Hope something like this doesn't happen again.
The Prime Rib here is hit or miss. And I struck out twice. This medium Prime Rib was dry and chewy even after soaking up the aus jus. I was told that was the rarest roast available for the day. Either it's leftover from the night before or mistakenly overcooked. The service was excellent on both weekday afternoon visits.
Well, I'm a bit on the fence about my meal here. To start with, when they cleaned my table before I sat down they just pushed all the crumbs into the corner of the table. (See pic) I had the 18oz prime rib with a baked potato. The meal was $53.00, so it wasn't cheap but it also wasn't unaffordable. First thing that caught my eye when my plate came out was the baked potato was sad, very very sad looking (see pic). Not a big deal so far... Then I took a bite of the prime rib, it was definitely bland. It wasn't terrible, but the menu claimed that's what they are known for, so I expected excellent... Which it was not. It was a little above mediocre, but not much. I had way better prime rib at an all you can eat buffet last week. I waited quite awhile for water refills, but they were pretty busy so I wasn't to concerned about it. I would probably go back, but I would not order steak again.
Food was fine, deserts were just ok. Margaritas were great. Kinda loud at times.
We go out to dinner holding certain expectations along with anticipation of good food, good service, the expectation(s) is that we will receive both good food and service. Sadly Trancas Steakhouse failed on both ends. With reservations made, the hostess was visibly overwhelmed. We were shown to our seating inside (made the reservations for outside) and sat there while the waitress helped other tables seated after us. We had to flag down an employee who was walking by and request menus, water and silverware. Finally the waitress shows up, with no greeting, we had to inquire about the specials (she did not know and left to find out). We saw her twice, to take our order and five minutes after the food arrived (which she did not bring) to ask if all was okay. It was not and again had to flag her down to get our check. The food was relatively tasteless (prime rib, salmon and burger) a bit cold and otherwise mediocre. I would not waste my time or money going back to this restaurant. I realize in this day and age the service industry is in dire need of help, and while I can appreciate that dilemma I also do not care to feel like I was IMPOSING by even being seated. Nope I will spend my well earned money along with my time at a restaurant who wants my patronage.
Food is always great, Napa local been here 40+ times. Only reason for the review is the service and servers have been terrible on multiple occasions. The most recent incident involved me paying $12 for a shot of tequila got accidentally spilled over. I know its our fault the shot got spilled but for these servers to try to not make it right at all and tell me “well you ordered another shot, so you have to pay for both” is absolutely absurd. As someone who works behind a bar, I would never charge someone for an accident they didn’t intend/cause. Unfortunate, I’ll be making the trek to Outback or Texas Roadhouse moving forward.
Took my dad for his 80th birthday. Garlic bread not toasted. Mashed potatoes cold veggies not cooked dads filet good my filet burnt when ordered medium. Sent it back burnt on outside raw on inside. $170 will not be back. Staff ineffective
Waited nearly 30 minutes without any staff approaching to take our order. We requested assistance from another waiter to determine if our service had been overlooked. My concern is that if there is insufficient staff, it may be advisable not to accept large parties. This is the second occasion I have experienced such service issues. Consequently, I will not be returning to this establishment nor recommending it to others.
