The restaurant is small and the staff is friendly and usually you have to wait for your order because it is so busy. And every customer gladly waits because the food is worth the wait. This is the best fish and chips in NYC. The fish is always fresh and the chips are real fresh potatoes that are not frozen. The Spanish rice, okra, squash,brocolli,.asparagus is so delicious. Best thing is you can have your food steamed, broiled or fried. However your choice you will more than satisfied. The prices are more than affordable for any wallet.

Well I must say I found a diamond with this restaurant I was looking for a fish spot that offered more than fried fish and I have. I had the broiled salmon with asparagus with corn wow I was so happy I wanted to order another the seasoning was perfect the texture was just right I truly loved it. They offer 3 options fried steamed or broiled so they cater to everyone. Most fish restaurants only fry. If you love fish you gotta give Devin's a try you won't regret it.

This is my favorite seafood spot hands down. Great customer service and Fresh Food. I have no complaints once so ever. My 2 favorite dish to die for Red Snapper and the Fish and Chips.

If you want seafood in NYC and Harlem.......THIS IS THE PLACE TO GO!!!! Take out only, CASH only but how they fix that catfish, salmon or shrimp is WELL worth it. Don't drive or run too fast cause you might miss this little "hole in the wall". Portions are plentiful. Wish they had this when I was growing up in Uptown Manhattan.

Great experience my only gripe is that they have removed the seating, thus it's now only take out. Would be nice to be able to sit down and enjoy the cuisine, right after its been cooked. Otherwise good dining.

They always cook my shrimp and fish just the way I like it. Although they are usually busy after 5pm, I have never waited longer than 15-20 minutes. My go to spot every Friday after work. If you have never been there, you don't know what you're missing.

I love Devin's! I go often for the shrimp, fish sandwich, Spanish rice and the list goes on. It is worth the wait since the food is cooked fresh to order. I have tried many fish and chip restaurants but none come close to the quality and amount of food I get at Devin's fish & chips.

I try to stop by here whenever I'm in the neighborhood. The fish, calamari and chips combo, salmon steaks and red snapper are my favorites, although everything on the menu is worth trying; the sides by themselves are delicious. This is also one of the few places where the jumbo shrimp actually live up to their name; they're sizable, juicy and delicious. The friendly, (authentic) Harlem vibe and flavor combined with the old-school chip shop feel make it a great experience, and the staff know the regulars. Highly recommended all around.

Devin’s Fish used to have atmosphere. He used to be able to go and sit down and eat but times they have changed. With that there’s no more seating there’s not even a bathroom in an emergency. If it wasn’t for the good food I would have crossed them off of my list. But the food is still consistent and still good. They also need to get with the times and get a card machine. Everybody doesn’t like to carry cash in New York City!

1st time ordering and they surprised me when they said they delivered. The woman on the phone was pleasant funny and helpful. The food came faster that they stated and was hot and delicious. The salmon steak was broiled and seasoned to perfection and so were the vegetables. Can't wait to order again and try something different.

Everything is made fresh to order so expect to wait 10-15 for a delicious tasty meal. I suggest ordering ahead to avoid wait as it does get busy. Service was very pleasant. Devin was nice and respectful. We had the whiting fish with shrimp and Cajun rice, sweet plantains okra, corn and lemonade and loved it. Devin's is the best place in Harlem if you are in the mood for Fish&Chips. Yes I know, there are places that are more popular but this place has lots of things to offer. The staff is super friendly and they accommodate your dietary needs especially if you don't like your food spicy or loaded with unnecessary seasoning because you wanna taste the seafood flavor that you are getting. Also, when you eat their fish and jumbo shrimps, you don't taste the nasty flavor/smell of the frying oil that other places might have. I think that they change their oil after each customer which I know is impossible but that's how fresh their food tastes. Pressed for time, my husband asked if I could find a spot that was open late that served seafood and vegetables. I eventually landed upon this place, and my goodness - do you have a loyal customer in me! Let me just say that this is the BEST fish plate I’ve had in the city. Bar none. I’ve lived in NYC for nearly 15 years, and Devin’s Fish and Chips did not disappoint. Somehow, the food travelled so well, and my apartment is not close by. I ordered the salmon steak, fried okra, and sweet plantains. WOW. First of all, the portions were generous. Secondly, the salmon was cooked to *perfection*! Not overcooked, and it had the perfect amount of fat. The char on the salmon skin and the seasoning? FLAWLESS. My husband hates salmon skin, and this was the first time he didn’t share it and ate it himself! The bit of lemon on the salmon was perfect as well. The fried okra was CRISPY. As in, the food was in transit for at least 20 mins. and was STILL extremely crispy. Perfect blend of texture - crunchy on the outside, soft on the inside, and seasoned to perfection. The sweet plantains were thick and gently sweet - somehow, they had barely any oil on them, and I couldn’t even process how they were able to do that! I typically like my plantain on the sweeter side, so I am going to go in person and see if they have even riper plantains. Regardless, I devoured every last bit of my plate. My husband ordered the salmon steak with fried okra and green beans. I tasted some of his green beans and was so pleasantly surprised! They were slightly crunchy and had a bit of sweetness to them - almost balsamic. So, so good. My goodness, I am *still* dreaming about this food. Not to mention, we also ordered a fish sandwich and we were too full to eat it! But I saved it for lunch and will also go in person to review it properly. From the food portions to the condiments, this place is generous, and that’s such a rare trait these days in the restaurant industry. For that, and for the incredible quality of their food, they have more than earned my business.

I had the fish dinner with green beans and a salad. The fried fish fillets were cooked perfect and also the fresh green beans grilled with garlic were excellent and also the salad. I am impressed with this , because I ordered this through door dash and I am 2 and a half miles away and it was still warm and the fillets were crunchy .The fillets were laid out on top of green beans in a manner that kept the fillets crunchy. Great to know I can order a Great fish dinner when I’m working!

A true gem of Harlem. Some of the best tasting seafood you will find anywhere in the world. The owner is a really down to earth gentlemen who makes for a great business. The food is savory and tasty. The portions are adequate as is the variety of offerings. The seasonings on the food is so delicious and creates a signature touch that is unmistakable Devin’s. It is a small place, so much so that you my not find it if you are not familiar with the area. You may have to wait a bit for your order but they do a good job in getting your food to you quickly. It is well worth the wait.

Such a Sugar Hill gem. I abosoultely love this place. Although the establishment is not too comfortable due to the narrow floorplan, its not a big deal when you can just take the food to go. My personal favorite is the Broiled Combo ( broiled scallops, fish, and shrimps with one side). S/n they only accept cash.

This was my first time going to this place. Small with bar like seating. The service and food was VERY GOOD! I had the fish/shrimp with chips. Chips made with fresh potatoes with skin. Whole meal was DELICIOUS. Try the spanish rice with peas also great. I will definitely be going back again.

Much improved from when Devin's first opened. Devin's is one of few fish and chips establishments that resemble old school cooking. The seasoning is better balanced now, it was Very salty. Their French fries haven't improved, they are soggy hand cut potatoes that usually sit on the side in a paper take-out container until your hot fish or shrimp are out on top of them. I've only had whiting fish and shrimp, no other seafood. The Spanish rice lacks flavor in my opinion, it could use more sofrito and less pepper. The ones had more pepper than needed, I preferred the string beans which are no longer on the menu. I heard the food quality isn't the same due to new management.

Great spot to pick up some fried goodness. As the neighborhood has grown, so have the prices. There food is fresh and sometimes there is a line out the door. I recommending calling in your order and picking it up because everything is made fresh to order. This is not wheel chair accessible.

Only reason the spot doesnt get a 5 star review is because some of the staff have funky attitudes but it's probably because they are super hot in the small kitchen....Its a rare occasion you get the attitudes but the last 2 times I was there the girl taking orders clearly didnt want to be there! Fish is usually good, fresh and crispy. The chips part varies depending on the day. Some days they're soggy some days they're nice and crispy. You help yourself to the condements. They take cash only. Wait time is around 10-25 minutes depending on how busy they are and who's behind the counter. Overall, I'd say the fries isn't consistent enough for me-- its anyone's guess whether they will be crispy by the time they remember to call my #. There has been times where I literally see my food on the counter for 5+ minutes as the cashier slowly makes his way through the ordering customers before he hands me my food... And that's only cos I asked if that ones mine. But overall, I'd recommend this little gem if you're not picky about the crispness of your fries. I just usually get plantains or something instead. Oh, I got undercooked and stiff-in-the-middle plantains once out of the 3 times I got them, too. But I'd rather undercooked plantains than soggy fries.

Best seafood spot in Harlem. Just like back home. No frills, just fantastic food. I frequented this place when I lived on 145th and St Nick. Love their broiled salmon, okra, and rice with peas. Recently went back after 3 years and wondered what took me so long. I had to wait longer than I would have liked to so they gave me a complimentary Arnold Palmer for my troubles. They're alright with me.

I had the fish and chips, and the fried calamari. Both were very tasty. If you're looking for fried fish etc. this place is great. The fries are cooked very well too. That being said, it's still pretty salty, extremely fatty, and the flavors sort of don't go too much further than that. I understand that's generally what fried fish and chips is like, and is why I still give it 4 stars.

Great seafood in Hamilton Heights. I normally order the 2 piece Salmon Steak with Spanish rice and Tostones. Most the time, Delivery is through GrubHub. This time around, I decided to order for pickup. I wanted to see the restaurant. It's take out only. My order wasn't ready when I got there and I had to wait 10 extra minutes for the food. At least the food was hot and the staff was friendly.

I love the food but can be inconsistent at times and for whatever reason they stopped coming to the Bronx. I would love for them to get a bigger spot as well so you can sit. The Spanish rice is the highlight of this establishment. All and all I like the food and I hope they stay open for years to come. Last thing. Please don’t treat your people in the neighborhood like we stupid. If you say you open from a certain time until a certain time then follow that. I came from Brooklyn to visit a friend and they closed 30 mins early and it’s not that off from closing time but it’s the principal. I have you guys a 4 purely based on the food. But let’s be professional. We as the people keep your doors open.

Devin's Fish & Chips spot on St. Nicholas Ave has been serving the community for nearly 3 decades. I've know I've been a customer since the late 1990s. Devin's was very popular when they first opened because they had a steamer. Steamed snow crab⁰ legs and okra were my favorites with pink lemonade. Also, the grilled salmon steaks with steamed okra & fresh cut fries with the skin on it. Still a family bznz and a staple in Hamilton Heights,Harlem! It's a small world indeed. I found out over 2 decades ago, we attended junior high school with the siblings back in the 1970s. I recognized one of the sisters and asked if she had a brother, Willie. She said, "Yes, I do. " We chatted for a while.. I'm happy that they chose to stay in bznz despite the changes & gentrification thisv neighborhood has endured over the decades. Congratulations fam@🐠🎣🦞🍚🍛

Good fried catfish and shrimp. I was not a fan of their fries or "chips" as they call them - they leave the potato skin on them. I wouldn't have ordered them if I knew. The selection for sides wasn't the usual, they offer tostones, and some vegetables like asparagus. Decent price for the food, will return but remember not to get the chips.

This was actually my first time there and I lived in Harlem all my life. The Fish and Shrimp was good. I didn't care for their French Fries at all. One of the better fish spots. Nicely seasoned, and cooked.

You walk in and place your order at the counter. It was my first visit so i asked how long it would take to get my fish and chips. About 10 to 15 minutes. So I figure its freshly made and should be hot. Chips (fries) not hot but kind of soggy. Fish way more batter than fish. Not likely to go back. Mediocre

It's just ok. I ordered fish and shrimp with fried okra. The okra was good but the fish was not meaty, it was very thin and oily and some parts were so thin that you were just eating fried batter, and the shrimp was small. Overall it was tasty but very oily. I wouldn't go out of my way to eat here.

I had just moved to this neighborhood in Harlem. This was my first meal in this area, at least a living in this area. It’s a tiny confined space, but the customer service is nice. I think it’s a little pricey for fried food, or simple food. I’m really disappointed that they are in a black area, but don’t have catfish. The last thing that kind of irritated me about this place why is the fact that they don’t except card. We live in 2023 and you’re being cheap, not paying for a machine, because they have free ones that allow you to do car transactions.

I paid $21 for catfish, shrimp and fries. The fries were bland with no seasoning and tasted like grease. What stunned me is I only received 1 little cup of tartar sauce for all the food I ordered and 2 packets of ketchup and hot sauce. I doubt I would return.

Without the shrimp this would have been 1 star. There is no "Devin" there and its not a seafood/soul food spot. This establishment is the same as those fish market places that sell hot food in the back.

The Spainsh Rice had no flavor.It tasted like nursing home food. No Sazon no sofrito no nothing. The fish was extremely greasy which left no flavor. When i bit into the fish there was grease in my mouth. Please make sure that you taste test the food. Also make sure the fish is drained.

First let me start off by staying the workers in the establishment are very friendly. I gave it 2 stars because what I ordered, the taste and the quality. The catfish was broiled and seasoned great the shrimps were sooooooo tiny and over cooked. I felt like I was played with because no way was the shrimp that little. If you decide to eat here get the jumbo shrimp I would assume. I don't even think the pictures does any justice on how small they were.

I have lived in this neighborhood for over 7 years and i have never experienced the service i received today. I always go here despite the wait because its that good but the trick is to call ahead i have been doing soo since the reopening. Today i did the same as i always do i called while i was on 134th street placed my order for a fish shrimp and chip special (9$) i hang up walk to the train and arrive maybe 10 min later i walk in its pretty empty i know if there is orders behind her to ask if mines was ready but there wasnt so she asked me my name and said it wasnt done yet. Maybe 15 min later a order comes up she yells out a name no one answers and she bags it up. Three min later a lady comes in and places an order of all jumbo shrimp pays now she is behind me and two other guys who werent there they placed their order and said they would return this is alll after ive been there so now their orders are coming up and im like wait i ordered over the phone how could their order they placed in front of me be ready i know the system i have been eating here for years this is the only seafood spot i like .So i go up to the counter and ask the lady why my little order (9$ special) was not ready as well she tells me that i have to wait and that people who came in had to go before me .....SINCE WHEN???.... ok now she turns around and looks at the order that has been sitting there for about 10 min and tells me ohh your order is ready after i paid so now im like wait this order has been sitting here you never have called my name or anything to see if maybe it was mines. She rudely points to a sign and said NO REFUNDS!!! Now i was very upset i had stood there for over 20 min and now i have cold food i have to take. This was the worst customer service i have seen in years never would i think this would happen i would of gladly waited for another but instead i will write this review and move on.

The food is unseasoned, dry and and burnt flavored. It would be tastier and cheaper to just fry your own food. The oil taste like it’s been sitting there since before the COVID Quarantine. The highlights of the meal were the packets of Tatar sauce and ketchup.

My driver allegedly switched his order with mines and I was told “that’s between me and the driver and the kitchen is closed” so I’m left with the wrong order and way less then what I paid for. Very unprofessional and un empathic to a customer who just wants his food. First and last time ordering from here. DO NOT RECOMMEND

I use to recommend ppl to go to Devin's and I gave them 5 stars, but now I can't even do that. I changed my previous review to reflect the current status. From mid 2018 & till now Feb 2019, Fish and shrimp changed : very blend, smaller, flimsy (not "meaty") like it was before. The fries are always extremely oily and greasy. Seems like new people (especially new cooking style), don't know what happen. So disappointed 😞 Haven't been back since and don't plan to go back. Now in search for a new fish and shrimp spot.

Stopped by here and ordered the grill salmon rice and veggies. They burned my food after I waited half an hour for things. Maybe the fried food is better but the oil was extremely old and unfresh and the kitchen was disheveled and unorganized. The lady behind the counter was rude when I told her that they burned the food. She said I'm the only one who says that. I do not recommend.

I've been coming here since before they had they fire and today was my last day! The owners sister and guy at the register was very nasty to me! I asked that my French fries be substituted for rice and there was a big issue! I told her I dont eat potatoes so maybe she can give it to someone who's homeless, she told me "I'm not here to have a conversation with you!" All I asked was that the food I cannot eat be donated and was treated like an animal! Devin wife is never nasty and treats people with dignity and respect.

I go in and there was an elderly lady who was working there very short in stature. I showed her the text message about my order and she refused to give me my food stating that so many people come in there and take food that is not theirs!!! This is no way to treat a paying customer. My family, friends and I have slent so much money with this estabkishment over the years!!! The flaws in your syatem have nothing to do with me! I do not steal food nor does my family. I cursed her out because I also over heard her saying to a co- worker that I better never come there while she is working there and I took that as a threat!!! I do not care how old she said she is, she needs to learn how to treat paying customers!! Furthermore, an hour after this I was already home because I do not live in that area anymore and received another text that my food was ready even though I had already picked it up. Please fix the system and train your staff so no one has to go through this again!!!

This used to be the spot... After ordering 2 different types of fish im starting to believe they are short changing customers... I've never seen fish sliced so thin combined the 3 pieces equals one filet.. The cost is increasing and portions are decreasing... The one thing that is relatively the same is the rice .. Depending on the day they may try and give you the scraps from the bottom of the pan and tell you it's a fresh pot of rice...

I ordered take out from this place and the food was horrible. When the deliver guy left you smell all the grease in the food. It was like the cook the food with old grease. I ordered 2 fish and chips, fish and calamari and fish and shrimp. The fish, fries and shrimp were full of oil. The calamari tasted like rubber it was horrible. The food was greasy and tasteless. Thank god for my dog, because the dog ate the food, this way 62 dollars didn't go to waste. I wanted to give it 11/2 stars, but that's not an option.

Their food used to be amazing, they fell off terribly. Food has no flavor, no seasoning. I’m disappointed.

I will never eat here again the food wasn’t tasty at all I ordered fish chips and shrimps like how do u mess that up? and the ketchup and tarter sauce package was cheap and also not good first and last time for me

Every time I come here I am more and more disappointed. I’m officially done with this place. I tried to give the lunch special a try and the fish was hollow. They charged me $9.80 for fries and four pieces of shrimp basically. Don’t waste your money on that non special special.

I recently ordered a catfish, shrimp and Spanish rice I’ve been eating here since I was teen. I’ve to say the food was terrible !! The catfish wasn’t even fresh it was freezer brand. It was so bland I ask the lady was it seasoned well she couldn’t answer she just said her brother likes it idk how. Lack season !! The shrimp had no taste as well the only thing that tastes ok was the rice. Super disappointed I literally threw my food on the ground it was disgusting. Idk who’s worst them or famous definitely have to do better going cheap isn’t it. Won’t be returning smh.

Absolutely horrendous. Ordered over $70 of food and the shrimp was over cooked and tiny. The food was supposed to be broiled, but the fish I got was oily. When I opened the containers it seemed as if the food was just thrown in there with no care whatsoever. Been coming here for years, but I won’t ever come back again. I could understand why they have a B rating on their door, and i would rate them lower if there were a lower rating on here.

Fish was delivered and it’s over cooked to the point it rolls up. It does not lay flat like fish is suppose to and all you feel like your eating is skin. I didn’t have one healthy piece out of the 3 pieces. This place use to have the best fish but of course it must have been sold to owners just trying to cook quick without putting love into it. Maybe ion a Monday their more caring, definitely not FRIDAYS. Rolled fish.

This place was a huge disappointment. The catfish tasted very "fishy" as if it hadn't been thoroughly cleaned or maybe it wasn't fresh. My main complaint was the asparagus. I was given two sprigs cut into tiny pieces, and this was considered to be a side. To add to my disappointment, the taste was sour. How can asparagus be sour? If they didn't have enough to sell, I would rather the restaurant tell me they were out of this item instead of selling me veggies that should have been thrown away. I may give them another try after the pandemic has subsided. Maybe this is hindering them from putting their best foot forward. They definitely didn't make a good first impression.

Sub par service and food quality. Food has no flavor whatsoever. It’s just simple fried food. Do not waste your time here. I rather eat a plate of tartar sauce than eat here once more. The place is also swarming with flies. I’m sure the food health standards are good but the price isn’t worth what you buy and the flavor. Left my tongue feeling dry and bitter.
